I am Canadian

Nestled in the Rocky Mountains surrounded by pine trees and just a lazy jaunt away from a wildflower meadow you’ll find an A-framed cabin waiting. In the winter, thick silencing snow protects our retreat from all distractions and in the summer the only noises you’ll hear are birds singing, water flowing and perhaps the crashing sounds of local wildlife. (*Animals, that is. Not our residents.)

Inside the cabin we have fresh brewed Tim Horton’s coffee always waiting or if tea is more your thing we have that too, with real cream for both. There are true Canadians here and some who just love Canada. Visitors are always welcome.

Our hockey playing, snow covered boy toys await your every request.

Feel free to light an oil lamp or candle and curl up in a corner to read, chat or write. If you need inspiration we suggest the overstuffed chair in front of the fireplace that looks out the picture window.

The view is truly magical, allowing a glimpse of both oceans, Niagara Falls, Banff, Jasper, The Prairies, and at night the Northern Lights always paint the sky. We hope you enjoy your stay and come again soon when you can stay longer.

Jules, at the top of each discussion thread you are given the option to "add a comment" and to "add to favourites"  .... just click on the "add to favourites"  ... if a discussion is already in your favourites the option offered would be to remove it

hope that helps!

I am Canadian...

Huh... I can't believe I didn't find this last year!

I live close (enough) to the Rockies and the mountains have always had a place in my heart.  Born in the east ('cause my dad was with the forces) but we moved to AB when I was 8 and I've been here ever since.
I've also been fortunate enough to have visited / lived in the other 9 provinces ~ now I just have to go north to the Territories... soon I hope!

Good Morning fellow Canadians!

Wicked wind this morning!  ..... down tree limbs .... flooding from this January thaw around Lake Simcoe  .... there's not a patch of snow left on the lawns  ... only remnants of winter are the dirty patches of what's left of those massive snow banks we had

btw, I'm from southern Ontario .... Bradford, just north of Toronto

how is everyone else fairing in this January thaw?

It's still winter here...

... and very unusually, I'm freezing!  Don't have a clue why as it's not too cold...

And personally I like the thaw to occur once a winter... at the end!  I hate, hate, HATE slushy weather!!

So we can get an old-home-Alberta group together too eh?

I'm coming to Edmonton. . .

Hi Kalyko, I was born in Edmonton, and my parents still live there.  I'm from a little town just outside of Yorkton, Sask.

We'll be coming to Edmonton Feb 8 - 11, for my Dad's 86th birthday.    They live 2 blocks south of the Millwoods mall.  Whereabouts are you -- maybe we could get together for coffee or something.

DonnaH

I followed the bread crumbs!

Wooh, I made it!

Tarbender, pour me a fresh Tim's with a generous shot of Caramel Baileys! Darcy love, come rub my neck, the stress of being lost in the woods has given me a huge ache.

I feel like we just did a jump and all the ships are staggering in. Yes, I'm having a BSG moment.

Canadian weather eh!

I am writing from the East Coast. We are in the middle of a January thaw after getting nearly buried by snow last week. It is dull and grey. Give me a sunny winter's day any day even if it is colder. Glad to find a place to interct with fellow Canadians.

Just wanted to say Hello out there to all you fellow Canadians, I am new to this but hail from Saskatoon!

A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.

Thawing all over

We're thawing here in Central Ontario, too. Bleck. I like snow. Although I did get the dog pooh in the back yard cleaned up yesterday, and that is something you can't do with several feet of snow on it. Gross task that was.

J

No one can make you feel inferior without your permission, Eleanor Rosavelt

new people

It's so nice to see people I've never seen in this room before!  Welcome to all of you.  See that nice, comfy lounge chair over there in the corner?  The one that's in front of the suit of armour?  You can all line up for a chance to sit in it.

Jordy...explain about the chair.

Has the Wench found us yet?

thaw

Here in the Niagara area it's thawing too. I had two days with the window in the bedroom open and the sliding balcony door, even at night. all snow has melted even the big grey pile left behind by the snowplows. Flowers are confused and bulbs are popping up.

The chair

I will explain the chair in a day or so, for some reason I'm feeling particularly emotional tonight and if I think too hard about Jamie, well, it's not pretty.

Obviously that is not me in the picture, but it is Lee. I don`t have a picture of me on this computer, least not one worth sharing, but it is a truly lovely one of my noble steed. Well, one of my noble steeds, I still have to scan one of Ritz.

It's great to see such interaction here. I am completely new to this online community. It reminds me of trying to find my way around a new school: getting to meet new people, trying to figure out where I am supposed to go... This is going to be so much fun!

Hey Where's Wench??? JT

I'm Here JT!

Found my way here tonight.  Very cool changes.  As always, will take a bit of time to get used to.  Just so glad this thread survived!

So where's Sara?

So cool to see so many new faces here (as well some of the old craggy ones.  ;)

Oh-oh...she found us. Old and craggy, eh?  Hmmph!

Oh wow!  That would be great Donna!  I'm on the northside in Castledowns, but the Wayne Gretzky Drive is close by and makes heading to Millwoods pretty easy.  I'd love to get together with you when you're up here...

And as for Yorkton, SK ~ my husband was born and raised in Ituna ~ very close to Melville, but then you're probably fairly familiar with the area.

I found it!

For a heart stopping moment I thought maybe IAC had ceased to exist! Thanks Sapphire for moving us. :) And all the e-hqn crew who worked so hard on this new site. I haven't looked around yet, but so far it looks good.

I'm brand new again according to my profile! I'm pretty sure though, that I started visiting here back in 2001. :) I got called young lady the other day at work too, maybe it's just a youthful look I've got going on?

Jord-I've tried to find you online at the same time as I am. The boatshow is this weekend! I was wondering if you would be interested and available to meet Sunday during the day?

Okay, I've got to head to bed shortly. Hi ladies!!! It's nice to see a couple of new faces here. Caron, welcome back.

Hey Jord, also when you're not feeling too blue, do share about Sir J and the chair. . .the Knight in the corner is all shiny from the move.  I'm pretty sure someone needs to test it make sure all is well. . . any volunteers???
Sara

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this thread, but i am Canadian also. I lived  the first 32 years of my life on Vancouver Island, and the last 17 years, living in a small community 2 hours north of Prince George. I still miss Vancouver Island, and hope to retire farther south, where winters are much shorter.

Kathy D

Hi Everyone

Hi, Kathy D. Didn't you used to post on the Superromance thread?

Sara, thanks for the welcome. :)

My dad was born in Saskatoon, although his family moved to Manitoba soon after. And this year--about twenty years after retirement--he had his first book published, a biography of Seager Wheeler, a British immigrant to Saskatchewan who helped develop wheat that could be grown in the Prairies. Encouraging, eh?

Oh My!

I'm staying up way passed my bedtime.  Oh well, don't have to work in the morn so I'll just have to get 10 yr old ds on the bus and can go back to bed for a bit.  lol

Alyssa, I grew up on a dairy farm near Shawville.  Grand ol'Pontiac County.

Yeah, yeah Aunt B, horses are devine and SO much better than cows.  Afterall, horse meat is very lean and rich in iron.  lol

Glad to see you found your way here too Sara.  Still a few to check in.  Hope Bev will find us when she's up to coming back.

Glad to see you found your way Bren....and yeah, so many new faces here!  I'm in Ontario and we desperately need the sun.....it's been yucky and dull for days now........where is it????  The snow is all gone and it just looks plain dirty....maybe a cuppa java will cheer me up!

Jules

ps...I love horses too...the first book I ever read was Nancy Drew, The Secret of Shadow Ranch...it had a lovely white ghost horse on the cover, which is why I picked it....I just bought it for my dd at xmas and she loved it!  It's weird to see her reading and loving the same things that I did..

Aurelene

I think because I've lived so close for 30+ years I take them for granted, so when vistors come and say they want to see the Falls it's like "why it's just a bunch of water going over a cliff." It does look gorgeous in the winter though(when it freezes). The Falls coats everything with a mist so when this freezes everything has a coating of ice. I just find that because it's a tourist destination more and more gawdy shops are springing up.

BSG - Jord

I have heard that March 25 or something is the season 4 opener.  It's also the date that s3 is available from amazon.com, but it's not showing up on amazon.ca.  Don't know what the frack is up with that.

Can't wait though.  Looks like with the strike Sci Fi will get their wish - 10 epis in 08 and the last 10 in 09.  SIGH.

Oh and I got a new cast yesterday and also the ok to get back to work - she shaped it so that typing is easier and I just have to be careful not to overdo it.  Hooray!

Hi everyone,

Hi Caron, Yes, I did used to post on the Superromance thread. Good memory you have, as that was quite some time ago now. I went back to work and found i couldn't keep up with all the threads i visited anymore, so i cut back to just the What Are You Reading Now thread. Now my boys are all grown, and though i still work part-time, i have alot less responsibilites...and more me time to fill.

Congrats on your dad getting his first book published, very exciting!

This is so cool!!  I am Canadian as well.  I live in Newfoundland and my town is Pasadena.  It is a fairly small town which I love!  Beautiful walking trails and everyone has a front, back and sides to their yard.  Houses on big beautiful plots of land.  I absolutely love living in Canada!!Smile

It's great to see so many new people stopping by!

Alright, where's Jordanne?!  I'm going to be in Toronto, without kids Saturday and Sunday.  Anyone want to come shopping?  I'll be walking to Eaton Center probably both days. I'm planning to get Starbucks at least once while I'm there.  Oh yeah, and I'm going to the boat show. LOL :)

Yippee for us! If we have a delay getting it, perhaps I can grab s3 in Boston in April. I'm not sure if I shared this news here or not, but I won the New England Chapter's First Kiss contest! Forgive me if it's old news, but I'm so very excited.

Tarana on Sunday-Sara

Sara, I'm game. I plan on being a little hung over on Sunday, but other than that, the only plans I have is visiting Ritz. I'm actually going to be at our Toronto Romance Writer's meeting on Saturday, so if that works for you, I'm game for either. I just don't want to be too late on Saturday night. I'm hoping I can pawn dd off on a friend for a sleepover. I have plans for the night that don't involve an 11 yo. ;-)

Shelley, how on earth

did you do that with your name? I love it. :)

Kathleen, I can relate to the trouble keeping up with threads. The day can just evaporate...for a long time I limited myself to the Supers thread and for months haven't posted at all. But the new site lured me and I'm so glad to visit various forums and see familiar faces--or signatures--and new ones. And thanks for the congrats for my dad. :)
