Weekly Online Read: Rochelle Alers' Man of Fame
Rochelle Alers introduces her Best Men Trilogy with Man of Fame a weekly online read that is sure delight our community members. In Man of Fame, a hot shot lawyer leaves his lucrative job to make a difference in his community, and romances a culinary student with a secret.
Jordan Wainwright was born with a platinum spoon in his mouth. As heir apparent to the Wainwright real estate dynasty, he’s never wanted for anything. But burnout prompted him to leave his seven-figure job at a prestigious law firm, and a quarrel with his cantankerous grandfather has him questioning his very place in the world. The only bright spot in Jordan’s life seems to be his budding romance with Natasha Parker, a woman he hires as his personal chef after his grandfather intimidated her out of a much-needed summer job.
Anxious to make a real difference in the lives of everyday people and not corporate fat cats, Jordan asks to join the private Harlem-based practice of his former mentor, Kyle Chatham. But his first case offers a unique challenge: taking on his grandfather’s corporation in a landlord-tenant dispute…

Nice first chapter, Rochelle
I think this is going to be a very interesting story. Looking forward to reading more.
Heyla Rochelle. An
Heyla Rochelle. An interesting start. I think the father named Jordan as his replacement because he knows that he canstand up to the grandfather. But Jordan's not going to be happy about it.

Man of Fate by Rochelle Alers
Since, I know a little about Jordan from Man of Fate;,which was an excellent read, I find this chapter very interesting. I can see Jordan's story blending in very well with the others in the series. I enjoyed the background information.
great start
a little interest and lots of intregue to come
Jordan and grandfather both seem to have a strong personality.
A little sparkle in the chef asistant to make jordan smile just a little and her
to return the smile
wonder what next week will bring
I concur
This story is off to an interesting start and that Dad is recommending Jordan because he thinks he can hold his own with the grandfather. I wonder how Edward (wasn't that Jordan's father's name?) feels with a domineering father-in-law and a snooty and icy wife. Sounds like he's stuck between a rock and a hard place. Egad!
I also wonder if there's more to Jordan's different appearance than simple genetic probability. Hmmmm.

Hey Family
Hey family,
hope everyone is doing well. I think this story is off to an interesting start. I read Man of Fate and I was wondering about Jordan's story. Good looking out Ms. Rochelle- I wish it was a daily, though. Well, just wanted to tell everyone hello and get in on the chats. I have really been missing them.
Howdy Sharon. Are you home
Howdy Sharon. Are you home yet? I hear on the radio that American troops are pulling out of the cities. Does this mean they will be home soon?

Hey Frenchie
the troops are pulling out, but it will be sometime next year before it's all done. I will keep you posted. i am glad to be back on the chat with you all. i will try to get on on for every chapter. well, i hope you all are well and happy. BlessingS!
Thank you and Welcome
I woukd like to thank everyone who posted comments about the first chapter of MAN OF FAME.
When I was asked to create a new family series I immediately thought of Jordan Wainwright, because he literally jumped off the page in MAN OF FATE. The Wainwrights are an interesting bunch because they are hiding more secrets than the CIA.
Read and enjoy the next seven chapters and look the first title in the Wainwright family saga late 2010.
Rochelle Alers
Hey Rochelle, glad to see
Hey Rochelle, glad to see you back! you are off to a good start with this story!
I think I can see why Edward wants Jordan to replace him. He knows Jordan will be able stand up to the old man. Just hoping that Jordan sticks to what he really wants to do. If he wants the job great, if not then I'm hoping he'll stand up for himself and not give in to pressure from his mom/dad. Meanwhile, I'm glad to see he's willing to give back to the community and take on the family business in the landlord/tennant case.
JV, I was wondering the same thing since a point was made of Jordan's different coloring from the rest of the family... then Rocelle mentioned the family has more secrets than the CIA
makes you want to unravel them all. I'm sure this prequel is just going to pique our imaginations and we'll be chomping at the bit... 2010 is a looooonnnnggg time to wait
Sharon, good to see you back chatting with us. You are still on my prayer list for a safe return.

I'm enjoying this story..a great start.
Having to wait a whole week seems so long.
Of course, a hero who's name is Jordan (my last name), makes the read even more memorable.

I didn't even know there
I didn't even know there was going to be an online read featuring Jordan and his family, though he intrigued me the moment he showed up in Man of Fortune. And he's endeared himself to me in this first chapter. He, and maybe even his father and siblings, seem to be the most sane ones of the bunch. I just worry about that icicle of a mother he has, and of course his ever-controlling grandfather.
Looking forward to the secrets unraveling here, and reading about how Jordan and his girl, Natasha, first hooked up. And I already can't wait for next summer so I can check out the books on the Wainwright family. :)
Really great chapter,
Really great chapter, Rochelle. I like this hero and I like what I think is going to be the heroine.

Natty is a mess with her little self...
Natasha/Natty is a mess with her little self-LOL. I think she is about to learn to let the sarcasm go as for racial comments directed towards Jordan. She has defintely met her match with Jordan. . It's funny how we as people do that right after accusing/assuming another person is racially challenged, but I know Jordan is getting ready to put her in check. With these two strong personalities I can't wait for this to really unfold. It's going to be very interesting. Sure hate it's a weekly.
Wayne,
you really should push for more daily 's.
you can do it. there is already a hero named after you in this story. that alone should give you the upper hand you need.
Thanks for the prayers Papaya. I really appreciate them and I am glad to be back on line with you all.
I'm glad you are all
I'm glad you are all enjoying the story.
I know you all wish you could have more daily story, but I'm sure there is a schedule for the number of daily, weekly stories each month.

Man of Fame
The second chapter is really great. However, this chapter a week is killing me. I am not the most patient person. I have already read the second book in the Best Men series. Is there no concern about the anxiety this is causing some people, namely me.
Great 2nd chapter. Hmmmm,
Great 2nd chapter. Hmmmm, what are you going to do Jordan? Leave her on the side of the road? See things like this is why I constantly wish my life away. Can't wait until the 13th. Never looked forward to a Monday before.

I think Natalie is still in
I think Natalie is still in a bit of a snit from Jordan's grandfather's ugliness. Can't really say I blame her, but just like Wyatt shouldn't paint everyone from Harlen with the same brush, so she shouldn't paint all Wainwrights or rich and privileged people with the same brush. Since she was in the room and witnessed the argument between Jordan and Wyatt, she already realizes that Jordan is not the same sort of person his grandfather is.
I'm sure Jordan won't put her out on the side of the road, regardless, but I imagine she'll cool down a bit and ease up on Jordan.

Another great chapter, Rochelle!
Quite a few fireworks in this chapter -- appropriate for the 4th of July! LOL! The Wainwrights are a very, very interesting family.
Both Jordan and Natasha are very strong willed people. I wish she HAD poured the water pitcher over Wyatt's head. He definitely deserved it for his nasty comments to Jordan and then her. It will be very interesting to watch this story play out between them and his family -- especially with his grandfather.
Rochelle, more secrets than the CIA? From the first 2 chapters, I can definitely believe it!
I also wish this was a full length book so we could read it. However, it's also some fun to savor and look forward to being spoon fed each week's chapter. Pure torture is more like it. LOL!
HI, SHARON!!!!! Glad to see you are with us again. I have also kept you in my prayers, and have missed your comments.
Man of Fame
Ms. Alers, first of all, I am glad to have you back with such an intriguing story, but waiting until every Monday
. I am excited to see where Jordan and Natasha's romance will go. Oh the Wainwright's secrets, I can't wait
.
Every Monday??? I don't think I can wait till next week!!!
I read on another message board about "Man of Fame" and it looks like it's going to be a great story. I have read "Man of Fate" and "Man of Fortune". Both were great stories!!! and the book covers- sssssss -HOT! HOT!! HOT!!!!!! What a great "filler" until "Man of Fantasy" comes next month. Can't wait till the Wainwrights family stories come out. Great job Rochelle!!!
Ha, I love Jordan and
Ha, I love Jordan and Natasha's connection already. She's a little spitfire, and she's refreshing change to Jordan, it seems to me. And I seriously doubt Jordan is going to throw her out of the car. I think he'd much rather do something else a little more constructive than that with her. She can take his teasing jibes and throw them right back in his face. I already adore these two.
I didn't even realize this was only weekly! Damn, and now I have to wait another week for the next installment. But I'll do it each and every time. Jordan and Natasha's easy rapport and the crazy Wainwright family, they're worth it.
Loved this second chapter. Looking forward to next Monday. :)
SIMPLY HOT.....
I am loving it oh how I am loving. The Best Man series was hot I have come to think of Jordan as the fourth member of the trio as well as a man of his own style making him just as well a Best Man. I am hot... how about I just realize I got to wait a week for the next installment this ain't right... Boy oh boy okay I am ghost I got to go find a cold glass of water because Jordan got me hot because I can see the fire burning between Natasha and him.

Ms. Alers has really done
Ms. Alers has really done it with this series. I've enjoyed each of the first two books in the series and am enjoying the online story. Yeah, waiting a whole week is hard, but worth it. Can't wait to read the final book in the series and the upcoming continuation of the Wainwright series in the Kimani Romance line.

Great story line.... Girl!
Great characters
Rochelle, you are one of my top three favorite authors out of ten and your a NY home girl. I love how this family series is starting it make you want to beg for a sooner release of the Waineright's. This weekly is long enough and now you want us to suffer until 2010.
I'm looking forward to it, I guess that's more space I have to hide you along with the Cole's series collection.
Man of Fame
I'm enjoying Man of Fame. A week is a long time to wait for the next chapter. But I love rushing to my computer to read the next chapter. The Best Men series is great. I can't wait for Ivan story next. I enjoy the these summer series. Can't wait for the Wainwrights series.
Daily vs. Weekly
I am aware that online readers prefer a daily read - myself included - but when I was asked to write an online tie-in to the BEST MEN miniseries I was involved with other projects. Therefore, writing 8 chapters as opposed to 20 was doable considering my hectic writing schedule.
To say the Wainwrights are a "funky" bunch is putting it mildly. Wealthy, a little crazy but totally entertaining. Jordan is an in your face and no holds barred hero, and that makes him somewhat edgy. And he has to be edgy to deal with the clients who live in Harlem because they are very different from the clients at TCB.
Keep reading and enjoy

Great story so far!
Hi. Great story so far Rochelle! I like Jordan's character. He seems to be a guy with strong moral fiber and is willing to be a real man and stand up for what he believes in. I highly respect guys like that, as a guy myself.
I also like the heroine. She doesn't let any put her down and i personally like (and very much respect) that independence and strong character in women. She seems like a very intelligent, strong young woman.
Can't wait to keep reading more!
Best,
Kevin.
I'm loving this story.
I'm loving this story. Glad Natasha calmed down some and realized he was not like other men she knew. I think they will be good for each other. I really like Jordan and his ethics... can't wait to get the full length book, but I think I'll start with the Best Men trilogy. I want to read Kyle's story too...

Chapter Three
Yes, these chapters are so good they are whetting my appetite for more. Jordan and Natasha are fabulous together , each of them challenging the other perceptions.
Finally
They are settling in to be themselves a bit rather than each making assumptions and throwing up barriers. I'm interested to see how they progress!

Is it next Monday yet?
Oh, Jordan is something else, and I do believe he's met his perfect little match in Natasha.I think I laughed when he burst into song during the drive, Flo Rida, of all people. From then on, he just endeared me to him. And I love how he realized how similar they were, yet how different, when he realized he took everything he could easily have waiting for him at his feet for granted, but he was sent right back down to earth when Natasha told him of her troubles and made him realize he very fortunate to have what he did.
The rest of this date should be interesting. But what I'm interested in is how things will be once she starts working for him as his personal chef. Should be quite interesting, because that little slip of a woman has made a big impact on ol' Jordan, whether he fully realizes it or not. She's gotten under his skin, and I don't think he wants her to get out...
Each chapter leaves me in love with this story more and more. Now, where's next Monday at?
So far, so good
I like Jordan & Natty's story so far.
When your friend becomes your foe, into the street your business will go!
Can we get 2 chapters a week?
Dang!!! I was just getting into the story and starting to develop feeling for Jordan and then the end of the chapter. I really like the chemistry between Jordan and Natty. I will be out of town next Monday so I'll have to wait until I get back to catch up!! Bummer. Can we get 2 chapters a week instead of 1, I really really need 2.
Rochelle
They are finally getting to know each other. Love these two characters, and can't wait to find out what secrets the Wainwrights have and possibly Natty too.

I feel...
...a deeper relationship and a transfer to the French Culinary Institute coming on, rather than Natty's leaving him to go back to the school in Rhode Island. After all, she can commute between Manhattan and Newark, and Jordan has the money to afford the tuition. I suspect they are both going to want her to stay where she is.

Now you want to take it slow...
Now you want to take it slow. I don't think anything is gonna be slow like Natalie wants. Their chemistry is just to combustible for that. I mean, dang, the first kiss was HOT! So, I really think she's gonna end up eating those words...literally. Great story so far. I am so looking forward to the rest of this Jordan and Natty Thing.
Hope everyone's weekend was great and filled with blessing...even if you did not recognize them until now.

Finally...I am registered and ready to talk! Thank you, Ms. Alers, for penning such a wonderful story! I've read Man of Fate and wondered if there was a back story on Jordan and Natasha...and here it is!! Thank you again!
I love the fact that this is an interracial romance. I believe love is colorblind, so it really makes me happy to read stories involving various ethnicities. I am loving the chapter a week thing, but seriously, a week is too long to wait!!
