Livening things up!

Good afternoon, everyone! Thought I'd change things up a bit, refresh the room, and see what kind of action we can get going.

What's everyone reading/looking forward to reading?

I have Stephanie Bond's book, 6 Killer Bodies, on order. I've been a big fan of her stuff from day one, and just love this series. Did anyone catch her Q&A last month?

I was very tempted by Diane Chamberlain's book, Secrets She Left Behind. Has anyone read it? Read her? Thoughts?

I am almost done reading Cry

I am almost done reading Cry Mercy by Toni Andrews. It's the second book of hers I've read and I am just loving these characters.

Well I got Heart of Courage

Well I got Heart of Courage with my latest Steeple Hill order. I really liked it. I may have to check things out on here sometime.

Toni Andrews

Tracey, how do you like her books? I admit, I have not read them yet. I know, bad hosty... but seriously, have you seen ALL the books? I've heard great things about her writing, though I've been told she's a bit scary. Do find her books to be scary at all?

Jessiecue, is that Kat Martin's book? I think I have it here somewhere, LOL. I love her writing. She writes such charming characters, I can't help but like them.

This is my second book by

This is my second book by Toni Andrews. The two I've read are all in this Mercy Hollings series. And though they're in the first person and I don't normally like that, I have enjoyed both books. They aren't scary at all, maybe that's other books she's written? Of course, I love romantic suspense, so maybe my idea of scary is higher than yours. lol The last book i read did have some scenes of suspense but they were nothing like what I was used to. This seems to be a bit more mild paranormal novel.

I finished

Summer on Blossom Street and now I'm eagerly waiting for the next Rachel Vincent book. Now I'm working on books for the mini- challenge.

Yes Dream that is who its

Yes Dream that is who its by. I think I should have read the 1st 2 in the series first but I loved that one. I may have to look up some more of her work.

I'm listening to the first

I'm listening to the first Thriller Anthology at the moment. I listened to it a couple eyars ago, when it first came out but decided to try it again, especially with the second one out this month. I bought the Thriller 2 Anthology in audio today so I'll be listening to that one soon too.

I can't do audio... I have

I can't do audio... I have to read it to myself to comprehend it. It drives me crazy when I am trying to read something and I have someone standing over me reading aloud.

Jessiecue

Thanks!

That's great to know about the book. I think I'll have to check it out then. :)

I bet those would be great on audiobook! I still haven't found a way to listen to audiobooks. Via the computer is too distracting, and I'm still a holdout on buying an iPod. Maybe this summer on a road trip or something.

Deb, how'd you like Debbie's book? I just had dinner with some girlfriends who loved it.

Has it been unseasonably stormy where everyone else is? Here in Colorado, it's done nothing but storm the past month or so. This is just not our weather!

audio

I hope you get a chance to try them and like them Dream. I've more than doubled my reading time by being able to do audio. I listen in the car to and from work every day. Heck I rarely listen to the radio anymore. Even a five minute drive to the grocery store I have an audio book CD in. I have an MP3 player too though which helps. I also have a portable CD player though that hardly gets used anymore with the MP3 player. I listen inteh car, I listen at work (provided I'm doing my usual work stuff that I'm so familiar with i can do almost by rote and don't need to concentrate hard), I listen while cleaning, cooking, etc.

The weather here Dream is

The weather here Dream is pretty good. I mean during the day for the most part it has been sunny and rainging during the night. Which is great. Today however it rained during the day but that was an off and on thing. It really helps my father in law's garden, when it is consistently doing this. I am sorry to hear that it is storming there. I hate storms.

Jessiecue

Duh!

I didn't even think about the shorter trips. I don't think I could handle it on 5 minute trips, but I do have a place that's about 45 min each way to go every week. I could get some serious reading in. See, that's what I love about this place. :)

Body Movers!

I simply plowed through the Body Mover series by Stephanie Bond.  Those books were hard to put down.  There were nights that I was literally up until 3am because I "just had to read one more page"!

I certainly hope that there will be more in that series.

LOL Dream. It's amazing how

LOL Dream. It's amazing how 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there can add up. Definitely makes a difference for me in the long run.

What would drive me nuts...

Is having to stop during the good parts. I'd have a police officer banging on my window, saying, "uh, ma'am... you've been sitting here forever and people are getting nervous."

Follow Love Inspired books on Twitter! http://twitter.com/LoveInspiredBks

I'm with Kelley

and get so much more reading in by listening in the car or my ipod when doing boring chores or even waiting in line at the grocery store or drive thru. I loved Summer on Blossom Street but then I've loved all the others. I'm eagerly awaiting the next Cedar Cove book too. Got to keep up with all the characters in these tight knit towns. I read the Navy series years ago and she lured me into her down home feel good books.

LOL Dream

uh, ma'am... you've been sitting here forever and people are getting nervous."

I've actually been known to do that from time to time. Not the having a cop knock on my window thinking I was up to no good but the other part. LOL I'll be right in the middle of a crucial scene and can't bear to quit till that part is over. So I've sat and listened through that part before getting out of my car. It's REALLY bad when I'm on the way to work and that happens. But lately when it gets to that point. I just truck my CDs into the office and pop them in the CD player on my desk. I'm so glad my boss is OK with that. I look at it as no different than listening to music while working but some picky bosses could be upset about it. Mine is so laid back his desk chair should be a chaise lounge though, so he doesn't care WHAT we do as long as the work is getting done and to his standards.

I love it!

I'm definitely glad I don't have a job to be on time to these days. So glad your boss is nice about it. :) Maybe I will try an audio in the car for errands and not just for long trips. Now to find one I can listen to with the kids in the car!

I just had

to pop in and tell everyone that I stayed up all night reading and finishing PREY. I was at Walmart and there it was so of course I snatched it up. What a great series and if you have read the others you've gotta read this one soon! I need someone to discuss it with since there was so much in this book and you'll experience every emotion imaginable and then some. If you haven't read them yet then get busy, they're great! I thought I'd better add they're MIRA books and the first one is STRAY and they're written by Rachel Vincent.

The audiobook thing...

Well, I tried it during commute. Couldn't handle it. So I went on a road trip over the weekend and very much enjoyed an audiobook. I also found that listening to an audiobook while cleaning made it pass by so much more quickly. Definitely a big like in my book!

I'm glad you gave it a try

I'm glad you gave it a try Dream! I love my audios for when I'm doing routine cleaning or whatever becasue it does make the work go by faster. And you've already heard me go on and on about how much I love it for road trips. :-)

refound this thread

Hi everyone--

I just refound (is that a word?) this thread and I'm glad it is active again.

Dream--I wanted to answer your questions about Diane Chamberlain. I read and love her books. I have not read SSLB but just ordered it. This is a sequel to last year's Before the Storm which I have but have not read yet either. I have read her Kiss River trilogy which I would strongly recommend. The books are Keeper of the Light, Kiss River, and In Her Mother's Shadow. I have also read The Bay at Midnight and The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes--also excellent books. They are reissuing some of her earlier books. Enjoy reading any of her books--they are hard to put down.

So cool!

Thanks for the tip, Penn! I know lots of folks in here are Rachel Vincent fans. I tend to cross genres with authors I like.

Anyone else do that?

Plus, I have to admit that lately, I've really enjoyed some of the YA books I've read. I did a friend a favor by judging some YA books for a contest and they were fabulous. One of them was by far the best book I'd read that entire year. For me, it's all about a good story. So I'm hoping to see some of those in the new YA line. Of course, with our editorial team, that's a given. :)

Thanks

Penn I'll be looking it up! I was looking forward to reading the book after seeing the title at the end of Prey.

I should've posted this sooner but since I just last nght got caught up on this week's reads, I didn't think to do this before now.

For those fellow MIRA lovers - Michelle Gagnon's Boneyard is the read this week in the Thriller Book Club at Dear Reader. I've had the book since it came out but have not read it yet and after reading Day 3's snippet just now, I know I'm gonna love the rest of the book!

I've belonged to a few of these book clubs for a few years now and I love it because every day for a week, you get a 5-minute read of the book sent to your e-mail. Usually about 20 pages in by the end of the week and by then I know if I want to read on or not. :-) Each week is a new book. Though the Thriller Book Cub, which Boneyard is featured in, is only every other week. They're great too because the book clubs are affiliated with libraries all around the country and if the book is featured, they have it at the library for you to check it out.

You have to join the book clubs to get access to the reads, but it's free and it's always just a 5-minute read a day per book club, so you know you're not going to get lost in time when you start. :-) I usually start off my work day with the reads, to get me excited about the rest of the day. So let's support our Harlequin authors. There is also a forum for each book, where youcan go in and post comments as you read the e-mails. Lots of times, the authors even join in.

Last Stand

Is anyone else reading Brenda Novak's Last Stand series? Those books are soo good! I love all the twists and turns Brenda puts into them. Especially in terms of creating some really twisted characters. They fascinate me.

LAst Stand Series

I love Brenda Novak and I have all the books so far int eh series. But I havne't read them yet. I started the first one a couple times but either wasn't in the right frame of mind for the book then so decided to wait till it more suited my mood or something else came up (like a library audio usually) that due to time constraints had to be done first. But I really am looking forward to them.

They're great!

I haven't read this month's release yet, as it just came, and you know what it's like when you have a whole box of books staring at you saying, "pick me!" But last month's, The Perfect Couple, was incredible. I couldn't put it down. We were up in the mountains at my BIL's bike race. We crew for him, but there are often long stretches of time with nothing to do, so I had the book to read. Well, I'm reading and I hear my 8yo in the background calling my name, and I tell her, "I just need to finish this chapter," without looking up. Fortunately, hubby was there and saw what was going on, because the poor thing was throwing up in the bushes. Embarassed I was mortified, but once I realized she was okay and her daddy had her, I went back to the book.  Cool

What can I say? Once you get me into a book, you can't drag me out.

CHRISTMAS DIAMONDS by Devon Vaughn Archer

Hello, all:

As a big fan of MIRA fiction and one of the few males writing romance for Harlequin, I'd like to let you know about my November release under the Kimani imprint, CHRISTMAS DIAMONDS.

I know that most women love diamonds, which happens to be what my novel revolves around. When you combine diamonds, the joy of Christmastime, and two people in search of love, you have all the ingredients for the perfect romance in CHRISTMAS DIAMONDS.

Read the excerpts in eHarlequin and see for yourself.

And feel free to hop over to my Harlequin blog to offer comments.

Happy holidays.

Mira my shiny shiny love

Hey All:

Kinda new to the eHarlequin community.  I've posted a few thoughts on the current read sites.  The folks here are incredible.  I noticed this thread and thought it would be a great place.

My first Harlequin book club was Mira.  I loved it.  They don't have it anymore though.  They changed it to the romance collection.  It's great that we can still order them however.  My favourite Mira author is Debbie Macomber.  There are a lot of ways to write a book and sometimes what I really want is to watch decent folks go through parts of their life and get a good deal.  Debbie does this.

I never get swept up in the wind of the telling, that's not why I read her.  I read her because I think she is a good story teller, and when I need a good story she is there.  That's one of the things I like about this place.  There is not just one genre.  No one I have ever met is only one thing.  Everyone is a complex bundle of thoughts, needs and emotions.  Sometimes we need steak, sometimes we need salad, and sometime we NEED dessert.  I think or minds are the same way.  It's great to have such a buffet of literature (why am I getting hungry?).  So, I read Ms. Macomber when I need a good story.  If I want to have an affair of the heart I read Judy Baer, and when I need to be surrounded by family I read Susan Wiggs.  Of course I am finding so many other authors here that the list is growing daily.  I now belong to four Harlequin book clubs.  I'm getting e-mails from my wallet now.

There was one thing which happend recently which I would like to share as well:  speaking of Debbie Macomber.  I read one of the Blossom Street novels and she said that knitting was a woman's craft.  I went to her web site and wrote here an e-mail   I said that in my readings on the history of knitting, I had found that sailors have been knitting for a long time and for years it was a cottage craft in which both sexes participated. I sent it just as an FYI  sort of thing.

Well, she sent me an e-mail in reply.  She said she talked to her editor and that I was right and she wouldn't make that mistake again.  She thanked me for bringing it to her attention.  Now that was class.  She didn't have to, but she took my point and was graceous enough to send a reply acknowledging it.  I was impressed.

Thanks for starting this Dream

... And if I should die before I wake, please lord, throw my journal in the lake...

Similar experience

Randus, Debbie spoke at a conference I went to recently, and I found her just as sweet and kind as you describe. She's definitely an inspiring lady.
