The Billionaire’s Proxy by Yvonne Lindsay
Robyn Mackenzie needs to get Jonathan Windthorpe to sign a proxy to get the promotion she’s given everything for—including Jonathan. Jonathan’s not happy to see Robyn again, and especially not in just a business capacity. She denied their passion for her career once before, but when they become trapped in his New Zealand retreat, how long will that resolve last? "The Billionaire's Proxy" is set at the fictitious Tautara Estate located in the beautiful central North Island, home of Luc Tanner, the hero in Ms. Lindsay's upcoming August release, CLAIMING HIS RUNAWAY BRIDE.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
New Zealand-born to Dutch immigrant parents, Yvonne Lindsay always had a deep fascination with the written word (when she wasn't daydreaming!). An avid reader, Yvonne was introduced to the joy of romance books at the age of thirteen by an elderly neighbour. After many scribblings, years, secretarial and sales rep jobs, marriage to her "blind date" hero and two kids later, Yvonne heard the wonderful Harlequin Mills & Boon author Susan Napier speak at a local writer's group. She mentioned Romance Writers of New Zealand and its contact details.
Eventually she learned that to really be a writer you had to actually finish a book, so she did and won a few awards along the way, including the Romance Writers of Australia 1999 Emma Darcy Award and the Romance Writers of New Zealand 2004 Clendon Award. After thirteen years of submissions and rejections, Yvonne sold a Silhouette Desire story in 2005—a line she's always loved to read and one she's genuinely thrilled to be a part of. Yvonne remains a firm believer in the power of love and romance in all walks of life. She can be contacted via her Web site www.yvonnelindsay.com or e-mail her at yvonne@yvonnelindsay.com.

Yvonne, I'm glad to see you are with us on this one!
I am already ready for more to see what happens next.
Congrats FF on being the first to comment on this one!
Woohooo!!!!!! Yvonne in the house!!!!
Well, er, on the boards....
Great 1st chatper, gal, and I'm totally looking forward to more! Can't wait to find out what's going on with Robyn, as Jonathan sees her as a little opportunist!

At the end of the day, it's night.
Hey Yvonne,
really looking forward to this series. I already read Claiming His Runway Bride and loved Belinda and Luc's story. Really enjoyed the way he recreated their love story to get her memory back......especially the scene on their intimate walk with the canopy, ice bucket, champagne cooling, roses and pillows thrown by the clearing. It truly was decadent!!!
Hoping for alot of more of this with Jon and Robyn in the coming chapters. Whoo Hoo!!!

Great first chapter. Lots
Great first chapter. Lots of information packed in. It has me wondering if Jonathon was harder on her because they were in a relationship. I am my sister's boss and i know I have to be harder on her because if I'm not employees percieve she is getting favors for being the boss's sister. Looking forward to finding out.
I am glad I finally found this discussion. It wasn't here when I read the chapter last night. I searched all over. I can't figure out why the techs are not consistent on getting us to the chapter discussions after reading.
Glad you are hear also Yvonne. I love it when we get to interact with the author and I know some authors can't get on to the discussion either. Guess they still need to work out some pretty basic bugs on the site.
hope we can see robyn's pov

Lovin' it
Hey Yvonne. I am lovin' the first scene. It just pulled me right into Robyn and Jonathan's story. Can't wait for the next chapter.
Hi everyone!
Great to see so many comments already.
Christa, this is a daily so maybe not quite as bad for the instant gratification as a weekly online would have been! LOL!
I hope to pop in here daily, or a couple of times a day if possible.
Kim, thanks for your words about Claiming His Runaway Bride. In my first draft of The Billionaire's Proxy I had a bit more about Luc and Belinda (before their marriage) in the story but having to keep the online to around 10K (okay, I went over!) was a challenge so my references to them ended up on the cutting room floor (aka the area that used to be floor in my office.)
Papaya, you hit the nail on the head and April, you too!

Wow! Great beginning. Some of us find it hard to wait. The last daily I waited until all but the last chapter was posted. LOL, but then you can't really join in the discussions. So many choices, what's a reader to do?
Nancy
LOL, I'm too impatient and
LOL, I'm too impatient and read the chapters as soon as they are up. You do get a total different feel for what is happening when you go one chapter at a time. I think I now understand what some of my English teachers were getting at when they told us not to read ahead but only the assigned chapters! (Of course I was one of those students who loved to read so went ahead and read the whole story anyway). When you know what went on, your perception on what is happening at the time changes! I just love these discussions for that reason. Sometimes I go back and look through just to see how our POVs can change over time and with more information
Up early
Yes, I was up early today, April. Early for me at least. My youngest had training up at school at 7:00 a.m. (a totally ungodly hour for sport in my opinion.) Hard on the heels of a late night I'm a little bleary eyed I can tell you. Still, deadlines must be met.
Nancy, LOL, on your dilemma. Read piecemeal and discuss or save it all for a reading fest at the end. I suppose it depends on what demands you have on your time when you're not reading. Good luck making a decision!

I'm thinking she's not a good judge of character! Seems like she wants her promotion and that is all she is seeing. Hmmm, wonder what Jon saw in her...that we are not seeing yet! Way to keep us coming back Yvonne!
I don't care for Robyn too much!
This is very frustrating. I would love to read more -- now. So far, I don't care for Robyn too much. She knows 'something' and she is keeping it from Jon. Is her promotion that important to her? There is something else going on here with her.
I read Luc and Belinda's story. It was great! There were many times that I wanted to 'shake' Luc -- he showed poor judgment more than once. I read it in one sitting -- couldn't put it down.
I also don't care much for Robyn!
I'm with you Lidia. I think she is hiding something. I know that Jon got to her when he accused her of being Bradley's lover, and obviously she isn't. Of course, I also think she's very naive and blind to what is really going on here. I know that she will redeem herself in our eyes however, because I think she still loves Jon.
Am really looking forward to the rest of this story!
Yvonne, you already have us hooked!
catching up with you all
Waves to Bron!
Nicki, Claiming His Runaway Bride is out in Aus/NZ in September, not too long to wait
FF, she could be hopelessly naive, or she could be hopelessly stupid about human behaviour...or, she could be something else
. To be honest, I'm really beginning to sympathise with the online readers having to wait a day or even a week between chapters, because from an author's pov I just want to blurt it all out!
Papaya, maybe the question should be why would this promotion be so important to her, hmmm?
Lidia, so glad to see you enjoyed Claiming His Runaway Bride, I wanted to 'shake' Luc a time or two myself. He was hard work. I hope you (eventually) enjoy the online just as much, or more.
And Cathy P, I'm having to sit on my hands while I'm typing this so I don't give anything away. Good grief, I don't know how the other authors cope. And, just for the record, typing when you're sitting on your hands is strange. Very strange.

OK I understand her need to
OK I understand her need to gain her parents respect and build her own self esteem. Emotional abuse is just as bad as physical abuse. I can understand her need to get to the top in her field. However, if what we are seeing of Jon is honest and his opinion of Brad is true, then what she is doing is just as bad as sleeping her way to the top. She's basically letting Brad use her to get at Jon so she can get her promotion.
I think she is so single-minded in getting her promotion and proving herself to her parents that she has blinded herself to what is right and what is not! She's not getting this promotion on her own merit but she doesn't see it. Guess we have 17 more chapters for her to see the light!
BTW, I like Jon or what we have seen of him so far.
Yvonne!
Way to go in keeping us enthralled. I can see her motivation cearly now. But as Papaya said she is so blinded by the need to get the promotion she is not seeing outside the box. If she loved Jon as much as she said she does, she could have got herself another job else where and pleased her parents and herself. Oh wait if she did that we wouldn't have this story. LOL
But also surely she must see that Brad is just using her as well. He'll do anything to annoy his brother, what better than luring his lover away!
Is there more to Jon's need for the break? What is the history between the two brothers?
Can't wait for tomorrow.
BTW thanks for the heads up about your book Yvonne. I looked at the Desires being released in Aus in August and want to get everyone of them! Now I have a book I need for September too! Oh where is the time to read them all!

This heroine has issues, but she is not seeing clearly. Why is it we can see so clearly when it's not our lives on the line?

popping in
Papaya—I do hope that Robyn manages to redeem herself for you. But while Brad might be using her, maybe she has her own agenda?
Nicki—yep, it’s all about story and not about the ‘ifs’ that drive us in our real worlds. But then everyone’s real world is different, isn’t it?
FF—I don’t mean to cause you torment. Besides, crazy is good, yes?
But yeah, your comment is profound. Why is it we can see things so clearly when it’s not our own lives? Degrees of separation. That’s one of the things I find so much fun about writing. I can lock down my ‘oh for goodness sake no-one would do that’ gene and really plumb the depths of people who might choose to make different choices than I do, or those who don’t have the luxury of choice.

I think, as in most stories,,,,
this will come down to a lack of communication between Jonathan and Robyn. Did she make her dreams/goals known to him? Did he not listen to her about wanting to accomplish more than just being an assistant to him? Was their attraction to each other so strong they thought they were making themselves clear, but not really talking enough for clarity to occur?
I have a theory of what will happen in this story, but I'm not going to post it here. I'll just see if I'm right down the line!
Hugs,
April
At the end of the day, it's night.
Papaya, I agaree with you
Robyn is focused on one thing only -- that promotion -- to prove to her parents that she 'is' successful. Though I have to wonder how she measures success. She is willing to give up everything just to prove something to her parents -- that is sad.
That being said, she has to be quite naive or at least oblivious not to see that Bradley is 'using' her. If he were truly only interested in her skills he wouldn't have made her breaking up with Jon a requirement. That should have clued her in that something wasn't quite right.
I just hope that she doesn't end up doing anything else to hurt Jon. It is obvious that for him their relationship was more than a 'fling.' Did she even give him a chance to explain that to her?
April -- you're right about communication playing a key role here.
Lidia
The build up is great and
The build up is great and Robyn is turning into a great 'heroine you love to hate'. I'm enjoying the story.
Nancy
The plot thickens!
Yvonne, you are definitely reeling us in on this one!
Now we know that gaining her parents respect (through verbal abuse by them) is very important to her. In fact, it's so important that she dumped the man she obviously still loves in order to get a promotion from a no good %&^*()&(*)*)*_)*___ (me cussing). Bradley is definitely using her to get back at Jon for something, and I don't think she realizes it because she wants that promotion so much. I still think that she knows more than what she is letting on, though.
I'm really enjoying this story, and I want the next chapter right now, please!
BTW, Yvonne, please don't try to type sitting on your hands. You won't be able to type and then we'd all miss your wonderful stories! I can tell that I'm going to have to get more of your books!
LOL Yvonne, it does seem
LOL Yvonne, it does seem she has her own agenda... get that promotion at all costs!
There are quite a few more chapters for her to be redeemed. We shall see how it goes. Like I said elsewhere, it is possible your opinion/perception can change chapter by chapter in these online reads as you get more information on the characters! Oh yeah, and the little blurb on the top of these discussions about the storyline can skew your view also!
That said, I am loving this read and you keep reeling me in for the next chapter! I think I will go look for Luc's story.

It's weird she valued her promotion above her relationship with Jon, almost gives you the impression she was using him for her own gain and not considering his feelings at all.
Wonder if he'll sign the proxy over when he still doesn't know all the ins and outs of the meeting.
So you going to leave us all hanging by a thread tomorrow Yvonne?

I don't like her either.
I'm still liking the story and I like Jon, and there are 16 more chapters to "redeem" Robyn.
I usually like to read books all in one go if I have the time. This chapter by chapter reading can really tug you all kinds of directions with the characters! I'm still to impatient to wait until the end to read it through and I love the discussions! You get all kinds of POVs on the lead characters.
hanging threads etc

Conflict of interest
Actually, Lidia, I can buy Bradley's insistence that she end her relationship with Jon to be his PA as a legitimate work request on the conflict of interest basis, especially since he and Jon are struggling with each other for control of the direction the company will take. (Doesn't make me like Bradley at all and certainly doesn't make me understand why she'd agree, but I can buy why her continued relationship with Jon would pose a conflict of interest. You can't have someone loyal to the "enemy" working in your camp.)
And I suspect we're going to see Robyn using sex to manipulate Jon to sign that agreement (which is even WORSE than in our previous daily because the motive is career advancement rather than love). I can only hope if it happens it will open her eyes to what's important.
What I can't deal with is that she "loved" Jon but was just willing to give that up so that she could achieve her goal and prove herself to her parents. I'll grant you that I have great parents who were nothing but supportive, so perhaps I can't understand, but I don't see how you can just decide to throw over a person you love for a job. Is it me?
Of course, Robyn should have figured out that Bradley is a jerk as soon as HE started hitting on her and should have already realized her mistake. Some people are slow learners.
Needless to say, I'm not feeling the love for old Robyn right now. Perhaps I'll learn something more about her that will turn that around.

You made valid points JV
So far, nothing that Robyn has said or done makes me 'like' her. Now she wants him to sign his proxy over to her -- why should he trust her? He has no way of knowing how she would vote. Since her promotion is so important to her, she probably would use his proxy the way Bradley wants her to and not vote the way that Jon would.
After all this time she still hasn't figured out how bad things are between Bradley and Jon. She didn't realize that the reason why Bradley called the meeting while Jon is away so that he can make some changes, vote on things without Jon 'blocking' him. The only way that can happen is if he has Jon's proxy or whoever has it votes along with Bradley -- not against him. I can't see Robyn voting against Bradley since her promotion in riding on this.
In many ways I dislike her even more than the heroine in the previous daily.
I think ..... Robyn needs
I think .....
Robyn needs to grow up. Parents' approval? She needs to develop her own self-worth and that won't happen if she's constantly trying to please others.
Parents should love their children unconditionally.
So far all my sympathy is with Jon. I don't much like Robyn.
I still don't like her
From experience, I know how abusive parents can be (both physically and mentally). Robyn's an adult now, though, and shouldn't feel like she needs their approval.
I think that Bradley is like a snake waiting to strike, and Robyn should be smart enough to know the differences between him and Jon. Bradley is just using her to get to Jon and Jon is in love with her and she is in love with Jon.
Yvonne, I know that somehow she will redeem herself in our eyes. I can hardly wait for the rest of this story.
I have a feeling that you'll have an interesting cliffhanger for us tomorrow.
If nothing else, Yvonne,
If nothing else, Yvonne, you can be assured that many of us are still reading the story despite not liking Robyn. So far she has demonstrated questionable values and motives. Lots of comments have basically said she should grow up and not depend on her parents approval, but saying that and being able to do it are two different matters. Parental approval is a strong motivator and not every child grows up with unconditional love. The desire for it is pretty universal and very powerful, not matter a person's age.
I still think it is a good story and has the potential for being a powerful story, despite my feelings about Robyn. But right now I am wondering what Jonathan's motivation is regarding Robyn? Can't wait to read the next chapter and find out.
Nancy
Robyn is not earning any
Robyn is not earning any points in my book. She is so in to her promotion she is blind to everything else. She doesn't deserve the promotion or to work for Windcorp if she is suspicious of Bradley's motives yet won't even tell Jon her suspicions. So what if she breaches her contract? If she believes that what Bradley is doing will be bad for Windcorp. but was willing to get Jon's proxy for Brad, she shouldn't be working there. And what makes her think that someone with Brad's work ethic will give her the promotion? If she doesn't get the promotion the proxy does her no good.
Poor Jon having to be stuck with her for days! Beginning to wonder what he saw in her!
Yvonne you're a good storyteller to get me all riled up about your characters! 15 more chapters to redeem Robyn in my eyes!
Not Sure I agree
Papaya. I can see where Robyn is coming from. She is stuck between a rock and a hard place - well I think so anyway.
Yes she still is focussed on the promotion - most annoying I agree but having said that, she wants the promotion so she can thwart Bradley. If she tells Jon and breaches her confidentiality clause it could be career suicide for her - she can't be trusted to keep company goings on to herself.
Maybe if she does tell Jon they could come to some agreement/plan that doesn't compromise her. Oh what a dilemma.
Looking forward to see how they deal with their 'forced' cohabitation.
Until Monday! Great going Yvonne!

Well, at least we know now
Well, at least we know now that she is not totally obtuse. She has hints of suspicions of Bradley. But she is thinking about being a solo hero that rides in to save the day. Real life doesn't work like that very often. Maybe in your story, Yvonne, you will be able to make it work.

Glad to be wrong
At least she was righteously indignant that Jon thought her willing to sleep with him to get his proxy. I'm glad to be wrong about that.
Of course, she will sleep with him eventually, but I'd much rather it be because she realizes her mistake in leaving the man in favor of the job.
I agree she's being naive to think she can single-handedly "fix" things. I'm guessing Bradley won't give her that promotion until he sees that Jon signed the proxy over to HIM. So, I'm thinking she'd better forget about the confidentiality clause and her promotion and spill the beans. Besides, if she thought she was in love with Jon, surely she knows him well enough to know he's honorable and trustworthy. She knows he has Windcorp's best interests in mind, so he wouldn't be motivated to let anyone know she had told him.
Adopt a shelter pet. www.shamrockpets.com

I doubt that Bradley
has ever intended to give her a promotion. I think he lied just to hurt Jon and also hoping she would sleep with him as an added bonus.
At least we know now that Robyn does have a conscience and wants to try to do what's right. However, she still is being very naive to think that she can help Jon and his company by having the proxy turned over to her. She needs to just tell Jon what her suspicions are. If things are that bad, he needs to know about it.
Looking forward to Monday and the next 15 chapters, Yvonne!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
She may be stuck between a
She may be stuck between a rock and a hard place, but it is of her own making. She already committed career suicide by first sleeping with then dumping Jon with no explanation. It seems that Jon and Bradley must have a pretty equal amount of shares since, Jon cannot control Bradley and Bradley needs Jon's votes.
To top that off, she first tried to get the proxy for Bradley before she changed her tune and tried to get Jon to give it to her. Why should Jon trust her motives... I really doubt that Bradley is going to give her the promotion and if she is supiscious of his motives then she should suspect that she may not get her promotion with or without the proxy. She may hope that if Jon gives the proxy to her to vote it, then Bradley will have to promote her if he wants her to vote (I assume even with the proxy she would still have to be a jr.exec. to vote).
Even if she does get her jr. exec. promotion through Bradley will she want to continue to work in a company where one of her bosses is a former lover that she dumped! She is not seeing clearly. Her need to prove to her parents that she can make it is blinding her to the problems she is going to be facing.
In my opinion, her best bet at this point is to spill the beans and take the high ground. I don't believe a confidentiality clause should keep someone quiet if they suspect wrong doing.
Ok, having said that... it's only been one afternoon and reading this chapter by chapter gives you a whole different perspective of the characters then when you read the whole thing or in bigger chunks.
You rock Yvonne, I do like your story, you have me rooting for their relationship (jon and robyn) yet annoyed as hell with Robyn. Needless to say, I'll be back for more torture next week
