Did you find a broken link? Are you finding it hard to get to where you want to go, or is something just not obvious. Let us know...

Search function seems to hang ...

the search works ... however, it usually freezes up my browser window for a bit .... sometimes for as much as a minute plus

it does work wonderfully though once it resumes

I'm using WinXP, IE7

What is the purpose of "favorites?"

What is the purpose of "favorites?"  When using them, you get brought to the beginning of the posts for that topic instead of just the "new" ones.  That is annoying.  It is diffiuclt to find where you left off.  Unless this is fixed there is no point in using "favorites."

Hi Vio ..... that's a glitch the techs have been working on and seem to be having a great deal of problems with

Jayne .... until they get that fixed, is there any way to get the post numbers displayed beside the time stamp ..... it's really hard to find the spot where you left off in a discussion if the next time you get back to it there are 40 unread posts .... if you click on the "40 new posts" it takes you to the beginning of the the thread, which is frustrating, but the red "new" doesn't display on the new posts, so you can't find which one was the last you read unless you go to the end of the thread and then count backwards

if we had a counter on each thread, (like the old board) then we at least would have that number as a referrence for the next time we visit a discussion

or is make it possible to search a discussion by date range ... you know how our personal blogs on the old site had the calendar we could click on to go to that day's posts ..... could we have that here with the discussions?  ..... is this perhaps the work around to fix the threads

also, I wanted to mention that the "search" function is still freezing up my computer while it does it's search ... frustrating because I can't even access other tabs while I'm waiting for the search to do it's thing

I have a tire kick! As

I have a tire kick! As mentioned above, it's tedious to find where to start reading in a topic. But the real "kicker" is that it *is* working on the "Book Challenge" forum. For example, if I'm on the Book Challenge Forum and I click on the "11 new" under a topic, it takes me to the proper page (page 6 in this case) and has those cute red new markers to show me where to read. But if I am at the "Steeple Hill" forum, and I click on "13 new", it takes me to page and post number 1, so I have to click on "last" and find my spot, except sometimes my spot is on the next to last page--you get the idea.

I guess it is extra frustrating 'coz I know it's working correctly on the "Book Challenge" Forum but not on others.

Thanks!

Hmmm, Barbara .......

if a discussion thread or blog entry has less than 50 entries, and you click on "11 new" it will take you to the newest entry ..... if a blog or discussion thread is more than 50 entries, than it takes you to the very first entry of the discussion

this is a glitch in the system ..... Jayne purposely increased the limit to 50 entries so that the "new" function would work on more threads .... I'm not sure, but I think 50 is the max. that can be set per page .... so it's still a site wide glitch, that if a discussion if more than one page in length you will always be taken to the beginning of the discussion  ... hopefully they will have it fixed soon

Hi Jayne ......

on the old site we could have a list of "favourite links" on our individual blogs .... the way it was set up we put in the url and the title we wanted to use for the link ... it was the title that appeared in our list

here, on our profile page, under "blog roll" we can sort of do the same .... but we can't give the url a title ... it's the entire url that appears in the list ....... is there anyway to have it set like the old site ?

I'd like to use that section like my web browser bookmarks .... I want to click on a member's "most recent blog posts" and save that url under their name in the "blog roll"  .... that way I can create my own list of individual eHarl blogs ..... similar to the list of members blogs we had in the "Book Challenge" folder ...

I know I can save their blog url's now .. but the length of the url is unattractive and the url doesn't give the member's name for identification ....

can this be done? .... isn't this another one of those options that can be switched on or off?

thanks!

PS ....  btw, some techie with alot of free time could actually build a section to the "Blog" page with a list of all the members blogs using the method I just suggested ..... it could be done in a drop down where all one had to do is scroll the list and click on a member's id ... and there could be a section in the list for the teams too (using the tag urls) .... just a thought!

Actually, try the "book challenge" forums.  They don't have this glitch, really!  I click on "11new" and it takes me right to page 9 with cute red "new" markers.  Since that and "steeple hill" are the 2 main forums I look at, I figured it was an issue with "steeple hill".  But I guess perhaps "book challenge" gets perks.  Wonder why it works there and not elsewhere?

Barbara ....

I don't presently have any "new" entries to view in the Book Challenge forums ......  or do you mean the Book Challenge reviews?

can you be more specific?  ... or better yet, make a short "testing testing" post on the discussion that seems to work .... that way I'll see a "new" and be able to click on it  and see what you mean

thanks!

christa--I think you explained it to me. When I look at the Steeple Hill stuff, I get there through "favorites" When I look at Book Challenge, I get there through the forum itself. For a test I just went to a Steeple Hill forum via the forum instead of "favorites" and it took me to the correct page complete with the cute red "new". Thanks!

Thanks Barbara .....

I see what you mean ..... this is how you got there, in case others want to do that too

using the "Forum" ---> "Book Challenge" ---> and then clicking on the "1 new" for a discussion it will take you to that "new" comment or the first new comment if there are more than one ....... this actually works for all the discussion forums where there are "new" comments ... but you must go through the "Forum" section in order for this to work

so no matter how you get to the discussion you want, it's still several clicks away (there is not quick click) ..... but at least going through the "Forums" will get you to the "new" spot

Search Function

I know I've posted this already but this is really frustrating

I'm using WinXP, Internet Explorer 7 ..... when I attempt to use the "search" at the top right, the function freezes up my browser while it's conducting it's search ...... this is extrememly frustrating because I cannot even access my other tabs or windows .... this is happening on all of my computers

can someone look into this please? ... I love the new search but if it's going to lock up my computer for several minutes (sometimes more than 5 min) I'll probably not use it

thanks!

Katherine T -- I just gave

Katherine T -- I just gave the "Community search" you mention a try and it works very quickly (as in just a few seconds) for me. I'm also using XP but I'm using Firefox, not IE. Just thought I'd add that to the information mix.

Thanks Barbara .....

so then it must be an IE7 issue ...... sadly I'm not about to change to firefox ... I have work related sites that I can only access using IE, and it's just too confusing right now for me to work with two browsers

so techies ... please turn off your Firefox and turn on your IE7 and see if you can replicate the hang up ... I'd appreciate it very much

I've been searching all morning for a book I'm positive that was reviewed here ... or if not reviewed commented on somewhere .... but the "search" function just hangs everything up .... and as we're now at over 5000 books reviewed it'll take forever to find it

so frustrating!

Diamonds Down Under board

When I try to access this board, I get a note that I'm not authorized to do that, and that I should sign in--but my computer signs me in automatically, so something doesn't make sense here. Help!

I"m not sure I get the problem

Hi Pam,

It's hard to diagnose a problem without being able to look over your shoulder.  But if you're posting in this forum, does it mean that your problem has resolved?  You can do an easy check to see if you are logged in by looking to see if there's a welcome message in the top right hand corner of your browser window.  If it says Welcome yourname! then you're in.

Jayne

Jayne .... have they moved

Jayne .... have they moved the Diamonds Down Under thread?  ..... I can't find it either

DDU and favourites

I keep getting the access denied message for the DDU thread too

Katherine- what I do (since I'm not real good at counting backwards) is have two windows open. Window 1 to favourites. If there are new messages in Forums I open second window and go to forum with new messages, when clicking new under replies it takes you to last message and new messages show up with the word new

Still learning the ropes

It was accidentally set to *retire*  I've resurrected it.  Sorry about that.

Jayne

Page advance function ......

Jayne, presently here on the forum discussions the "page numbers, and next / previous" function is enabled for both the top and bottom of the pages ...... is there anyway to get this enabled also for the blogs?  .... esp. for the Book Challenge main blog  ..... actually if they could turn this on site wide that would be good, that way it would work with the tag pages too .....

this would make it a little easier to move to the last post of a tag, or blog

Thanks Jayne ......

Diamonds Down Under is gone

Diamonds Down Under is gone again. I think somehow it got re-reset to disappear. The IT people need to dig a little deeper--I like the series and I want to post on the forum!

Missing link

Strange that you can't find it....it's still a live discussion, here's the LINK.

Jayne

Jayne, your link got me to

Jayne, your link got me to the DDU page--thanks very much--but that's still the only way I can get to it. And I know I'm signed in. I still think something is screwy deep down in the programming!

What's the status please????

Jayne or any other Hostie ... what's the status on the Search function?  ... it's still freezing up and locking me out of my webbrowser until it's done it's search ... this can take ages and ages

to search for an author, I now go to my own reviews and click on any author's name and then in the URL address edit it for the author I'm searching for ... this works faster than a snap of the finger ....

so any status on when the rest of the Search functions will be fixed ... it's rather frustrating to use search at all ... even to find Members that aren't on my friends list, the search freezes up

so unless it's a "tag" .. search is pretty useless right now

Expanding forum topic list ....

Hi Jayne or any Hostie / Tech

A while ago I wondered if the lovely See all Forums Topics! function could be expanded further ... so that we see all Forum Discussions  .....

I know this would make a huge page to scroll down ... but I'd rather scroll down than have to click back and forth all the time .... the only way to get to the "red new" spot is to go via the Forum / Topics / Discussions and that's alot of clicking back and forth .....

so if it is at all possible to offer the option to view All Forum Discussions, that would be wonderful!

Hi Jayne or Hostie / Tech ....

on our Profile page we presently have the option to view the comments we make ... however, this is limited only to comments left on blog entries

it would be ever so wonderful if we could have another list for "My Recent Review Comments" so that we can see what reviews we left comments on ..... I know, we can use "Favourites" function for that ... but that only clogs up the favourites list (for which I like to use to mark hot topics or forum discussions I like to follow)

so if it's possible, it would be loverly ... even if it's combined with the My Recent Comments ... is this doable?

I'm back at the table with our developers working on Phase II of community enhancements.  I'll certainly ask if this is an option.

Jayne

Hey Jayne!

so nice to "see" you  :)

while your talking to "the developers" can you ask for some perks / options for our Profile page .....

  • I'd like to have my friends show up in alpha order to make it easier to find them  ...
  • in the Blog Roll, I'd like to have the title of the site listed not the URL (like on the old site) and an increase in the number of links we can have
  • I'd like the option to edit the layout of the side bar ... ie be able to assign the order of the section ... for example move up my Blog Roll so that I don't have to scroll down everytime
  • it would be nice to have a Calendar that we can add our important info on ... this would be a great tool for eHarl too, because the site wide calendar could have important eHarl dates on it, but on our Profile page we could personalize the content ... ie add the release date of the next book written by our favourite authors  :)
  • I'd like the option to edit what shows up on Recent Friend Activity ... ie I don't need to know everytime a friend adds things to their favourites ... but I do want to know when they post a review or blog
  • also I'd like the option to set how many days is "recent"  ... on Recent Friend Activity ... sometimes I don't have time to check everyday

okay, that's it for now  :)

Oh one more thing :)   ...... perhaps the developers have found a spellchecker for us :)

Talking to developers

Dutifully copying everything down into her notepad!

Jayne

oh ... thought of more !!

perhaps in our Preferences on our Profile page, we could check off a button that indicates we are part of the Book Challenge .....

when this button is enabled, it could tell the program that this Member should be on the "Challenge Blogger's List" which can then be it's own section .... and it would also generate the email list for Lorie for sending out the monthly Challenge news .....  this also might help provide eHarl with Challenge statistics as by checking this button the program could then track specific Challenge data .... ie how often does the member post a book review etc  ... also, you can then have it that a Member must enable this button in order to have the privilege of posting a "Book Review"

perhaps, the program could notify Lorie when a "new" Member signs up for the Challenge and she could then send them a special "Welcome to the Challenge" email outlining how to post a book review and the various rules .... also with links to the forums that may be of interest to the new Challenger

actually, if you are planning a Book Challenge special page with the list of Challengers, you could have the new Challengers announced so that other Challengers know to keep an eye out for them and encourage them

it would be loverly to have Challenge blogger stats show up on whatever list is generated ... that way we can congratulate on milestones .... this would be great for both the Challengers personal milestones and for the entire Challenge milestones   :)

oh .... on our Personal Profile page, can we have our own personal tag cloud, showing the tags we've used thus making our own blogs searchable

okay .. that's it for now  :)

Search freezes my computer

Katherine, I think I've got the same problem you had.  I'm on Windows XP with IE, and everything on the site works perfectly until I type something into 'Community Search'. Initially it 'looks' as though something is happening, and then my entire computer freezes, and there's nothing I can do but close my internet connection down and start all over again,  Did you solve this, and if so can you tell me how because it is *so* frustrating. I thought it would be a quick and easy way to look for comments on my fav authors, but if it freezes my computer all the time as it's currently doing I'm going to have to look for some other way of doing that

Maggie

Master list

"actually, if you are planning a Book Challenge special page with the

them"

We should be launching a master list of all bloggers in mid-October when the main site redesign launches.  We don't have the ability to flag the NEW folks, but at least we'll be able to have everyone listed in one central place on the main blog landing page.

Jayne

oh, that sounds great Jayne!

I'm looking forward to seeing the Master list .... I'm really curious to see how large it is  :)

Daily online read

I hope this is the right place to address this.  The daily online read, Lightning Strikes, does not have today's chapter available.  Friday's chapter indicates that the next chapter will be available on October 21, so I think someone programmed the date in incorrectly.

Can this be corrected, please?

OK I already see (or rather don't see) on the new screen.... The page numbers are not at the top of each page meaning you have to scroll to the bottom to get to the last page.

Me too!

Ellen~I noticed (and got frustrated with) that same problem. I'm already bugged by even having to go to the last page in the first place, but now I have to scroll down to the bottom of the first page to even do that? Grrr...

Also, the new "face" stretches my screen out to where I have to scroll over to find the side bar. And yeah, I know if I changed my screen resolution that would end that but then the screen would be to small for me to read.

Color me frustrated today. *sigh*

medical romance e books

On the Shop portion of the site under Harlequin Medical Romance there is a link stating Medicals are now available in e books but the link just returns one to the EHarelquin Home Page. Can this be fixed? Also when searched the e book site didn't find any reference to Medicals either.

Linda, you are correct ....

I just checked and I'm rather surprised to see the link for Medical ebooks (which as you mentioned doesn't work)  .....  Medicals aren't for sale here in North America in the ebook format  ... I suppose the site designers simply forgot to remove that link from the book store template for that series

now there is a bit of good news .... you may already be aware that ebooks are now available directly from Mills and Boon UK   ... and all six of the M&B Medicals are offered for download

thanks for pointing out the error ... I'll pass that on
