Daily Online Read: Lightning Strikes by Tracy Wolff
Willow’s convinced that she will know the love of her life the moment she sees him. So it can’t possible be her best friend James—she’s seen him every day for the last seven years. So why is she suddenly feeling irresistibly attracted to him? And since when is he returning the feeling? Is this the Stroke of Lightning she’s been waiting for?
About the Author
Tracy Wolff collects books, English degrees and lipsticks and has been known to forget where—and sometimes who—she is when immersed in a great novel. At six she wrote her first short story—something with a rainbow and a prince—and at seven she forayed into the wonderful world of girl’s lit when she read her first Judy Blume novel. By ten she’d read everything in the young adult and classics sections of her local bookstore, so in desperation her mom started her on romance novels. From the first page of the first book, Tracy knew she’d found her life-long love. Now an English professor at her local community college, she writes romances that run the gamut from paranormals to eroticas. Her first erotic story, No Apologies, will be a February 2008 SPICE Brief release and her first novel, The Turn for Home, will be a November 2008 Superromance release. Check out her Web site and her blogs.

Great start... really
Great start... really piqued my interest with the mention of the parental marital problems. Then add the friend (that after 7 years suddenly becomes attractive to her) from the rival farm and boy does this story have potential for all kinds of tension!
Gonna go check out your website Tracy!
Maybe the friend has been
Maybe the friend has been sabotaging her horses?

I doubt it!
I think these two will have a HEA, which wouldn't be likely if he was sabotaging their horses. Sounds like a good story!
Without a doubt
James is the H in this tale! I think Ms. Willow will be surprised in how much of a friend and more that he wants to be!
Hugs,
April
At the end of the day, it's night.
I always love a good story
I always love a good story revolving around horse racing. I think the "friend" will wind up being the H, but the challenge to the relationship may be that it appears that he is sabotaging her horses.

Lightning Strikes!
Thanks for reading the story, guys. Willow and James came to me as a couple while I was writing A Christmas Wedding-- my very first novel-- and I'm thrilled that I got a chance to tell their story as well. I hope you like it.

Great start!
I'm looking forward to reading this over the next month. I love best-friends-fall-in-love stories... and what the other commenters said is so true, the hints about her parents' difficulties really caught me. I'm eager to learn more (and read their book in November).
Poor James!
I have a feeling we're going to watch him be slowly tortured during the next 3 1/2 weeks.... I hope he stays strong!
Hugs,
April

I feel for him and this is only the 2nd chapter, we know he's going to be tortured through a bunch more!
Ditto the above comments.

Even though...
I'm going to be feeling bad for poor James, I can just tell that I'm going to be loving this story. I'm a total sucker for stories about guys who've always been there, being a friend and quietly loving the h the whole time.

BTW,
I'm hoping for a good outcome for Willow's parents, too. Don't know what happened between them, but I hope it's repairable. I hate to see people who were very much in love have insurmountable problems!

Tracy, now i have a dilemna! Do I buy your November release as an ebook or wait until this story is done
I like reading things in order!
Just read the first 3 chapters
Willow needs to wake up and smell the roses and notice what she has never noticed before -- James!
Tracy, I also love books where friendships turn into love.
Wonder what is going on with her parents...
Well now, I think that
Well now, I think that lightning bolt has struck her, she just doesn't know it yet! I'm sure there's going to be lots of ups and downs with them trying to figure out whether they want to chance ruining a good friendship!
It's kinda cool to see inside both character's heads and know that they can't see into each other, although after 7 years of friendship you think they might get a clue...
I find it interesting that James is from a rival farm yet her family seems to get along just fine with him!
I like that
we get both of their POV's, too.
I don't imagine it's much different than other sports owners/athletes who have friends with/on other teams. Leave the 'job' on the field, or in this case, the track, and when the winner's been decided, move on and have a good time with friends. Just my thoughts....
Hugs,
April

This story is a bit slow...
But it's that wonderful kind of slow that allows me to relax and just enjoy it as it unfolds... kind of like a warm fire and hot chocolate in the winter. Or am I just strange?
Nope Northwind, you are not
Nope Northwind, you are not strange. It's a nice kind of slow.,.
I, on the other hand...
...am on pins and needles already for James, and I have a bad feeling that I'm going to be on pins and needles for the better part of the story. Mind you, I'm loving the story, but it's killing me already waiting for them to get together, which is so not good if I have days and days and days left to go!

Sorry, JV-- I know those pins and needles are uncomfortable.
Papaya, if you get ACW too soon, you'll ruin the surprise of this ending
Although I guess the title does that already . . .
As for the rivalry between ranches-- there's a few scenes in ACW that show that all is not as nice as it seems on the surface.
Thanks again for reading
I'm so glad you guys are liking the story-- I fell in love with Willow as I wrote ACW and was thrilled when eharlequin gave me the chance to tell her story.

I feel like I'm on pins and needles, too
I think that Willow is starting to open her eyes to James now. I'm sure that there will be all kinds of misunderstandings between them before there is a HEA. Right now I'm on pins and needles waiting to see what will happen next.
Hey Tracy, I guess i will
Hey Tracy, I guess i will wait to get their story then! I am very impatient, but I am one of those people that absolutely refuse to read the end of teh story first! It has to go in order unless teh book is so boring that I read the end to find out what happened and don't read any of the rest of it! I don't think there's a chance in the universe that i would do it with one of your books though as I'm really liking this story and your writing style!
papaya,
I hate to admit this, but when I am buying books in a store where I can actually put hands on them, I tend to go right to the middle and search until I find the really good parts, if you know what I mean.
If those parts please me, then I get the book and read it from start to finish.
Even in books that I can't lay hands on before I buy them, I rarely stop until I'm finished with it, even if it turns out not to be my very favorite, unless it's pretty bad. I have to be totally bored with it or totally turned off by it to stop reading it before it's finished. Sometimes, if it's looking pretty grim, I'll fast forward to see whether or not the ending suits me before I decide whether or not to finish.

Hmmm sounds like some major problems with her parents when one partner is worrying about the horse and the other about not winning! Seems there's some fundamental differences there.

C'mon, James. Just give her a little push.
I also agree that Willow's parents seem to have some serious issues going on here. I wonder what caused them?

Mom and Dad are in pretty
Mom and Dad are in pretty big trouble. That's what ACW is all about-- them trying to work through their problems.
As for Willow, she drove me nuts as I wrote this. "Should I, shouldn't I? Should I, shouldn't I?" Go for it already-- right?

Willow, unwind and fall off the edge
Willow now realizes that she is attracted to her best friend, and is confused. It's great that James loves her so much that he would even hold her when she is having problems with another boyfriend and not announce to her that he is the one she really needs.
C'mon James, push her over the edge. Willow, if I was you, I'd probably just talk to James, and let him know what you are feeling.
It does sound like her parents have a very troubled marriage. They both are out of sync with each other.
Tracy,
Never having been good at the whole delayed gratification thing, I bought A Christmas Wedding as an ebook; however, I won't discuss it here so as not to give anyone any unwanted information about the current story.
I will say congrats, though! It was very well-written, and I went through the emotional wringer! Oh, yeah, and since I'm in Louisville, the tie-in on the side to my hometown was a pleasant surprise. If you do any more thoroughbred stories, you'll have to come here for the Kentucky Derby as part of your research!
papaya, if you really like to read things in order, you definitely want to hold off on ACW until you've finished this story.

JV-- thanks so much! I'm so
JV-- thanks so much! I'm so very glad you enjoyed ACW. As my first book, it holds a very special place in my heart. And I had so much fun researching the Derby-- and the whole Triple Crown-- while I was writing it. In fact, it was originally titled, The Turn for Home, and broken into the four main parts of a horse race. If you check out the recipe section of my website, you'll see a bunch of recipes from the Derby and the other races.
And for the rest of you wonderful ladies-- give her a couple more chapters. Willow may be slow, but she knows a good thing when she sees one ;)

Tracy,
If you haven't actually eaten a Hot Brown, you're missing something. I like to add tomato slices to the top of mine. Yum! If you're ever in town, you should check out the Brown Hotel, by the way. It's a lovely, historic old hotel and is the site where they filmed a lot of the movie "Elizabethtown" (with Orlando Bloom, Susan Sarandon, and Kirsten Dunst) and where my DD got both an autograph and a hug from her heartthrob (Orlando Bloom) AFTER her mother waited with her for 5 1/2 hours so that she could see him.

JV-- the things we do for
JV-- the things we do for our children! Don't even ask about what I went through trying to get my oldest son a Wii. His birthday is at the beginning of February and this year they were still sold out everywhere from the Christmas rush. I finally got one, but it took two weeks of calling every store in the area-- every day, an entire tank of gas, a full day of running around like a crazy woman and much pleading . . .
So I think I too should be nominated for mother of the year
I'm dying to come to Louisville and check out all those amazing places-- I had so much fun researching while I wrote ACW. Do you know that in 2006, Churchill Downs served custom-made mint juleps at the cost of $1000 each for the Derby? They were served in gold-plated cups with silver straws and were made from Woodford Reserve bourbon, mint imported from Ireland, Ice from the Bavarian Alps and sugar from Australia. The proceeds were used to support charitable causes dedicated to retired race horse.
And for anyone who lives in Baltimore or NY, I've got trivia about the Preakness and Belmont Stakes as well . . . yes, I'm a nerd and proud of it. So just ask, and I'll trot that info out as well

OK, I wonder
if it's a typo at the bottom of chapter 5 that says chapter 6 won't be available until Tuesday, or if it's part of a glitch, keeping chapter 6 from showing? I know it's not 'officially' time for the chapter to be up yet, but with Tuesday being listed at the bottom of 5, it does make me wonder....
Happy Monday, all! (Is that even possible? LOL!)
Hugs,
April

Deja vu
April, it's time for the chapter to be up now, and it still isn't! I clicked on Chapter 5 this morning and was depressed to realize that it was Friday's chapter.
I, too, wonder why it says that we have to wait until tomorrow for the daily read. No fair!
I think someone just got dates messed up when they coded it or something.

Well, I'm getting teh same thing too! and it's 5:30 pm EST! Maybe they will give us 6 and 7 on Tuesday! I wonder if it's a victim of their new look that is suppose to be happening... Who monitors the supers anyway?
