Paranormal Romance Circle

So, what does it mean to you if something is paranormal? Is it about vampires, time travel, psychic abilities, or perhaps something unconventional (like mythology is true and there are thousands of gods alive in this realm we live in).

How do you other writers of paranormal romance go about incorporating paranormal elements without ruining the romance or believability level? How do you readers like paranormal elements? What elements are too unbelievable? What elements can be easily accepted because of your beliefs or your need to suspend disbelief for a while?

Can you tell I've been wanting to write this thread for a long time now?

BTW....who would love to see Dreamscapes publish new authors, not just reissues of stories?

Paranormal means to me

vampires, werewolves, dragons, shifters and so on, as well as stories involving psychic abilities; I would also categorize some time-travel stories as paranormal, but on the whole not.

Some examples of writers that I think of as paranormal are

  1. J. R. Ward (Black Dagger Brotherhood / vampires)
  2. Angela Knight (Mageverse series)
  3. Keri Arthur (Riley Jenson, Guardian)
  4. Kelley Armstrong (werewolves)
  5. Nalini Singh (PSY / Changeling series)
  6. Kay Hooper (mostly Romantic Suspense, but her Bishop series definitely borders on the paranormal)

and so on.
For the most part, other worlds come under the fantasy / Sci-fi label as do gods, angels and most time-travel stories.

That's my 2¢ worth anyway.  Laughing

Hi Latessa Welcome to

Hi Latessa

Welcome to Luna Land ! ! Nice to meet you

I'm the host for Luna, feel free to ask me if you need anything

looking about

wanting to get involved. also attempting to find my writer "voice". entered a piece over in the Writer Challenge forum that someone suggested was Nocturne in nature. i was thinking it was more Luna (or is there much of a difference?)

it's called Song of the Sea and is on page 9 (i think) of the Writer Challenge archive pages iffen you'd like to take a gander at it and tell me what you think.

to me, paranormal is pretty much about anything that cannot be explained away by science and logic.

Don't argue with idiots. They will drag you down and then beat you with experience.
