Some people get up too early!!!! Since I'm up I'll be the second post - Maybe - if no one else is posting at the same time.

EllenToo...Uh, EllenTwo! LOL
Ellen, What is this TOO EARLY of which you speak? I mean, can there be such a thing as too early? I know there can be too late. Sometimes for me, too late falls in the early evening, so maybe that's technically too early??? LOL Oh, that's convoluted, but hey, someone has to be an earlybird here!

New Digs...
Cool. <bouncing around on the new furniture trying to find a comfy spot to hang out> Not much new here to report. Just the usual things and enjoying the cooler weather. Thinking the time has come to switch out the wardrobe. How come it seems like I just got done hanging up the summer clothes??? Hmm....
Holly, nothing wrong with being an early bird. I've been doing my sewing in the evenings lately and I get addicted so I've been staying up way too late and haven't been getting up as early as I'd like.
Waving 'hi' to EllenToo. Hoping everything is well with you.

Hi Jennifer & Ann
I'm actually and early bird if I go to bed at a reasonable time of the day but lately I've stayed up to 2 or 3 in the morning reading. Last night I finished Beth Cornelison's newest book The Christmas Stranger and had to finish it in one sitting because I just had to find out "who done it".

Early Birds and Thursday!
It's Thursday!! Very cool and lovely here this morning. Well, more cold. I'm under a quilt! Nice!
Ann, I do love my early birdedness! It's quiet and I love watching the rest of the world wake up!
Jennifer, So glad you're having fun with the sewing. I started a new sampler project! Having fun with it!
Ellen, Oh, that's nice about Beth's book. She's a heck of a writer, and a very nice lady!
Okay, tons to do on my chilly morning!

Cool & crisp
Cool & crisp mornings here, but warm afternoons. Beautiful weather. Too bad it wouldn't stay this way longer.
Holly, I'm like you I love to wake the world wake up in the morning! What kind of sampler are you working on? Is it cross stitch? I got another block of my afghan cross stitched yesterday so four down and twenty-one to go. *G*
EllenToo, that's great that you found a book that you enjoyed that much. I can't honestly remember the last time I read a book in a day. There are just too many distractions. When I was teenager I'd get so caught up in a book that I'd read until three or four in the morning and then roll out of bed at six for school. Wishing I had that ability these days but anything under six hours of sleep and I'm dragging.
Okay, I'm off to get my second cup of caffeine and then get some things done. Hope everyone has a beautiful day.

Well, I guess I'll be the group's night owl. LOL I usually go to bed at around midnight, wake up at around 8 am and I have to be work at 8:30. Good thing I work in a casual office and only live 10 minutes from work. The only time I see dawn is if I've been up all night.
So night owls may not get any prizes for being the early bird but the television is better. :)
Early Weekend
My busy weekend starts this morning, so I'm running in to say hi in case I don't get back to you all until Monday!

sewing, etc.and Happy Friday!
I had coffee with Pat Pritchard (Alexis Morgan) the other day. She told me about a new BBC series that came out this summer and only had six eposides. Being Human features a ghost, a werewolf, and a vampire, of all things. I admit, that did NOT sound like my kind of show. But I decided to give it a try. I figured, ten minutes in and I'll turn it off. But I loved it! The writing is fresh, the humor is wonderful, and there's a touch of scary tossed in. Great character development, too. In two days I watched all six episodes.(!) If you can find it, give it a try.
Jennifer F- I would LOVE to see some of your sewing creations! Do you have any posted on Facebook or someplace else?
Ellen Too - I love when a good book keeps me up at night! Like you and Holly and Jennifer F, I'm also an early bird. I'm usually up by 5:00. Six days a week, I throw on my gym clothes and head for the gym. I don't usually get online until after a shower and breakfast.
Aurelene- Congrats on the weight loss! Smart of you to drink water before the blood draw. I'm told that dehydration makes the blood draw a lot harder to do.
Sandy- Night owls are just as productive as we morning persons. Rock on!

scones that didn't turn out
I was rooting around in our big old freezer last night and found a couple of scone mixes I bought at the Victorian Country Christmas fair last year. I've made a couple and gave away some as gifts, but I'd never tried the chocolate hazelnut scone mix. Sounds yummy, right? Well, I made them first thing this morning and I'm here to say, it isn't good. Not much flavor and not nearly enough nuts and chocolate. Next time I'll make my own, homemade version.
Holly- I remember the Where the Wild Things Are movie. Missed that on purpose, too.

I have to quit procrastinating and take my car in today for maintenance since I put so many miles on it. I'm thinking I'm going to visit a friend here in Texas and shouldn't go without having the oil changed, etc. It's been raining here some every day and usually just as I decided to go some place. At least the drought has been broken even if it was too late for my grass. It's looking like I'm going to have to resod my yard come spring but so are a whole lot of other people. The grass in my yard was put down at least 30 years ago so I guess it's time.
Gotta get off here and go or I'll not get anything done today.

Ellen Too- Yay for joining in! With just Holly and me, it was fun... but lonely.
I love soup, too! I make a lot of it in the winter. Years and years ago, a friend gave me the New York Times Bread and Soup cookbook. I've made so many of the soups and breads. Yum!
It's cold enough here to turn on the heat, but I'm too cheap.
October 1 is our heat-goes-on date. Tomorrow. Hooray! Tonight we'll definitely need a fire to keep us warm 'til bedtime.

I just got back from taking my car in for a checkup and oil change, etc. I had to get the dealer's shuttle to bring me home and there were two girls also needing a ride. I am totally surprised the shuttle driver didn't go nuts as they kept changing their mind about where they wanted to be dropped off.
He had started out to take them home first and about halfway there they changed their mind so he decided to drop me and the other person off before taking them where they wanted to go. Before he got me home they had changed their minds again. I really feel sorry for the shuttle driver.

Happy October!
Ann, like you, I refuse to turn on my furnace, so I went yesterday and purchased a ceramic heater. It's cold here, but it warmed the house up. I'm making a pot of homemade Veggie soup today. Nothing warms the soul more than homemade soup. I wish my oven were working, I'd make some homemade bread as well. We're hoping to get one really soon. Being without an oven in the summer is one thing and totally another in the winter. I've never made scones before, but I love to eat them! Maybe you could share one of your recipes with us, Ann.
I make a lot of soups during the winter. The family loves them. The trick to getting my picky almost 11 year old to eat it and not ask questions is the food processor. I miss the big chunks, but if I don't chop them fine, he sits there and makes a chunky veggie pile on the one side of his bowl and it drives us insane.
Just wanted to let you know that I'm here. Not ignoring. I've just had a lot going on, personally. I'm hoping October is so much better than September was.
Rae
A flyby 'hi'
Hello. Sorry I haven't been around lately. Life has been extremely hectic. FIL just had open heart surgery so that kept things hopping. And now everything is behind. Since we finally have one day without rain, I'm heading outside to do some more fall clean up so that everything is put away for winter.
My furnace is on but it doesn't run much as I always keep it low around sixty-five. The sun is out today so it'll warm up the house. *G*
I'm so far behind on my writing that it isn't even funny. Just couldn't concentrate while sitting in the hospital waiting room and when I was home, I was rushing to cook for the extended family and keeping the house running. If only there were a few more hours in each day. Hopefully I'll be around more regularly going forward.
Anyone working on any HAR's???

Rae- I have a radiant heat device in my office and love it. I can't imagine being without and oven. Good luck with a new one! Working for you is the decline in prices. You should be able to get a nice one for less money than you'd have paid a year or two ago.

Rainy Friday...
Thanks Holly and Ann. FIL is feeling better but still has a ways to go until he's back to normal. We're so glad that he's home now.
The rain is here, again. Thankfully yesterday I was able to rake four heaping bags of leaves, get the grass mowed and got the weed whacking done. Pulled out the last of my lawn ornaments and got everything on the porches stowed away for winter. Seems like we just got everything out for summer. <shaking head> Still have some trimming to do and the gardens to strip but didn't have the heart to pull out my flowers as they are still blowing and the hummingbirds are still buzzing around looking for food.
Well, with the rain being perfect excuse to stay inside today, I hope to get some more rewrites done. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Sorry in advance for the rant . . .
but earlier this week I was told I was being laid off on the 15th. Not that I necessarily love my job, but it wasn't the best news. They even went so far as to take my case load away and give it a co-worker, who in my opinion can barely handle the work she has much less mine, too. Have no clue what they expect me to do for the next two weeks. My boss threatens to fire people if he finds out they've left five minutes early, he'd really flip out if he caught me sitting there doing crossword puzzles or something. So I'm stuck pretending I have work to. There's some office gossip as to why I was laid off and not my co-worker, who constantly needs help to keep up and I don't. But I can't prove it, and it's not something I want to go into in public forum, so . . . I have also heard my boss was very reluctant to release me, which increases my opinion of why I was truly let go, but not that it changes anything.
Anyway on a happier note I celebrated my 20th anniversary earlier this week. We went out for a steak dinner and walked through the park where we got married. Tomorrow we're taking the kids and going fall festival-ing. My dh and I did that a few years ago for our anniversary, just the two of us, and had a great time. The kids now want to experience what we did that day, so tomorrow we're all going. I'm truly looking forward it and after the roller coaster I've been on this week I could use a mood lifter.
Hopefully everyone is enjoying the fall weather. It's my favorite time of year. So again sorry for the off topic rant, but I just wanted to vent.
Happy Sunday

Sleep Deprived
I'm disgruntled this morning by my lack of sleep thanks to the idiots of the water authority. It's not a happy Monday. Sorry, Hall.
Jen, sorry to hear about your FIL. Glad he's on the mend and hope you've had a chance to take a breath and get caught up on all the things you needed too.
Sandy, Happy 20th Anniversary! I hope you had a fun-filled day. That sucks about your job. But ya know, I hear a lot of stories similar to yours. Hang in there and know that you don't have to apologize for ranting/venting. That's what we're here for!
Ann, I didn't miss my oven in the summer, but I sure am begining to miss it now. Hopefully, we'll be able to find what we want in the very near future.
This is the third time I had to type all of the above. I'll be typing, it highlights the text and like that it's gone. I'm blaming it on Vista. But then again, I blame EVERYTHING on Vista. ;)

Sunny Monday
The weather is crisp and beautiful this morning. Slowly I'm getting caught up on life again. I'm considering entering one or two contests. I haven't entered many this year and a friend highly recommended a chapter contest so I thought I might throw my hat in the ring. It can't hurt, right?
Sandy, congrats on the 20th anniversary. That's wonderful! Sounds like you had a nice time celebrating. So sorry about the job. That's got to be rough. <sending a hug> Just remember where God closes a door, he opens a window. So keep your eyes open for something new, maybe something better.
Holly, so glad you had fun at the family reunion. Haven't been to one of those since I was a kid and used to tag along with my grandparents. Don't think anyone in my family still bothers. So nice that someone in your family takes the pains to plan such a big event.
Rae, so sorry your week isn't off to a good start. Hope you get the water and oven issues straightened out soon.
Okay, I'm off to polish up my opening chapters to enter in the contest. Hope everyone has a beautiful week.
