The Ledoux Curse by Debra Cowan
The Ledoux Curse by Debra Cowan.
In 1688, a jealous French nobleman cursed the Ledoux family—if a Ledoux woman fell in love with a man, he would die, damning her to a life of loneliness and guilt.
Despite her mother and grandmother’s warnings, Aubrey never believed in the curse. Until she fell in love with Jeff Wyrick. Until Hallowe'en night five years ago.
After that horrible night, Aubrey pushed Jeff away, vowing never to see him again or admit her feelings, even to herself. Even when he appears on her doorstep with those chiseled features and eyes that melt her resistance.
But Jeff didn’t come back for a meaningless night with Aubrey—he came back for a lifetime. And he’s willing to risk everything, including his life, to be with her.
But first they must break The Ledoux Curse.
Don't miss the fiery romance of Jeff's brother, Ben, and Cass Hollister in the new paranormal anthology, Aftershock, also featuring stories by New York Times bestselling author Sharon Sala and Janis Reams Hudson. Available now!

Very interesting
Another very intriguing read. It will be interesting to see whether Jeff has the answer to breaking the curse and whether he can convince Aubrey to trust it!
[There are those times when I wish I could curse someone! I'd curse the foul-mouthed, high-tempered, tail-gating, road ragers to a lifetime of driving 15 MPH behind a farm tractor with no way to pass!]

Off to a great start!
Fascinating first chapter. I can't wait to see all the problems Jeff is probably going to unleash. What a perfect story to usher in the Halloween season.
Interesting start.
Interesting start.

A curse
and all it entails.... I love the Silhouette/Nocturne series and the start to this story has me on the edge of my seat already to see what happens. Did Jeff really find a way to break the curse? Will Aubrey be willing to listen to him? Can't wait to see what unfolds.....
I agree with you JV. So far, two excellent stories to start off the autumnal season, as if we would have expected anything else....
Have a great day everyone and Happy Fall!

Hmmm, interesting start... I don't usually read nocturnes, but have found some really good ones (I loved the Raintree series). Will have to see how this one goes, but so far I like it. :)
LOL JV, I can just see your cursed causers of road rage, following farm tractors!
Yes, it's a
great start to a new story! Wish it was a daily, though.... I want the next chapter, but don't want to wish it were a Monday... LOL!

I know how you feel about cursing those road ragers. I had a great time coming up with the curse for this story. Using one (or two) of these things could sure come in handy. LOL.
Deb
Very interesting story so far.
I agree with the wish this was a daily read or at least twice a week story.
Are the stories in Aftershock all related or separate? Did you work with the other writers or just submit the stories?

I'm also another one

So far, the story appears to be a great one, though.

I don't usually care for the nocture stories either, however, I can say I do like them better than the luna series. This one is interesting so far, so I'll be back to read another chapter.
Re: very interesting story so far
<< Are the stories in Aftershock all related or separate? Did you work with the other writers or just submit the stories? >>
Hi, Elaine.
The stories in Aftershock are separate, but with the common thread that each heroine has cheated death and is left with a paranormal gift.
The other two writers and I worked together. Sharon, Janis and I have been friends for a loooong time, and Sharon had the original idea about the heroines and how they acquired their paranormal gifts. The three of us have wanted to do a project together for years. Finally, our schedules worked out so that we could.
We each brainstormed a storyline then discussed them. It was a lot of fun determining which paranormal gifts to give the heroines. Once we had a handle on the stories, we submitted them as a package.
Thanks for the questions!

Sharon is a great person.
I have met her twice at RWA in Dallas and she is just wonderful.
I found Aftershock at the bookstore yesterday and have not started it yet as I wanted to finish the book I was reading. Hopefully I can begin it tonight or tomorrow. All the stories sound interesting.

She is, Elaine! I adore her.
Thanks for picking up a copy of Aftershock.

I just got the ebook version of Aftershock. Have finished Sharon's story and am in the middle of Janis's right now. I have to tell you, I haven't stopped reading except to get some lunch with my husband who was on retreat, take care of some laundry, answer some work emails (I'm working at home) and now to come in here and tell you all, the book is worth getting. I think I will finish the whole book tonight! Right now I do have to go think about dinner since I will have one hungry 14 yo fisherman coming home soon!

Hmmm. A solution to the curse. Will it work? Of course, it will. This is HQ, but they will have to work and suffer for it.

She is one stubborn
She is one stubborn woman. I support Jeff trying to guilt her into helping even though I usually don't support anyone trying to guilt anybody into anything! (well... there was a mouthfull of anys
).
If she believes so fully in the curse, why doesn't she want to try to break it.
Deb, I read Aftershock and loved all three stories in it
Loving this!!!
I think, Papaya, she's afraid there isn't a way to break it. She'd rather have him in the world alive, not with her, than to have him try and be with her, but killed in the end.
AFTERSHOCK is on my list of books to buy when I go to the store! Glad to know it's a must read!

You've gotta love him.
You've gotta love a man who, after nearly being killed by a curse on the woman he loves, spends five years tracking down a way to break the curse so they can be together.
I think Aubrey is afraid that the minute she acknowledges that she still loves him Villeroy's curse will come into effect and kill him immediately. It seems that the declaration of love is the trigger for the curse, but it also seems that it's the trigger for the cure to be effective.

I quite agree. JV
You really do have to love someone who goes back to where the curse began and then goes all over to find a way that he and the woman he loves can be together.
I'm really enjoying this story.
Re: She is one stubborn
LOL. I'm glad Jeff's guilt tripping didn't put you off.
<< Deb, I read Aftershock and loved all three stories in it
Yea! Thanks, Papaya. I'm thrilled to hear that! If it's all right with you, I'd like to pass that along to Sharon and Janis. They'll be tickled.

Glad everyone is enjoying the story so far.

P.S. Papaya, thanks for the thumbs-up to pass along your compliment to Sharon and Janis.

Whoa. This is getting weirder and weirder. But I'm still loving the story :) I wish it were a daily!
April, you were right!
This is … kind of
This is … kind of convoluted, non?

oui, very convoluted!
oui, very convoluted!
Where are the ashes???
In the fireplace? That's my guess.
In spells, is there any rhyme or reason? Eye of newt, wing of bat?
I've read the 1st two tales in AFTERSHOCK and have enjoyedd them both! Debra, I'm planning to read the last one, yours, later today. It sounds great and if it wasn't time for bed, I'd start it now!
I REALLY hate that this is a weekly. I want more now!!!!

The missing chapter
What does the cryptic message mean, when there is no chapter 23? I'm really hooked on this and wish I didn't have to wait a whole week for the answer to that riddle!
P.S. -- You've really gotta love a man who hasn't even dated in 5 years being true to a girl, the love of whom nearly killed him!

Ditto
What JV said.
How many men do we know who wouldn't date anyone in 5 years if he couldn't have the girl he loves? He definitely knows exactly what he wants and goes after it. Hurray for Jeff!
I know!!!! I love it
when the Hero's are loyal like that! And to spend 5 years looking for the way to break the spell? *sigh* What Jeff has done SHOWS more than words could ever say about how much he loves her. The words are good, don't get me wrong, but action really does 'speak' louder, doesn't it?
Hugs,
April

First Of All...
Aftershock is definately on my TBR list!! I'm glad to see such great reviews about it.
Secondly...how amazing is it that 3 of my favorite authors got together for a book!! I think I've probably got every book Janis has ever written (my husband swears if I put anymore books on the bookshelf he's going to scream...lol).
And now... why is it that real men can't be as dedicated to us as Jeff is? I mean, how amazing a concept is it for a man to be so in love with a woman that he'd go to such lengths to be with her? I think it's insightful the way Jeff insists that the curse can be broken. It's like he's looking out for her happiness whether she wants it or not...and isn't that the real meaning of true love?
~Andrea~
Quite a guy
Jeff is quite a guy! He's been true to her for all this time even though she ended the relationship. Of course, we know why she did it, and he obviously knows, too. Still, I'm very impressed by his steadfastness and loyalty, especially in the face of potential death. That goes above and beyond!
I don't know why women are expected to wait virtuously for their men, no matter how long they are apart or why -- whether it's duty or just him "finding himself" -- but if men are in the same sitution, well, they can't be expected to just wait around. They have "needs"! Well, do they not also have hands?

Completely innocent
Why, Frenchie, I didn't mean a thing, of course! <Batting eyelashes innocently>
I was simply confirming that they do have hands! Nothing more. Whatever did you think I meant?

Well put. I love it!
Read Aftershock this weekend
and all three stories were great.
I would like to see more of these types of books where the stories are paranormal but not vampires and werewolves.
Do we get to see Ben and Cass in this story?
Elaine
Jeff is courting danger...
Jeff is courting danger... but what a hero.
Papaya...
You said it! There's something so sexy about a guy who know what he wants... Especially when it's you and you want him, too!
Of course, she's not ready to admit that yet, and I can't say I blame her.
Does Aubrey have ANY idea how lucky she is???? I know she will by the end of the story, but what about now?

Only Ben shows up, but he talks about Cass.
Yea!
So glad y'all are still enjoying the story ... and liking Jeff. He's my kind of guy.
I Read Aftershock This Weekend...
and all I can say is WOW!!!! I don't know how you ladies do it. I've tried to sit down and write a book before and all my efforts usually come out looking like my second grader wrote them. LOL. All 3 of you definately outdid yourselves with that book!!!!!
Go Jeff!! Go Jeff!! Go Jeff!! While I believe that a woman knowing her own mind and sticking with her principles is extremely important...I also belive that there are occasions when a man has to shatter those principles. Especially when we're acting against our own best interests. Don't tell the men folk I said that!!!
I love to read a book where the hero and heroine are working together to solve a problem or a puzzle instead of working against each other or one just not doing anything. How cool would it be if it happened like that every single time in real life?
~Andrea~

These are the kinds of books I love, too. I guess because it's one way their relationship develops. Seeing how the characters work together gives them another dimension.
Thanks for the comments,
Deb
If you haven't read the 5th chapter, don't read this post!!!!!!
I can totally understand where Aubrey is coming from. She doesn't want him hurt. And I think I'd be really freaked if I'd been visited by the ghost of the man who tried to kill the man I loved.
This is such a great story, Debra! I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I wish this were a daily! Waiting until next Monday for more sux!

I'm with you, April
I totally understand why Aubrey wants to back off, and it's certainly not for selfish reasons. It's all to protect Jeff, but God bless Jeff for not being willing to give up on them.
I love this story, and I'm counting on Jeff's theory of how to defeat Villeroy to work!
