Walking Dead by C.E. Murphy

According to one source C.E. (Catie) Murphy began her writing career when she ran away from home at age five to write copy for the circus that had come to town. You would think she might remember this, but her own earliest memory regarding writing is from age six, when she submitted three poems to a school publication. The teacher producing the magazine selected (inevitably) the one she thought was by far the worst, but also told her--a six year old--to keep writing.

A born Alaskan, Catie has relocated to her ancestral homeland of Ireland. She lives in County Cork with her husband and several pets.  Her hobbies include walking, photography, sewing and with any luck, scuba-diving.

Readers are invited to visit her website and her blog.

For once, Joanne Walker's not out to save the world. She's come to terms with the host of shamanic powers she's been given, her job as a police detective has been relatively calm, and she's got a love life for the first time in memory. Not bad for a woman who started out the year mostly dead. But it's Halloween, and the undead have just crashed Joanne's party. Now, with her mentor Coyote still missing, she has to figure out how to break the spell that has let the ghosts, zombies and even the Wild Hunt come back. Unfortunately, there's no shamanic handbook explaining how to deal with the walking dead. And if they have anything to say about it—which they do—no one's getting out of there alive.

Anybody home?

Hellloo! Anybody around? Half the universe got WALKING DEAD two weeks ago...are you among the lucky ones?

WALKING DEAD--out now!

Just got it yesterday and

Just got it yesterday and haven't had a chance to read it yet. I got about 5 pages in and got interupted.. Looking forward to it though

Its on the to be bought list

Its on the to be bought list, but funds are tight at the moment.  Shall see if the library has ordered it, and will buy my copy when $$ is better.  Sounds good!

Lynne

I'm in the same boat.  No

I'm in the same boat.  No funds.  But I definitely want, need, must have this book.

yeah that's a major

yeah that's a major drawback to buying the LUNA books from HQ. We can't even order them until they've been in stores for a couple weeks! Same with MIRA and HQN.

I get them all in audio though so that means i have to wait even longer since the books are NEVER put up on time at Audible and they never go up early (or rather, on the actual street date of the book.)

Not in my library

The local Library doesn't have it - but I've sent in a request, pointing out that they have all the rest of the Walker Paper books in their collection.  Asked for them to order it in ebook, so maybe I'll luck out and they'll get it soon.  One other time I suggested that they buy Donna Alward's ebooks, given she's a Nova Scotian (we live in the same 'greater' city) and they went right out and bought an ecopy of everything that was then available.   It was a terrific way for me to read backlist, though I've still bought my own copies as funds permitted.

If I like a book, I need to own it - how else can you re-read it down the road?  Tongue out  I really enjoyed the other stories about Joanne.

Catie - if you're checking in - I've got a question about the Queen's Bastard.  I have to admit I got bogged down in it, being tired when I tried it, and got lost by some of the layers of intrigue.  I'm going to try it again when I've got more time to dedicate to it.  But meanwhile, its sitting out in plain sight, and my almost 15 year old son asked if he could read it.  He's reading Stephen King, and has read Brent Weeks Night Angel trilogy, to give you an idea of what he currently reads.   I stopped not long after the heroine left the place where we met her, to avoid being accused of poisoning the lord.  She's in that second city, and just had a meeting with her father....  So there's been some sex and violence.  Does the book get much more explicit beyond that point??

Thanks for your guidance and thoughts!

Lynne

BOUGHT IT

I was shopping at lunch time today, so of course went in to the bookstore.  And there was a copy of Walking Dead, just calling me.  The only copy on the shelf, and I had just remembered that morning that I had a gift card in my purse for the bookstore.  So I bought it.

Maybe this weekend??  Looking forward to 3 days off.

Lynne

oh! look! People!

Hi people! I'm excited that you're here! :)

WALKING DEAD is available on Audible.com, according to my sources. It went up on the first!

B'lieve me, I understand about the funds thing, and I hope everyone's libraries will get copies soon! In the meantime, maybe I should run a little give-away contest here for one lucky reader? :)

WALKING DEAD--out now!

The Queen's Bastard

Lynne--

TQB does get a lot more explicit and violent as it goes on. I'm afraid Belinda's not a very  nice person... :)

But I'm glad you were able to pick up a copy of WALKING DEAD! I promise it's a lighter read than QUEEN'S BASTARD. :)

WALKING DEAD--out now!

Yeah I bought my copy of WD

Yeah I bought my copy of WD from Audible the day it was posted. :-)

This isn't about the LUNA series but a question about your other series TQB and TPC. Do you know if there is any possibility those are going to be released in audio. I've not read hem yet (have both though) but the blurbs sound like they'd be good audios.

Inheritors' Cycle audio books

There aren't any plans I'm aware of to release TQB and TPC in audio format, but I'll pass the suggestion on to my editor and see if she knows anything I don't! :)

Inheritors' Cycle audio

Inheritors' Cycle audio books

Yes, please do mention it to them! I bought both in trade as soon as they came out but I would LOVE to have them in audio since I have all your LUNAs in audio. Different publishers I know, but I love having all of an author's books in teh same format when I can. :-)

Ordered

Have ordered Walking Dead but it has to make it's way to me from overseas.

 cheers

Today?

Maybe I will be lucky and find a copy of it today while I'm out shopping. I'm not sure if I will go to the Mall (only darn bookstore in the area is in the Mall, yuck). I have to grocery shop and run a few errands so who knows I might get lucky at one of my stops. Yes, I am one of those people who hate to shop!

I know this is not really

I know this is not really the  right place but Mellissa how long do folks in your family play the rock band games? My youngest daughter and grandson both have rock band games and I think they only played them for about 2 weeks  Wonder if Catie would like to work that into one of the books as something Joanne's cross dressing friends kids play

Halloween's around the corner.

I totally loved that Walking Dead opened with a Halloween party....gotta love Joanne's costume!  And Morrison.  Woot!

Now, if that doesn't make you want to RUSH to buy the book, I don't know what will. LOL.

Six, tease!!!!!!!! let's see 4 days until I can buy it. I can't wait.

Tiger, This is our first rock band/guitar hero game. However, we've been playing guitar hero world tour for months whenever we go to our friends house. My 5 year old loves playing the drums. Money was the main delaying factor, we've been saving up for it. My brother's favorite game is guitar hero and has been playing it for a few years now. Like me he now has rock band 'cause of the Beatles. We were raised on them, so it was natural.

I hate shopping, too, KS. :) Well, except for books...

WALKING DEAD--out now!

I could spend all day long

I could spend all day long in a bookstore no problem. It's all the other shopping I hate. I had no luck finding the book during my errands but I have to go to Walmart tomorrow so maybe I will get lucky there. I have to get ready for working the primary on Tuesday.

reading

The terrible thing, KS, is I'm so far behind in my reading I don't even enjoy shopping for books anymore. That's one of the things they don't tell you about becoming a professional writer--it really cuts into your reading time!

WALKING DEAD--out now!

(((hugs))) and Thank you

I'm so sorry you have no reading time but I have to say thank you at the same time. I do have time and finding good authors like you, is a wonderful treat!

I'm a forth of a way

I'm a forth of a way through but I have to agree with Six, that was one great Halloween party! I'm trying to read slowly so it lasts awhile.

I'm with ks, it's sad you don't have a lot of reading time, but yay for all of us who gobble your books up.

Arrived today!

Got my copy in the mail today - hooray for online bookstores who deliver to Australia.

Sorry Catie, you don't get time to read. It's a shame.

cheers

Gave up

I give up trying to find a copy in a store. I have ordered it here and will have to wait patiently for the mailman. I'm so not good at waiting and the mailman does get sick of me standing by the mailbox and pouting when he doesn't have anything but bills for me.

no time to read

It's really a bizarre side-effect of writing, for me. I find that I get so far into the book I'm writing that I basically can't commit to reading something else. Re-reads are a little easier than new-reads, but the terrible truth is, I spend a lot more time watching TV and movies than I used to. Generally what happens is I stand in front of the (extensive) To Be Read shelf and then sort of go "meep" and turn on the tv. Or go back to writing my own book, oi! :)

WALKING DEAD--out now!

 Finished over the

Finished over the weekend. Wow what a ride Catie!!! I can't wait for the next one.

Hmm, that must be what's been happening to me. I've been working on my fantasy wip all week and haven't touched a book at all. Now the Wii and the TV on the other hand.....

WALKING DEAD--out now!

no time to read

Catie, I so get being inundated by the TBR pile. Mt Everest anyone? But I've been finding I have been 'dipping' and reading a few books at a time when I write. Of course there are the favourite TV programs and DVDs....thank goodness because I miss half of them....and movies. I think it's getting out of reading words that can let the mind be free in another medium (ie visual, auditory).

 cheers

I finished the book today

What a great read for October - so appropriate for the month!  But the cover gods aka the art department don't seem to have been completely with you.  What's with the black horse on the cover???

And poor Thor/Edward!  My DH is a car fanatic, and its rubbed off on me.  The car analogies all make sense, and I love following Joanne's thought processes!

Can't wait for next year's release.  Will she and Morrison ever become an item?

Lynne

I just started the audiobook an hour or so ago,

(I know, I am so far behind on my reading AND my listening!)

Very much looking forward to this installment (I know, evidence points to me being ambivalent, but I have been swamped with things that keep me from listening b/c when I listen, I "become" the book, so I prefer to listen when I'm home alone doing chores -- the kids and dh tend to interrupt me when I'm home, even when I tell them that I'm "off duty").

I've got it

But now I am in the same position as penn. LOL My TBR pile grew considerably in the past couple of weeks and I'm already in the middle of three books. I know that when I start Walking Dead, I will want to read it beginning to end. I LOVE this series.

I'm done! This book rocked!

I hope Catie likes the way Gabra read the audio version -- I sure did and would hate to learn that Catie doesn't think that's how Joanne should sound.

And that is all. Can't wait for the next installment.

I finally started this one

I finally started this one this week. It's currently by "working out" book which means I have to work out or I'm not allowed to listen to it. (I do this a lot since it forces me to get my butt to the gym to find out what happens next.) LOL But I have a hunch this won't stay a "work out" book since that means it will take me entirely too long to listen to it, even being able to do an hour or more at a time during my workout. :-D

i'm still listening to this

i'm still listening to this one but I do have a question... Do we get to meet Joanne's child at some point? We've had references made to the child she gave up and I can't help buy wonder if he has shamanic powers or anythign also and if he'll play a role in a story in the future.

I finished this one last

I finished this one last night. Loved the story and the surprise about how exactly the cauldron worked. I liked seeing Billie play an even bigger role than usual too. I just love his character, and his wife.

oop!

I didn't realize WD was still being featured! I didn't mean to disappear!

Lynne--I did ask if the horse could be made white or gold, but honestly, with the cover's color scheme, that was never going to happen. Something lighter in shade would've pulled the focus to the wrong places. As for whether Jo and Morrison will become an item, well, I guess you'll have to keep reading to find out... :)

Penn--I haven't listened to any of the audio books. I'm told Gabra does an absolutely terrific job, and I'm delighted by that, but I find it genuinely bizarre to listen to other people reading my writing aloud, so I don't usually listen to it. :)

shewolf--just like Lynne, you'll have to keep reading to find out if we ever meet Joanne's son. :)

-Catie, who will check in more regularly, she promises!
