Drifter's Bar 3
by Sapphire-eHarlequin on July 8th, 2008, 9:03am
Hello and howdy partners!
Mosey on up to the bar and pull up a stool.
Whether you're looking for mayhem or men, you've come to the right place. Although we can't promise you'll find too many men in these here parts...you can be sure that we'll discuss 'em plenty!
Also, don't miss a single episode of Drifting Away, our online serial drama:
In the heart of Harley County, lay the sister towns of Reeder and Tooreeder, where something new (and sometimes deadly) is always happening, to keep the inhabitants busy.

Last time in Drifting
Last time in Drifting Away:
* Kylie and Darrel were buried together in Reeder. Enzo's artist friends donated a beautiful marble headstone, intricately detailed to honor the family.
* Cutty informed Pet that he made Darrel and Kylie officially married and provided her with a counterfeit document giving Kara legal guardianship of Max.
* Sphinx arrives to take care of Firefly, her care starting almost immediately.
* After Social Worker Lisa Howes tries to take Max following the funeral, Max is afraid to go home with Luke and Kara. Later that evening, when Pet calls to complain to the DA in Mexico, Missouri, she learns that not only is Lisa Howes NOT a social worker but she's also a known accomplice of Steve's.
* Carter is made the temporary One when Jett starts to have a breakdown from lack of sleep. In the moments following the order to take the reigns until One wakes up, Carter faces off with Agent Viper over his new ear-com then Gervais who doesn't want to take orders from him. Charlie and Dave, on the other hand, decide they're not going to make anything easy for their new leader.
* Liz is called back to New York to help with the temp who is supposed to be covering for her and gets friendly with her boss, attorney Xavier Taylor, while helping him to get free from the unwanted advances of the temp Miss Simpleton.
* Grady Ryerson, son of Xavier's law fimr partner, decides he needs a vacation. After hearing that Liz had come from Reeder and recalling the town being listed on an envelope on his father's desk, Grady decides a small cowpoke town may be just what he needs.
* Blake and Jana get married after he surprises her with the wedding of her dreams, including a walk down the aisle by Cutty and Libby.
* Ryder and Jami break up the day before the wedding but, after a not-so-kind word from Rafe, Ryder returns to the ranch to work things out with her. He's determined not to leave again and she's hoping she can keep from making him want to.
* During the wedding, Wag gets a few ideas concerning Bridget though fearful that it's too soon to actually propose.
* After leaving the wedding, Rook arranges the arrest of Lisa Howes who is following them. Then they take Max Luke's house and give him the tour of his new home, giving him his surprise gift from Carter, an ant farm from Heath and a brand new underground lab where he can do all his own experiments.
* Madeleine has her first day at her new job but is attacked by Matthew's pregnant girlfriend soon afterward. She ends up at the hospital under Wag's care while Hardy represents Nick in the waiting room with the family.
* Concerned for her sister and after talking to Hardy about Nick, Alina informs the family that, since Nick isn't one akin to permanent relationships, they will together work to force Nick away from Madeleine in the hopes that Madeleine will find that easier to recover from.
* Hardy takes young Daniel on a helicopter ride and meets Alina's "mama" Margaret.
* Joker returns from his childhood home after putting it up for sale following the deaths of his parents. While his mother finally slipped away after years in a coma, his father took his own life soon after, leaving Joker to deal with the loss on his own.
* Carter, having already seen the report on the clean-up from Joker's parents' home, makes a strong recommendation to Joker about seeing Sphinx when Joker berates a junior agent in front of him. Not long afterward, Carter makes the order to Dan to do the same thing when Dan can't seem to get a handle on Firefly's function to the team.
* Gervais and Ferret decide to run interference for each other while the other looks for the information they want. Gervais goes in search of the security tapes that will tell him who found the holes in his security while Ferret tries to make a phone call and send a fax on Sphinx to someone called Winter. Both are caught, and in a bit of temper when Gervais mouths off, Carter kills them both and sends them down to the new morgue for practice cadavers for the agency medics in training.
* Taffy Sweet, a young beautician traveling up to Reeder in the hopes of starting a new life for herself following the deaths of the grandparents who raised her, gets lost just off the old highway outside of Reeder and finds herself walking onto the manor property from the woods. After a fainting spell and getting thoroughly confused by who'd found her, she gets offered the possibility of a job from Carter/One and decides to grab at it.
* The Sterlings create a real Neverland on the manor property to surprise Firefly with a birthday party everyone can enjoy. Not only does she get the trampoline she told Taj she wanted, but she gets to keep the Tinkerbell outfit that's been fitted just for her to wear for her birthday party, of which everyone is attending in costume.
* After dropping off Sapphire from their date, Heath talks to Joe over some old photographs he'd found in his grandfather's things. Among them is a picture that includes Cutty's parents as well as a family photo with an uncle named Rick Bodaway who shares an uncanny resemblence with Rook that Heath had never heard of before. Then, after some prodding, Joe admits that Heath's mother Winna had first been engaged to Rick before he went off to Vietnam but had been reported dead. Not until after Winna had married their father Maddox did Rick return from being a POW, nearly destroying the new marriage until Rick's death while driving a big rig.
* While closing up the garage, Elena is kidnapped by Lotus and Thomas while Nikki is forced to witness from behing the closing garage doors. Stump, who'd been driving away during the attack, returns to find Elena gone and Nikki in shock right after. Having to call the police and then Gar, Stump reels with what just happened, none of them knowing that Elena and Gar were starting to suspect that she might be pregnant.
* Dancing alone under the stars after the wedding, Jana tells Blake that she's in labor, sending them on a mad rush to get to the hospital in time. Gina, having sensed the contractions, have everyone waiting for Blake and Jana to arrive. Almost immediately, Blake starts to sense that something's wrong.
* During the opening of Cutty's gift to Firefly, Pet gets a call from Wag that he and Bridget have found Blake's truck in the employee parking lot. He's able to tell Pet that Jana's gone into labor when Gina finds them.
* During the labor, Jana had some complications that included losing the function of her limbs, but gave birth to a baby boy and girl. Jana wakes to a place where she's sitting with Ryliegh but Ryliegh send her back, saying she's in the wrong place. Blake later confided to Libby that something was wrong with Jana, that they're not sure about her recovery. Libby, though telling Blake she'd keep it under her hat, decided she'd have to confide in Cutty.
* While everyone else was up waiting on Jana, Cordy and Izzy went to visit with Ryliegh, only to find she'd already passed away. Tate, though initially numb, became near hysterical and in need to hold his baby girl.
* Aleria and Knox, after hiding away in the garden to get away from everyone in order to talk privately about his situation, enjoy a contraband bottle of wine along with their extra piece of cake, only to be found drunk by Patricia. When Aleria tries to convey that nothing's going on between her and Knox romantically, Patricia misunderstands and ends up slapping her just before Cory comes for Aleria. After arguing with him about the situation, Patricia lays into Knox and starts away with the promise to go take a few lessons from Vanessa, leaving Knox to yell after her to no avail.
* Elena awakes to Lotus making plans with a man named Sojin over the phone and is soon told that she, as well as the young, pretty Nikki, are to be sold to him for his pleasure. Vowing revenge, Elena struggles but is eventually drugged to subdue her after Thomas tells Lotus that there is something different about Elena and her threats disturb him.
* Watching on as Elena struggles are three other captives that include the Marine, Jed, the son of Rook's female deputy Shirley. He's amazed by the new woman's tenacity and fight, hoping that the drugs don't keep her from remembering the rest of them if she manages to get away.
* When he sees his sister coming back to the party looking sad, Hardy pulls her into the pool with himself and the other mermaids, soon introducing her to Xander since he feels the doctor is safe enough to keep her company. When Baby complains about it, Hardy offers himself to her if she's a good girl but has to leave when Vanessa calls him over to do some diving as entertainment for the birthday girl.
* Joker, unable to enjoy the festivities especially after seeing Carter with Fenton then Max with Luke, decides to lose himself behind the bar in the parlor with a tall bottle of bourbon.
And now, back to our show!
Thanks, Saph!!
You da bestest!
Okay, I was going to copy the last couple of posts but I don't have time. My sis is here to go with me and Mom...so I'll just post a new one and make a run for it.
See you all later!

Xander Makes a Realization
Xander watched her giggle, playing with the shrimp tail. When he met Vanessa, she was a shock to his senses but Patricia…she was like a dream. Sweet and innocent yet not, all at once. And she wore the pixie outfit as if she were born for it. She could have been an angel.
She is so out of my league, he kept thinking, but couldn’t stop hoping she’d take a liking to him.
He had a few more of the tequila marinated shrimp from the cocktail and let himself relax. She was perfect company for him. He didn’t know how he knew that but he did. “How long have you been a nurse?” he asked her, feeling that it was the best question to ask as well as the most stupid one. “Are you specializing yet?”
“Surgical nurse,” she nodded. “I finished nursing school almost two years ago.” She started to really giggle then grabbed for her head. “I almost feel drunk.”
He blinked at her. “You don’t drink, do you?” Of course she didn’t drink, you idiot! She’s an angel. Angels don’t drink!
“Not usually,” she breathed, her skin looking flushed. “But I haven’t had anything to drink.”
“There’s tequila in the shrimp cocktail,” he informed, taking a bite of another one. “I’m sorry. I thought you knew.”
She shook her head and looked at the bounty of shrimp at their disposal. They’d eaten most of the marinated crustaceans from the giant glass. “Maybe if we add more to the drink, it’ll dilute it.”
“I don’t think that’ll work,” he confessed but she dumped a whole plate of shrimp into the cup and used a fried shrimp from another plate to push them all under the liquid of the glass. “But we can try it anyway,” he nodded, watching her take a bite of the fried appetizer. “Food usually does help metabolize the alcohol.”
“That’s the theory,” she laughed, swaying close to him. “Shhh,” she whispered, “don’t tell. Dad doesn’t like when I’ve been drinking.”
“I like to live,” he answered, feeling a tingle when she pressed her shoulder next to his. Noticing Hardy being lifted up to the top of the giant ladder and onto the diving board, he pointed her toward her brother. “Is he crazy?”
“Hardy’s a champion diver,” she answered, clapping at her brother before grabbing up a shrimp from the glass. “Oh, these are good. We should get more.”
“Why don’t we get more of the fried ones?” he suggested waving to the waiter to come over. He pointed at the plate with the fried shrimp and then at the bowl with the stuffed mushrooms in it. “Do you like mushrooms, Patricia?”
“Call me Trisha,” she answered, her eyes still on her brother. “You gotta see his lay up, Xander. Hardy’s got great form.”
The crowd went quiet as Hardy waddled to the edge of the diving board. Spreading his arms out, he took a deep breath and after a bounce he was in the air, twirling his way down to the water below. There was a loud cheer and everyone clapped when Hardy came out of the water much like a large fish might. He waved at everyone as he put on the harness to get carried back up to the top.
Xander couldn’t fathom doing something that insane, taking a drink from the cocktail without thinking. He swallowed, staring at the glass in his hands.
Oh, I’m going to pay for that later.
Patricia clapped and whistled beside him, cheering her brother on. Oh what the h3ll…why not? Everyone’s going to die someday. Might as well enjoy it, right?

Yeah!!
Excellent! We've got our new digs and a new post to go with it.
Outstanding summary Pet.
I just love Xander. The man has a point. Looking forward to more ladies.

Great posties!
Enjoyed the postie! Am having a bit of a problem getting here. Anyone else having a problem or is it just me?

I did
so i added it to my favorites using their button. Now when I log in and go to my profile page, I can just pick it from the favorites list and come straight here. Of course, I still have to navigate to the latest post --but its all good.
Hope you all have a great week. I won't get to play in here much, my oldest son is getting married Saturday morning. We have to pick up tuxes, get the food for the rehearsal and reception and go to a wedding. I am so excited. My daughter-in-law is so sweet. They have been engaged for over a year. They dated for over a year before that.
Talk to all of you later.
(A boat load of posties would be greatly appreciated)
Kelly
Really?
I didn't have any troubles at all.
That's odd.
Well, the trip to the casinos was almost a waste of time. I played a little bit, won back five bucks of the fifteen I'd played with, but there wasn't really anything worth applying for. It wasn't this hard finding work when I was sixteen, I can't figure out why it's so hard now.
Most of the jobs I find I know I can do, you need experience for, which I don't have for some of them. With the others, I don't have a drivers license. And I don't fully understand why you need to have a license for some of those jobs. It just seems silly that an attendance technician for the school district needs to be able to drive. They have interschool/interdistrict mail. I've worked in a school office before when I was a student.
Ugh...sorry for the rant, but it's getting frustrating.
Need to get dressed to run a couple of errands with Mom. I do have one post for all of you.
Enjoy.

Fenton Dances With Jackie
They only danced slow, no matter what. Fenton grinned down at his wife’s face and ignored the small changes time had made to it. She was still just as beautiful as the first time he ever laid eyes on her. He let his hand slip to the small curve of her lower back, allowing his fingertips to soothe away the little tensions that had been there.
Jackie took a deep breath, exhaling sensual warmth against his chest. If not for the crowd, he’d take her right there. She giggled, kissing at his neck. “I love that little growl, Fen,” she whispered. “Do it again.”
And he did but not because she asked for it. He did it because the feel of her lips gracing his skin drove him insane with want.
Another spout of laughter had them both glancing up to the mermaid lagoon where Patricia’s gentle soul was keeping company with the new doctor Fenton hadn’t made the time to check out completely. Noticing the flush of his daughter’s cheeks against the lazy eyes of the young man sitting half-dressed next to her, Fenton started to wonder if that was a mistake.
Still…it was nice to hear her laughing again.
Jackie crowded closer, her hand grabbing at his butt. He grinned down at her and kissed her nose. “You’re not concerned?”
“I’m too busy being elated,” she smiled. “She hasn’t laughed like that since she was….” She shook her head, grimacing at what she must have remembered. Fenton didn’t like her bad memories, refused to allow her any regrets. “It’s been too long, Fen. I want my children happy.”
“She’s drunk,” he whispered, looking over to see Patricia leaning against the man’s bare chest before pulling his face to hers. “I should put a stop to this.”
Jackie squeezed his left buttock and became very still. “Fenton,” she breathed, her breasts brushing his chest, “she’s not Vanessa.”
“Exactly,” he nodded, starting to feel torn between taking care of his child who happened to be a grown woman and the woman he’d grown to love more than life itself. “She’s not prepared to deal with this sort of situation.”
Jackie stepped into the tiny gap that had been separating them, nuzzling against him. “Her brothers are here and so are we. What can they do?” She kissed at his neck. “Besides, he’s a doctor, Fen. Finally, I’ll have something to shove into Suzanne Corrington’s face.”
Fenton chuckled. “Suzanne Cornwallis-Corrington is supposed to be your dear friend, Jackie,” he reminded. “You just told me so last week when I asked about blowing up Grant Corrington’s yacht.”
She rolled her eyes at him. “That’s because she is a dear friend,” she answered. “But that doesn’t change the fact that half the time I can’t stand her.” She pouted against his shoulder. “Just before we left to come here, she called to tell me about young Felicia’s climb up the social ladder, like my girls had failed because they weren’t making a name for themselves at the club.”
Fenton chuckled, shaking his head. His dear, loving wife had only gotten involved with the country club lifestyle as a means to appease his mother. Pressuring their children to do the same never became an issue since the children went to only the best schools and looked perfect on paper. Also, agent life was dangerous enough without all the backbiting involved in such elitist social circles.
“And our daughter getting tipsy with a doctor? That’ll stick it to Suzanne?” he teased. “Are you sure?”
Jackie pulled away just enough to wrap her arms around his neck and stand on tiptoe to kiss him. “Darling Fen, the man’s a surgeon. Felicia couldn’t compete with that unless she found herself a senator or something.”
Fenton looked again to the younger couple, seeing Carter start to take notice. Some pride welled up in him as he watched the concern in his son’s eyes. I did something right with those boys, he mused, knowing they’d always protect their sisters no matter what, just as they always have.
“How long do you think we need to chaperone this party?” he whispered against her ear as he pressed her closer while the song changed to an actual slow melody. “I have to say, beautiful, I’m not sure how much longer I can wait before having my way with you.”
She chuckled, slipping her hand somehow under the vest of his costume. “Didn’t you know, dear?” she breathed, her voice husky and scintillating. “I’m waiting for you to hit your boiling point. How else can I know you’ll ravish me properly?”
Fenton chuckled, kissing her softly. “Then I suppose we should dance a little more.” Tilting her face to his, he claimed a kiss and then a few others.
Really. He was only human. How was he expected not to love her so much?
Ahh...
... so sweet. Love to see Fen and Jackie together. Hope Trisha doesn't regret what she's doing. Although she has no reason to regret, and nothing's really happened yet.
Pet ~ do you have a State ID? Sometimes firms use the Driver's License just for secutiry purposes. Just tell them you've chosen not to get one. It's not that you can't get one, you've decided not to have one. There are a ton of people in New York that don't have one. There's no need. Most don't even have cars. I wonder if they're concerned on how you'll get to work.
Hope the search gets better.
Amina ;)
Yep.
Got the State ID.
And, now, most of them are being specific about which class of license the applicant needs to have.
Btw, does anyone know what happened to Entry Level jobs? I mean, I can do just about anything. I know I can.
All of this is making me want to throw something at my sister...if she'd had an ounce of responsibility in her, I could do this without stressing about how long it's taking.
Oh, and ANOTHER thing that's starting to really tick me off is that I keep finding jobs SHE'S qualified for because of certain skills she picked up with her louse. (Not that they worked all that often but the last year)
** ugh!! **
We're off to the store, be back later.
xoxoxo, Pet
great postie!
Thanks for the postie. Can't wait for more.
Good luck on the job hunt Pet.

Hey Pet,
Don't know if this will help, but you might want to search the internet for employment services in your area. Some specialize out here; legal, secretarial, industrial. Then go to them and let them qualify you for work. You know fill out forms, take tests, do the background check. Maybe that will help and if you can get signed on with two or three you should always have someone with work for you to do. (Now the future employers pay the fees, but you might want to check on that too.)
That's what I did when I graduated from high school and needed work. It is what I plan to do when I finish college if I don't already have a job.
Love the posts.
Thanks....
And, yeah, I've considered that. My only problem, again, is the driving. I don't and most of the agencies only promise temp work day-by-day, so I couldn't guarantee proper transportation.
Seriously, I need to just publish.
Who's ready for another post?
xoxoxo, Pet
ME
I'm ready.
I know you and your mom clean houses and such, have you done office buildings? You could always find, actually start your own cleaning service for office buildings. I did temp work when I was in college. Was signed up for a whole year and they didn't call me until two days before graduation ceremonies. But I did do the job. It was for two days, answering phones. My mom actually went through a huge hassel trying to find someone to come in and answer phones and take messages while she was on vacation. I think she's finally gotten somebody though.
If you have a local community college, check with them, they sometimes post jobs for on and off campus work.
Oooh....
Good idea, Amina.
It's been a while since I've been back to campus. Maybe I'll take a trip.

Cammi Talks to Carter
Cammi hung over the side of the pool, JJ walking up to her. Right beside him was Carter and they were both staring at the giggling couple leaning up against the giant boulder at the top of the lagoon. She put up her hand, shaking her head.
“Don’t ask,” she told them. “They’ve been up there since just before Luke left.”
Carter stared with amazement. “She’s…laughing. Really laughing.” He shook his head. “I want to be pissed that she’s drunk off her @$$ but she’s laughing.”
Cammi raised an eyebrow at him, looking to the other girls to see if they heard that. “She doesn’t laugh or something?” she asked when she found she was the only one in earshot. They were probably drawing straws to see who won Hardy. “She seems friendly enough.”
“She’s sweet like Kara,” Carter nodded, moving closer to her. “Xander. He being a gentleman?”
“Pretty much,” she shrugged. “He’s been ignoring all of the girls’ attempts to seduce him. I think they’re talking shop. He mentioned something about a scalpel getting stuck somewhere unpleasant not too long ago.”
“That was a joke he was telling her,” Sin appeared, swimming up to them. She smirked at Carter. “Your brother is dangerously naughty.”
“It’s hereditary,” Carter nodded. He sighed, looking at Cammi. “I’m sorry if I’m sounding like a putz of a brother, but my parents are starting to take notice and I’d hate for us to have to order a new doctor. If he tries anything, drown him until he’s sober?”
“You’ll notice she’s the one leaning on him,” Sin broke in. “I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.”
Cammi met JJ’s eyes. “The girls were noticing your cutlass, sir.”
His eyes darkened and Carter chuckled. “Don’t tell me,” Carter grinned, “they want to know if it’s to scale.”
“Something like that,” Cammi chuckled. “Really, sir,” she addressed JJ again, “couldn’t you have picked a less noticeable outfit.”
JJ muttered and grumbled.
“That’s like asking the Incredible Hulk to show reason,” Sin snickered. “It’s a good look for you, sir,” she smiled. “I would be right behind you if you decide to keep it.”
JJ grunted at her, a very unhappy sound. Cammi waved Sin away. “Hey, Carter, you know the Bodaways pretty well, don’t you?” As soon as he started to nod, she asked, “She fired Ginge and Mercy. Something to do with one of the babies, I don’t know what. But, they were wondering…can she really do that? Fire one of us?”
Carter laughed, shaking his head. “That was her way of telling them they’re no longer trusted to take care of the boys. They still have their day jobs.”
“Oh good,” she sighed. “Mercy was ready to cry until Hardy cheered her up with all his flirting.”
A splash from behind preceded Mercedes appearing from under the water. “Hey,” she gasped for air, moving up against Cammi to smile at the men. “Are we still training tomorrow?”
“First thing,” Carter nodded. “This party is a stress reliever slash celebration, not an excuse not to report for duty.” JJ grunted at his ear. “Except for those who attend a house of worship,” he amended. “Everyone needs to report in before they leave for that though.”
“Cool,” she smiled. “Thanks.”
She swam away and Cammi had the feeling that she didn’t want to know what that was all about. “When is the party over then?”
“The band turns back into field mice at midnight and the caterer stops serving at two.” He shrugged. “I’m thinking we’ll be done by then.”
Cammi shook her head. “You’re an optimist, aren’t you?”
“Yeah,” he sighed. “That’s hereditary too. And it sucks.”
She could only imagine.
OK..
... here's one of my dumb blonde moments... what's a cutlass. I was thinking car at first, but obviously it's something to do with the costume.
I think the Doctor has learned from his last experience to be very careful whom he gets involved with.
LOL
A cutlass is the long, somewhat curved blade that pirates and soldiers used to wear.
Hehehehehe...you're too funny, Amina.
Btw, anyone heard from Jana lately?
xoxoxo, Pet
Ahh
.. that makes sense now.
Nope haven't heard from Jana. Wondering if she's still recovering from the weekend.
It is a type of sword
Usually not as long or broad as a fighting sword, but more durable that a fencing sword.
I have 3 sons who love guns, knives, pirate movies, etc.
Kelly
Nope, not a word from Jana.
She must be working on something really, really good about Jana and the gang.
Sorry Pet, I didn't refresh before I responded to Amina. It came up when my post did.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Kelly
okay....
so I emailed the techies, and finally got a responce today, only I have to wait until I get home to call the 800 number they gave me, cause that's where my comp is....
Pet, have you tried looking on your county's assistance website?? Mine has a job site where they post jobs anyone could do in their area...and you can even specify distance and skill level, as well as apply on line. Of course a lot of them end up being wharehouse work, but not always fork lift driving, things like inventory, checking in loads, unloading; that kind of thing. As well as cashier jobs and some entry level secretarial work...something to look into...
Waves to all....

Nah...
She's probably just swamped with projects or busy with Blake...you know, newlyweds and all.
Oh, just so you know, we're likely to go see Dee tomorrow, so I won't be around tomorrow. Not sure about Friday either. I'm feeling the need for cuddle time.
I think the worst thing about applying for jobs is the waiting. No one has to call you and say, "we're looking at the applications now" or "we're done and we're sorry, but we picked someone else for the job".
Anyway, time for me to consider writing short stories to sell to magazines. Some of them pay by the word.

hmmmm
soooo this means you'll inundate us with posties right. hint hint hint

Well....
I was thinking about it, but Mom's changed her mind. She's going to go to Pala to apply for a job at a daycare and she's going to be my sister to take her.
So, I'll be home tomorrow.
Also, I found that I don't have the rest of my posties in order and I need to find where I left the few missing ones before I can proceed further.
We'll just have to see how tomorrow goes. Oh, yeah...and I'm going to walk down to the mall where the PetCo is and see what I can apply for.
See you tomorrow.

it;s fixed...
kinda....I'll be adding everyone to my friends lists again, they couldnt' connect me to my other profile....technical issues are all around us it seems....but at least I'm here...

I'm here
Not fully functioning, but I'm here. Was out the past two days trying to recuperate from this nasty vile cough I've been afflicted with. It's still hanging around but at least I'm not nearly passing out anymore. lol
Love the posts, Pet.
Hope the job search perks up. I know it sucks looking for employment no matter how qualified you are. There's such a demand for jobs that employers have decided that they can be as picky as they want to be. It isn't fair.

G'morning, All!!
Well, nothing's going as planned this morning it seems. I still need to run out to the pet store for Hammie's new wheel...I'm hoping he'll stop chewing on his cage bars soon.
Anyway, I've officially misplaced a couple of posts and I'm still looking for them. I very likely won't have any story for you until later in the afternoon at the earliest.
Liv--Yay! Well, kinda. Sent you a quick email.
Jana--Glad to have you back. And I just sent you a too long email too.
Well, I need to get dressed so I can head out...btw, I'm feeling better about the job search than before. Hope you're all having a good Thursday.

Jana Wakes Up And Wag Steps In
Someone had taken a hacksaw to her insides, Jana surmised and winced. She felt as though she’d been ripped open and all her guts torn out. She wished she could remember why. She’d come here for babies, she recalled. She hadn’t given anyone permission to cut her in half.
Blinking at the dim light overhead, she mumbled, “Drugs. Gimme.”
“That’s a good sign,” she heard Blake mumble.
Turning her head slightly, she groaned at how even that much movement sent a ripple of unbearable pain through her entire body.
“A good sign of what?” she grumbled, her voice sounding like gravel to her ears.
“You can feel something,” he grinned, taking her hand.
“I can feel every damn thing. What happened to the good drugs they gave me before? I couldn’t feel a d@mn thing.”
His smile faltered a bit and she wondered at it. “They wore off,” he replied simply.
Libby came into view and Jana tried to smile. Even that hurt.
“You don’t remember anything, do you?” her aunt smiled gently.
Jana tried reaching for her aunt but her limbs felt awkward and useless. It was almost as though they had been rewired wrong. Frowning at her aunt, she mumbled, “No. What the hell happened, anyway? Where are my babies?”
Blake’s grin widened and his eyes seemed to glow. “They’re resting up in the nursery. They’ve both decided that they’ll need all the energy they can in order to properly terrorize their mommy.”
“Ha. Ha,” she gritted and tried again to move her arm. It felt so clunky and didn’t go where she wanted it to. “What the hell is wrong with my arms?”
Blake’s smile faltered again and he looked down at her. “I don’t know, darlin’. Maybe it’s the drugs wearing off. The doctor said you’d feel sluggish for a while.”
“If there are any drugs left in my system I can’t tell it from the pain,” she growled, fighting the urge to sob. She knew it would only hurt worse.
“Hey there,” a big burly nurse seemed to bounce in. A male nurse, she thought and grunted. “I think I’ve got the golden ticket for a certain little mama,” he grinned, waving a hypodermic. “Just a little shot of Morphine for now. If things get worse we can get you a pump to release mild doses of Demerol as you need them but we usually try to put that off for as long as possible.”
“Whatever works,” she grinned and the nurse laughed.
He came around the other side of her bed and lifted her hand to insert he needle into the IV tube. “It’ll take a second or two to kick in but once it does you should feel like gold,” he winked. Pulling the needle out of the tube, he disposed of it in the hazardous waste bin before removing his gloves and patting her on the shoulder. “That should do you for now, cutie, but don’t hesitate to give me a call if it doesn’t seem to be working. Sometimes it takes a bit of the good juice to knock out the worst of the pain. The good news is that you’re able to feel the pain.”
“Why does everyone keep saying that?” she asked. It didn’t seem like much of a blessing to her that she felt as though her guts had been rearranged.
The nurse looked from Blake to Libby and then back down to Jana. “The doctor will be in to speak with you in a little while,” he told her cryptically and seemed to practically sprint from the hospital room.
“What the hell is going on, Blake?” she tried to shout but it came out more of a whisper. Her throat was so dry it felt like sandpaper.
He instinctively reached for a cup and poured water into it but then set it back down. “D@mn, nobody said whether or not she can have anything to drink,” he muttered to Libby who patted his shoulder. “I’ll go ask.”
Once her aunt was gone, Jana clumsily reached for Blake’s hand and gave it a squeeze. He looked down at her hand on his and then looked away. “What’s going on?” She nearly cried. Fear swept through her coldly and she bit her bottom lip. Something was wrong. Something bad, she feared.
“I don’t know, darlin’,” he admitted, his voice low and pained. “I don’t know. They said that one of the babies was pressed on a nerve before you delivered but beyond that, I don’t know.”
“I’m scared.” Scared of what, she couldn’t decide. She hadn’t known going in that she’d need to be afraid. Gina and Pet had both breezed through childbirth. No one had told her that things might be different for her.
Leaning down to kiss her, he nuzzled against her hair. “Everything’s going to be fine. Whatever happens we’ll face it together. And we’ve got an army of family to help us, too. Just hold on to that.”
“Blake,” she breathed and awkwardly reached for him, her hands fumbling. She gave up and took in a deep breath to stave off the anxiety that threatened to eat her alive. Instead, she tried to focus on the joys of the day.
“The babies. Tell me about the babies. Gosh, I don’t even know what we had,” she sighed. “Boys? Girls?” The pain was starting to ebb and fade to a mild ache and her eyes were starting to get heavy.
He leaned up and grinned broadly at her. “Better. One of each.”
“A boy and a girl?”
“I got to hold them a little while ago. Twenty fingers, twenty toes. And at least one of them has a healthy set of lungs.” His eyes misted up as he stroked her hair. “They’re so beautiful, darlin’. Both of them.”
Libby returned just then with a plastic pitcher of ice chips. As she rubbed Jana’s lips, she smiled at her and then turned to Blake. “Did you tell her what you want to name the little boy?”
“You’ve picked out a name without me?” she quirked her eyebrow at him.
Grinning sheepishly, he settled in the chair beside the bed and nodded. “I hope you’re okay with it.”
“Depends. What did you come up with?”
He looked at Libby who grinned. Looking back to Jana, he shrugged, “Brady Archimedes.”
“For your dad and Papa,” she breathed feeling her own eyes grow misty. “I love it. It’s absolutely perfect. But what about the little girl?”
“Don’t know,” he admitted sheepishly. “Hellion would be fitting, judging by her temperament already.”
He chuckled and described the way their little girl had hardly stopped screaming since she’d come out of the womb. “Looks like we’re in for it, huh?” she mumbled, her lips heavy.
“I’ll say,” a cheerful voice called into the room and Jana lifted her head drowsily.
“Waggie,” she grinned stupidly, her body feeling warm.
“Don’t go to sleep on me now, little bug. Your Papa gave me strict orders to make sure you’re in tip top shape.”
“Papa’s sweet,” she mumbled and closed her eyes.
“Jaaa-nnnaaa,” Wag sing-songed and Jana opened her eyes with a pout. He grinned at her as he removed her chart from the foot of the bed and began glancing through it. His frown didn’t sit well, though. “The little weasel didn’t mention the paralysis,” he grumbled.
“Paralysis?” she cried. “I’m paralyzed?”
Blake shook his head and gripped her hand as Wag looked up, surprise on his face. “Oh hell, I’m talking out loud. No, sweetheart, you’re not paralyzed. You just had some temporary paralysis during labor.” He clicked the chart shut and replaced it before rounding the bed and coming to stand near her. She let him pick up her hand as he counted her heart rate. “Libby said you’d noticed some problems with your motor skills?”
“If you mean my d@mn arms and hands won’t do what I tell them to, then yeah.”
He nodded as he removed his pin light from his front pocket to check her pupils. “I don’t want to scare you, little bug, but I think there’s a little more going on than a pressed nerve here.” He looked to Blake and her husband tightened his grip on her hand. “Unfortunately, I won’t know anything for certain until we’ve done some tests, though." He leaned his side against the rail of her bed. "Now, no pouting," he ordered. "I know you're tired, so for now, I want you to rest. While you sleep, I'll do the worrying about what’s going on. I’m going to order a CT scan and an MRI first thing. We'll wake you when we need you to back talk us. Do you think you’ll be okay with that?”
Trying very hard not to cry, Jana nodded. “I guess.”
“You’ll be brave for me, won’t you?” he asked with a comforting smile as he patted her shoulder. “I’m going to take excellent care of you, you know. I value my arse too much not to,” he winked.
“Where’s Bridget?” she thought to ask. She was a little surprised that her cousin hadn’t made an appearance. Or her sisters, for that matter.
Wag grinned a little and shrugged. “Couldn’t tear her away from those two stunners in the nursery. You’ve got yourself a couple of little heartbreakers. I pity you, man,” he smirked at Blake. “How you’re going to keep the boys away from that little looker down there is not something I’d care to have to deal with.”
“Yeah, you have enough trouble fending off admirers of your nurse,” Blake quipped.
Their chatter faded to a dull hum in her mind as she thought of her children who were waiting to meet her. A boy and a girl, her heart sighed. Brady Archimedes and—her mind blanked for a second on the girl and then it came to her in a blinding flash. “Ryleigh Elizabeth,” she whispered out loud and looked to Blake who had hushed mid-sentence when she’d spoken. “I want to name our daughter Ryleigh Elizabeth. Ryleigh for the sister I almost missed knowing and Elizabeth for your mother.”
Libby nodded from the foot of the bed. “Sounds perfect, love.”
“You’re sure?” Blake murmured. “Ryleigh—“ his voice trailed away and he looked to Libby and Wag as though unsure whether or not to go on.
But she already knew what he didn’t want her to know. “She’s at peace now,” Jana told them, knowing fully in her heart that what she spoke was true. She hadn’t dreamed her meeting with her best friend’s wife. Ryleigh had been as real to her as Blake was sitting beside her hospital bed.
“It happened while you were in delivery,” Libby sighed and hugged Wag as he passed by to excuse himself.
“I know,” Jana sniffed.
Blake looked at her oddly for a moment before leaning over to rest his forehead against hers. “I’m glad you came back to me, darlin’.”
She wished she could caress his face but her body still wouldn’t cooperate. Instead, she turned her head slightly and brushed her lips against his jaw. “I am, too.”

Wag Makes a Promise
Bridget couldn’t take her eyes off of her little cousins. They looked so tiny in their cribs and yet so sturdy and strong. Might have known a Hunter baby would come out looking like she was ready to slug someone, she giggled and waggled fingers at the little girl. She wondered who the little baby wrapped in pink would become. She had an inkling that whoever either of them became, the pair of them would take the world by storm.
If life was fair they would each inherit the best of both parents.
“You’re getting ideas, I hope?” Gina whispered as she came up behind Bridget to rest her chin on Bridget’s shoulder.
“I’m not even married, yet,” she giggled, thinking that it wouldn’t take much arm twisting for Reeves to talk her into one of those. Wedding or no wedding.
“You will be soon, if my instincts are correct and they almost always are,” Gina whispered and kissed her cheek.
Bridget leaned back against her cousin and smiled. She’d hoped she’d interpreted Reeves’s expression correctly while they’d danced at Jana’s wedding. She’d secretly hoped for a while that things might go in that direction. But Reeves being Reeves, she’d feared he might never get to that point.
Oh, she knew he loved her. Loved making love to her. Even loved having her as his assistant. But she’d halfway feared that no amount of love would ever bring her to where she most wanted to be—as his wife.
“Speaking of the devil,” Gina murmured and Bridget turned to find Reeves lumbering toward them. He swept Bridget up into his arms and just held her for a moment, inhaling deeply before he finally released her and turned to face the family.
“Well?” Uncle Cutty prodded. “How’s our girl?”
“I’m not sure yet. I’ve ordered a couple of tests, we're just waiting for the room to clear. Until then it’s uncertain.”
“But you have an idea,” Russell asked, stepping from the corner where he’d been silently observing the comings and goings of the waiting room. Bridget had found his quietness soothing.
“I have an idea,” Reeves confirmed. “I don’t want to say, though, until I know for certain. It wouldn’t be fair.”
“We need to be prepared,” Russell and Cutty said in unison with Cutty adding, “That’s why I wanted you to take over her care.”
Reeves looked too grim for Bridget’s comfort and she suddenly wished she had gone into Jana’s room with him. She hated being in the dark, not knowing what to do to help him.
Staring straight at Cutty, he nodded. “My first guess would be that she's had a mild stroke. With the amount of swelling she experienced throughout her pregnancy combined with the somewhat impaired motor skills that’s my initial thought. But like I said,” he added when Gina sniffed and reached for Russell. “I won’t know for sure until we’ve done a full battery of tests.” He looked at Cutty. "The MRI will tell us enough that I can start getting her better, order all the right blood work, begin the right drug regimens. That sort of thing."
“What if it was a stroke? What will that mean for her?” Delsin narrowed his eyes. “She’s not going to be permanently affected, will she?”
Reeves sighed heavily and rubbed the bridge of his nose. “I simply don’t know. Depending on the severity it’s possible she could experience some lasting effects. However, with the right amount of therapy it’s entirely possible that she could regain full motor function in a matter of months.”
“Months,” Jami hissed and sank to a chair. Ryder rubbed at her back and shoulders, attempting to sooth her as she cried quietly.
“Blake doesn’t know your impression yet?” Cutty asked, looking up when Libby appeared at the waiting room entrance.
“No. I didn’t want to say anything to them before I know anything for certain. She’s got some recovery to do from surgery and he needs to be strong for her. I want them both fully rested and as relaxed as possible.” He pulled a face. "Of course, after I told them I wanted to do another test or two on her before the end of the night, I don't know how much they'll get."
“Can we see her?” Jacey asked, coming to stand beside his brothers. He’d been quiet, as well, sitting in thoughtful contemplation. His quiet had frightened Bridget. She was unused to him being less than jovial. She’d wanted to shake him into making her laugh. They all could use a laugh right then, she thought.
“I think it best that everyone just go home and wait until tomorrow to see her. She’s had some pain medication and was getting a little loopy when I left. Let her rest.” He pointed at his own chest. "If anyone's going to be disturbing her, it'll be me and only me. I can take it if she yells and hollers at me."
Cutty nodded and pulled Libby into his embrace, his lips grazing her forehead as he whispered words of comfort to her. Bridget watched them for a moment, her aunt seeming so distraught, Cutty so strong.
Reeves pulled her back into his arms just then, telling her that he’d make sure that her cousin was better than new in no time. She knew he’d keep his promise. Everything just seemed so hopeless just then. What was the world coming to when perfectly lovely women were attacked in parking lots, perfectly healthy women suffered strokes in childbirth, and wonderful young boys lost their mothers too soon? It was all just so wildly unjust.
“Hey,” Reeves murmured into her ear as he led her back to the nursery window. They’d left the curtains up far past the time they normally did, but the nurses understood that the family needed the reminder of the little blessings nestled snuggly in their cribs behind the glass. “Everything’s going to be okay. And just think,” he squeezed her as they stared down at the now sleeping babies, “You’ll get to spoil them rotten so they can give their mama hell.”
Bridget sighed and rested her head back onto his shoulder. “I’m afraid she’s going to have more of that than she can stand.” Her tears finally rolled down her cheek and she turned to bury her face in his chest. “Oh Reeves, we have to make her better. We just have to.”
“We will,” he replied firmly, tucking his chin in her hair. “Count on it.”

Hehehehe...
Nope, I'm good, but thanks!
xoxoxo, Pet
Wag Tells Pet
He felt like a liar.
But holding Bridget and telling her what she wanted to hear was better than forcing her to glare at the grizzly truth of the worst possibility. No, that was his job and his alone. She wouldn't be able to pull herself emotionally away from the situation, not this time.
"Oh hell," Pet's voice complained. "What did I miss?"
Wag looked over to see her holding one of the boys. "I wondered where you went," he grinned. "Where's Rook?"
"Diaper change," she answered. "I have Hunter," she smiled, bobbing the baby in her arms, "he took Walker." She waved her finger in his direction and then at the departing family members. "What's going on, Wag? And don't try to brush me off like Daddy did. It's big, isn't it?"
Bridget sniffed, turning to face Pet. "There's a possibility that Jana had a mild stroke," she informed. She straightened her shoulders. "We're going to do everything we can."
Wag smiled, again thinking of their future together. She'd look beautiful in white, he mused before noticing the look on Pet's face. "Pet?"
"We weren't careful with her diet," she said, hugging Hunter close. "She was on bedrest for that last bit and I didn't even think about clots or atherosclerosis."
"No one could have predicted this, Pet," Wag reminded, almost amused at how easily she called the medical term for plaques building up in the veins by excess cholesterol and lipids. "Every pregnancy is different. Look at yours compared to hers."
"Right," she nodded. "I should have known to help take better care of her. All I did was scare her half to death most of the time and feed her everything she shouldn't have had." She slapped her hand over her eyes. "Blake's going to hate me and never let me near those babies."
"Hey," Rook cheered, stepping up just as she was about to really start crying. "Love?"
Pet wept something at him that Wag couldn't make out. Rook turned to stare at them. "Jana had a stroke?"
Bridget grinned. "You understood all that?"
"Love is it's own language," Rook chuckled, holding Pet while the boys reached for her hair. "How bad is it?"
"We don't know yet," Wag answered.
Pet said something else that had Rook shushing her. "You didn't do this," he whispered to her. "Blake won't hate you."
Wag shook his head, starting to reconsider asking Bridget about them having their own family one day. "Looks like she's having a long post pardum," he frowned. "She been like this a lot?"
"On and off," Rook answered, grinning. "We'll go home and she'll sleep. She'll be fine."
Pet slapped at his chest, sniffing herself calm. "This," she waved at herself, "is all your fault, Rook Bodaway," she scolded. "Don't you dare poke fun of me."
"Yes," he smiled, "I know." Bridget giggled while they watched Rook kiss Pet's forehead. "Won't happen again, love."
Pet pulled away from him, pausing only to untangle Walker's hand from her hair, to give Wag a kiss on his cheek. She looked at Bridget. "Post pardum can last up to eighteen months. And Jana hasn't even started up yet."
"Be nice," Wag scolded, waving her back to Rook. "You're not allowed to scare my girl away."
Pet cackled and Rook took her by the hand to lead her away. "G'night," he called, leaving them alone.
Bridget turned to face him, blinking up at him. "I remember what I read about strokes, Reeves," she said to him. "There's almost always some sort of permanent effect."
Wag nodded. "It all depends on the type of stroke, honey," he reminded.
"Dr. Wagner," an orderly waved to him from down the corridor. "The room's yours, sir."
He smiled at her. "I hope you're ready to see the inside of your cousin's head, honey."
He also hoped it wouldn't be as ugly as it could be.
From Me & Liv: Mark and Vanessa Meet Up with Hardy
Mark pulled away from Vanessa, looking down into her eyes and seeing her lick her moist lips. The kiss had been designed to distract her while he pulled her away from the dance floor. He knew it looked like they were having a good time, it was supposed to, but when she started her hand south on the dance floor Mark had spun her out away from him only to yank her back and plant one on her.
Several agents watched them leave the floor, some with knowing smiles on their faces, some with what could only be envy. He snickered to himself, if they only knew, he thought feeling Nessa stuff her hand into his back pocket.
"Easy now," he murmured to her knowing that she was on her way to getting drunk already. He hated doing it to her liver, but he had to have a way out somehow. I'm not into exhibitionism," he reminded her.
"No one's telling them to look," she purred, giggling.
"Aw, you're not leaving yet, are you?" The voice preceded the face, Hardy dripping his way over with three drinks in his hands. He pushed one into Vanessa's hand. "Mom and Dad are getting that look on their faces, Nessa," he warned. Mark glanced over to see the older couple kissing like sex-starved teenagers. Hardy stepped in front of Nessa. "Don't look. You don't want them to know you know, remember?"
"Oh," she chuckled, "You're right." She pulled her hand out of Mark's pocket to point at her brother's chest. "When you're right, you're right." Then she smirked at him. "But you're cutting into my party mood, Hard Luck. Don't you have a few mermaids to debauch?"
Hardy smiled wickedly. "They're busy fighting over me. I promised to wait it out so I didn't get hurt in the fray." He turned his face to Mark. "You don't mind the extra company for a little while, do you? Thanks," he cheered without giving Mark time to answer. "C'mon, Nessa. Keep a cold, blonde man company. It's your fault I have to put up with their Carter fantasies." He made a face and looked to Mark again. "What could they possibly see in him?"
Mark chuckled shaking his head and puffing out his chest, "I dunno, I mean Nessa's already got the best man here," he wrapped his arm around her shoulders as he spoke.
Hardy threw his head back and laughed. "Best man who ain't her brother," he came back with. "Hey. Is it true my brother eighty-sixed a guy earlier?" He took a pull of his drink, Vanessa following suit until she made a face. "I know, I know," he whispered to her, "but I had to go light on the juice with the folks watching."
"You and Carter always worry too much," she accused at him, trying to give him back the glass. "Pull the stick out of your @$$ and loosen up already. You'd think working for Dom Nico would've gotten some fun rubbed onto you."
Hardy chuckled. "Not when it comes to my sisters. That's why I left Shasha with Dr. Dull over there."
"You mean the guy who's been checking her tonsils with his tongue for the last half hour?" she teased, finishing her drink and handing back her glass to Hardy. "Good job. I'm proud of you," she added, starting to lean more into Mark. "You done playing bartender now?"
Hardy shook his head, swirling his own drink while looking past them to make a disgruntled noise, likely looking at his other sister in the arms of the doctor. "Nope." He smiled and nodded at Mark. "I've got some better stuff than this crap at that table over there." He nodded at Mark. "Keep a cold brother company for just a bit longer?"
Mark sipped from his own drink and lifted his brows at the strength of it. He nodded, dropping his hand low on Nessa's waist and squeezing her hip so they'd both see. "I don't see how I could possibly say no," he grinned, "seeing as how you're Nessa’s family and as a rule could give me a run for my money if I told you I'd rather be alone in the dark with your sister."
Hardy scoffed at that one. "I work for Bloody Nick." He shook his head. "I don't have to give anyone a running start anymore."
Mark chuckled at that one, "Point taken," he said moving his hand to Nessa's shoulder. "Should I keep my tongue to myself too?" he asked, pulling Nessa closer against him.
She blinked slowly, dropping her hand to his butt again. "Hell no," she complained. "I like you sharing your tongue."
"Can't let one sister have something and not allow it to the other," Hardy shrugged, leading them to his table. "Here, Nessa. You'll like this one," he said, sliding a glass over to her. "Sex on the beach," he grinned.
She started to laugh, taking the drink. "I generally, as a rule, hate sissy drinks, but I love the name of this one."
Hardy smiled, this time more wickedly. "I mixed it myself." He offered a glass to Mark. "This is some of my own scotch," he offered. "Remembered I had a bottle in the trunk of my car for just these occasions."
"Scotch is good," Mark said taking the glass and sipping. He nodded, sitting and hiding his surprise when Nessa plopped down on his lap.
He watched her drink from her glass and wrapped his arm around her to rub her thigh. "Comfortable, Nessa?" he asked, close to her ear.
"Mmm-hmm," she sighed, blinking very slowly while beginning to lean against his chest. "V'ry nice, Har Luck." She giggled. "Got 'nother?"
"Nope," Hardy grinned. "You haven't eaten much tonight, have you, Nessa?"
She smiled, petting her hand on Mark's cheek and smearing it across his face to say, "I ha-had other thins in my." She began to lean toward the table. "No need...for food."
Hardy chuckled, shaking his head. "Same predictable Nessa." He eyed Mark. "You really shouldn't let her drink so much," he smirked. "She can't handle it."
"Shuh-up," she complained, trying to stand but the table stopped her. "I can tay an-an-any thin,” she stopped to clear her throat and focus, “anything you can throw at me.” She wiggled her butt against Mark's lower half. "Tell 'im, Mark. Tell 'im."
"She says she can take anything you can throw at her," Mark said dutifully, setting his hands on either side of her hips.
He shifted in his chair trying to ignore the baser parts of his body. "I think maybe she should have a piece of bread or something at least." Mark glanced around her to Hardy, nodding towards a waiter.
Hardy gave the waiter a wave. "She doesn't like bread. Do you, Nessa?"
"Ew, no," she answered, letting Hardy slide her another cocktail like the first. "I like Sex-" She hiccupped. "On the Beach." She turned her face toward Mark. "On the floor, on the stairs, on the dirt...." She laughed, drinking. Before she put the glass down, her eyes began to droop.
Hardy leaned forward, slipping the glass from her fingers. "Sorry to ruin your plans, Mark," he offered, Vanessa pulling her head up at him. "But Vanessa and I, we've got this thing. It's an old game we've been playing since grade school. It's called Pay Back," he asserted at her. "You really need to start thinking ahead, Nessa."
She waved him off. "Whah?" she asked, grunting. "I," she said, dropping her hand against her chest. "I've ben drun b'for." She took a deep breath, forcing her eyes open. "@$$."
Hardy just chuckled. "So, Mark. While the vodka kicks in, how about we talk about where your hands are right now? Not on her @$$, I hope. Carter told you how protective we brothers are of our sisters, haven't we?"
Mark chuckled at him, patting Nessa's hips, "Not there, right here," he said, sliding up to her waist and moving her to one side so he could lean her against his shoulder.
"I think we should discuss your pay back for this stunt," he replied conversationally. He had to keep up his part of this little UC operation.
Hardy snickered. "You’re going to pay me back? How? Shoot my glass out again?"
"There's been a prankster here at the manor," Mark confessed, pointing to his hair, "That's why so many are blue," he sipped from his glass, "Blonde dyes really easily, did you know?"
Hardy laughed. "Yeah. That's why I always dye my hair dark." He shook his head. "Not that I'm worried about going blue. I have the cure for that one. Washes the blue right out."
Mark chuckled nodding his head, "Yeah, but I tend to lean more towards permanent reminders," he shrugged, pulling Nessa’s hand away from his zipper.
"Not in public, remember?"
Hardy waved her drink at her. "Right here, honey. Just like you like." She muttered something at him but grabbed at the drink. "You're dating the wrong girl if you don't like the public eye," he commented. "Now, you were saying?"
Mark laughed, watching Nessa try to connect the glass she held to her mouth. "I know that. I keep trying to tell her, but she keeps insisting on being in the open. We're trying to reach a compromise."
He drank from his glass and pointed to Hardy, "I was just saying that if I were going to do something it would be very noticeable and stick around long enough to be a daily reminder."
"But then I'd have to kill you," Hardy grinned, leaning forward to help his sister tilt her glass. "You'll find it doesn't take much to get her tipsy," he informed. "A little more vodka than required and you're golden. A little more than that and she'll have trouble remembering anything the next morning." He eyed Mark. "I'm only telling you now so you don't let it happen again. You'll have to find some other entertainment for tonight. I'll be taking care of my sister. It's what any good brother would do."
Mark sighed, feeling elation at Hardy’s confession but careful not to show it. "Well," he said, rubbing at Vanessa's back, "I could always oil my guns."
"Hey," Hardy made a face, "that's a bit more information than I needed, man. Euphemisms aside, that's just not something another guy needs to know."
Mark laughed, tipping his head back, "I was being serious, you @$$," he said, shaking his head. "That wasn't a euphemism. Honestly I don't need to do that, I can honestly say that I can find any woman to do that for me."
"Yeah," Hardy grinned. "I've met the mermaids and they're all pretty aggressive." He looked to Vanessa who was almost fully asleep. "How're you doing, Vanny?" he asked her. "Still with us?"
She tried to flip him off but her hand failed her. Hardy looked appalled. "Well, that's not very ladylike."
Mark chuckled taking her fingers in his and kissing the back of her hand. "When has Nessa ever been accused of being a lady?"
Hardy glared at him. "You're not allowed to say stuff like that," he grunted. "I don't care if she's been pulling her skirts over her head since before she was two, that's not for you to say."
"Sorry," Mark chuckled, "it's just that I was remembering how we first met, and the night we went dancing," he chuckled, kissing her cheek when she tried for his mouth and missed. "I meant no disrespect. Nessa's growing on me, really," he said, grinning when she snuggled closer to him.
"Yeah, she's like a fungus sometimes," Hardy returned. He waved his hands at her in a come to me fashion. "Hand her over but be gentle. I don't want her to toss her cookies all over me."
Mark laughed, standing with Nessa in his arms. "Spoken like a man who's not wearing a dress," Mark made to put her on Hardy's lap but paused. "Wait, you are wearing a dress, do you want me to put her somewhere so you can change?"
"Give me my sister and go play with your guns already," Hardy complained. He smiled. "If you're smart, you'll tell her you got plastered and woke up at the table without her. That's all the warning I'm giving you."

Hardy smirked. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Says the guy making time with my sister. Seriously, do you?"
"As Vanessa's brother, I'll tell you one thing," he held up his finger and wagged it one time, "one thing. As the right hand of Bloody Nick, you get nothing." he made a circle with his fingers and grinned.

He took his second step and stopped. "Hell, I'm am an @$$." He turned to stare at Mark. "That one thing...got all the looks in the family, didn't it?"
Mark chuckled at him nodding his head, "I
