Dream... boldly going where no hosty has gone before...

Hi Dream, I wanted to make a

Hi Dream, I wanted to make a post on the new Historical line room but I wasn't able. Is that because it is in the tire kicking stage or is that because of something else? I've encountered it in other areas where no one has started the room yet. I haven't been able to make the first comment anywhere.

Harlequin Historicals My Space ,
Facebook,
, Good Reads, and Shelfari

No room at the inn

hahahaha I'm so punny. Yes, it's because there's not a room in there. There is a thread on the main steeple hill page for it, though, so that's where you should be posting.

From what I understand, the new organization is that the new threads go on the main page and the ongoing threads go inside the folder.

But let me know what you think, because organization is one of the things we want to know about.

Dream... boldly going where no hosty has gone before...

2 questions

I have 2 questions on the new site:

First, is there a spell check option? The old site used to underline miss-typed words automatically, but I cannot seem to find an option here.

Second--when I click on a thread, it always takes me to the first post, so I have to scroll through and figure out what's new. Is there a setting to have the first unread post come to the top?

Thanks,

Good questions!

#1... unfortunately, we don't, however, a lot of browsers, such firefox and safari automatically have a spell check thing that'll highlight your misspelled words.

#2... part of this is a bug that we're working on. However, if you see the place where it says X new messages, click on that instead of the discussion title, and it should bring you to the new messages without having to scroll through

 Hope that helps!

Qtn 3??

Thanks for the quick reply! Now I have another question

#3--Earlier this morning I used a color font, but now, even though it shows on the typing page as colored, it changes to the default color when I post.

And my firefox isn't giving me any spell checker here, though it did on the old forums. Wahh! Does anyone happen to know if there is a setting I need to click? Would this be question 4 or question 1.1?

Blessings,

I'm sorry Barbara...

You've exceeded your question limit for the day.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I have no idea what question to call it, but it's all good, because we're working hard to make sure this all works for everyone.

Okay, so let's hit it then.

#3... from what I've seen, others are having this problem, so I'm thinking it's a bug they must be working on. As soon as I hear anything different, I'll be sure to let you know.

# 4/1.1 Not sure on this one. Scott, tech guru that he is, is the one who gave me that tidbit, and now that you mention it, I've deliberately misspelled words in Firefox to see what's up, and you're right, it doesn't work. So let me head back to the drawing board and see what else we can do. Might not be til tomorrow, though, because he just waved bye at me via IM a bit ago.

Sorry I didn't have a potential solution for you this time, but we're working on it.

Hey Barbara...

I'm told color is fixed, so please try it again and let me know. I have different controls than you, so sometimes things that work for me aren't working for you.

It's a go on the color!

It's a go on the color! Don't know exactly why, but I like typing in green.

Since I have exceded my question quota, I guess I'll wait 'till next week to ask where to find details on the Book Challenge.

tech issue

Dream -- can you pass this on the the techies?

You know how when you click on the "new" in a thread title it takes you to the spot in the thread where the new posts are? And how the new posts have a nice red "new" marked in the corner? It works great except... it is not working on the "Special Event: Meet the authors and editors of Love Inspired Historical" thread for some reason. Even though I click on "new", it always opens up at post number 1 and there are no red "new" marks on any of the posts.  I'm using firefox, btw.

Thanks!

Sadly...

That's one of the kinks they're still working on. I know they're aware of it and are trying to get it fixed. It seems to be a problem on all the discussions with multiple pages.

Thanks for letting me know, though. It helps to have so many folks willing to test the waters and help us find solutions.

Heyla Dream,

I saw that Jillian has written an epi to the online read (Love Inspired Historical). In case we can't find it, could you post a link to the epi in the online discussion thread when the epi is posted? Thanks.

Forgive me

but I'm a little slow and sometimes miss out on announcements and the like.

Has Steeple Hill Cafe as a separate series been discontinued? I noticed that there hasn't been a new one since January but then noticed this week that Judy Baer's newest Cafe book is being released under Steeple Hill Women's Fiction and previously they'd stick Cafe books in with LI occasionally. What's up with that? It's confusing and I end up missing out on the authors I look for.Undecided

I guess maybe if I hung out on the SH threads more often I might know these things. Embarassed

I'll double check

Jana,

Let me see what I can find out for you. The one in the bookstore is actually a re-release, but in my lovely new subscription box the postwoman brought is a brand-new cafe book with the cafe label. I don't know if they're putting it under the women's fiction or cafe section, but there are definitely more cafe books in the works.

Dream

Steeple Hill Cafe

Jana, I received an answer from Krista and then forgot to post it. Embarassed

So here's what she says:

"We're still doing Cafe. The Judy Baer was a Cafe title, we've just changed the format of the Cafes to mass market.

The Steeple Hill Cafe program itself is a subbrand. That means that the overarching brand is Steeple Hill Women's Fiction, and Cafe has always been a sub-section of that.

We do still do the occasional Cafe title in LI, but those are always chick-lit romances and are the standard LI format and price point."

I hope that helps!

A Little Advice or Opinion Help Please?

I am spending way too much time having fun at this site like I have never seen a book in my life or something??? Anyway, I love eharlequin! I have really missed out for a long time on the fun of reading these books! Well, at least, I received some books 2 weeks ago, & found out this was what was missing in my life!! Laughing hehe. I am so caught up in reading these books now! Good thing I am a middle aged grandmother stuck at home anyway, huh?

Ok, I have had a blast at the site reading about all of the different books, titles, author pages, etc..

But, here is what I need to know:

What books or authors have a series of books that relate to each other? I love to read books that are all part of one main story running together.

I don't care what kind of series. It can be any author.

I do tend to like Steeple Hill books, but I love all of the romance novels, too.

So, if you can give me the author of a series of themed type books or the names of the books - PLEASE let me know! I am patiently waiting!

Thanks! I am also interested in finding books that may have middle aged or mature women (or grandma's) as the character.

ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

If you like Steeple Hill and suspense try the Reunion Revelations series.

Great question

Betsy, that's a great question, and we have a lot of books that fit the bill. Definitely check out the Reunion Revelations books, although you will have to move quickly... the march book is already sold out.

The new miniseries, Homecoming Heroes, starts next month.

There's also some great ones, like the Dropped Stitches books by Janet Tronstad, Cheryl Wyatt's Pararescue Jumper books, Robin Caroll's Bayou books, Jillian Hart's McKaslin Clan books, and Arlene James has just started a new one, Eden, OK that launched with a recent online read. Her first full-length story in the series is out now.

I'll put my thinking cap on about the older heroines and see what I come up with.

Older heroines

Betsy -- if you want to see a grandma heroine, try Dry Creek Courtship, coming out in September 08 -- the main character is Mrs. Hargrove (a secondary character in many of my Dry Creek books -- the editors grew so fond of her they wanted to see 'her' story).

Thanks Janet & Dream & Ellen!

I just figured out how to get back to my original question here. LOL! I wanted to say thanks to you Janet & to Dream & Ellen!

I have noted all of your ideas. Ellen I am looking at the series you told me about.

Thanks Janet for your information on Dry Creek Courtship coming out soon. I will definitely read that! I am now at your website & I am excited to read all about you & your books - anxious to get my hands on some of them & start reading!

And, Dream - I am looking through this site at your ideas here, too. Thankyou for sharing! What a big help!

While I am here, I was curious if you can tell me any particular books or authors or harlequin "type" of books that may have middle aged women in them? Or, even grandmothers? I assume there are a few with central characters who are not just young 20 something's? That would be great fun for me to read a romance or fiction that actually has a 40 or 50 year old woman as the main character!

Thanks!

Betsy

Janet -

Hey!

Well, I sent my husband out to the local flea market this morning & he found 2 of your books for me to read while I wait on others I am ordering! So, I now have At Home in Dry Creek & An Angel in Dry Creek!

I was so excited & he did a great job of hunting them down! He said he found a lady from Warner Robins, GA who had a ton of books on her table, & she helped him locate the ones written by you for me.

I guess I will be tied up reading for a couple of days now. :)

Just an observation! http://community.eharlequin.com/content/just-observation  by researchdiva on July 10th, 2008, 11:45pm Add new comment

Sometimes it seems that the gap between continued plots is so long in
the SteepleHill Suspense series, that it is difficult to begin reading.
It would help to a brief prologue or a smaller gap between books.

I'm confused.  I think the suspense continuity series are all scheduled to have a new book each month. Unless they released them all the same time, they can't get any faster.  If authors have individual series, those might lag.

Good point, Janet.

The suspense continuity comes out once a month January-June. Then they do a Love Inspired continuity July-December.  Different authors have continuities but those release dates will depend on what's contracted.

Hi Dream

not sure where to post this as I can't post to rogue angel but has anyone seen the listing on amazon.com for a book coming out next monday titled Rogue Angel: Teller of Tall Tales? It is not by Alex or eharlequin but is supposed to be an Anja Creed book about Mark Twain.

We sent your question to someone in one of our other departments and this is what he said:

We've licensed the Rogue Angel series to a comic book publisher, IDW Publishing, and Teller of Tall Tales is their first graphic novel based on the RA series. So it's not an actual RA novel from Gold Eagle.

Hope that helps!
