Make Mine Supers! (2)
It's not just the size that makes a Superromance super. It's not even just the down deep plots or the characters with real conflicts and real, serious problems on their hands. Running the gamut from contemporary comedy to heart-rending family drama, what makes a Super so incredibly super is that we get six of them every month and we're the happiest campers on the planet because the satisfaction is that good! So if you've been "super-ed", pop on in and share the love!

Uhhhh...a new thread?
Rae, I think you're just trying to confuse me here! I just get back, just start posting again, getting things figured out (like, I loved that I could make the thread a favorite so it's easy for me to find!) and now you go and start a NEW Super thread?
Oy.
LOL.
Hey, at least I found it.

I did it on purpose...
just to mess with you, Susan, had nothing to do with the fact that the other thread is over twenty pages.
All you have to do is add this one to your favorites as well. Although as a hint, when it gets to be like four or five pages full of messages, your best bet is to go to forums and come in the long way because it will take you directly to the new messages.

Ooops
I was posting like crazy on the old thread.
Thanks for the nice, new one, Rae, and the tips on getting here. I didn't realize the long way would work better (later).

I'm soooo frustrated. I thought I had a great break on my chapters this weekend and went back over them....sigh. I don't know where my mind was, my heroine's was in the gutter. Dh needs to hurry home.

Catching Up
Boy I just found the last thread and bam, it's off to a new one. Phew. Trying to keep up with all you ladies is hard!
Maureen, the pickle story was pretty funny. I was probably the only pregger woman who hated pickles and still does.
Kay and all of you migraine sufferers. Dark rooms and sleep usually do it for me, but since I've been going to a chiropractor, the migraines have lessened considerably and arent' quite as painful. Unfortunately, mine are triggered by chocolate and red wine consumed pretty close together. Sigh.
Welcome Susan and congrats on your new contract. I'm still waiting for a sale to Supers, but hey I've got to finish the propsal first!
Sam-how was B&N? I'd be too distracted. I need absolute quiet, which would explain why I'm up at 5am even on the weekends to get some words bown before the family wakes up.
Chelle I hope your hubby comes home soon:)
Hope I didn't miss anyone. Have a great afternoon.

LOL Rae
You thought you could lose me, huh? I can track you guys anywhere.... :)
B&N was fantastic -- I was so pleased, and not to sound stupid about it, but this was the first time I did this, took my little PC and went out for the afternoon to work, and it was great. I always thought I'd like to, and in fact it's pretty much why I bought the Axim aside of having it as an ereader, but I was there for 2.5 hours and got so much done! I'm kind of surprised, too, since I usually think I need quiet as well.
I went and used it like a library -- picked up a bunch of books for researching a new story, ones I may not have known about otherwise, brought them to a table in the coffee shop, and paged through, took lots of notes, and bought the two I wanted to keep -- one on Pittsburgh (I'm setting a book, maybe several, there), and one just for fun (Solving Crimes with Math -- it's a book all about the math they do on the TV show Numb3rs). I drank iced tea and read and took notes, and it's actually quite a good place to concentrate -- I don't think I concentrate that well at home, even when it's quiet, for whatever reason. I'm going to try to do it once or twice a week now.
Then I saw a Valentine's goody for dh and did a very unusual thing -- I bought it. LOL So I have a little prezzie for dh, and that's funny b/c we never do prezzies, but I thought, what the heck -- which is funnier because tomorrow my blog at WM is about me being the Valentine's Scrooge. I'm not, not really, but it's never been a holiday I care about much...
Anyway... it was a successful experiment. Got groceries on the way home, then came in and made dinner, etc and here I am. :)

Pittsburghians
Hi Sam,
You don't need to buy books about Pittsburgh, we can answer your questions! Lots of us speak the lingo.
The Pittsburgh zoo has (had?) a long, outdoor escalator. I went to the zoo a lot before I turned 7 but then we moved away and I never went back. I used to dream about the escalator but as I got older I thought it was just a dream, because an outdoor escalator? Who'd believe that?
I ended up back in Pittsburgh for college, went to the zoo, and ta da! The outdoor escalator. It was so freaky.
Ask me questions. Go ahead. You can start with who was the sexiest Pittsburgh Pirate ever? Richie Hebner.
See?
(Note: I was 9 when this card came out. Shiny jackets and ridiculous facial hair were sexy to me at the time.

My stepson!
Well it is 11:03 pm here.. in Kentucky.. I just got up at 10 to chck on my 2 men. I have been sick with sinus congestions, sore throat, and chest congestion for days now. Well last night my voice was squeaky .. woke up this morning and it was pratically all gone. My dss and hubby teased me all the way (1 and half hours) to the hospital. You should have heard me trying to sing the radio, just to make my dss laugh. He was very brave for a 10 year old taht fears almost everything. I was very very impressd by him. He started getting upset when they made him change clothes and all, but about that time the urse brought in the nerve medicine I had requested for him. I thought with everything going on it would be bettr to be safe than sorry. My dh laughed at me... and said I was over protective and over prepared. Is there such a thing? He and my dss slept some last night while I got things ready to go. I only slept about a hour and half. This with being sick on top of it. So dh put me to bed at 7 pm with orders to not get up for atleast 2 to 3 hours. It was his shift with my dss. Anyway you should have scene me at the hospital I had a big duffle bag with an extra outfit (incase he got sick form anesthia), cards, a bubble popper like game, his gameboy, extra batteries, books (that I never got to open), and much much more. Then I packed the blazer with a pllow, blanket, trash can, and cell phone charger. Too prepared.. I think not! Anyway I woke up to both my men sleeping... one in the floor by dss ad the other still knocked out on the couch. My youngest ss is at his granny's for a few das.. trying t prevent them from fighting and yelling at each other.. atleast until he gets a lil better! And for all of you all who remember the mom saga I have been dealing with for them you will find it interesting taht the youngest didn't go to the hospital to be with his bubba like he wanted today, because she brought her boyfriend taht choked my oldest dss. I called her last night when the youngest found out and begged her not too... She accused me of putting this fear in their minds. YEAH RIGHT!! Anyway he stayed home with his granny then. Dh and I just ignored him today... we couldn't keep him out of the waiting room (is public), but we had already promised ds not to let him in his room. Luckily she got the hint.. when she mentioned it and gave her a look from timbucktoo! She got so mad at me already when the nurses came in talking to me not her... calling me his mom... I told her no I was the stepmom (despite the fact that I was standing by himtaking care of him) The nurse said well he must be lucky to have you.. it takes more than having them to be a mom. I thought she was going to poop a brick! Then I told my dss I loved him and he told me. She looked at him and said, "I love you too son." He looked at her and said, "I know!" Nothing more no I love you.. no nothing. He had been talking a storm away to his dad adn me until she got there .. then wouldn't hardly talk to her at all. It think he knew we would take care of him. I will someday have to write these encounters in a book. It sure seems like a good soap opera though.. dunno... All in all it was a good day... I took care of keeping dh from saying some to the boyfriend.. dealt with the mom.... and took care of dss..then after all our visitors left dh took care of me.. You should have scene it .. before he tucked me into bed he laid down beside me, looked deeply into my eyes as he brushed the stray strands of hair out of my face, and thanked me for being so wonderful. He was so sweet telling me how much I meant to him, how lucky he was to have me, and how great I was to the kids.... I almost cried. Okay okay enough with my day. So sorry didn't mean to ramble on, but I guess I needed to share. Take care all.. hopefully during the 2 weeks he is off school and hom I will get some writing done. We shall see. Best Wishes.. Donya
If you have never loved.. you have never really lived!
Great answers Kim!
I loved your answers -- I love those questions! what is it about them? I have always wanted to answer them, and enjoy seeing everyone else's answers...
Carrie, I wonder if the bulk of everyone still aren't over on the old list? I guess they can't shut them down like they used to? It seems very quiet in here...
Susan, I think you promised to talk about your contract? :) New books afoot?
Ellen, thanks -- I dropped you an email, and from what I can tell, Pitt is a very sports-oriented city -- how could it not be? But there looks like there's a lot of other things there as well... lots. Rae, I know you live there now, too -- anytime anyone wants to share any info, feel free. With any luck, if I get it right this time, I could be writing Pittsburgh books for a while...

And Sam is far more organized than me to have the blog switch in her sig. Frankly, I don't remember how I did my sig. lol Anyway, visit me at Cigars...I'm giving away a copy of Doctor in Her House to one lucky winner!
The freshly turned 8yo son is home sick today. I believe we partied too hard this weekend. Poor guy.
Donya, glad the surgery went well and it sounds like you prevented dss from having too much stress from the others in his life. Good for you (and him.) Hope he heals quickly.
i'm off to figure these characters out and get them into a proposal.

New Contract
Yes, Sam, thanks for asking. I have a new contract for a Super. YIPPIIEEE!
The working title is A Real Comic Book Hero. Or A Real Hero. Or <tongue in cheek> A Real Super Hero. LOL. (I actually have a list of at least 30 alternative titles right now for HQ to pick from. Which doesn't mean any of them will work. <G> We'll have to wait to see. )
The hero is a comic book artist who is also an art therapist. The heroine has inherited her 6-year-old nephew after the boy's father murdered his mother. The boy is mute, and the hero is working with him. Because of course, the cops and lawyers want the kid to talk, to tell what he saw/heard the night his mother was killed.
My heroine believes nothing/no one is permanent in life so she has this (what she believes to be) very Zen outlook on life, that you just hold things for a little while, and then let them go.
The hero hates to lose anything, anyone...
I'm obviously working on the book right now, and while I don't have a firm release date, probably around a year from now. Next Jan or Feb.
It's good to be back in the saddle.

Susan, I love your titles! And your story sounds great -- very multi-layered. I can't wait to read it! I welcomed you back, but it's on the other thread. So again, it's cool to have you back here.
Donya, your story brought tears to my eyes. Sounds like your hubby is a real sweetie! I'm glad your dss is doing well from the surgery.
Sam, I didn't think I could write in a public place, but when I get stuck, I go to the library with my Alphie. For some reason, the change in locale gets me unstuck. And I can be incredibly productive without the distractions of home.
Ellen Too, I'm glad we're in your box! You'll have to tell us what you think. So many babies, so little time...
Which brings me to a question. How do you guys like the theme months? There was a cowboy theme month not too long ago. And March is the Bundles of Joy month for Supers. They had the authors fill out a fun little questionaire about parenthood for the About The Author section....

A flyby
Hi all,
Just a flyby to say welcome to Kelley and to catch up.
Ellen Reader, I'm so glad Carrie and I made your box! Please, definitely let us know what you think.
Donya, your dh sounds like a real sweetie. How nice that he appreciates you. Too many men leave the important words unsaid. Hope your stepson is feeling better very soon.
Carrie asked about theme months and I wanted to chime in. I think they're great every now and again, but I also wouldn't want a steady diet of them. One of the things I most love about Super is the variety of the stories each month and by making them too similar, I think we'd only be hurting ourselves. Just my humble opinion.
Due to the snow, kiddos are home from school today. Yippee. *snort* Don't get me wrong, I love my children, but I need to get some work done!

Popping in for a few moments. Welcome Kelley! I'm not a big fan of theme months, I like variety.
Kay - My kids came running downstairs this morning and asked if we were snowed in. I had to resist doing the old Toyota commercial jump while I shouted "Nope. You're going to school!" Too many snow days for us lately.
WM/Cigars - Loving the switch, ladies. What fun!
I'm headed back in for the next 1000 words....
snow days...
Ahhh, I remember those. I miss them terribly. I'm wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt it's so darn warm around here. I might have to drive to the snow soon just to get my fix. It's been a long time. Dh hates the snow. Sometimes I wonder how the heck he and I ever hooked up...we're so different.

Love your idea, Susan
I can't wait to read it either. I have no luck with titles and I hate coming up with them!
Good luck with those next 1,000 words, Natasha!
My kids wanted a snow day(which is a very rare thing here in Coastal MS), but I told them that they better hope that it coincidences with a break we're already having, because they'll just be adding to the school year at the end. I'm so ready for summer vacation.

Susan
You idea sounds GREAT! And Donya, your story brought a lump to my throat.
Day 2 of no writing for me. I had to have stitches out and then the dr informed me that I need physio for the wrist that just got out of the cast, sigh! Added into that I'm waiting on phone calls and e-mails and trying to get crap together for a meeting with the bank next week so we can try to sell our house.....
Thank god I'm not on a deadline.
Hopefully by tomorrow or Thurs things will quiet down. I think we're going to pay for the house damage rather than go through insurance since the deductible plus insurance increase doesn't really make it worth it.
It really does seem to be one thing after another sometimes, doesn't it.

Well I found it. (smacks head) I was over on the OLD thread. Hee! So yes Chelle I'm back (waving) I'll get in touch with you soon.
We took the kids to a waterpark (Great Wolf Lodge) in Traverse City. Fun! They love it. My dd is a huge fan of waterslides. Who knew? but I had to catch her at the bottom. I spent the better part of four days at the bottom of the blue waterslide on the left catching my mermaid princess Strawberry Shortcake (her preferred title now). I did make time to beat my 11 yo ds in HORSE, which floored him. LOL. And yes Chelle, we had rotten weather--blizzard conditions--so we stayed an extra day. :)
The kids were crushed.
Better go write--ds#3 is actually napping--it's QUIET in here!
Ami
Awww, Donya!
That's sweet of your dh. Sometimes you just need to hear it, you know? So glad that your dss is doing well.
Bad weather expected here this afternoon and tonight. We're getting another cold front and this year, it seems to send wicked weather ahead of it. Today was in the 70's, tomorrow temperatures will plummet into the 50's as a high! Joy! No ballet class for us tonight. Plan to get home and batten down the hatches!
I'm surprised you get any work done at B&N either, Sam. Being surrounded with all of those books would drive me to distraction! I love books, but right now my budget won't handle it! Hmm, that might be a good time to go write at B&N!
I'm loving the blog switch. Of course, I read both of them anyway, but it's interesting! Each of them have their own 'feel'.
LindaC
thank you
Thank you Ellen Too for telling me I was at the wrong place. I was wondering why there were no posts today after I posted mine. I saw the part about the new thread, but had no idea what it meant. Gotta love the computer lingo! Actually, I just thought everyone was busy shoveling the driveway like me. Played hookey just to shovel the driveway. Well, not really....
So hello everyone. And thanks again Ellen Too for telling me where to find the group.
Favorite quotes
I finished my afternoon goal, so I have a few minutes to play!
Kim - I'm throwing an iceball your way. We no longer have snow - our temperatures have been so frigid all the snow has iced up. I'd be more than happy to share some with you - how about a house switch?
Since Ellen isn't here yet to give us a fun game, I've got a question in the meantime. I need a little quote for a project I'm working on and I'm having trouble picking one. What are you favorite quotes? Inspirational - motivational - or just plain funny.
Tasha
Question for Super Authors
LOL, I got a giggle writing Super Authors. One of those Noun/adjective things! :-)
I have a question. Or a couple, mostly just clarifying. I have been swamped with RITA reading and have only managed a few Supers recently so figured you could tell me definitively...is there a set sensuality expectation? The reason I ask is that I might tune up another book for submission, but my characters do not have sex. However most that I've read they have. Is it one of those unspoken requirements?
In Romance you can or not, but it's never explicitly described. I've done both in my books.
And word count is now at 60-65, right?
And one further question....my book is set in Canada but has a foreign hero...am I shooting myself in the foot for bringing in a European? It's more about it fitting the tone of the line, as a storyline I think it's fine. But there are tone differences.
Oh my. I feel like a newbie all over again.
Thanks in advance.

Tasha--We could house swap except my house is a mess and it comes with three very large cats. Oh, and I hate my furniture. LOL...I told my dh I wanted to throw it all away and sit on the floor. Ice huh? Hmmm, that sucks. It was so warm here I saw people returning to flip flops on their feet. Next week, spaghetti straps, I'm sure.
Quotes? I like funny writer quotes. Like these...
"Most writers can write books faster than publishers can write checks."

"I don't think anyone should write their autobiography until after they're dead."

Nooky...or not
Donna--Supers really runs the gamut of sexuality. But I think you will see an increase in sexuality and sensuality simply because readers have expressed an interest in seeing more. We've entered the age of the voyeur and it definitely shows in the books being released today. For myself, I enjoy following the characters right into the bedroom! No close the door for me, thank you very much because I feel that the way a couple interacts with one another sexually is a good way to clue in on those unspoken currents flowing between them.

Kim...
You're a woman/writer after my own heart. ;) Love the way you said that -- really perfect. I agree -- a like a slightly hotter, or very much hotter, Super... Donna, check out Ellen's Wanted Man for one example of a Super that gets about as hot as possible and I LOVED it.
I still have so many Supers piled up -- I read in genre chunks, several Supers at a time, several Blazes, or several something else -- right now I'm working through about 8 paranormal/mysteries/suspense, but I'm looking forward to making my way back to Supers, and I have a few Spice, etc piling up -- every time I add a new line... ugh... Flip flops - that's just evil
Kim - I love flip flops. Whenever Old Navy has the buy 3 for $5, I stock up just so I can have one in every color. I start wearing flip flops in March (around St. Patrick's Day because I have a St. Patrick's Day pair) and keep wearing them until November. It might be nice to be able to do that without fear of frostbite! And I see your three fat cats and raise you a couple of dogs. I also hate my furniture, along with my 1990s Waverly wallpaper and my cracked ceramic tile. Heck, let's skip the house switch, leave the kiddos and the kitties with the hubbies and head somewhere with margaritas!
Donna - I've read Supers quite extensively lately and found a wide variety of love scenes. I can't say that I have a particular wish for more or less explicit sex, it just has to fit the characters and their story.
Tasha
Catching up on lots of topics!
School closings - in all the years I've lived in Erie (10 winters now) I think my son has had ONE snowday. Last week or so he actually had his first delayed opening in years, but that was because there was a lot of ice, not snow. I was very glad they'd actually had the sense to delay the opening. That *could* possibly happen again tomorrow, same reason - ice, not snow.
You can't let a litle (or a lot!) of snow stop you if you live in Erie.
Thanks, everyone, for the warm reception for my Comic Book Hero. I tried to figure out how to post his picture here (and maybe the pictures of his very attractive 5 brothers - did I mention he's one of 12 kids? Sheesh!) here, but I couldn't figure it out. Maybe I'll pop them up on my website, and you can see how yummy-lishious he is. I have to go hero and heroine "shopping" when I start my stories, because I'm a very visual person, and while I see my stories like movies in my head, the details of their faces is often sort of out-of-focus. I have a favorite shopping site for them.
I like nookie in my books, too. It's sort of annoying me that these guys don't have the same chemisty (or maybe it's just ath my poor heroine is just too TIRED right now <G>) that some of my other couples have had. But you have to write the sensuality level that works for the particular story and the particular characters you're working with. I'm sure things will be plenty hot when we get to the nookie scenes. <G>
Donna, hugs on that injury! May you heal quickly, and sell the house quickly, too. The market is sort of tough right now.
I'm LOL at the Richard Curtis quote. (And this is probably not the place to admit that. LOL!)
Kelley!! So great to "see" you here. Thanks for following my trail from Holly's blog!
Theme months -- while I love the themes, love babies, love cowboys, etc. I don't think I like the concept of all 6 books being the same theme. What will the reader who hates that theme read? I like variety.
Okay, I think that may catch me up. Oh, wait, a favorie quote. I love quotes.

Quotes...
I like my husband's favorite: "If you argue for your limitations, you might just get to keep them." :)
He says this to me when I'm arguing for mine, and it's so irritating, but he's right.. :)
There's also that old quote/joke -- A man is not complete until he's married, then he's finished... ;)

Thanks guys!
Ok...so that kind of answered my question. You know in every book I hit a point where I do the "do they or don't they" bit. I tend to stay away from it with Romance though my heroine DEMANDED I let her sleep with the hero in Marriage at Circle M.
When I think of this particular manuscript, there is a spot where the heroine makes the choice - to do it or to walk away. It would also work to have her take the risk and then have the bottom fall out as a consequence. Of course making that change and revising the last 3rd accordingly will also lend itself to the 5k extra that I need. :-)

Sam, that clinches it...I have to get WANTED MAN. I've been notoriously slow on my Books To Buy list but I'm just too intrigued now. I'll have to order from eHQ probably cuz it's not in stores anymore. Still slogging through Nic Sparks. God, help me. Does this book ever end? Blah blah blah. More introspective blah blah. Oh, and did I mention BLAH BLAH BLAH? LOL...ain't I a stinker?
Okay, in all seriousness, oh wait, I was serious. I hate this book.

Which book?
Kim, which Sparks book are you reading? I've got one on my TBR shelf. I bet I'll be sorry I bought it...
No ice here, but we've got a nice snowfall to cover up the old snow. Just enough to mess the roads up. God help me, it better NOT be enough for school to close. Though our district rarely closes or delays. (thankyouthankyouthankyou)
Gotta go track down ds#2. he was supposed to get dropped off by a friend's mom a half an hour ago and is a no show so far. Huh. Hope I wasn't supposed to go get him...I'm gonna go check...

Determined to keep up!
Hi all,
A new thread with only 48 posts...yeah! I am determined to keep up with you chatty girls in here!
Just wanted to give a shout out to Rogenna Brewer's March release THE MARINE'S BABY...a wonderful read with a great military hero and a really unique twist on the baby/who's the daddy plot...loved it!
Also, a few weeks ago I read the last in the "Texas Hold 'Em" series, TEXAS BLUFF by Linda Warren. I fell in love with all the characters --- what a great bunch of heroes --- so I had to go back and order all the previous books in the series so I could read the story of each of the guys!
I am so inspired...now to get back to my own SR wannabe ms!
