There's definitely lots of room to have fun in here.
Not sure about getting to travel to ALL of my favorite places, but I'll hopefully be doing some of it this year.

I guess
It's just going to take me a bit to get used to everything. It's certainly different. Mostly good different, now that I've had time to play around a bit. Yesterday I was certain I'd hate it. Today, I'm almost sure I'll love it once I get used to it.

Jana, I know how you feel
I keep hearing the same comment and it's funny, because I felt the same way. Once I was on it for a while testing for a while, I kind of got annoyed being on the old boards because I was used to these. LOL. You just can't make me happy. Actually, I am.
I'm having a lot of fun over here. But like you guys, this is new to me, so we'll just all figure it out together. And if there's anything we can do to improve the experience, just let me know and we will see what we can do.

By George, I think I've got it!
I looked around for a good 10 minutes before I found you guys. But I'm here at last. I like it fine! It just took a little bit of looking around first. I'll search around a bit later to familiarize myself with the new look. Looks like there's lots of different stuff here. Kinda cool.
I had a good Christmas/New Years. I hope you all did, too. We had a few really nice days and now it's getting cold again in Illinois. It's weird to see green grass outside in January. Probably get more snow tonight.

Jen~Glad you found us, hon! And glad you had a good holiday season. I did, too for the most part. Wouldn't be me if I didn't have SOME drama! LOL
Dream~There are just a few clunky things I don't like about it that makes navigation difficult at times. Like it doesn't go directly to new posts if you enter a board that has a ton of posts. you have to wade through to see what's new. And when you post it takes you all the way back to the front. And the whole scrolling back to the top to add a comment. I liked it when we had the empty box at the bottom. And I don't get why we have to have subject lines. Sometimes it comes in handy but other times, not so much. But really, for the most part...on a whole, I like it.

trying to figure out about this particular thread
is this a general conversation thread or is this a "let's talk about RDI books" thread? I don't especially care for the RDIs (I read several when the line first started and dcided it wasn't for me) but I'm anotehr fellow ringless female and always looking for folks to talk to in the same stage of life. SO I guess whether or not I come to this thread a lot depends on what is talked about.
I just happened across it by accident today so figured I'd ask.

Hi Kelley!
We're just a general discussion group of single gals. I think I'm about the only one (besides maybe Dream?) who reads RDI's but I rarely discuss them. ;)
Jana's Off-site blog
This is a general let's talk thread. :)
It's under RDI, because well, once upon a time, RDI had its own boards. And this was one of the discussions they had there. When we combined boards a long time ago, we kept it under RDI and here it remains. Ahh... the history of the boards. Makes me feel old. LOL
Anyway, welcome, and join in... we love to chat.

Let me just say...well, if you love brooding heroes who clearly love the heroine, then you'd LOVE N&S. The movie is full of a lot of nuances. Nothing is fully declared for part of the movie, but if you pay attention, you'll notice a lot hawt stuff.

I'm not so great right now. My granddad had a biopsy today on the mass they'd found on his brain. He made it through that fine but it's malignant. He's in stage 4. I was stunned to hear the news about Heath Ledger! I've been a fan of his ever since the VErY short lived television show Roar that he starred in when he was like 19 or so. He had come so far since then. And he had the talent to be an amazing actor. I was so sad to hear he died.
Oh and I had planned to come in here and tell a rather amusing story (I thought so anyhow) about something that happened at work today with me and a couple of the guys there. But I came in and saw Jana's news and the Heath Ledger talk and decided I'll wait till tomorrow to post my story. I'm assuming this is a place where we can tell some of our single life adventures. Funny stories? I don't
Funny stories? I don't really have one, unless you count the dream I had the other night. I wrote about it on my blog, but will tell you here.
I'd just finished watching the series finale of The Vicar of Dibley (hysterical British sitcom) right before going to bed, so my thoughts were on England. The man who played her love interest in the show is pretty tall (he's also the pic on here). He had to keep leaning over to avoid smacking his head.
So, I dreamt that I'd finally gotten to London and was on my first foray to an English pub. In my dream I was smokin' (ie, slender, well-dressed and overly confident). As I walked into the pub, I forgot to duck and knocked myself unconscious. LOL! I'm so uncoordinated, even in my dreams.

so I promised you a story...
but it's really LONG since I don't know how to be short and succinct when telling a story. It'll probably take up the whole page. So feel free to skip it entirely, or just skim it, or if you like long stories, go ahead and read! LOL
It's not super funny but kind of amusing. For those of you who don't know already, my job at work is to basically do environmental compliance inspections at Reserve Centers throughout north central TX. One of these facilities is close by in the city. It's a big facility but far from at capacity since the facility is closing soon.
Well I was at the center Wednesday doing an inspection and I brought with me our newest employee in my division, who got hired in December and works out of central TX. Well at this reserve center, the one guy there has had a bit of a thing for me since I first met him in summer 2006. I met him just a couple weeks after their unit relocated here from their old location. A couple months after that, he requested a site visit so I could tell him what he needed to do to get his environmental program up and running. Well we set up the appointment and I showed up like I was supposed to. Well he FORGOT I was coming so when I got there he wasn't around. The facility manager was not there that day but I found person I knew who knew I was coming and he called the other one to find out where he was. Needless to say, I had to wait a half hour or so for him, V, so I hung out in the office of the other one, T, while I waited. We chatted a bit but he was busy so mostly I just sat and waited, bored out of my mind since I didn't even have a book with me. Well I guess from that time I hung out in T's office waiting for V, T decided he had a bit of a thing for me as well. So from then on I guess there has been some minor competition as to who would win my attention.
V started calling me shortly thereafter, we got together one time, but it was pretty obvious from the get go, he was looking for a kind of relationship I was not interested in... and he's married and was getting divorced, but it wasn't final yet. And I don't go there. The guy has to be actually divorced before I'll date him. And he's the one who told me T was interested in me too, since apparently they'd had several conversations about me since I was there that time. Plus there were a few other things about V that I wasn't really keen on. So I kept putting him off until we had a bit of a row where I chewed him out for some of his behavior. After that I didn't hear from him again for several months (this was in July/August I got ticked and told him off).
That's the back story. Fast forward to Wednesday this week and my inspection. Well V is the primary environmental guy so he's the one I have to work with most. T, I'm not sure what exactly he does but I guess he's the next highest full timer there so when the facility manager is busy or unavailable, T, takes care of things and coordinates with me. Yesterday the mgr was super busy (he usually is poor guy. They run him ragged since he's short staffed.) So he told me T would be the one doing the walk around with me etc (I'm a contractor and while most facilities are OK with me wandering around on my own since they know me pretty well, protocol says I shouldn't be left alone so the sticklers for regulations make sure I always have an escort. But V had to be with me for the visit also since he's environmental guy.
So picture this, me with new guy in tow, showing him the ropes and taking far longer than usual for a site visit so we could discuss any questions he had about why I do one thing or another. Two guys who both have an interest in me walking around with us also. Had I not known about the interest of both (though I'm not sure T realizes I'm aware of it because V told me) I would have missed all the underlying stuff happening. But basically here's two guys, competing the entire time I'm there, trying to steal my attention away from the other one. They are tossing jokes and zingers back and forth at each other over the whole thing, subtly disguised though I picked up on it knowing the real situation. I pretended to be oblivious but poor new guy had no idea what was going on with the undercurrent there.
Then a silly situation really, we're upstairs where they have tons of vacated furniture that's just going to be thrown out and I jokingly (well only halfway anyhow) said if they were junking it all, I wanted a new desk chair for home since mine is ratty and cheap. I need to buy a new one but if I can get a nice one for free there, I'm all for it. So T tells me he'll have V bring one to me next time he comes out to the center where I work. I didn't think he would since it's not exactly approved procedure to just give away equipment. It all has to be logged, turned in properly, etc etc. We move on from there and continue the visit.
As I'm leaving at the end of my visit, T comes up to me with two business cards, one for me and one for a coworker of mine he used to work with a lot when they were at their old location. As he hands them to me, he tells me the one with his cell phone number on it is for me. So me being the typical idiot I am, even knowing he has a thing for me but not really registering it I guess flip the cards over, to make sure I keep the right one, figuring he wanted me to have the cell phone number for him n case I needed to contact him for work stuff. Well he was joking and there's no cell phone number, but he wanted to see what I'd do I guess. Then he told me he could give it to me if I wanted. Still not registering the fact he was probably putting out the feelers to see how receptive I am to him.
We get back to the office, I tell my coworker what was going on, since she's heard about the guys there and their competition over me. We both got a chuckle out of it and then new guy pipes in "so that's what that was all about! I wondered what was going on there."
Then the amusement is put aside and it's back to work. Well, wouldn't you know about an hour after I got to work this AM, there's a knock on our door and there's V with my new/old desk chair. T really DID send him to bring me one. I got quite a laugh out of it, but was touched too, as insignificant a thing as it was, that he actually remembered a comment I made sort of joking that I needed a new chair but was trying to hold off buying one till I absolutely had to. So the little battle for my affection carried over into today.
And wouldn't you know it, I get a phone call tonight from V, who hasn't called me since last fall when I chewed him out, suddenly wanting to hang out again. So I guess my visit and the whole chair thing kicked off the competition again. Funny thing is, if I were to actually date one of them, T is who I'd prefer even though I barely know him, since I'd like to get to know him better and he's very quiet most of the time and subdued but very nice and he strikes me as one of those deeper individuals once you get to know him. Plus there are my issues with V that as far as I know still haven't been resolved.
And I should be professional about it all since I work with them both, but what can I say? It's such a rarity to actually have two guys fighting over me that I want it to continue a bit and give me more time to enjoy it. LOL

Hey all. I know I've been away for a while. I've been finalizing work on the school's budget. Now that I'm pretty much done with that I'll be better about being around. :) Nice to know that I was missed, though! :) You gals are great!
Kelley! Nice to have you! I love your story. Very fun. How great is that to have two guys vying for your attention. I think you're right, though. If you start something with someone you have some problems with you could potentially get feelings for him and eventually try to see past it and get hurt in the end. Sometimes it's best to just go with your gut feeling there. There's always a potential with T, though! :) But it's just fun to have the competition. Go girl! hehe

Snow Again
We've got snow coming again today and this weekend. Looks to be a real white weekend. Which can be okay, if you've got a fireplace and aren't going anywhere. Actually, I have all weekend with my fireman this weekend we're totally kidless, last weekend we both had our kids. His schedule is normally odd cause he works every third day, 24 hour shifts, but he tore his rotater cuff on his shoulder and is on modified duty at the central house until he gets through physical therapy, thankfully no surgery at this time. So, we're going on a small road trip Saturday and spending the weekend together. Hopefully some fireplace time maybe with a movie at some point. :)
Did I tell you guys that he watched dd for me while I had a board meeting at work? I was a little nervous about asking him to do something like that. I know we've been together for nearly two years now, but I always worry about asking favors especially asking friends to watch my daughter, but he's offered so I don't have to get a sitter. Well, it went well and they had a blast. I think he was pretty excited about it, cause they never have one on one time together. I have a few times with his boys, but they're a bit older and they're fun and really good. It's still working, who'd a thunk? :)

Got Books?
Missed it
I can't believe I missed the Grammy's. And I love to watch them. Oh, man.
I'm starting to get a little tired of all the cold. I don't mind cold weather, but it's been bitter cold for weeks now. I wish it'd ease up a bit at least. High 20's, lower 30's even, but it's been in 5-10 lately as highs. I ordered some flowers to be delivered to my fireman at work. He's down at Fire Central downtown, the main house with all the 'uniforms', since he's still on modified duty with his injury. So, I'm sending the flowers there on Valentine's Day. Those firemen razz each other so much, he'll get some guff over it, but I'll bet he'll think it's sweet that I did it. I wanted to pick something out that's more stick-like than frilly. So, I went to the florist yesterday, and picked out a pretty vase of purple and white orchids, in a pretty squarish vase. I think he'll like it. I doubt he's ever gotten flowers before.
Then I went to the mall to look at these red heels I had been looking at (I've never had red shoes!) and I saw his truck in the lot. So, we went and looked at them (and got them). I had taken a ring in that had lost a stone to see how much it would cost to fix it. My sister bought it for me for Graduation, so it's sentimental. Anyway, I hadn't heard from them, cause he had gone in and changed my number to his. He was there paying for it to get fixed for me for Valentine's Day. That's awfully sweet of him.
Anyone have any good Valentine's Day plans? Anyone doing anything for yourself? I always buy myself some chocolate.

I bought myself some chocolates and a DVD to watch. Fully intend to stop somewhere on the way home and buy something yummy to eat for supper. I almost decided to cook something good for myself but when you're treating yourself, who wants to cook?? lol
I forgot all about the grammys but I stopped watching them years ago. Stopped watching all awards shows, actually. Nobody I liked ever won so why bother? lol

Jen, how very sweet! And yes, I bet he'll totally get razzed.
Jana, I love your idea. Do something nice for yourself.
HockeyJock, LOL!! What woman wouldn't dream of a romantic guy like you?
My husband borrowed one of my romances to see what the fuss was about and his coworkers teased him about reading it. He said, "well, what better way to find out what women want than to read the books about the guys they fantasize about."
Our VDay plans, sadly, are nil. I work VDay night. I think my boss is planning on having us ladies sneak out and have drinks across the street. Let's hope we're not busy. But seriously, who wants to spend VDay getting their taxes done!

Eh...
Personally I loathe Valentine's. It's probably because I've always been single, but whatever. It's a waste of time & money.
Wow, a single guy. Hmmm....LOL!
Jana-You poor thing. I read your blog & commented. That really stinks. Too bad he wasn't your type, huh?
Well, I'm off! Tired, grumpy & stuff. Didn't get to bed until 4. I know, I'm nuts. LOL!
When we are together I stay awake all night
When I'm on my own I cannot sleep
Blessed be God for these two insomnias
And the difference between them.

I'm not much for Valentines
I'm not much for Valentines day either. Even thse years i was actually dating someone it wasn't anything I got all excited about.. Because then lots of times, it's just becasue they feel obligated to do something for the holiday if you're dating. I'd rather they do it on a regular day of te year. And besides, when trying to lose weight, the LAST thing i need is a huge box of chocolate!
My exciting Valentines day plans this year... home for dinner and either read a book or watch TV. Then head out to Starbucks to meet up with a friend like I do every single week I'm not on the road. We'll probably be the only two single folks in the whole place. LOL
