Daily Online Read: Voyage of an Irish Warrior by Michelle Willingham

Quin MacEgan has been Brenna O'Neill's closest friend and protector for three years.  He means everything to her, but the feelings of desire he has awakened in her are terrifying.  Afraid to become a woman she didn't want to be -- a woman like her mother -- Brenna pushed Quin away and agreed to marry another.

But when Brenna's betrothed is not among the survivors of an ill-fated trade voyage, Quin is more determined than ever to make her his wife!  Even if it means putting aside his own passions and agreeing never to touch her...

About the Author

Michelle Willingham wrote her first historical romance at the age of twelve and was delighted to fill up eight pages of a legal pad. As her binders of stories grew, she was convinced that one day she would achieve her dream of being an author. Thankfully, most of her early stories have been destroyed and are unavailable for blackmail.

She attended the University of Notre Dame where she thought about studying medicine. Since Michelle passes out at the sight of blood, she decided that this was not a good career move. She studied English instead and graduated summa cum laude with the idea of becoming an editor. Her first part-time job involved editing mortgage handbooks, which sent her fleeing back to graduate school for a degree in middle-school education. Michelle taught school for eleven years before retiring to stay home with her children and write full-time.

This first chapter

totally rocks!!!!  I, too, can't wait to see what Quin does to change Brenna's mind!

Wonderful start, Michelle!

Hugs,
April

Loving the story so far, Michelle!

I'm already hooked, wanting to know why she chose Aimon over Quin and how he will change her mind.  And I'm sure he will convince her, especially now that Aimon is gone.  I know I'm having palpitations over him already, and I know precious little about him, other than that he apparently has a single-minded desire for Brenna, which always gets to me.

I'm intrigued over her feelings of guilt and wonder why, if she was harboring some feelings for Quin, she denied him initially.  Can't wait to read more of this story!  I'm so glad it's a daily!

Just read the blurb above

That gave me a bit more insight into it, and it made me that much more anxious to read the rest.  I foresee a lot of tension between these two that will leave all of us squirming until they finally get together!

Hi, Michelle

Intro draws a person right into the thoughts of the lonely Brenna.  Loving Quin before I ever finished the first chapter.  He would've been my first choice.

Can't wait til tomorrow.  Sometimes, the bad boy wins.  It's all good. LOl Smile

I LOVE IT!

What a great start to the story! Can't wait to see what happens next!

Love it so far

And I don't usually read historicals.  Great intro and first chapter, Michelle.  Can hardly wait for tomorrow.  Quin sounds like my kind of man!

PS...Edit added...I'm not crazy.  Embarassed  When I posted the first message, it didn't show up so I redid it.  The first chapter was worth the second 'Hoorah!' anyway.  LOL

Ooooh ooh ooh...this sounds

Ooooh ooh ooh...this sounds like my type of read! Can't wait for more!

Great start, Michelle!

I'm with the others on this one.  Wondering how Quinn will convince Brenna, why is Brenna feeling guilty, and why does she feel she made the wrong choice in choosing her man.  You will have us panting for more during the month.  Too bad it's not a full length book so we can read it all at once.

Just wondering ...

where does Quin fit in in the MacEgan clan?    This story is set in 1180 the same year as Ewan's story and I don't remember a Quin  .. is he a long lost cousin?  ... inquiring minds want to know!

Quin is Patrick MacEgan's

Quin is Patrick MacEgan's first cousin. His father was a brother to Duncan MacEgan (Patrick's father).  His mother was an O'Neill.  Oh, and there's no direct kinship to Brenna, despite his maternal ties, don't worry! Laughing

And yes, you will see some MacEgan cameos in there....I couldn't resist!

What you don't find on beaches.

Duty as a widow versus lusty human desire, second guesses, widow-walking, relief, guilt, and a passionate warrior who wants you:  AND this is only chapter one?  It's enough to make you write sentence fragments.  I'm afraid the word boring isn't going to be coming up any time soon.

... And if I should die before I wake, please lord, throw my journal in the lake...

I'm with Carol, too

I'm with Carol, too impatient to wait.  Great first chapter!!

Thanks for letting us know about this, Michelle

I've never been a historical reader, so this is a great way to get my feet wet.  I'm certainly intrigued so far.

KatherineT--incidentally, I

KatherineT--incidentally, I just realized that there was a typo in the story's year.  It should be 1181, not 1180.  My apologies!  It takes place, the spring after Taming Her Irish Warrior.  I didn't realize that I somehow missed that, but I wanted to clarify as the remaining events take place.  Maybe I can have them fix that.  If not, my fault!

Michelle ....

no worries on the year .... I'm so tickled that the we are going to hear from some of the MacEgans!  ... can't wait  :)

KatherineT--I'm just glad

KatherineT--I'm just glad you made that comment!  When you said it, I thought, wait a minute.  It can't be the spring of 1180 in this story, because of the supporting characters that will come in--it has to be 1181.  So, anyhow, I e-mailed TPTB and asked them to make the adjustment.  I'm not sure if it's an easy fix or not, but we'll try!

It was a situation where, in my brain, it was always 1181 and it never occurred to me to double-check the year at the beginning.  Oops.  I swear, children suck away all of your brain cells...

nothing beats a great start

nothing beats a great start of a book! that was really wonderful! it easily gets someone hooked!

All I can say is .........

swooooon    :)

easily lived up to the promise of the first chapter.  Great work, Michelle!  Quin is not just manly...he's gentle and persistent as well.

Swoon is right!

My heart is already aching for Quin.  He so wants Brenna's love and thinks he might never have it.  Yet, he was willing to sacrifice his own happiness (and perhaps his own life) in an effort to save Aimon for Brenna's sake and feels guilty because he couldn't.  You gotta love this man!

Oh, and about squirming over the tension between them, I can see I was right.  The tension and pull between the two characters has been strong from the first time we saw them together.  <sigh>

 Wonderful start...enjoy

Wonderful start...I enjoy your historical romances! curious to see how Quin and Brenna work this out.

I think I'm in love

with Quin.  Swooooon is right.  LOL!

I think it's getting warmer in there now.  Is Brenna a wimp?

Absolutely loving this story.

Hmmmm .....

well if Brenna doesn't want him, I'm first in line!  ... I'll take him!   ... oh my, that Quin  ...... swoooooon   Embarassed

My knees are buckling!

What a guy!  And silly Brenna!  I assume that she was an illegitimate child and that she fears succumbing to passion like her mother must have done.  However, if Quin is offering marriage, then she wouldn't be ... whatever the word was in Ireland in 1181 for an "easy" woman.  Then she could indulge her passion all she likes, and Quin sounds like just the guy to help her do that!

JV, I am thinking

the same thing.  Brenna thought about being with her foster parents and them trying to shield everything from her.  She probably was illegitimate, but the shame wasn't her fault.  Unfortunately people aren't always kind, and it was probably much worse back in those days.  However, Quin is just the man to get her to change her mind.

I'm loving this story and the way Michelle is feeding it to us bit by bit.  I really enjoy historicals.

Oh wow I can't wait til she

Oh wow I can't wait til she gets over her fear of succumbing to her desires because throwing away a man like that is just plain CRAZY! Especially one who wants to marry you! Holy moly, can't wait for more of him...

Me thinks ....

that Quin needs to enlist his cousins' wives to have a heart to heart chat with Brenna .... they're all passionate women who I'm sure will be delighted to reassure Brenna that what she's feeling is absolutely wonderful for a marriage

I still say ... I'm calling first dibs on Quin!   Wink

Not only is Quin ....

passionate, protective, a man who knows what he wants and is willing to fight for it .... we now know he's a leader of men who makes tough decisions that weigh heavily on him ...  he has honour and courage .....

hmmmm, can we clone him (seeing as he belongs to Brenna) and plop the clones in our world?

I completely fell in love

I completely fell in love with him when I wrote him.  There's something about a man who builds ships...

Anyone here watch NCIS?  Maybe a younger version of Gibbs?  Wink

Yes! ....

I was picturing a young Mark Harmon as Quin during the inspection of his battered and burned ship  .... oh so delicious!

Quin

Quin is an excellent hero:  strong and yet tender, protective, and completely and hopelessly in love with Brenna.  You have to love a man like that!

BTW, how does Gibbs get those boats out of his basement?

WOW!

Wow, what a great read so far! I can't wait till tomorrows chapter. I've been a way from eharlequin for a while because of time restraints, but I will DEFINITELY be here everyday for this story!

WOW, just read all 4

WOW, just read all 4 chapters at once... can't wait for more.     Brenna is ashamed of her passion because of her mother...  going to be interesting watching Quin try to change her mind...  seems to be pretty deeply ingrained.   Wonder what her foster parents were like.  She definitely needs a talking to by someone she admires to help her get over it.

Brenna needs to talk

with other women who can assure her that there's nothing wrong with what she is feeling.  Indeed, it is something she really needs to feel -- especially about a man who loves and wants to marry her.

Poor Quin!  What a terrible state Brenna left him in...  What will happen for the cliffie tomorrow?

Dorthy, hi!  Nice to see you here again!Embarassed

Images for the weekend!

I'll be envisioning Quin, damp from the rain and with all those muscles bared (because I like to imagine that Aimon's tunic didn't fit him), kneeling behind Brenna rubbing her back and massaging her scalp.  What a nice and toasty image for the weekend, and how evil of you, Michelle, to leave us wondering for the whole weekend how Brenna will react!

I think

I need a fan!  Quin is a smart fellow, isn't he?  How Brenna can resist him I'll never know.  She's a nut, I tell ya!

I don't want to wait until Monday for more!  *pouts*

Hugs,
April

What a cunning

and sexy man.  I also like to think that Aimon's clothes don't fit.  Aah, the beautiful sight that greeted her eyes when he took his shirt off.  Yummy!

What a place to leave us with Quin behind Brenna, starting to massage her...  We have a whole weekeend to wait now.  Brenna doesn't know just how lucky she is.
