I know exactly why she's member of the month

I'm envious of her energy, especially since 2008 hasn't been a great year energywise for me

Navigate from Profile to Comment

Hi,

I have a blog post that has three pages of comments. (We all posted our reading goals for the year.) Someone mentioned one of the books they read from their list and I wanted to go back in the comments to see what the title was.

Here's what I did:

1. Clicked their user name to get to their profile.

2. Clicked the correct comment in their "Recent Comments" list.

This took me to the top of the comment section for the blog post, not to the exact comment. Is this the same issue that causes this same behavior with the New Comment navigation for threads with more than one page?

Sorry if this is confusing. Thanks for your help!

Ellen

P.S. Oops. I should have put this in the Navigation thread. Sorry!

Blogs Home Page--Highlight Current Blogs

Hi Jayne,

I was wondering if it's possible to add to or switch some of the blog categories on the Blogs home page.

There are 4 categories (besides "Featured"):

Most Discussed

Most Favorited

Most Viewed

Most Recent

With the exception of Most Recent, those other categories are kind of static at this point. It's hard for a "new" blog post to crack those "Most" categories.

Would it be possible to have a "Today's Hot Blog" or something that would pull out the blog posts that are most active for that day?

The blog conversations are a ton of fun. I don't want to miss out on good exchanges while they're happening!

Thanks,

Ellen

Reading my mind

I've been keeping my eye on just that very thing and thinking along the same lines. It might not be something that will happen right away, but definitely something I'll propose for the next round of tweaking!

Thanks Ellen,

Deleting a Post

Just a quick question...Is there not a way to delete a forum post? A couple of people I know of have had duplicate posts they wanted to delete but couldn't figure out how. And I know I've posted something by accident a couple times that I wanted to delete but couldn't. Of course, in that case, the edit button is handy some but it would still be nice to be able to delete when necessary.

Future Inspiration?

willy nilly deletions

Hi Jana,

If you need to have a post deleted, just ask a hostie to help you out with it.  We wouldn't want less scrupulous types to have the power to delete willy nilly now would we?  Just sayin Wink

I think Jana's referring to

I think Jana's referring to the delete button that used to be beside the edit button when our posts first showed up on a thread.  It was only visible for a limited amount of time, and only the one who posted could access it.  No one could delete or edit someone else's post.  That's something I would really like to get back.  I know I wouldn't be bothering a hosty about getting rid of a duplicate post, but for some reason it happens more on the site now.

Hi Jayne

I'm cross posting this...

HI Lorie

sorry about the whine.... we can't help how people enter their reviews so no more whines on that. I do however have a techie request. The page numbers 1 2 3 4 5 etc are at the bottom of the Book Challenge page. When you write a comment you either have to go back 3 or 4 pages or click on Book Challenge again and go all the way to the bottom to go to page 4 again or 5 again.

Can the techies ALSO put the page sequence at the TOP of the Book Challenge page? It would save the server from having to do all those BACKs and you can get back to the page you were perusing easier. Just a thought

Also, can they also look into adding a button at the bottom of posting or comment pages to go BACK TO TOP??

Clicking on New in Favourites

Another nice thing would be if, when we click on New in our Favourites, if it took us to the newest posts, instead of the beginning.  I really admire the techies who have put this site together.  It's an incredible amount of work.  They deserve all kinds of kudos!  (This is where, if this were the Flash Chat, I'd put a little applause smilie.)  Cool

Discussion Thread Topics

Hi Jayne ......

a few of the lines have started new Continuity series and I can't find any information on them  ...... why do some new mini-series warrant a discussion and others do not?  ... if a reader / shopper is not a subscriber to an imprint, how are they supposed to know about a series?

Example .... in the SSE, we have the new "Wilder Family"  ... and in LIS, there is the "Revelation Reunion" ...... at least with the SSE series, the bookstore has put up the Dear Reader letters with the books .... with the LIS there is no information other than the individual book, I can't figure out how they are linked

is there not a place somewhere either in the Bookstore or here in the Community where a new mini-series could be announced .... with start date, the number of books, who the authors are, and a brief synopsis of what the series is about ....

esp. helpful would be the Dear Reader letters that the authors write to go in those books ...... the eHarl Bookstore is hit and miss on adding those to their selling pages, a major frustration for me and one I've complained about numerous times to Eleanor  .... those Dear Reader letters are an important resource for readers and a valuable marketing tool for your authors

any chance on getting a special thread to announce the new mini-series within the imprints? ....

thanks!

Book Challenge Reviews

Jayne is there anyway the techs can put the counter # on the actual book reviews?   .... right now you can't tell who posted review #4400 without figuring it out by counting back

it would be lovely to be able to "Congratulate" reviewers for posting milestone reviews ... I think it would be a great boost for all the Challengers  ..... add a bit of excitement and commraderie  Smile

a post counter is probably just one of those things they have to switch on .... or so I would think .... just like with the time stamp

thanks!

like Katherine's idea

I really like Katherine's idea. I think to go along with that we would need a congrulations thread. on the old site we could post our congratulations right on a person's blog. That way people would know where to go.

comments

Is there a way to have the comments we post on other people's book reviews show up on "Recent Comments"?  I'd like to be able to follow up on the comments I leave, but I can rarely find them again ....

re: suggestions

I'm curious about the Members of the Month...is there a place to see a little blurb about the member, and why s/he was chosen?  So far it just seems to link to the member's profile...but I'd love a "why" for the nomination.  I'd love to see what people are contributing to the community.

Second that Suggestion

I was just thinking that exact same thing today. It would be great to get some "extras" about the featured member. Maybe we could develop a set of questions like the ones from the Actor's Studio (see Sam Hunter's blog) for the featured members.

Cheers,

Not special?!!

Ah, FF ..... of course you're special .... look at all the time you've spent reading blogs and pointing out to new members when they've made a blog instead of a book review ..... all the help you've been steering people in the right direction when they've gotten frustrated ....all that continued tirekicking .... plus that super duper sense of humour of yours Wink

and, ah shucks, you think I'm special Embarassed  thanks! Cool

ROFL, FF .....

is there a blush under all that fur?   Wink   ... YOU are a tremendous asset to the eHarl Community, so blush away!

Jayne, I was wondering if there was some way to have some of the discussions from the old site made available .... perhaps copied to a Adobe PDF file and then a page of various links to those files?   .... Kate Walker's discussion "The Care and Feeding of the Alpha Male"  is one I'd love to read over and over again .... and I think there was one called "Presents: The Virgin"  .... I'm sure there are other discussions as well that members would love to be able to read again

btw; I see there have been a few changes to our Profiles .... so cool!  ..... will the entire eHarl lineup be available for preview and widgets? ..... so cool!

W00T to FF and widgets

IF you take a look at some of our Blaze April titles, you'll see the widgets in place under the book cover picture. I've asked Scott to add a new text field to our profile pages so that all you have to do is to copy the code from the book page and paste it into that text field to display the cover on your profile page. Of course, you're more than welcome to add the widgets to your external blogs and websitesLaughing

You'll see it sitting on my profile page if you want to check it out. We have a teensy display issue with the bottom of the widget being cut off. We'll get that solved shortly.

And FF, you're WAY too modest. You've earned your MOM stripes by being such a fabulouso help here on the boards and with our challenged challengers for the Book Reviews.

Can I hear a W00T?!?!?!?

Oh and Katherine, as soon as I figure out a way to easily export those Q&A files over here it will be done.  Right now it's a bit laborious copying and pasting them one at a time.  When Scott has a free moment he's promised me that he'll take a look see.

"Browse this Book"

Where are you clicking on "Browse this book"?  ..... so far it's working for me except on the actual individual book page where the "widget" code is displayed .... from there it will not open up the "browse this book"

if you go to the series line summary pages where all the books are shown for that line and click on the "browse this book" beside the cover art, it should open up the browse ......  for example, click on any of the "browse this books" from this page and it should work ....

hopefully that's the problem!

Hey Jayne!

Ok, I had dh(he's a techie guy) look at it.  He says it is not Java, but that it runs on Flash.  So I installed Flash on my computer, and it worked!!  Woohoo!!

I sent the info to Christa as well.  Hopefully it will work for her.

EDIT:  I mispoke, apparantly only our single titles and passion categories will have widgets as of April 1.

Book review ... book list drop down ...

Hi Jayne!

back on your Community 2.0, Sadhbh asked about additions to the book list dropdown for the book reviews ..

In book Reviews the Book Series box is good for the Harlequin imprints but it would be helpful if it included past imprints (Temptations, Duets, Bombshells, Silhouette Intimate Moments etc.), even though they're not "current" imprints

could we have the Harlequin Presents Extra added? .... also, one for Mills & Boon ?

thanks!

Can you ask him about the bouncing-to-the-top-after-posting issue? Innocent This problem is really irritating the people who post in the Gal Pal Corral, to the point where they are not posting as much.  I know resolving the problem must be complicated, or the techies would have already taken care of it, but people are starting to comment that this was done on purpose to keep the number of posts down.Surprised I know that it not true, but it gives you an idea of how annoyed people are.

Forum .... listings

Hi Jayne ...

More .... Re: Forum .... listings

Hi Jayne

If an expanded Forum topics list is not possible ... can we get an expanded list for each Forum? ..... I don't know the forum discussions that well, and it's frustrating to have to keep opening folders to find the discussion that you know is part of that Forum but you can't see under what folder it's hidden in

on the old site, we could see all the discussion topics that belonged to a Forum on one page ..... that's what I'd love to see again  .... I think if you made that possible more people would find the discussions

thanks!
