American Idol

I have watched every episode until this year.  This time I am boycotting the very long and drawn out auditions and will start watching during Hollywood week, when it's just the good singers.  I may even wait until the real episodes start.  They are just dragging it out too much now.

Tammy

They aren't even showing

They aren't even showing that many auditions. It is full of personal stories and all of them aren't even of people who make it to Hollywood. Why do they think we would be interested in the stories of those who fail in the audtion? I still watch the shows so I can see at least a couple of those chosen for Hollywood. I haven't agreed with every choice the judges have made.

I got home...

just in time to see the last two guys...they were both pretty good.

Terri
Got Books?

How good was

Michael Johns?  And I'm not just saying that because he's an Aussie.  I was watching him and thinking he has a lot of the mannerisms of Michael Hutchence, but I almost wish Randy hadn't said it.  I just wish I could vote from here Cry

Also loved the Jason with the dreads.

The guys

Michael Johns has been a favorite of mine since his audition. I enjoyed most of the show last night. There were, I think, three performances that weren't "star potential" quality. Next week will be interesting since one of the ones I like will get voted off. I'm very confident that the two on Thursday will be from my bottom three. LOL I can't think of their names and that is why this post is so vague.

Didn't you just love the "dig" Ryan gave Simon at the end when he thanked everyone but him. Simon laughed about it which showed he can take a joke. Hehehehe

top 3 guys

I thought the last guy, Michael was great, really liked Jason with the dreds singing and the young David.  There were 2 or three others I thought were good, but Simon didn't like them.  And I thought there were 3 or 4 that probably won't make the final 12.  Way to much bickering between the judges though, were they trying to use up time?

Lynn

I liked a few guys, the last few were good.

Can't wait to see the girls tonight !!!!

Simon is just being Simon ....... you have to wonder what he is really like off camera !

I enjoyed last nights show,

I enjoyed last nights show, there were a few guys i thought had a unique voice, and i can't wait to hear the girls tonight as well.

Kathy D

The girls...

Simon or Randy (can't remember which) thought the girls were better than the guys, but they panned most of the girls' songs.  I thought the girls were more nervous than the guys, but I liked most all their singing.  No one girl especially jumped out at me as having major star power.  Tonight the 2 girls and 2 guys I liked probably get voted off...oh well, as long as Michael stays - I thought he was the best of the 24.  And very easy on the eyesWink!

Lynn

LOL

Yes, Lynn, Michael is very easy on the eyes!

The girls disappointed me and I hope the one I liked during auditions and Hollywood week doesn't get voted off because of her song choice, the nurse/rocker. She has an interesting voice but the song was way wrong to showcase it. I liked the last half of the girls but the ones starting the show really lacked spark. I know they were sick, well half of them, but as the last girl said, "being sick isn't an excuse."

Ummm, if you haven't guessed from my posts, I am really bad at remembering names. It will take me weeks to start putting names to faces.Embarassed

I have the same trouble with names!

But I do remember the nurse/rocker's name was Amanda.  I didn't like the song she chose; I had trouble making out the words to the song!  Also agree that the last half of the girls sang better, although I liked #3 - Alaina, I think -  the youngest of the girls.

Lynn

I knew

it was going to be a close call for Amanda. I hope she picks a better song next week.

What did you think of Paula's video?

Paula's video

I'm not a big Paula Abdul fan.  For a woman her age I thought it should have been toned down a bit.  She's no spring chicken anymore!  Liked the song though.

Lynn

The guys are doing great!

I think the girls will have to really kick it up tonight, the guys did a great job last night!  I have the feeling that this season's idol will be male, just don't think that there's any girl better than some of the guys.

I was surprised last week that Robby C. was voted off; I would have sent Luke M. home.  With the girls, I just don't have any that I'd really hate to see leave.

Lynn

I basically agree

The guys have a lot of talent this year. The girls will really have to step up their game next week. Personally, I wish they weren't seperated into groups like this until they get the top twelve. I believe it isn't fair to the guys. Some are getting voted off (especially tonight) that sing so much better than most of the girls that are left. But, who knows, maybe some of the girls will shock us next week and really belt out a song. They might be playing with some stategy and only singing good enough not to get voted off, to put the men into a sense of comfort so they won't worry as much. Sneak attack, LOL. It may be the only way they survive long this year.

Oh! and,

Danny N's whole attitude is bugging me to no end! His voice isn't the best so he should take what the judges say and not be so irratating about it! The purple hair did not work also!!!

I totally agree!

Danny N's attitude was irritating and the facial expressions - I just wanted to bop him (like a V8!).  I really hope he's voted off tonight!

The girls did surprisingly well.  Don't know who should go, except I wasn't fond of Remiele, or however you spell her name.  I didn't think she was very good.

Lynn

Woohoo

At least we won't have to put up with Danny any longer! LOL at the V8 bop though. It is exactly what I wanted to do to him too.

As for Ranielle (don't know how to spell it either), I haven't cared for her the past couple of weeks but she was great during the auditions and Hollywood so hopefully she gets her confidence back. My dh like her not for her singing but for her dancing. He laughed at the clip of her dancing when they showed who made it to the top 24, says she looks as awkward as he does when he tries to dance. LOL

The girls were better this week so there might be some hope for them yet.I never did develop a fav out of them though and I usually do by this point.  Micheal John is still my favorite performer for the guys. I'm glad it is finally down to the final 12 and they start competiting as a single group!

I look forward to next week.

I think this year will be the best year for singing talent, and it's going to be a great competition.!

Lynn

Last week was interesting....

I think the wrong person was voted off.  I think all the publicity about David Hernandez being a stripper for a mostly male clientele really hurt him.

They're going to do Beatle songs again this week.  Hope they chose good songs.  I like Amanda, but could only understand half the words she sang.

Lynn

I agree

David definitely wasn't one of the top performers but he didn't deserve to leave the show yet.

Amanda can be hard to understand. It's her style of signing. I hope the judges can give her some good advise to help her with that. I do like her voice.

Beatles again!

I do think some of the performers didn't make the greatest choices with their songs.  I really liked David A. and David C., Michael, Carly, and Chikezie and Syesha weren't too bad.  We'll see who goes tonight!  The judges bickering is getting on my nerves-I'm half tempted to skip the live show and watch it later on computer-but then I would miss calling in!  They could shave 15 minutes off the show if they made the judges stop badgering each other and Ryan Seacrest!

Lynn

Judges

They are playing up the bickering to much this season. Probably because the talent is good so the audience doesn't have much to complain about. Just like we need conflict in a book, they need some on the show to catch and hold the interest of new viewers.

I'm not really sure who should go tonight. Syesha was good enough to stay, probably for a while, but I don't see her winning it, at this point at least. I still like Michael. Amanda has to start being more controlled. I think she gets caught up in her performance and forgets to watch her ennunciation (sp?) and voice control. She has a great sound if she can learn quick enough, she may go farther than Syesha.

Amanda goes...

I didn't think it would be her tonight!  I thought if anyone it would be Kristy - she's been in the bottom 3 forever, but she keeps hanging in there.  I hope the theme is something good next week.  The Ford commercial they did with the ufo's was hilarious!

Lynn

All I can think of is that

All I can think of is that Amanda was voted off because since America started voting, her performances haven't been the best. If most saw her during auditions and Hollywood week, I think she wouldn't have been voted off yet. Lots of people only watch once they can start voting. But anyways, I agree, Kristy should have been voted off.

Chikezie gone...

I didn't think it would be him this week, really thought that Remiele would be the one to go.  Everyone I talk to has thought she's too stiff.  Thought that David C. and Michael J. were terrific!  Fell asleep during Brook W.'s song!  Next week will probably be country songs as Dolly Parton is going to be the mentor.  I think the singing has been the best of all the years so far.  They could really cut Wednesday night's show to 1/2 hour, the phone calls are boring, although bringing on past finalists isn't too bad.  Always liked Kimberly Locke.

Lynn

I agree...

the hour is just stretched out with fillers...they could just do a half hour of eliminations and that would be fine with me.  I usually fall asleep by the end, because it is soooo boring.

Terri
Got Books?

I didn't think Chikizie

I didn't think Chikizie would go very far in the competition. His style isn't quite there yet. Jason (?the one with dredlocks) needs to sing a different type of song to show his range. His smile will only take him so far. Brook needs to bring some fire to her performances or the others will definitely beat her.

I agree that the results show only needs to be 1/2 hour. They could still bring in a former Idol to sing and have plenty of time to make the contestants sweat it out. The questions are ok but I wish they would pick better ones. Who cares if Simon thinks he is the best looking one?

My dd will enjoy next week. During auditions, there was agirl that they made her learn a Dolly song. She really liked her but had no clue who Dolly Parton was. Now she will get to know some more of her songs.

Dolly Parton

I'm a big country fan, but I thought they could have gotten someone besides Dolly Parton.  I thought David C. and David A. did very good, and Michael John rocked!  Poor Syesha, you never pick a song that's so closely associated with a big name.  I love the Whitney Houston version better than Dolly Parton's version.  I knew the judges would pan it unless she absolutely nailed it, and she didn't.  Simon is right about Carly - she needs to dress better, the other women all looked better than her.

Lynn

Country week

I think they went with Dolly because she has written so many songs and she is considered country/pop. We all know by now that Simon hates country and never has anything good to say to the contestants in past country weeks. At least this time he didn't hate everyones performances.

Syesha should never have picked her song. I think there has only been a handful of contestants that have pulled a Whitney song off without critism from the judges. If she wanted to do that song she should have gone strictly with Dolly's version of it. Michael John was my favorite out of the guys by far. Carly rocked her song. As for outfits, I didn't think hers was the worst of the night but she does need to get more glitz to them to match her abilities.

Tonight should be interesting. I think ?Jason? (the one with the dredlocks) will be voted off because he sounds the same every week.

I was wrong of course

I completely forgot about Ramiele's performance. She definitely belonged in the bottom three. I still like her voice more than Syesha's though. Oh, and Ramiele's outfit was not star quality worse than Carly's last night IMO. She should have been the one to get fashion advise from Simon.

Did they mention next weeks theme? I don't remember what it is if they did.

Last year....

they highly discouraged people from singing any artists like Whitney, Celine, and Mariah.  I was wondering why, and now I see.

Some of these kids arent strong enough to pull off those songs.  They try to imitate their idols and it doesnt work.

they should do the songs in their own styles.

Terri
Got Books?

I agree,

unless you're really going to nail the song, don't attempt it.  9 times out of 10 the judges will skewer you.  I thought Ramiele would go before Chikezie did - she  always looked as if she was scared, and you need to sing with confidence to get the votes.  Kristy Lee Cook keeps hanging in there, doesn't she?

I confess I didn't watch the show last night!  I was watching Criminal Minds and kept switching over to American Idol whenever there was a commercial break.  It's just too long for me.  Was surprised that Brooke was in the bottom 3 though.  How long can Jason stay in singing the same way and smiling?  Didn't hear what next week was, will have to travel to the web site to see if it says there.

Lynn

I'm torn...

the ones I thought were ones of the best - Michael and David Cook, didn't have the best of nights - their song choices weren't that great.  I also didn't think that Jason sang that great, even though the judge's thought he did.  I thought Syesha, Kristy and David A were very good.  Carly and Brooke were good.  If I had to guess bottom three, I'd say Brooke, Syesha and Jason.  We'll find out Thursday night!

Lynn

I would agree

with your guesses. I wish we were finding out tonight. I hate waiting LOL.

I don't believe it!

I just don't!  How could they vote him out?  Well, they've lost one viewer.

I'm shocked!!

And I think Ryan was unnecessarilly cruel. Did you see the hope that flared in Michael's eyes when he mentioned that last year they didn't send the lowest vote winner home. Michael must have thought for that second he would be safe. That wasn't cool at all!
