My Profile --- Email notification selections

I'm confused about the selections for email notifications ... could you please clarify?  ... the options given are ...

  1. Never send email notifications. Useful when tracking activity via RSS feed instead
  2. Always send email notifications
  3. Selectively send email notification based on the checkbox for each of my group's My Subscription page

If I wish to use RSS feeds, do I need to make sure I've selected #1?   ....  and which selection here effects being contacted by people who are my friends?

I've noticed some of "my friends" have the "contact" button on their profile page, and others do not  .... also, is that function working?  ... I've sent email via the "contact" button and been told it hadn't arrived or it arrived after several days

thanks!

I knew there was something I'd forgotten...

Hi Katherine,

Those selections for email notifications should not be visible, I'll have to log that as a bug and have our techies remove it. And the contact buttons also should NOT be showing up.  Can you maybe give me the names of the friends you have whose profile pages the contact tab is showing up on.  I've logged this issue time and again, but maybe this will help Hub and the guys nail it.

the my comments heading

I posted this somewhere else, but I'm not sure where Tongue out

On the My Profile page there is a heading for My Recent Comments.  Mine is empty.  I know I've made comments on other peoples' pages -- why aren't they showing up?  Is there some block I'm supposed to check that I missed somewhere?  I'd like to be able to track those comments and any responses I got.

 Can anyone help me out?

Me too ... on the missing comments

Hi Jayne ..... I'm also missing comments (replies on blogs)  ..... I just went looking for a comment I made on a book review and can't find it .... I've gone through all of my listed comments and it's not there

is there a pattern to the comments that do get saved for tracking on our profiles pages? ... are all our comments supposed to be accessible there or just a few?

thanks!

Clarification

You need to have made at least 5 comments in the Forums or on Blog entries for the recent comment module to capture and display them.  Have you clicked on the more.. button under the display of recent comments to see if your missing remarks are hiding on the page that will open to display ALL your comments?

Re: minimum 5 comments or posts

Jayne ... for me that's not a problem .... I have more than five comments to blogs/book reviews ... and definitely more than five posts on the forums

there was one particular comment I made on a blog entry .... I couldn't find it, but I think I now remember the member .... I'll go see if I can confirm that it is indeed missing

I'll let you know whatever the result

Edited --- Jayne here is an example ----

I commented on Feb. 10, 2008 8:16 am - I have this ....

Susan ..... I see what you mean ... on your profile it shows you haven't made any "comments" at all on the blogs or book reviews

perhaps, if you remember a book review or blog that you did make a comment on, you could list the details here (who made the blog/book review, date and time, title) and details of your comment (date and time comment was left) .... similar information to what I left above    ...... having specific details will help the techs sort out the problem

I do know there is at least one "comment" of mine that has gone missing .... so there is some sort of problem going on

Tag cloud vs. Tags

Hi Jayne,

I'm not sure I'm going to describe this properly. Please let me know if it's confusing.

I wanted to see which Superromances had been reviewed. I opened the More Tags page in the tag cloud and found Harlequin Superromance. When I clicked it, there were several reviews. However, none of the Super reviews I'd written showed up.

I opened one of my reviews, clicked on the Harlequin Superromance tag and got a whole different set of Super reviews.

This post: http://community.eharlequin.com/content/kay-david-obsession

has two Harlequin Superromance tags and they both turn up different sets of reviews.

The spelling looks identical. What's making the tags produce different lists? Is it because one is the auto-generated tag from the drop down series list and one is typed in?

Also, it would be AWESOME to be able to alphabetize the tag cloud for instances like mine when I knew what I wanted to find and it took me several scans through to see the tag.

Thanks for your help,

Ellen

tags

if tags aren't exactly the same they end up elsewhere. I could find one of my book under the Diamonds Down Under tag. When I checked again it was because I had Diamonds Downunder mini series. The same thing happened with my Texas Hold'Em books

Thanks

Thanks for your example, Christa. I checked it out for comparison's sake to see if I could see where the difference in the two Harlequin Superromance tags might show up.

But even when you click them and it opens a window, the heading at the top of the window (which is the tag) looks exactly the same--capitalization and everything. Unless there's a hidden space or something I'm not seeing I think the two Harlequin Superromance tags must have a code difference.

Hmmm. Computers are so helpful for automating things. Except when they're not. Laughing

Hi Ellen ....

for your Book Review of Betting on Santa, you have two tags ..... Harlequin Superromance   and   Superromance

for your Book Review of Return to Emmett's Mill, you have two tags .... Harlequin Superromance  and Superromance

for your Book Review of Doctor in Her House, you have two tags .... Harlequin Superromance   and   Superromance

for your Book Review of A Christmas to Remember, you have ONE tag .... Harlequin Superromance

the tag Harlequin Superromance  is generated by the drop down list for the Harlequin lines ... so you don't need to type it in again ..... same with the author's name

remember, tags can be more than one word ... it's the "comma" that separates them into individual tags

so if you are interested in seeing all the books reviewed of the Superromances, I suggest you click on the tag from the drop down list .... Harlequin Superromance

does this answer your question?  .. hope so!

Edited ---  Ellen, I see what you mean ... when I went to the tag cloud and clicked on "Harlequin Superromance" it brought up a short list ..... I clicked on one of the reviews and it had two identical "Harlequin Superromance" tags .... one brought up a short list ... the other brought up a different longer list

so yes, there is something wrong with the tag .... perhaps it has to do with whether a  book reviewer uses the drop down box to indicate the line .... that drop down is not mandatory so maybe that is where the difference lies .... and I think you may have already pondered this possibility

Great Minds

Hi Katherine,

Yep. You're seeing exactly what I did and coming to the same question I did. Yay! I'm not alone. Wink

I do think it must have something to do with the drop-down list tag being coded differently than the typed-in tag. It's a problem, though, for people like me who want to see all the Superromance reviews when we click on the Harlequin Superromance tag in the cloud.

I'm a bit of a geek so I like to know how things work. Smile Thanks for continuing the investigation!

Ellen

P.S. I tagged my reviews with Superromance as a separate tag because I don't know the tag matching logic. For instance MIRA and MIRA Books are two separate tags that bring up two distinct sets of results. (This makes me thing the tags and search are doing an exact match, otherwise MIRA would be a subset of the MIRA Books results, I think.) I figured there might be someone who types Superromance (not Harlequin Superromance) into the search box so I used that as a standalone tag. If I knew how the search and tag matching logic worked, I'd know whether it's worthwhile using the Superromance tag.

I guess saying I'm a "bit of a geek" is a "bit of an understatement." Wink

ROFL, Ellen ....

you can be as geeky as you want to be!

I think some of this might be because there have been on-going fixes which have included the book reviews .... perhaps some of the tags refer to a different time frame prior to a system fix  and others are after ....  it is a shame that tags require an "exact" match  ...

I wonder what the Search result would be for "Harlequin Superromance book review"  ..... maybe that would do the trick?

Edited:  -- Ellen,  the "Search" works ..... without typing anything in the box, click on "search" ... on the next page click on "advanced search" ..... in the box for "containing the phrase"  I typed in "Superromance"  .... then I selected "book  review" for the type  ..... that brought up a nine page list  .....  so as long as the reviewer is putting "Superromance" somewhere in their review, it should show up on the list

Susan ~ You’ve posted

Susan ~ You’ve posted your question in a number of threads and have been answered a few times, so I’m not sure whether or not this is a resolved issue or if you’re still having problems. The answer to this is rather involved, so if you are still having difficulties, please email me and I’ll do what I can to help you.

Hi Rosko. If you look on the bottom of the podcast page, you’ll see a drop down menu giving you the option to subscribe to a podcast. You choose subscribe to iTunes. The podcast will then open in your iTunes, under the podcasts heading. From there you just put it on your ipod the way you would any other media.

I hate to be a pain, but

I hate to be a pain, but I'm not quite sure what you mean because whenever I open up iTunes and download the podcast, it only downloads Author Spotlight 8, and I can't get number 9 on there.

The good news is that I found Ask The Editor posted on another website and just copied and pasted it from the site to my iPod, so I have that one at least, but still can't download Author Spotlight 9.

I'll keep fiddling with it though, maybe I'll get it right eventually.

Rosko, you're right .....

I just went to the Podcasts, and Author Spotlight Episode 9 and Meet the Editors Episode 1 do not download    ... Meet the Editors will play from the podcast page ---  the Author Spotlight Epidode 9 will not  .... you are not doing anything wrong, for some reason those podcasts are not downloadable

also, the link for the Podcasting FAQs on the podcast page does not work

Lorie, I'm thinking Episode #9 is the March podcast, so it's up early on the page ..... perhaps the person who designs that page could make note of when podcasts are available if they are putting them up early?  .... the Editors podcast doesn't appear to be part of the podcast subscription to make it downloadable, perhaps there's a time stamp on that too?

Hi Katherine and Rosco, I

Hi Katherine and Rosco, I just now re-tried to download the new author podcast.

If you click the podcast and then pause it, but leave it on, and then subscribe to the podcast with the drop down menu and choosing iTunes it should work. Yes,  it did take a little bit longer to download than usual, but it did work.

Please try it again, and give it a minute or two to download. It should come up. In the meantime, we have reported that it seems to be dragging a bit.

Katherine, I had the opposite problem.

Okay, so I tried the meet the Editors and that wouldn't work. I've reported it as problematic.

Hey thanks, I'll go try that

Hey thanks, I'll go try that right now :)

It works!! Thanks again!

It works!! Thanks again! Laughing

You're welcome Rosko.

You're welcome Rosko.

Thanks Lorie ......

I was able to download Author Spotlight Episode 9 ... iTunes has the release date as Feb 27, which is today .... so perhaps that's why it didn't work yesterday?

the Meet the Editors Episode 1, is still the same ... it plays on the podcast page, but you can't download it  ... or if you can, I can't figure out how

It's being fixed, and

It's being fixed, and should be up soon, but if you don't want to wait...

Open your iTunes, go to the store, to the podcasts page and search for Harlequin. It'll pull the Meet the Editors podcast up and you can subscribe to it from there.

Lorie - I did get an answer as to why they weren't showing up.  I was told that comments on Book Reviews don't appear as comments in the "Recent Comments" column.

I had posted in several places figuring that somewhere I'd get an answer Innocent not knowing how long it might take in each area....

Having trouble editting my profile

Hi. I'm new to the community. Somehow I managed to register twice with the same email address. ?

Now, I can't change anything on the first tab of my profile. I get an error that says, "that email address is already in use." or  "there is a space in front of your your user name" (Strangely enough, I can change the stuff on the second tab--the personal info stuff.)

Any thoughts?Embarassed

On my Profile page there is

On my Profile page there is a "What I'm Reading" section.  However, I can't find anyplace to enter that information!!!!

getting stuff on "What I'm reading"

Hi Cat

I've been not only displaying book names but also book covers there. I've noticed people only displaying names and authors. The way I've found a way to get thigs there is to go to edit then personal information, then to book browse widget and write what you want to display. Here you also need to use rich text like <br> for break. If you want to read instructions on posting book cover there are instructions on the second page of Tammys post called posting pictures. This is the way I've been doing it there might be other ways

Widgets

Hi Cat,

You'll find the code to add the book widget on the book detail pages in the online bookstore. We rolled out with a select few in March, but in April all of our books will feature the book browse widget feature, for example check the April BLAZE titles to see them. All you need to do is copy the code from the widget there and paste it into your personal profile page into the Book Browse Widget text field on the personal information page and the widget will show up in the What I'm reading block on your profile page. You can also click on Widgets on the FAQ page for installation instructions.

I'm also working on a way to display your Shelfari bookshelf on your profile page, but that's still in development ie, there aren't enough hours in the day Surprised

It keeps telling me that you are already registered as so and so and asks me if I have forgotten my password.

Is this something you have seen before or am I just missing something simple?
