The Changeover!!
This one needs lots of prayers! For the sanity of the folks behind the scenes, for the sanity of the hosties, for the sanity of the members as they figure out our new platform.
Dream... boldly going where no hosty has gone before...
New Community
I am praying that this will be accepted and enjoyed by the present residents and many new ones will join us in this wonderful adventure.

Amen to that!
I think it would be great to expand our community, and I think this new forum is set up to do just that.
Dream... boldly going where no hosty has gone before...
I have a feeling there will
I have a feeling there will be a lot of screaming when this change over goes live. I pray for all the hosties to have the patience to deal with it all. I pray that the techies survive the madness. Dream, good luck!

But I think once folks get used to it, it'll be a good thing. My first impression was... HUH??? And now I'm having way too much fun.
Dream... boldly going where no hosty has gone before...
I am not screaming, I am
I am not screaming, I am simply lost. I think this will be wonderful but I know I'll feel a little lost until I sort it out.

Prayer request and question
I had a shocking call yesterday from the Rev. of my church, nothing bad, just shocking. I usually only go to church when I'm really feeling the need or something special is happening, such as a program envolving my dd or a holiday. While my dh was on his year long chemo treatments, we took Sundays as a day to rest and do nothing. Which is why it was such a shock for the Rev. to call me and ask if I would consider becoming the new Sunday School Teacher and Director to replace the one who has to leave to take care of her ailing mother. He said I have 2 weeks to decide. He said that he thought I would be perfect for the job because of the way he could see my DD was. My DD is special. She has the heart of an angel. It was nothing I did. We just got lucky. My DD knows the books of the bible better than I do. I'm faithful and love God, I'm just not a faithful church goer. Anyways, please pray that I make the right decision. And, my question is, "How would you feel having someone like me teaching your children in a Sunday School setting?" .
Curator for Harlequin Historicals My Space , Facebook,
Teaching Sunday School
Hi Kim,
I can relate to your dilemma. I am also faithful and love God. I do attend church regularly ( most of the time). I had quit going to church for a while. You know how it is. You miss a couple of Sundays, then all of a sudden you just don't go anymore. Well that's what happened to me a few years ago. When my son was three, I knew I needed to get him into church so he would be trained up right as the Bible says. I just made up my mind and started going back. Now, three years later I'm there almost every Sunday. Our church is super small. There are only handful of children in our church, a few elderly men ( very few) and a few more elderly women. A handful of us in the thirties, fourties ect. Anyway, my son started attended Sunday school three years ago, but the Sunday school teacher (who happens to be my cousin) lost her daughter back in September. (She was fifteen and had all sorts of medical problems- paralyzed in a wheel chair, lived on oxygen and had learning difficulties, but she had a heart of gold and loved church and God. She loved Sunday school and since all the children were in the same class her mother was the only teacher. After her daughter died, the mother has not been able to teach Sunday school. I was approached about taking over the class. ( I teach third grade, so I know about kids and learning) but I wasn't so sure about Sunday school. I selfishly really didn't want anymore obligations, but I also knew I wanted my son to go to Sunday School and since I was basically the only one even remotely considering it, I decided to give it a try. Now, I can truly say I absolutely love it. The kids -though young and few in number- really enjoy coming. To make a very long story short, I think you should certainly pray about it, then if it feels right go ahead and do it. If my child were in your class, I certainly wouldn't have any qualms about it. Besides, this may be God's way of getting you back into church.
You know He does have his reasons for everything. I'm sure he laid your name on the Reverand's heart or he wouldn't have called you. Sorry this is so long. It's just my two cents.

Definitely something to pray about
It's a hard decision, and it's up to you and God whether or not you're the right person for it.
If it helps, though, I go to church pretty sporadically and I still go once a month to work in the nursery. I guess it's my way of giving back, even though God and I tend to do our own thing.
Save the Date! You won't want to miss our annual open house event on December 11th!
Sunday school
Kim, I have done it and really enjoyed it. I'm even thinking of doing it again next year because I retired from teaching. I'm a teacher at heart.
I will pray you make the right decision, whatever that is.

Hi Ladyewolfe
Hi Ladewolfe and congrats for de-lurking. I haven't had a chance to put much in my bio. I live in Western NY about 50 miles south of Buffalo.
Thank you everyone for answering my question. It will all help me in making this decision. It is a very small church so keeping the kids involved and loving it is very important for the future of the church. It is going to take a lot praying to figure out if I could help or hinder. I'm still in a low state of shock, lol.

Hello everyone. Its my
Hello everyone. Its my first day here on the new boards. Praying for everyone.
PTL - my student teaching is going very well (5th grade). I have only finished 7 days and it looks like I am going to start doing all the teaching Monday. Winter quarter is short, so I have to accomplish what is normallly done in 12 weeks in only 8 1/2 weeks so she is letting me jump right in. The teacher I am working with is fabulous. God is good!
But please pray for me. As a single mom, I come home and I am exhausted by the time the kids are in bed and I have prepared for the next day. I have a lot of paper work to do for my college in regards to my student teaching - plus my computer is still dead (I am on some one else's right now). Please pray that I somehow have the time and energy to get it all done!

Hey guys, I was just emailing Hope and she cannot get on the site. Not sure if it's her server/provider or what.
I've told her to check her cookies, etc. because I didn't know what else to do.
Meanwhile, she says, "Anyway, I miss you, I miss everybody, and I miss eharl! Tell everybody I'll be there when I can get there! Thanks for checking on me! Oh, Mom has started playing the keyboard again for hand therapy!!!!!
Please pray for Hope.

prayer requests
I used to read this thread rather sporadically, but decided I'd try to be better at it with the new boards!
Sunday School---that's a big decision. I think we all go through times where we 'fall off' honestly, I thought I would NEVER do that. But after my Dad passed away, my best friend moved to another country, and my dog moved to another state, and I lost my job all within months of each other, it was just too much upheaval and I felt so disconnected and irritated I became one of those. It is important to be in church regularly for the community worship of God, we are called to it. As humans there are times that something knocks us off the path.....this might be your call to get back on the path, back into the community of believers and the regular worship of God.
Anita Mae, please relay to Hope that we miss her and I'm praying for her and her mom and hope we get to see her soon!!

Any ideas for Hope?
You're welcome, Janet.
This is what Hope is up against: "I can't get in! I was just telling Margaret earlier, I've tried practically everything, but it just won't load. I've had it trying to load all day today, yesterday, day before yesterday.... I can't remember the last time I DID get in.........and I have challenge blogs ready to post, too.
It sits there for the longest time "loading," and then the page comes up saying that it cannot load the page.....
I have it trying to load at this very moment (for the last five hours, off and on, pausing to eat). At least it did let me get in and fix my password, but the community pages just refuse to load. I'm so frustrated. I have had trouble with my ISP all week. It's slower than Christmas (old saying; actually Christmas came and went pretty quickly last year!), and sometimes I have to refresh to get something to load, even my e-mail. Mom and I are talking about switching to the service from the local phone company."

Lindaloo
Hi Lindaloo,
I can relate to you. I'm a single mom too and I teach third graders. (yes, they have attitudes even this young LOL.) and I know what you mean about being exhausted. I spend most of my day trying to curb unexceptable behavior ( and as the older I get- more and more behavior becomes unexceptable to me
) and the other part of the day trying to instill some skills only to have the children hold the skills for the moment and look blankly at me the next day) Go figure. I also started tutoring two days a week after school for two hours ( gotta pay the bills ya know). So coming home to help my own child with homework is less than exciting. Some days I can't even read a book much less focus on writing one, but I have to if I ever want to really make it) I do incorporate a family game night for me and my son each week so he doesn't feel like "mommy" is always busy and tired. Unfortunately, I incorporated the family game night the same day as my duty day. Yikes! Talk about tired. But, I'll keep you in my prayers. It will get easier, I know it's overwhelming right now. Just hang in there!

I understand being tired. As a working mom, I totally relate. Not only do I do this, but I work during tax season preparing taxes. Of course, during the off-season, I teach taxes, so I work mostly year-round. Yep, busy season is starting for me. It's hard with kiddos, so I'll be praying for you.
As for helping Hope, first off, let her know that we do have others with the same issue and tech is working on a solution. However, she (and anyone else who can't get on) can try the following.
1. Clear your cache
2. Make sure all of your eHarlequin cookies are deleted. This program is highly dependent on cookies, and we're finding that some people have cookies that have been corrupted. So delete those guys, then re-log in to get the new cookies.
3. Do a hard refresh. To do that, you click ctrl and refresh at the same time.
Unfortunately, we've found that folks may need to do these things more than once to make it work. We're not sure why. Try those things and see what happens. If it still doesn't work, have her (or anyone else) email me letting me know what they've done, and what the result was. We've been logging them and are hoping to find a solution soon.
Save the Date! You won't want to miss our annual open house event on December 11th!

Teaching Sunday School
Okay, my 2 cents worth:
I teach Sunday school for half a dozen kids from 3 to 9. Used to be up to age 12 but we finally found another teacher for the older kids.
Sometimes I love it! Especially when one of the younger ones 'gets it'. I love it when you ask them a question and they yell out 'Jesus'. I feel the shivers to see that look in their eyes. I love listening to them pray.
But sometimes when the weather is cold and the roads might be icy (I'm a winter driving wimp), I just want to stay home instead of driving the 40 mins to church. I can't, though because it's my turn to teach Sunday school. That's when it's not fun.
But at the end of the day, even on those days I didn't really want to go, I am so glad I did.

Could you please tell me how to count to ten in Swedish? I took a Swedish course in college about 20 years ago and can only remember a few words. It really bothers me that I can't remember the numbers. I can vaguely remember how to say Thank you and ice cream, LOL. I was only in Junior High when my mother let me take the course and I scored a high C. I was proud of that back then. Ett, två, tre, fyra, fem, sex, sju, åtta, nio, tio. And Tack and glass are important words to know too!

ks - I'll be praying for you as a teacher. And I'll be praying that the kids have patience while you figure out if this is what God has planned for you.
Remember, if you find out after awhile that it's just not working out, you can always withdraw. At least you would have 'stepped out of your box' to see what the Lord has in store for you. There are many that just sit back and wait, ignoring 'the call' and not bothering to check if they heard it right.
