The Dark Side of Night by Cindy Dees
A clear and present desire...
In March, readers were enthralled with the exciting online read, H.O.T. Mountain. This week, Cindy Dees is back to chat with you about the first book in the series, THE DARK SIDE OF NIGHT. Of course, I'm sure she'll tell us a bit about the other books in the series to wet our appetites.
ABOUT CINDY
Cindy Dees started flying airplanes while sitting in her dad's lap at the age of three and got a pilot's license before she got her driver's license. At age 15, she dropped out of high school and left the horse farm in Michigan where she grew up to attend the University of Michigan.
After earning a degree in Russian and East European studies, she joined the U.S. Air Force and became the youngest female pilot in the history of the Air Force. She flew supersonic jets, VIP airlift, and the C-5 Galaxy, the world's largest airplane. She also worked part-time gathering intelligence. During her military career, she traveled to 42 countries on five continents, was detained by the KGB and East German secret police, got shot at, flew in the first Gulf War, met her husband and amassed a lifetime's worth of war stories.
Her hobbies include professional Middle Eastern dancing, Japanese gardening and medieval reenacting. She started writing on a one-dollar bet with her mother and was thrilled to win that bet with the publication of her first book in 2001. She loves to hear from readers and can be contacted at www.cindydees.com.

Howdy gang!
Hey, I just wanted to be the first to say welcome, and I'm looking forward to hearing from y'all about my new series. Am looking forward to answering your questions and giving you some of the inside scoop on the background for the series and sneak previews of where it's heading.
So...on with the show!
Cindy
Hey Cindy - this was an awesome book
Apologies if the info is available, my brain is mush at the moment,
how many books are in the series, when can we expect Nos 3 - ? (I
already know and am impatiently awaiting for the one in August)
and even if this isn't the spot, while you're here, when is the next Medusa/Charlie Squad SRS out?
Keep up the good work

Welcome...

Welcome back to the forum...
Please accept my apologies for not welcoming you this morning. For some reason, I couldn't get online and today is first day of school, so I just didn't get the chance to log on at work.
I'm in the process of reading THE DARK SIDE OF NIGHT. What an exciting adrenalin filled opening sequence.

Upcoming books
Howdy Sadhbh!
The next H.O.T. Watch book was delivered at the end of February and is awaiting a slot date.
The 3rd H.O.T. Watch book also happens to be a Medusa book...and tells Kat's story at long last. It's due in New York this week and is a matter of a few scenes from done. It also awaits a slot date for publication.
Just so we're all clear, here, my August book is neither a H.O.T. Watch book nor a Medusa story. It's part of a really fun three-book continuity I did with Nina Bruhns and Sheri Whitefeather that the three of us dubbed the "Sex on the Beach" Trilogy. It's set in Fiji and involves a serial killer with a thing for pairs of lovers on beaches, lots of tropical sun, sand and surf, and three amazing couples.
I hasten make that distinction, because I got a scathing review recently from someone who's read a few of my military books and then got reader whiplash when she read THE LOST PRINCE...which isn't the slightest bit military. Sigh. So hard to balance what readers expect and what I enjoy writing sometimes...
Let the record show I'm yet to feel at all trapped in the military stories I've done. Actually, making sure I stay that way was part of the impetus for starting the H.O.T. Watch series. Pretty much anything goes with the group I've set up. There are both men and women, military members and civilians, and they have the whole of the Caribbean and South America to play with for stories. If I can't stay entertained in that world for a while, something's very wrong with me!
I was looking to do something open-ended with lots of room for a variety of fun stories, and voila! The H.O.T. Watch was born!
Tomorrow, I'll tell y'all how the bat cave came into existence....
And now, it's time for me to head back to Kat and Jeff's story and the big finale...<cue the scary ending music...>
See you guys tomorrow!
Cindy
Oh, and regarding Charlie Squad
Howdy again Sadhbh,
Hah. Now there's a challenge...spell your name correctly twice in a row...sheesh!
Back to your question. I just so happen to have pitched a Charlie Squad book recently to my editor and there may be more of the guys in the not-too distant future. Of course, I'll still have to put together a proposal and sell the book, but my editor was definitely interested in hearing more about the story. Am psyched at that possibility!
Okay, now really back to work...
Cindy
Hey Cindy - maybe we should do this more often
you'll soon be blithely typing my name as quickly and effortlessly as I do
Sorry I got the August thing wrong
Looking forward to all of those stories and more Charlie Squad TOO
colour me a happy little readaholic
Now if only you could write 'em as fast as I can read 'em

Writing fast
Faster? Ugh...I've written four books in eight months, I have a book due this week, another one June 1st, and another one after that on Aug 15th. And you want 'em faster?! I'm not the Bionic Woman, Sadhbh...
But for you...I'll try. How's that for a deal?
Cindy
I'll gladly take
I'll gladly take whatever you can put out, whether it's military, romance, sci-fi. I've liked everything you've written so I'm always ready for more.
I loved the way you started this book with him running looking for the boat. I could just picture his face when there before his eyes was the pink thing. Too funny, I had to stop reading for awhile just to get myself back under control.

Cindy - I'm ROTFLOL
because if you COULD write them as fast as I read them, you'd be writing over eight hundred books a year
The taxman would love you for sure
DS wants me to put the "crying child" icon
I've tried to explain that it's not topical, and what does he want now

800?!!!
Oh my gosh, Sadhbh,
Barnes & Noble needs to erect a statue to you in their corporate headquarters. That's awesome...man, and I thought I read a lot before I started writing. I doubt I ever topped 300 books in a year.
Of course, nowadays, I'm embarassed to admit how little I read. But if I have a choice between writing on my own books or reading someone else's, the deadline usually wins. I do still love to read, though.
Today, I'm editing the third H.O.T. Watch book, which also happens to be a Medusa book. I decided there wasn't enough action in the story and I'm going back and putting more in. Just wouldn't be a good Medusa story without a few good chase scenes...maybe this book needs an explosion, too...hmm....
Well, you get back to your reading, Sadhbh...wouldn't want to slow you down, here. Later today when I need a break from working, I'll tell you how the bat cave came to be in the H.O.T. Watch.
Catchya then!
