Mandy--
Thanks so much for picking up a copy of EOH when you saw it!! :) It feels really weird not being able to go to a bookstore and search for it on the shelves.
But the series is going to be released here in the UK this summer as Super-Nocturnes, so that will be fun! I was so excited when I found out that they're going to be a part of the Nocturne family, too. :)
Thanks again!

Super-Nocs? Is that going to be something new or just situation specials?
That would definitely be horrid if I couldn't see my books (If I had any yet) on the shelves. The book stores would think I was a stalker--constantly returning and stroking the smooth, glossy covers. "Hello my little beauties."

UK versions
Mandy, the Super Nocturnes are Nocturnes released in the UK. They have the Intrigue logo on them and also the Nocturne logo. It's very interesting. They use the same artwork, but add some sparkles. I got a UK copy of Familiar Stranger recently and they reversed the artwork for the cover (switched hero with heroine) and then added some little gold sparkly doo-dads, and there you go! Super Nocturne!

Super-Nocturnes in the UK
Hey Mandy,
I think the Super-Nocturnes are only going to be in the UK. My understanding is that they're longer than the Nocturnes that are releasing under the Intrigue line here, but I'm not sure if they'll be strictly HQNs, or if Harlequin will pull from their other lines as well. Also not sure if the artwork will look the same, but I'm assuming it will. I really like the little swirly designs they've put on the Nocturnes here. :)

Michele...
I thought the UK cover for Familiar Stranger looked beautiful!
It's been a lot of fun seeing the different Nocturne titles come out here. And the distribution has been great, which can't be said for a lot of romances here. So far, Borders is about the only place that I've found a really good selection of romances--especially paranormal ones. But the Nocturnes are showing up everywhere!! :)

Ok, Vivi...I'm not harassing you, am I? :) Anyway, I had a hard time trying to type in that tiny little white box on the blog. I got a little frustrated with it and just typed it into a word document and copy/pasted it into my post. Anyway, my paragraphs aren't spaced properly now, and I can't edit. So, it looks really sloppy. But, I thought it looked nice in the word document...double spaces between paras and all!

I missed the chat, but all
I missed the chat, but all these giveaways have me thinking . . . and realizing that, through following blogs and entering contests, I've been doing wrong by my favourite authors by rarely actually purchasing their books! My wallet is happy, but I feel somewhat guilty about it.
Not that I'm going to stop, mind -- the autographed copies have a place of honour on my shelf -- but I think I'll start picking up an extra copy and donating it to the hospital or giving it to someone who'd appreciate it.
Hi Vivi
I read Kellens story and I absolutely LOVED IT...The Valorian Chronicles is one of my favorite series in the nocturne line. I can't wait until the next one comes out, I hope it's soon because I don't know if I can wait.
I was wondering is it Olena's story because I would really like to get to know her better. I think she has a really great history.
I wanted to ask a question
I wanted to ask a question of you this week... What determines which books you buy each month? What influences you the most? Blurb, cover art, authors, word of mouth?
wj
What effects my buying
Author, and cover as well as back blurb.
I would rather by Michele Hauf or Vivi Anna (though not so much Vivi now..she still owes me. :P ) than Danielle Steele or Nora Roberts, because I know that Michele or Vivi are awesome authors, the covers of their books rock, and the back blurb keeps me intrigued to read more.

determining what books to buy
I'd have to say the author is the first thing I look for, then a good blurb on the back of the cover. Cover art not so much, even though they look good, it doesn't matter to me if the cover's great or not because it doen't change the story at all. And of course word of mouth is good also. I've discovered several author's I've come to love(hint hint Patrice and Rhyannon) because of word of mouth. And for instance, because of Wayne, I'm really looking forward to reading Rebecca Brandywine's Nocturne debut in the June books. It sounds fantastic, and I hope she does more with Nocturne.

So whos ready for Supernatural? And a word on contests
Oh..I won't be watching Supernatural (Penguins game is on at 7pm (Go Pittsburgh! Flyers stink!). But is anyone ready for the big let down that another Winchester brother will bring? I know I am!
On another note, I've realized something today. I stopped entering contests. Why? Because other then the nice, nice, nice (did I mention they were nice) authors here, I never win. Now I'm not a sore sport..just entering and not winning gets repetitive (am I right? I KNOW I AM)..so ive decided to stop.

Question...
What determines which books you buy each month? What influences you the most? Blurb, cover art, authors, word of mouth?
wj
I automatically buy all the
I automatically buy all the Nocturnes. But when it comes to other books, author plays a huge part in it. Blurb is a key selling feature for me. Those things also factor in how quickly I read the Nocturnes though. Cover doesn't do too much for me. I like a good cover, but ultimately it doesn't affect if I buy the book.
Got lost, but found it
Wow, I finally found this message board again! I was confused by the folders and now the new list of topics. Anyway, what influences my buying decisions is a great cover. (I know, sometimes the covers can be so good and yet the story can be so bad; I'll never learn.) Back cover blurbs. And if I've heard a lot about it online. I have a handful of favorite authors. Gena Showalter! And I like different stuff. Original creatures I've never heard of before, I'll give a try. THe tried and true, like vampires, have to have a new kind of twist to interest me now. Or an amazing hero.

Most likely due to the fact that I won an RT Reviewer's Choice Award. WOOT!!!

I'm more into eras or
I'm more into eras or countries or themes. I'm more likely to choose a book if it's in the particular time period or country I am currently reading about (Vikings, Regency, Georgian, Renessaince, Mideveil, Arthurian, Celtic, other cultures or time periods - Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain, Mexico or other exotic locales). A book that doesn't interest me today may interest me next month. However, a paranormal, fantasy or space-faring romance will grab my attention at any time or any place.
And, yes. I do judge a book by it's cover. One of the things that draws me to romance novels are the pictures of the characters. When I first started reading romances, I started on historicals and I used to love to see the dresses. Now, I prefer a book with something that indicates what the main theme of the book is about or the images of the main characters on the cover (I don't necessarily need to see the sixpack although that's not a detriment. A face shot with a smirk or smile will get me too). I do not like books with just squiggles or lines or geometric modern stuff on it.
As for the back blurb, as an addicted reader, I read each one voraciously and have been known to pick up a book whose cover I didn't like but the blurg caught me.
Once I find I like a specific author, I will hunt down all their previous work and add it to my collection and forever after will collect their new work. I hate to think that there's a story out there that I don't know about.

Hi everyone. *waves* I followed Michele Hauf from Luna to the Nocturnes because she's such a spectacular writer. Now I'm hooked on the series as well as the writer. I'm working my way to obtaining the backlist bit-by-bit. I just found four of them at my local used bookstore and have ordered four more from eHarlequin. I can't wait 'til they arrive. When I saw a book package in the mail today, I ripped it open right away! Unfortunately, it belonged to my co-worker. Ooops!
