Online Read - Bad Boy Blues by Pamela Yaye
Handsome Adam Kincaid might look like Renee Scott’s dream man, but personality-wise, he’s the complete opposite of what she’s looking for. The Hollington physics professor is serious, scholarly, uptight—and obviously looking for a serious relationship. The last thing Renee wants is to settle down. What she wants is a bad boy, someone confident and spontaneous to cut loose with—no strings attached.
Adam has known that Renee is the complete package, the perfect woman for him, from the moment he first laid eyes on the new college registrar. Can he convince her that a long-term relationship with him would be anything but boring?

Yup that was good. The chapter just drew me right in... now was she talking with the door open? that's a no-no if you're going to have a private conversation... hmmmm

*nods*...
I knew there was a reason I hadn't gone to bed yet, and I am so glad I hadn't.
This story has me already at the first chapter. The premise is great, and well, I can already feel the chemistry that Renee thinks she and I do believe her Gary Dourdan-doppleganger, Adam, have. And I must say that man has me and he hasn't even said a word. I really don't think he needs to.
But I sure am waiting anxiously to see what he has to say, and what he does, come chapter 2 !
Tuesday cannot get here fast enough.
Why
is it that we as woman sometimes feel that the bad boys have all the appeal? I too am wondering what the reaction will be from the professor overhearing this conversation. Great job Pamela it drew me right into the story.
Now come on ladies,
Thanks for your comments ladies. This is sure to be an interesting month!
Papaya, the door was only open a crack, but Adam made it his business to hear every juicy word! Ms. M raised a good question, one I am sure we will come back to over and over again. What is the appeal of bad-boys? I think confidence is sexy, so a guy who moves and acts and talks like he's "the man" gets me every time. I don't know if I'd settle down with a bad boy though. Would you? I'm sure you all have some bad boy stories/fantasies you'd love to share, so get to sharing!

Romance with the Registrar
Since I've worked in the Registrar's Office of a university for the last, oh, 35 years, this story caught my attention right away! I'm guessing Renee might be a bit spicier than most Registrars I've known, but that's what makes it fun. Besides, who knows what lurks under those staid exteriors?
If Adam heard it all, then I'm guessing he knows just what he needs to do to change Renee's mind about him. Can't wait to see what he does with that knowledge!
Oh, and I'm interested to know who her favorite CSI is. If she's including cast members past, perhaps Warrick or maybe Nick. (As much as I like George Eads, I can't say for sure what color his eyes are.) Or maybe her favorite is on one of the CSI offshoots.
In any case, Pamela, you definitely got me hooked!

Chapter Two
The chapter was interesting. However, Adam seems to be suffering from the dumb mans syndrome. You do not take a woman outside to see a male celebrity arriving on the college campus. What was he thinking? I can not wait to see what he considers letting out his more adventurous side.
The Gauntlet
Well, intentionally or not, Renee has thrown down the gauntlet, but Adam seems ready to accept the challenge and bring out his inner bad boy. It will be interesting to see how he does that.
Meanwhile, I had to laugh. After a month of watching her order, Adam has noticed that Renee is on a "strict diet" of pastries and Swiss cheese?!? I wish that pastries and Swiss cheese kept me super fit! There's one strict diet that wouldn't be so hard to adhere to!

Pamela, I am loving this story! Looking forward to see what happens between Adam and Renee. (I have a friend from back home named Renee Scott, so it's interesting seeing her face pop up in my head as I read this! LOL!)
Gary Dourdan, aka Warrick, has gorgeous hazel eyes! George Eads, aka Nick and my BT, has chocolate brown ones.

I love that Renee is so
I love that Renee is so quick on her feet. But most women are, aren't they? I don't think Adam is suffering from anything. He knows Renee is a football fan and decided to kill two birds with one stone--spend time with her and meet ex-NFL running back, Terrence Franklin.
Everything in moderation, JV. I'm sure my girlfriends and I aren't the only ones who treat ourselves to something we really enjoy everyday. What's the point of working out if you can't enjoy the things you like?

Hmm...
Renee has a serious case of judging a book by its cover.Maybe she's a bit superficial, I don't know. She's taken by Adam because he's drop dead gorgeous, but she thinks he's as fun as watching paint dry. It doesn't seem like she spent any time trying to get to know him very much. So, how does she know what he's truly like? Of course, she thinks she's only looking for a hot guy to have a good time with, so why bother getting to know the person much?
He could be a jack of all trades: beautiful, with a personality and many sides to him that she has yet to taken the time to uncover. Hell, she might just like the many sides I'm sure he has hidden. If she'd quit looking for Mr. Good Time she might find herself pleasantly surprised. I'd rather have a hot, caring fun man instead of one who is one-track minded. She may not be interested in long-term and looking for a good time, but that doesn't always guarantee she'll walk away unscathed, or that her feelings will remain uncompromised or hurt.
Maybe he'll show her what she's missing now that he knows what she craves. He did overhear her, but didn't let on, and he has plans, so I'm anxious to see what all he does. And hey, she said she owed him one, and he could use her words against her to get her to agree to giving him another shot.
Bring on chapter 3!
Alpha Male he is not!
I loved the first two chapters.... and whats kind of funny is sat nite I went on a date with a guy that sounds exactly like Adam.... but it was a blind date, which I will give a second chance. I wonder what Adam has in store for Kyra since he now knows what she wants.... oh and the beginning almost reminds me of the Ugly Truth that recently came out! anywoo... can't wait to find out what happens and I love Pamela Yaye as a writer.... So I know were in for a real treat!

Pamela, great 2 chapters
Renee just thinks she wants a bad boy, but Adam will show her otherwise I am sure. It will be interesting to see his real personality come out. He actually sounds kind of shy, and you really have to watch those shy ones...
Haven't we all been there?
I've been guilty of judging people a time or two myself. That's how we humans are, but I think women are especially bad for this. And Renee Scott is no different.
Thanks for your kind words, Cathy P and Simply Divine! When I found out I had been choosen to write the daily on-line read for September, I got out my notebook, put Motown 25 on blast, and worked on the story outline. But as I started writing Bad Boy Blues, I kept running into the same problem over and over again. The characters wouldn't do what I wanted them to! Especially that Adam. That man is a piece of work, but you'll see for yourselves what I'm talking about. (Don't worry, chapter 4 & 5 are coming....)

Hmmm...
Does he know how to jet ski? And ride a motorcycle? Perhaps he was a bad boy but let responsibility suck the fun from his life, and he needs someone like Renee... Where will he get a bike like that if she wants to see it?
Perhaps if you stick with bad boys and never know them beyond what is on the surface, you don't get hurt when it's over?
I thought the same thing
I thought the same thing Northwind! Can he jet ski? can he ride? where is he going to get a bike? Oh what a tangled web we weave...
He is pretty fit for a shy nerdy professor though, so maybe he does have some hiddent talents that we don't know about! Right now Kyra seems very shallow, but she is only looking for a good time... so I can kind of see her attitude... why dig deeper when she's not in it for the long haul.
I'm really liking this read, it's keeping my interest up... Kyra's looking for a good time and Adam is looking for keeps! Pamela, I'll bet you had grand old time trying to reconcile these two!

I'm among the group
who wondered if he knew how to ride either the motorcycle or jet ski. Maybe he's a reformed bad boy. I just don't want to see him change himself for her.
I was wondering if he knew the football player that's going to show up, and maybe 'impress' her with who he knows? Guess I'll have to wait and see!

Chapter Three
It was a good chapter. He told her some things about himself that are making her take a second look. Hmmmm interesting.
April...
I kinda hope that he does change himself somewhat for her and for himself. Sounds to me like he has been living the job, he needs to have a life outside of work, too. I think his thoughts in chapter 2 'he thought back to last night. Was she right? Had working long hours and marking too many homework assignments turned him into a bore?' say a lot...
Uh oh!
He'd better be able to come through on the bike and the jet ski thing. It will be interesting to see how he lives up to the reputation he's inventing to try to impress her.

I'm also wondering if Adam's
a reformed bad boy. I'm with the rest of you. Does he jet ski and can ride a motorcycle? He seemed to come up with the name of a cycle easy enough.
April, I think there is something in the description of this story stating that she and the football player were friends in college. I also got the impression that Adam personally knows him but doesn't care much for him. I'm sure that the football player will probably give Adam some competition in his chase of Renee.
That Adam is a mess. He's
That Adam is a mess. He's throwing down many gauntlets to get him some of Renee. First, the mention of the Jet Ski, then the Suzuki V-Storm motorcyle. I do believe there was something in there about how smoothly the lie rolled off his lips, and if it is and he uses these two things to impress her, I'm going to be on the floor if he happens to bite the dust.
Who knows, maybe Renee will tend to any wounds he might encounter, get to know him a bit better in the process. If I had a man willing to pull out all the stops to get me, I'd definitely give him a second look, and a third!
Adam's persistence cracked me up in this chapter. Looking forward to seeing what he's up to in the next.
Do you think chemistry is instantaneous?
After a long, busy day it's nice to come home, and read all of your highly entertaining comments about Adam and Renee. I like hearing what everyone thinks of the story. Sometimes to get the girl, you have to step it up and Adam definitely wants him some Renee.
I have a question for you guys. Do you think chemistry is instantaneous or can it develop over time? Renee went out with Adam and didn't feel the sparks, but he certainly did. This is one of the questions that started me on Renee and Adam's journey and I'm curious to know what your thoughts are. Share, share, share!

Chemistry
I think that chemistry is probably pretty much instantaneous but that desire and attraction and a solid relationship can be built over time as people discover facets of each other's personalities that were not obvious initially. In those cases, perhaps chemistry can be generated. Not sure.

Wayne, we've missed you!
I grew up with my male cousins and naturally have always had more male friends. I find myself always wanting to chat with guys and hear what they're thinking. So, when I didn't "see" you (Wayne) I figured you were real busy with your new book. I am looking forward to reading your comments this weekend. Hmm, Renee seemed a bit
Hmm, Renee seemed a bit caught up in all of Adam's charm. Of course, as hard-hitting as he is with his arsenal right now, I can almost see her weakening a bit more. Maybe even melting into a puddle with the way he's coming at her strong!
His hard work is paying off. Towards the end of their little rendezvous, she seemed almost anxious to see him again, even asking him to remember the cream for her coffee. Plus, she was second-guessing herself on her initial thought of him not being up to snuff or, as she mentioned, being too boring. Doesn't seem like he's too boring for her anymore.
He's breaking her down slowly but surely.
~~~~~~~~
And as for the chemistry question, I think it all depends. You could meet a person and feel the attraction the moment you meet, then there's the one where you meet, the attraction is there for you but not quite for the one you're feeling. Might be a little one-sided for various reasons—sort of like Renee and Adam.
That could be because the other person didn't see anything that pulled them in and made them want to know more, get closer. If so, then, either you walk away and find something better or if you just can't let go, see if there's a spark hiding somewhere, simply because something in you won't let them go. Like, you'd be missing out if you didn't try a bit harder to see if there's anything there at all. Sometimes there is and the payoff is quite a handsome reward, sometimes there just isn't. I think it depends on the people involved, how open they are to entering a (romantic) relationship, how much of themselves they're willing to give, and where they are in their lives. Too many factors to name, really, that could influence feelings, tamp them down and keep you guarded and have you pass up on a good thing.
Well, that's my take on it.
Well... she's beginning to
Well... she's beginning to come around so the "new" Adam is working... just hope he's not setting himself up for a big fall! I'm afraid he might though as there's bound to be a BBM coming in the second or third week of this story :)
Chemistry... I believe that chemistry can grow as you get to know each other or maybe it's there all along and you don't recognize it. A question to ponder... hmmmm.
Can chemistry be one-sided? hmmm, guess it's how you define chemistry. If you mean the spark that is there then yeah, I've seen it in others couples and experienced it myself. one of my ex-boyfriends wanted a much deeper relationship then I was willing to have with him and he was really hurt that I didn't feel the same. He had our mutual friends come and talk to me. I decided the best thing was to just not see him anymore. We were really good friends until then, but he was wanting a lot more then I wanted out of the relationship. I hate hurting other people, so it was really hard, but it was the only way. I met my DH about 3 yrs later and we started going out as friends. Our relationship gradually grew and 4 yrs later we were married. In a couple of weeks it will be 23 yrs married!
Yes, I have two books due. One at the end of September and the other 1st December. However, I tried to get on the boards I host and read comments and stories for at least and hour - two hours each day.,..
However, I like to read a full week's chapter and then post my comments.
I forgot to read chapter 3 yesterday so my comment regarding his bike-he's proably going to get someone to teach him to ride, hopefully he doesn't get hurt learning!! Loving this story. Adam's plan is working
I just know that all of this is going to blow up in his face at some time. Maybe he actually does jet-ski but doesn't have the cycle. Anyway, Renee is looking at him in a totally different way now. Can't help but feel she has been attracted to his body, but since they are (?) opposites, he must be the only one who really felt attracted enough to dig deeper.
I think that most of the time attraction is instantaneous on both peoples parts. In other cases, it can be on only one person's side, and grow over time as you get to know each other. Friendship and valuing the other person is a must in any relationship though. When my DH and I met, it was at a wedding where I was Maid-of-Honor and he was Best Man. I remember walking into the room for the rehearsal the night before, seeing him staring at me open mouthed, and all I could think of was, "Lord, I don't like the way he is looking at me, so please get me out of here." Everyone was talking about the way we were looking at each other for weeks. We started seeing each other as friends (on my part), and by the second week everyone said we were going to marry (including both of our parents). Laughingly, it took us 6 months to realize there was much more to our relationship than friendship, and we were married just a little over a year of the time we had met. We had our 35th Wedding Anniversary in April.
Why does everyone think that
Why does everyone think that he doesn't own a motorcycle and hasn't ever jet skiied?
It didn't ever enter my head that he was lying.
FF,
In the story, right after he tells her about his bike, it says:
So, if he was lying about having the motorcycle, he may have been lying about jet-skiing, too, to impress her. Maybe not. However, April may have the right idea about his being a reformed bad boy because I doubt a stodgy, "boring" college professor would otherwise know enough about them to come up with an actual model name and description.
So, we know he's at least fudging a little. The question is, how much and can he come through, as he will no doubt have to?
Is he or isn't he?
That Adam. All he wants is for Renee to look at him in a different light, and it's forcing him to step up his game in a big, BIG, way...I think chemistry can happen at any time in a relationship, but isn't it more fun when it happens the first time you meet?
Adam' s a sly dude.
Moth. Burning Flame. That's pretty much how Renee was the moment Adam —the new Mr. Big Stuff— strolled into the club, looking all kinds of fine. Hell, I would've ran to him.
His tricks seem to be working on Renee something fierce. First, she was writing him off, then he did his little song and dance with the bike and Jet-Ski, to their newly adopted breakfast rituals, the emails—everything. Brother is working hard for the honey named Renee, so to speak. I'm not mad at his game. She can't get him off her mind or shake the hold he has on her body's reactions to him, either.
Talk about a cliff-hanger ending. Can't wait to see what happens once she does meet up with him in the club!
Adam
has definitely stepped it up a notch. Whether he was ever a bad boy or not, it appears that he's embraced it for Renee now, and she's definitely biting. It will be interesting to see where they go from here!
