Online Read - Seducing the Vampire - Bonne Vanak (Nocturne)

Silhouette Nocturne Seducing the Vampire - Bonne Vanak: Shunned by his mother’s vampire clan after a liaison with the clan leader’s daughter, a half-wolf, half-vampire is stunned when his former love returns to him after a century, looking for his help!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bonnie Vanak fell in love with romance novels during childhood. While cleaning a hall closet, she discovered her mother’s cache of paperbacks and started reading. Thus began a passion for romance and a lifelong dislike for housework. After years of newspaper reporting, Bonnie became a writer for a major international charity. She travels to destitute countries such as Haiti to write about famine, disease and other issues affecting the poor. When the emotional strains of her job demanded a diversion, she turned to her childhood dream of writing romance novels. She lives in Florida with her husband Frank and two dogs, where she happily writes books amid an ever-growing collection of dust bunnies. She loves to hear from readers. Visit her Web site or email her at bonnievanak@aol.com.

CURRENT RELEASE

IMMORTAL WOLF - October 2009

Exiled to a life of extreme loneliness because everyone she touches dies, Emily Burke has every reason to distrust Raphael Robichaux. The immortal werewolf possesses immense power and has been summoned by her pack to end her life. And yet, from the moment she lays eyes on the powerful rebel, he awakens all the longings she's kept bottled inside…and gives her hope.

When Raphael meets Emily, he knows something enormous is at stake. For not only does he see that her blood can restore life—but she is his destined mate. Trust doesn't come easily to Emily. But somehow Raphael must convince her to put her life in his hands. Only then will an ancient prophecy be fulfilled and a terrible evil destroyed….

Interesting start

Well, despite this seeming to be a bit darker than my usual book choices, I'm fascinated by the charm and its apparent power to bring Indigo's wish to him.  I'm also curious about the ribbon around her neck, which, if I read this correctly, means that she's tied to someone else.

And, of course, I can't resist a male who's helpless against the woman he loves, as Indigo obviously is.  So, I'm in!

I read this the same as you.  I wonder, is her 'mate' is the one she can't trust?

Loving the start of this, Bonnie!  Can't wait for more, and since I have IMMORTAL WOLF, I won't have to wait for too long!  I must say as much as I like this 1st chapter, I hate that I have to wait another week for more!

off to a great start Bonnie. But then I already know that anything you write be it paranormal or historical, is going to grab me from the first page. ;-) Can't wait to read more about Indigo and Avril.

And BTW, it was nice to see Raphael again. Does this fall in his timeline before or after he finds Emily?

Hi Kelley

I'm still in Haiti for the day job, but finally have internet, a really slow and iffy connection. Seducing the Vampire takes place after Raphael meets Emily. However, I wrote the story so you really can't tell, for anyone who hasn't read Immortal Wolf or any of my other Draicon books. Hope that helps! Glad you are enjoying it so far.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Graphic. I love it! I'm very curious.

Thanks Kelley... Tabitha....

Glad you like it. Indigo was an interesting guy for me to write.

In all honesty, everyone, I don't want to post and infringe on readers who want to have a discussion without "author intrusion." I want readers to feel free to say what they think, either positive or negative. To me (the reader in me speaking now!) it's important for readers to feel free to say what they think.

So I'll pop in from time to time to answer any questions you have, but I do want everyone to feel as if they can post freely.

BTW, speaking as a reader now, I read some really great Intrigues while I was in Haiti. They kept me somewhat sane during a very grueling trip. The authors are BJ Daniels and Jessica Anderson. Kudos to them for giving me a much-needed break last week. (I got into Jessica's Internal Affairs while we were driving from south central Haiti back to PAP, but got slightly carsick from the hairpin turns, so I read after the drive!).

I don't know if this is the right place to say it, just wanted to mention that my two fav. lines to read lately are the Silhou. Romantic Suspense and the HQ Intrigues. Wonderful reads for me as an escape when I travel!

Hey Bonnie, we don't mind you popping in and discussing with us.  I've never yet seen any of us hold back just because the author was particiapting either Wink so feel free to join us!

Intrigue and romanitc suspense are my favorite lines too!   Just finished BJ Daniels last of the Corbett brother series.  All were stand alone books, but I read them in order cause I like to read continuities that way. Cool

Was the last one "Smokin' Six-Shooter?"

I've read that one and "One Hot Forty-Five."

Need to get the rest.  I'm so hungry to read lately, but have stuff I need to write, too.

I think "Big Sky Dynasty" might still be available here.  Maybe some of the other's are too.   She sometimes sells out though.   THey also might be in ebook form if you read ebooks.  Those don't sell out Cool but I read them on my laptop and it's not as nice as having a book in your hand!

 Welcome Back

 Welcome Back Bonnie!

Kelley that's the same thought popped into my head as well, it being Victor.

I succumbed

I was going to wait until all the chapters were posted, but I read the first two this morning before work.  Bonnie, PLEASE tell me you have more Draicon werewolf books in the works.  I'm really loving these.

Picked up the Lady and the Libertine off a clearance table at Zellers yesterday.  Looking forward to that in the near future too - but know I have to look for books 2-6 in the series just so I feel complete!

Lynne

Bonnie,

We love when authors come out to play with us!  We're all here to enjoy the read, and, though we sometimes give the characters heck when they do something we can all CLEARLY see is not in the best interest of furthering their relationship, we don't normally give the authors too much grief -- just the characters. We complain over their lack of communication (a given in pretty much every story 'cuz otherwise there'd be no BBM), and sometimes we sigh over them and feel like crying over them.  Sometimes we give the hero down the road for his alphaness.  Oh, yeah, and we bemoan the cliffhangers that drive us up the wall!

On the other hand, the authors inevitably let out their Mr. Hyde alter egos and seem to enjoy torturing us with almost hints about what may happen next.  We've discovered that authors tend to have a rather prominent sadistic streak, loving it when we agonize over their stories and the long waits between chapters.

Nonetheless, we really enjoy getting the authors' insights on character motivations and tidbits about the characters' backgrounds that the short format online reads don't allow them to include in the story itself so that we better understand why they do the things they do.  Personally, that enhances my enjoyment of the read.  So, I hope you'll join in the discussion often.  We won't hold back, but we won't be too hard on you!  It's all in the spirit of getting into the story. Smile

Bonnie, welcome back!  Sorry to hear you got car sick from reading and riding.  My dad bought an RV when we were kids, so it was nothing to be sitting backwards while reading or playing games on the way to whatever destination was next.  Loving this story!

Hi JV

Thanks for the insights!

Interesting about cliffhangers... how do you feel about them in books where you have to wait for the next book to come out to find out what's going on?

I used to watch soap operas when I was in college and hated Fridays because you'd have to wait all weekend to find out what was happening on Monday.

An RV... sounds like you went a lot of places as a kid. Great way to explore!

I think I could handle reading in an RV as long as there were no hairpin turns or bumpy roads. I'm usually pretty steady when it comes to reading in the car, as long as I'm not driving. ;-)

Hi Frenchie

Thanks, I'll try to pop in as I can. It's a crazy week at work, my first week back and I have a booksigning next week in Central Florida to raise money for adult literacy. It's my fav. signing of the year and held at the Altamonte Mall with lots of other authors.

cliff hangers and adult literacy

I love cliffhangers but hate them too. LOL If anyone read my review of Dreamfever by Karen Marie Moning when i read it a little bit ago, you will totally understand! I like the idea of keeping us in suspense for what will happen next. Plus it has the added benefit of when there is an ending so totally shocking you want to scream, there is VERY little chance you'll actually forget much about the book because of the strong emotional reaction. However, when we have to wait OVER a year for the next book, it upsets me greatly having to wait so long. But I do like cliffhangers usually in spite of how much I'll rant about them when I finish said book.

Adult Literacy - I wish I could be there for that one Bonnie! I'd love to get to actually meet you in person one of these days. For about 4 years now, Richardson Library (one of the many cities making up the DFW metroplex and on the opposite of dallas from whre I live) has done a big event, Buns and Roses, with a big (approx 20) author signing and book sale to support their adult literacy program. While the food is OK, it's not the greatest for a high tea (and last year they actually ran out of tea... how does that happen AT a tea?), i still go every single year because I love what the program stands for. Then there is the fact we get to sit down and get up close and personal with whichever author is hosting our tables. I sat with Beth Cornelison from SRS this year. it was a toss up between Beth and Kay Thomas for Intrigue. I finally settled on Beth since Kay is a local author I have met a few times already. I'd love to see you at one of our Literacy things here Bonnie! They get authors from a variety of states to come out. So maybe we'll see you at one someday yet. :-)

Heck, I'm all for promoting literacy period, in any age group and have been going back and forth for over a year trying to decide if i have enough free time to get involved in a local literacy program through my library or something.

Anyow, that's a LOT of rambling to say I'm glad to hearyou say how that Literacy signing you have coming up is one of your favorites of the year.

Lynne, Draicon books, forgot one

Holiday with a Vampire III, out Dec. 1, with LInda Winstead Jones and Lisa Childs. I have a story in that book called Unwrapped that features Adrian, a vampire who was secretly in love with Sarah, the Draicon werewolf who broke his heart.

There's six green gremlins as well who dress up as Santa and sing Christmas carols. Cool

Hi All:   I don't know

Hi All:

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this.  I started reading an online story yesterday, and made a comment.  It was nice to feel involved again.

I was wondering though.  Is this the whole story we are reading online, or is this like the first couple of chapters of the published book, and if we want to read the whole thing we need to buy the book?  I notice the actual books appear to exist and this kind of confuses me.

If this is not the right place to ask this question I do apologize.

... And if I should die before I wake, please lord, throw my journal in the lake...

The online reads are

The online reads are strictly online reads.  They are not books.   However, sometimes the online reads can be a prequel to a book or part of a series of books.   Usually it will tell you in the blurb up at the top of this page whether it's part of a series or a prequel.  Cool

Thank you Papaya: Does

Thank you Papaya:

Does that mean that one could actually miss something in a series of books by not reading the online selection?

Are online aspects of an ongoing story canonical to the story, or can an author make it so?  I'm just wondering if you could miss something in a series by not belonging to the online community and reading the installments online.  In this case, would someone who buys Immortal Wolf, and has also bought the other books in this series miss anything if they didn't read this online read?  (I use the word community in this case because of the three reads I'm following thus far a lot of the same names [and icons] appear in the comments section of all of them.)

... And if I should die before I wake, please lord, throw my journal in the lake...

There's a core goup of us

There's a core goup of us (maybe you could call us the online read groupies :) that read all the online reads, then there are the followers of certain harlequin lines that come in for certain online reads.  Most online reads are stand alone even when they are part of a series.   Prequels on the other hand usually leave you hanging and wanting to read the book that follows.  If you read the blurbs on the online reads, it will tell you whether the read is a prequel or part of a series.

Hi Randus, welcome!

Glad you stopped by.

Papaya already did a great job explaining the online reads. Just wanted to add for this particular one, Seducing the Vampire is a short paranormal romance with an HEA (happily ever after). It's a stand alone story and you don't have to read any of my other books to understand what's going on.

The hero, Indigo, is a secondary character from Immortal Wolf and Enemy Lover. I wanted to tell his story and this opportunity for me as an author to write an online serial was the perfect opportunity to do so.

Happy reading, and Happy Halloween all!

Thanks Bonnie, and thanks

Thanks Bonnie, and thanks again Papaya:

You are both very kind to be so forthcoming with your help.  Thank you.  I feel comfortable already.  I've read the three current reads upto their last chapters.  I can feel myself becoming addicted to this area of eharlequin already.  It's really great to know there are nice folk here as well, and that one can be included so easily.  Thanks for making me feel welcome.

I just know I'm going to hunting for your books Bonnie.  I think I'll try tracking down Empath first:  I have this thing about chronology.

Thanks Papaya for your welcoming posts.  I just know I'm gonna like it here.

... And if I should die before I wake, please lord, throw my journal in the lake...

Randus,

Occasionally an online read will later be released as a mini-ebook, but only a few are published that way (after the online read is finished -- so you can't jump ahead of the online read by buying the book).  I'm not sure what criteria determine which ones will eventually be mini-ebooks and which won't.  (They may  release the mini-books in paperback, too, but I am not sure.  I do know that some become mini-ebooks, though.)

Bonnie, I'm enjoying the story so far.  I really like the relationship, though I must admit it's hard reading the chapter and commenting via my cell phone.  (I don't have access, right now, to my laptop.)  Still, the online reads are providing a very-much needed distraction for me right now.

I just read today's Chapter

I just read today's chapter, and I was right - this business of a chapter a week is driving me crazy.  But I enjoyed Bonnie's books so much, I figured I'd like to take part in the on line discussion this time.

Next Monday can't come soon enough!

Lynne

Thanks JV

Do you know if the e-reads are ever collected in and anthology?

I love that she can't feed from strangers.  I used to have the same thing about breaking bread with people I didn't know.  Eating is a very personal thing, and I still only like to eat with friends and family.  I really don't like banquets and in restaurants I don't like sitting close to other tables.  Nice touch.   The biggest ugly of course is eating outside, but that's a different story:  suffice to say  yucccckkk.

Nice touch Bonnie.

Randus,

As far as I know, they are not ever collected in an anthology, but perhaps your suggestion will put the bug in the ear of TPTB.  Weirder things have happened!

I just read the first 3 chapters

Very intersting story so far.  I can't help but wonder what Avril's punishment was when Indigo was banished.

Also wondering if Victor is involved in the attack.  Ummmmm...  If not, I'm sure he will be making an appearance since he wants Avril and hates Indigo.

Welcome, Randus!

LOL Lynne...

I totally empathize with the chapter a week thing. I get like that when I read a preview of a book I want to buy, and it's not for sale yet. Glad you are enjoying the story so far!
