Love Inspired Historicals!

Cheryl St.John here.  I'm delighted to have contracted a historical for this exciting new line!  The working title of my book is Song of the Mountain, and I hope it turns into a series.  That's my plan anyway.  The story isn't finished yet, but I'm looking forward to reading the first books coming out soon.

So, let's get acquainted.

Cheryl's new book/series

Hey Cheryl, I'm looking forward to reading your new book since I've enjoyed all the ones I've read of yours so far.Smile

I also love series books but because my memory is short, I save them until I get the whole series then read them together. It's more fun that way but it's a terrible wait when they're issued months/years apart. Frown

Love Inspired Historical launch

I was lost for a while but found this site again. I think. I don't know what happened to the previous posts, either, so I'll repeat myself. My first LIH is FRONTIER COURTSHIP, March 2008. The cover is up on Amazon and on my website, ValerieHansen.com. It's absolutely gorgeous. I don't think I've ever had a prettier cover and I've had some gorgeous ones.

My second LIH is WILDERNESS COURTSHIP which you can look for in Aug. 2008. I have two more contracted but since I haven't written them yet, we'll all have to be surprised together!

I also tried to add a photo. Hope it worked,

Later,

Cheryl Wondered when I'd get

Cheryl

Wondered when I'd get another book from  my favorite historical  author and glad to know you're writing for this line.  Will you still be writing for Harlequin Historical?  And is this your next book or can we expect something else first?

So glad everyone made it!

Welcome everyone! I'm glad you all found the new digs okay. Laughing

We will work on getting the previous posts copied over as soon as possible. I need to find out from our tech team how to make it happen, since they're on completely different platforms, but I will be working on getting that done for you.

Well, I thought about copying them, but that's over a hundred posts to copy, so I'm going to give you the link to go back and read anything you might have missed.

The link to the old site will be available for about a month or so, so you've got time to take a look around, say goodbye, and all that.

LIH preview

Love the new site! I was wondering when they were going to put it up. Very cool......

Ok, more on the wonderful world of LIH. Here's a preview of the first 3 months of LI Historical books. As most of you know, Feb is the launch month, and we have Jill Hart and Cathy Palmer's books. Then in  March, we feature Hideaway Home by Hannah Alexander, a WWII romance, sort of a historical prequel to their Hideaway series of books; and Frontier Courtship, an amazing wagon train Western romance by the lovely and talented Val Hansen.

Then in April, comes Sara Mitchell, Christy-award finalist, and her historical romance mystery, Legacy of Secrets. And then Hearts in the Highlands by Ruth Axtell Morren, set in Victorian England and Scotland.  I can tell you, there's something for everyone in LIH. Kiss

I have a question for you all. Are there any settings or time periods you HAVEN"T seen, that you would like to see? I'm dying to see some Regencies or English-set stories. The ones I've read haven't really knocked my socks off.

Great Preview, Melissa!!

How exciting!!

I'm a HUGE Hideaway fan, so very excited to hear about the Hideaway historical. It doesn't get much better than that!

I love Regencies, and have been VERY disappointed in what's out there right now in the market in general, so I'd love to see the Inspirational market fill in the gap.

I also would love to see some Biblical fiction. I keep recommending Two Women of Galilee by Mary Rourke, which was by far the best book I'd read in 2007.  Huh. Maybe it was 2006, looking at the listing in the bookstore. Whichever. Anyway, I LOVED the setting.

And I know Civil War doesn't tend to sell well, but I am a big fan of the US Civil War. Oh, and French Revolution. Okay, pretty much any of the big wars are my cup of tea. Not the boring battle stuff, but the stories of real people and how they lived during those times. In college, I used to find and read all the old journals from people back then. Love that kind of stuff.

Okay, off to do more moving!

Found it!

Hi everyone--

I found the thread!

Cherl--Congrats on your contract with LIH!

I am looking forward to the first two books of this line that are on their way to me as we speak! Smile

Mary Cool

Settings

The new historicals sound wonderful!

I’d like to see more European settings. Like Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands and Spain. Smile

Settings

I'm fascinated by the early days of aviation.  In my mind, pilots are "lfying cowboys." Smile.   Airplanes opened up all sorts of places for missionaries. I'm seeing a tropical setting, maybe Africa . . . or Tahiti!  Some place warm and sunny!

LIH and Cheryl's replies

Hi, Dream!  Hi, Melissa and Mary!

Delighted to hear you read my books, Anita!  Music to a writer's ears.

Nice to touch base with friends, too, Janet and Vicki.  80 degrees?  I thought we were having a heat wave in Nebraska this week -- it was 38 when I picked up my guy at school this afternoon, and all the kids were in their shirtsleeves with no hats or gloves.

And Wayne, we won't discuss weather right now, right?  No doubt it's balmy on the island. Great to see you.  I think I need to add a pic so I can be seen too.  Anyhoo, that's a resounding YES to writing for HH.  In fact I'm working on delivering three books for them right now, and my LIH is in between those--next actually--on the deadline schedule.  So you will definitely see more from me there.  My next release is the western Christmas anthology from HH, probably in October with Caroline Davidson and Vicki.  Vicki, do we have a title?

Well, Valerie, we were all lost once, right? but now we're found!  Your cover is gorgeous!  Readers love wagon train stories, so look for big sales!

settings

warm and sunny sounds good. Africa would be very interesting. How about Asia?

HH Christmas Anthology

Hi Cheryl,  I'm so glad you're part of LIH!  Did I ever tell you that "Joe's Wife" is one of the HH's that inspired me to write?  I love that story.  I'm totally amazed to be in an anthology with you!   We don't have a title yet, but I'm already hoping for a gorgeous cover.

Ditto to readers loving wagon train stories!  I'm one of them!

Exotic Settings

Asia would be fascinating. Every once in a while, I think of doing a story set in China. Believe it or not, my senior thesis at UC Berkeley was called, "The Problems the Communist Party Faced in Mobilizing Women in China in the 1920s."  Does that sound dull or what!

Then again, add some romance and you've got a story.  I'm seeing an American pilot rescuing a woman missiionary and the three kids in her care . . . .

greetings encore

Hello to everyone. I'm Sara Mitchell, and like Melissa mentioned my LIH LEGACY OF SECRETS comes out in April. The new format here on eharlequin really does look great, but like a couple of ya'll mentioned, I lost all the earlier posts (or is it threads??) so am repeating myself here. As I mentioned in my other "first post,"  I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone inside my computer! Laughing  My heart remains hooked on the 1890s, but I admit this uniquely 21st century form of communication works better than the telegraph.

Thanks, Melissa, for introducing all the LIH authors so beautifully. I'm very excited to be part of the Steeple hill family again after all these years.

Thank You

Wow, Vicki, thanks so much for telling me that.  Joe's Wife is one of those stories that is special to me, too.  I'm honored to have written one of your favorites and to have been an inspiration.

yes!

>> I'm seeing an American pilot rescuing a woman missiionary and the three kids in her care .  <<

 I am loving this idea!

series books

>> I save them until I get the whole series then read them together.  <<

Anita, I've done the same thing, though sometimes I just can't wait for the next installment.

Absolutely on the aviation!

When I was a little girl, I adored Amelia Earhart. She and Marie Curie were two of my heroes. Er, heroines. Smile I've always loved stories about historical women who dared break the rules. Maybe it's the rebel in me.

I should probably just go ahead and admit to my addiction to biographies. And I REALLY love fictional versions of biographies as well. I cut my teeth on Victoria Holt, and very quickly moved to her Jean Plaidy and Phillippa Carr books... I really loved the Jean Plaidy books. Right now, I'm reading Christine Schaub's Music of the Heart series, which is the fictionalized versions of the lives of the writers of famous hymns and am very much enjoying those books. I'm not sure what I'll do when I'm done, since there's only two out. Frown

See what you've done, Melissa? You've forced me to admit to my secret addictions. Oh well, as I always tell the hubby, there are worse things to be addicted to.

I love all setting ideas you guys are coming up with. I keep reading these posts and thinking, "Yes! I want to read that too!"

There. Now you have it. If you didn't know this about me before, you can see me in my full nerdy glory.

Hi

Hi Cheryl and Vicky I can't wait to read your anthology.

I just wanted to say that "Joe's Wife" is one of my favorites as well.  I read that book every few of months.  It's inspired me to write a Western.  I plan to start it next week and hopefully I'll get it done this year.

Tina

Where are my manners?

And I forgot to welcome Sara Mitchell... I definitely want to give you a warm welcome because I know how unsure you were about getting online and getting it all figured out. Looks like you're going to be a pro in no time!

hello everyone

Hi Dream, Janet, Valerie, Vicki, Melissa, and all the rest of you historical writers and readers,

The new system seems to be working great. I had no trouble logging on and updating my profile.

Hi Sara--we're debuting the same month!

All the LIH covers I've seen so far are beautiful. Love Catherine Palmer's medieval.  Melissa, I thought SH wasn't doing medievals?

Dream- that Music of the Heart series you're reading sounds very interesting. Maybe I'll have to get it. I need some inspiration for my 3rd LIH...

Well, back to work on my regency research (not an LIH). Looking forward to popping back in soon,

LIH Preview

I'm so glad this LIH line is now here. I'm looking forward to reading the new historical books from it. I love all historical books, but I tend to gravitate to Regencies, Scottish Medievals, any historical set in England and America. The CBA market has lots of American historicals, so I'd love to set more European settings.

I made it!

Hello everyone!  I made it onto the new format intact.  Looking forward to this month and talking to all the new historical writers.

"pro's"

I have to confess that, if you asked my family and friends, they'd tell you it's unlikely that I'll ever be a pro when it comes to technology--unless you're referring to PROblems, which I always seem to encounter.

But thanks for the warm welcome. You're a PROficient moderator! I'm PROud to have figured out at least some of the system  PROperly and PROmise to PROgress. (Has anyone ever realized how many words begin with those 3 letters??)

For now, back to my PROse!

Hey, Allie!  I just read your post; I'm Sara Mitchell, and we'll be sharing the spotlight the same week so I thought I'd say hello to you as well, before I really do go back to work.

Settings/Time Periods

First I'd like to say how much I am looking forward to this new series. I think that I am signed up for subscription--at least when I called she said that she would put me on "the list". I'll wait and see if any books show up on my doorstep. She didn't take any payment info, so I'm not holding out too much hope. Hopefully these early books won't sell out before I figure it all out.

As to settings that I like:

What do you mean Civil War doesn't sell (sigh). Last year I read through most of the Able Jones CW mysteries by Owen Parry and couldn't get enough. I really like the CW era.

I'm happy to see some WWII on the list--and Hideaway, one of my favorites, no less! It's nice to know WWII is out of that limbo stage--too old to be contemporary, yet not old enough for historical.

I think, if I had a preference, I'd add that I'd like to see something other than Westward expansion. Not that I do not enjoy them, but they seem to dominate the American-set historicals and it'd be nice for some new interest.

I'll give it some thought and post again...

Blessings

Oh my goodness

Oh my goodnes, Tina, I am speechless.  Every few months??  I'm honored.  Especially because I understand -- I read the books that inspired me to write over and over again, too.  Many thanks.

Hello all!

Good to see everyone! Literally. I'll have to figure out how to make my picture the right size so I can post it. It's fun to see who we're chatting with. Right now this smiley face will have to do. Smile

Real Life Heroines

I can relate, Dream.  My elementary school had three whole shelves of biographies.  I read them over and over.  Favorites were Amelia Earhart, Sacajewea, Florence Nightingale and Clara Barton. I'm sure I read others, but those are the first to come to mind.

About the new boards . . . I love the look and so far they've been easy to use. Cool!

Wow, lots of new faces!

I'm so glad to see everyone made it!

Ruth, I'm glad you're here and that it was an easy transition for you. I'm looking forward to your next book! I've really enjoyed the historicals you've written for the single title imprint.

Jennifer, welcome!

Allie and Jill, glad to see you here too.

Sara, you're a real Pro yourself.

Barbara, you can always call them and double check. They should be shipping soon (if not already) and should be able to look it up for you.

I'm not positive on the  Civil War thing, I may be mistaken, but I think I've seen a few things where folks have said that.

I'm so glad I've got a fellow Hideaway lover. I love that series.

Janet, if you need help resizing, just email me and I'll see if I can help you.

Vicki, those biographies were great! I ate them up. I'm hoping my kiddo will get into them.

Frontier Courtship cover and settings

Thanks, Janet. And hello to all of you. Wow! I go away for a few hours and everybody shows up. Wonderful!

As for subjects, for some reason, I seem to identify with the American west, not only the westward expansion but also the development of society and the extraordinary folks who built this country. Maybe part of that comes from being the child of an immigrant and therefore a first-generation American. Not a hyphenated American. A whole one! I think I was probably 7 or 8 before I knew my father had been born and raised in Norway. I have never known a more patriotic American than he was and I'm sure a lot of those intense sentiments rubbed off on me. Mom insisted on perfect English, a gift that I'm still calling upon, thanks to her.

On the other side of the family, my mil is listed among the pioneers of the 99s, a women pilot's group. I admired her a great deal, too. Then there was my fil who worked on the original highway along the Columbia River Gorge by hanging on a rope over the cliffs and breaking off loose rocks with a hammer. Yes, it's true.

So there you go. I come from a long line of pioneer types and married a man with the same leanings. How could I do anything but write exciting fiction?

Good to "see" you all,

Val

I can't wait to read

I can't wait to read these!!  I love historicals, I started out on Victoria Holt/Phillipa Carr/Jean Plaidy books.....My favourite era is medieval although I do enjoy Westerns and Regencies.  I'd like to see some ACCURATE stories set during the War Between the States, I have some ideas for some set right after, but the story I have submitted to Harlequin Historial and WIP #2 are both medievals, my ideas for later periods carefully filed away in my file cabinet.

Of course since Vicki Bylin and Cheryl St. John are among favourite HH authors, I have to admit I'm especially anxious to read theirs.  I've always enjoyed y'all's stories and I"m sure I'll love your LIH stories just as much!

Unfortunately with school about to start back, they will have to sit in my TBR pile until spring break or summer.  Cry

Seriously, I'm so excited about LIH.  The line-up and wealth of time periods sounds fantastic. The covers are gorgeous, too.  I've ordered mine.  The notice came they were shipped today.  YAY!  I can't wait to read them.
