Could I be the first?

New room, and I'm the first one here?  This is so like me; you'd think I'm an overachiever what with always trying to be a couple of minutes early to a meeting where everyone else shows up two minutes late.  The truth, however, is I have time to kill.  LOL

Hey everyone. Hows it going.

Hey everyone. Hows it going. I can't remember who's in submission land and who's aiming for it but good luck to everyone. I'm looking forward to starting the writing year off come Monday. Smile Round number two, here I come!!

Ooo couldn't resist

Couldn't resist popping in to say hi! Laughing  It'll be great to see what happens this year and get to read the awesome stories everyone puts out. xD

I finally broke down and bought a laptop (well a little netbook...it's soo cute! lol) so I have no excuse not to finish a ms or five. Wink

Oh hey, I would love to hear how anyone finds or has found a critique partner or someone to critique their work?

Hi All!

*E gets her pushbike and rides around and around in big circles while there's so much room*

Whew.  Can't do that like I used to.

Rach - good luck diving back in - got anywhere for AC to go?

Livvy - I went to the critique partner thread here at eHarl - got one response.  My others are from here...

Still working on re-write for my ms.  Won't be long, though... E x

A new room!

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to shout out to the regulars.  Hope everyone is writing hard.  Good luck to everyone with submissions out there (Barbara - any news?)  I also saw a few newbies had posted in the old room - welcome.

E - how's the manuscript coming?  I had the pleasure of reading E's story - she has some very sexy faeries!

Rach - I don't think I ever congratulated you on the article you sold.  Well done.

Update from me - I'm about to fill out the art fact sheet for Savage Dragon.  I don't know the actual release date, but it should be soon.  And I've been working on getting a website set up - that has been a lot of fun.  On the writing front, I'm putting the finishing touches on a new Bite (finally!)  This one has taken sooo long to write, but I think I'm finding my writing groove again since my move.  Then I'll be looking for a seat on bench and starting revisions on some full manuscripts.

Checking in...

Oh, it is too funny how I get a little panic stricken when threads are archived.  I get this "where did everyone go" feeling. lol  Found my way into the new room! Whew...

First off, hugs to snowpuppy on that rejection.  It sounds like you're not letting it slow you down.  Good!  Sometimes it's just a matter of finding the right place for the right story at the right time and that won't happen if we let rejections stop us.  You'll hear me say "Write. Submit. Repeat." I've been following that tactic for about a year now and it seems to be working better than the "Write. Submit. Put-it-on-a-shelf-to-gather-dust." tactic I used to follow:P

elove, good on you with those suggested revisions from Anna.  Sounds like you're rolling up your sleeves and ready to work. I never realized how much work in this business came after you typed The End!

Anna, good luck with your AFS.  (I still have nightmares filled with drop down menus!  But, of course, I'm dying to fill out another.<g>)

As for me, I'm still on the bench.  My Bites sub is with ALT.  It hasn't been there long enough for me to be getting *too* antsy yet:>

Hey Barbara!

Glad you found us! When I archive, I always put a link to the Write Stuff main page. :) But if you get really lost, check the "Recent Posts" link for the newest thread if I ever lose you. :)

I miss working on my paranormal. And I got another idea for a paranormal, too. Gotta finish other commitments first. :)

Thanks...

Am plowing through revisions - you're so right, Barbara (good luck with your sub...).  The real work might well begin after 'The End'.  I'm really pleased with the way it's ironing out, though.

Anna - you're a gem!  Thanks again - I think your suggestions for amending EI were fantastic - it's shaping up to be so much better than it was.  Between you, Rach, & Neo, it's looking good (well, I think!).  Glad you think my faeries are sexy, too :).  Have fun finishing up your bite.  If you need a reader... ;)

Hope your little one is on the mend, sb.

Just wanted to pop in and

Just wanted to pop in and say hi.  I've been lurking a little bit around these forums for a few weeks and you all seem like a nice bunch.  I am very interested in researching the Nocturne Bites line to see if I'd like to try my hand at writing for it.

Hi ALL !!!

I'm in the middle of writing my Nocturne Bites submission. At first I had stopped it because I felt it wasn't good enough after reading some Nocturnes.

Then after looking at it again, I'm totally re-writing and re-working the entire thing.

All of you through the forums have been giving such great advice. Thanks for that

Great to find this new thread!!

Good luck everyone. Laughing

finally after three weeks

finally after three weeks and many baby related distractions, i've finished my first draft for a nocturne bite.  what have i realized while going through the revisions?  i have no hero POV!  not sure if this is a big problem in the general sense of a Bite, but i personally feel jipped not seeing his thoughts when i know what he's thinking.  where does this leave me?  basically rewriting almost every scene to include it!

oh please, baby girl, give momma a break and let her finish this thing!  Innocent

PS~ is there anyone willing to offer a real down to earth, no holds barred, critique?  you can be brutally honest, i can take it (covering face with both hands and peeking through her fingers)  Laughing

I'll look at yours if you look at mine.

Hetal, i'll be more than happy to look at it. my e-mail is mvillery@nycap.rr.com.

Do you mind looking at mine?

Hey Hetal...

Not that I can say it'll win you points having a single POV, but there are stories that have pulled it off, so long as you're showing his conflict and motivations.

Sending hugs on asking the baby for help. I thought I was brilliant for letting my girls color quietly next to me while I worked today. Forgot to keep an eye on the crayons. Guess who's going to have purple wax shavings in her diaper soon?

Sigh.

Dee

"The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment."

3 chapters down, 3 to go!

The WIP definitely seems better with the additional hero POV.  I think I was hesitant at first because getting into the guys head wouldn't have seemed genuine without being able to play off the heroine first.   I have very few life examples to draw from so I keep thinking back to boyfriends from way back when.  My DH, sweet though he is, not very good at giving me the drama I so need.  Hmmm, why am I complaining again? Wink

Hey Shell, I'd love to take you up on that offer.  I'm going to need a couple of days to make the changes I talked about but feel free to email  @ hetalpinal@gmail.com in the meantime.  Gotta tell you, I'm nervous about this.  I absolutely will not let the DH look at it and though I mentioned it to my sisters, I don't know if I'll  have the guts to follow through.  I'm going to consider you my warm up to the entire process.

Dee, maybe it'll help with the smell as well?  Just trying to find the silver lining, tee-hee.  Baby has been really fussy during daylight hours lately.  Maybe teething?  We can't figure it out.  Too bad I couldn't use that good baby karma you sent out for helping them sleep.  She happens to sleep really well at night, it's the other stuff that needs fixing!  Oh well, goes with the territory I guess.

If that's the case, Hetal..

Oy ve, does that redefine "scratch & sniff" or what? LOL! Glad the POV changes are working. The best part is, you're honing what you have into something better. That's a big step, there's a ton of people out there who never even try to improve. :)

Continued luck!

Sorry to repeat for those in Subcare:>

I received a revision letter today for the Bites I sent ALT a few weeks ago.  It's very much like the letter I received for "Wilderness", referencing specific pages and specific things to change. I love a road map!!  Also, Ann Leslie liked the premise.

So, have grindstone and nose, will travel! <vbg>

Congrats Barbara!! You must be doing a little happy dance. Wink wahoo

E - the kids are back at school but have had birthdays and back to school stuff going on so my official - get my ass back on the chair - day begins on Monday. I should have things sorted and back into routine by then and I can (hopefully) get some kind of flow going.

Anna. Can't wait to see your dragon bite. How's your new bite coming along?? I'm itching to read itSmile

Happy writing everyone!!

Hetal...No

Hetal...No worries...

Whenever you're ready hon....

In the meantime.......I'll send you mine....I completely understand.

My first time that I gave CP my stuff. I was nervous too.

But a lot of times because of how close an author gets to a character. It's good to have an objective eye.

No worries....

If you don't. It's okay too. Smile

Dee, btw good

Dee, btw good luck!!!

 And thanks Barb!!!!

Off to write!

OOOoooOOOoooh! Cup holders!!

You know, we had one each when we had our Jeep, and that was for the front seat only. Then we got the Van, which has 5 in the front and I think like and extra four more in the back areas. At least. And I never have enough, lol.

I'm a total cup holder hooker, Barb, so I'll plant my tushie right next to you. And then I'll wrap myself in a cuddly blanket of denial until the wait is over... Sooo sooofffffft! :)

Congrats Barb and lots of good vibes for the revision!

Do you remember when you had sent your submission in? As comfy as the bench is getting with those fancy pillows and cupholders, i'll admit i'm getting antsy after two full months. That, and it's hard to type when you've got no nails left :P

Wait time

I'm going to say it was about four weeks, Kallys. But that was straight to ALT. (One of the perks of having "Wilderness" under my belt...and I still have to pinch myself whenever I get an e-mail from her! One of the drawbacks...having performance anxiety and wondering if you'll ever write anything worthy again!!)

One thing I've figured out to make the waiting easier is to have so much "out there" that you almost can't remember what's where:> Of course, when stuff starts selling and edits start coming in, it makes for some pretty hectic deadlines!

I tell ya' though.  It's great to have such fantastic company on this comfy bench!

Hi All,

Welcome to Shell, Hetal and Florida.  You're gonna love it here...

Big congrats to Barb - fingers crossed (sooo unnecessary, I'm sure...)

Good luck with your noc sub, Dee - crossin' for you too...

Anna has a date for her Bite debut now...  I'll let her jump in and tell you  :)  There's one I cannot WAIT to get my hands on!

I have decided (after going most of the way through with Anna's critique) that my story just doesn't have enough angst or depth, and I want my hero to be more than luke warm.  I am having a mini-crisis.  I am going to re-write it.  Lord, help me.

Sorry if I've misspelled anything.  I sat on my glasses (had them off to read DARK CURSE - loved it - whew! Hot!), now the lenses are different distances from my face.  Perspective is up the creek.  I keep walking into stuff.  Got DARKFEVER on audio to 'read' now - doesn't require glasses.

Have fun, everyone, E.

See, Denial feels gooooood!

Barb says so. :) (Shares more denial blanket.)

LOL elove! Would you believe I sleep with my glasses on? I'm pretty sure they're bent beyond repair, but it's the only way I can find the babies when they wake up crying for whatever reason. (I'm excessively myopic) They used to crawl away and get stuck in blankets, dips or crib parts. (Yup, they're REALLY weird). In the time it takes me to find glasses and get them on, they'd usually have fallen out or off. This way, I can find them right away.

Wonder if I could turn that into a story... Heroine with fuzzy vision is the only one who can see lost children? That's a maybe. :)

Baby helps me type

Yep,the same one who won't give me that break.  At 7 months old,
it's scary how much she alredy loves technology.  She sits on my lap
while i type, has to hold the cellphone when I'm on a call, and wants
to flip channels with the remote right at the height of suspense of
whatever I'm watching.  My little goober Laughing

Shell,
wanted to let you know that I haven't looked at your Bite yet as I
raced to the finish with mine, but I am sooo looking forward to giving
it some time now.

Can't tell you how many times I've come to crushing my glasses.  I have this knack for knocking them off the nightstand with my blankets as I roll around in bed, so then I'm gingerly putting toes on the floor to get my butt on the floor to search in the absolute dark for them.  I've been lucky so far, but that luck can only hold out so long.

Thanks for the welcomes.  Now that I've got one story out of my head, another one's knocking  around in there hollering to get written.  guess I better get to it!

G'night all

Words of encouragement

Vivi Anna,  I know I'm not the only one grateful for the encouragement.  Thank you!

E, don't be discouraged by rewrites.  I can't tell you how many times I've chucked a whole rough draft and started from scratch with the same story and lessons learned to come up with something much better than I'd had before.  (Just be careful.  Sometimes feeling tired or having an off day can make even the best story seem horrible.  Everything I write s*cks after five in the evening and seems golden at 6am.  It's just a pattern with me:>)

I've "finished" the edits on my Bites, but I'm going to let it sit and stew for awhile before I take a look at it with fresh eyes.  I'm sure there will be more polishing of these fresh edits to make it just right!

Barbara!!  So glad to hear

Barbara!!  So glad to hear you got revisions and got them finished so quickly.  Can't wait to hear more about this Bite and see it on the "virtual" shelf...or better yet, my Kindle.

E - I've told you this before, but good luck with your revisions.  And don't throw out everything!  You had great moments in your story.  You'll have a winner, I'm sure.

Dee - Good luck with your submission!

Florida girl and Shell - good luck with your Bites and keep us posted on the progress.

Hetal - so glad to hear you put your hero's POV in your Bite.  I agree, I always feel cheated if I don't get to see inside the hero's head.

As E let slip, I have a release date for my Bite, Savage Dragon - July.  I'm super excited and working to get my website finished.  I also (finally) finished the other Bite I've been working on.  E and Rach are reading it for me before I send it off to Ann Leslie

Me and my big...mouth

Yay Anna on the release date! Looking forward to that...

I'm on my second read through of Anna's new story - the first time I was so engrossed, I forgot to make notes!  That's saying something, eh?  It is fantastic, Anna.  I'll get back to you very soon...

Thanks for all the eSupport, ladies.  I think I am a bit clearer now on where my ms should be headed.  I think it'll be better for the alterations, and I really don't want to waste anyone's time sending in something I know could be improved...

Barb, that's really interesting.  I tend to think it's all gold in the start of the week, and craptacular by Friday night.  Weird.  Perhaps it's lack of sleep.

Lol, Dee.  I must leave mine within three inches of my bright red alarm clock display.  If they get moved, I lose them, then I wake hubba hubby to find them for me if I've got to get up to a baby.  Ever woken a hibernating bear?  I have... Luckily, he's too sleepy to string sentences together and falls back to sleep as his hands move to my throat...  Funny thing is, when I thank him in the morning, he can't remember anything!  Bless.

Glasses still skew-wif.  Had to dig out some really terrible old ones.  I look like a mad scientist - complete with crazy frizzy hair...    Longing for my pre-16 years when I didn't have to don the goggles at all....  Ah, to afford surgery...

Off to make a heart-shaped chocolate cake for the boy.  Good luck to everyone waiting or working.  Have fun with all your stuff...  Have a LOVEly day!  E x

That's fantastic, Anna.  I'm going to look forward to July!  I understand completely about trying to get your website going etc.  I've said before that I wasn't as prepared as I should have been for all the "after the sale" things. Like you, I worked to get my website going before my release and gradually, over time, I've gotten set up on facebook, twitter, yahoogroups and just a couple of days ago, YouTube.  It's all very fun, but more work than I'd planned for!

yeah, it just turns into a lot more work as you go, too. I've not mastered MySpace yet and Facebook is kinda my friend. Twitter's good for me. I've recenty been getting offers for Multiply, just haven't been able to look into that one yet. Getting your name out there and part of public consciousness is one of those things no one really talks much about but it takes a lot of time to get everything working for you just right.

Learning all kinds of new things

I never even thought about the necessary evil of self promotion if I ever get to where you're at, ladies.  In my naivete, I just figured I'd write and that other stuff would work itself out.  Boy am I blushing Embarassed

As always, your knowledge is appreciated by newbies like me!

On the upside, Shell and I have recently finished critiquing and trading back our papers (does that sound middle schoolish?  Tongue out).  With her notes under my wing, I'm going to use her constructive criticism and clean up my WIP.  Hope to tell you guys soon I'm submitting, but I guess time will tell.

Shell, thanks so much again for your advice.

Thanks to Rach and E

I wanted to thank the lovely ladies for reading over my latest Bite.  They had some excellent comments.  I have just sent it off and will be taking my seat on the bench.  Ladies, I look forward to reading more of your work and seeing your Bites sell.

Barbara and Dee - you have a twitch starting under my eye.  MySpace?  Twitter? Facebook?  I'm just focusing on a website for now!  I might have some questions for both of you later.

Hetal - good luck with those revisions.  I'll keep a spot warm for you on the bench until you've submitted.

Well, the website is definitely the biggest step. A blog is I would say step 2. Giving readers a place to learn about you as a person--like we do here, but in maybe not as interactively--is good word of mouth promotion. Promotion of THAT sort is really a writer's bread and butter because YOU are your own brand item. If you come across as an evil cow who is suspicious and malicious...that'll effect your sales. But if you're personable and interesting (as we know you ladies are), readers remember you and think about how that translates into your writing. (Remember how by his books, people expect Stephen King to be a scary, really psycho guy?--I hear he's actually quite the nice man)

Thankfully, the only pictures of me on the internet involve having had my hair done, otherwise folks would mentally put me in the Stephen King section, lol.

Hi all, I was wondering how long it takes people, in general, to write their bite?  Mine is taking way too long, and it is a tangled mess.  I'm screaming on the inside because I always feel like I'm running on a wheel.  I love writing my stories, but it frustrates me that it takes so long to produce a clean draft.  I feel like an oaf when I hear that other writiers, write their novel in three months and boom, get it published.

Hi Everyone!!!

:: waving long and wild to all my friends!! ::

Nice shiny new room... lots to catch up on... moving in all my notes and updates.. :)

Where have I been?? umm.. mostly on Facebook.. lol.. friend me at: Nicole Bisceglie  plus I have a new blog under my pen name - Nicole Dennis : http://nicoledennis-author.blogspot.com/   and I'm trying to work on a new website.. but having issues with figuring out what to do...

News?? 3 short stories have been accepted for 3 different anthologies from a different online publisher.. leaning more towards erotica than paranormal.. :) two anthologies are out now.. the other in late spring - I think.. I got a positive rejection letter from another e-pub and am working on that story thanks to the wonderful roadmap the editor gave me..  and I caught sight of the new pitch for Bites and made a note to add that to my calendar..

Work?? Still with my wonderful little office that lets me get away with writing during the day.. most of the guys (all accountants) are actually intrigued with the writing/creative process... lol.. getting into tax season tho so work is gonna pick up speed..

Umm... did i miss anything??

Congrats to everyone who got wonderful news.. :) Hugs and cyper chocolate to all who got bad news.. but everyone is right - just keep writing and submitting and learning this wonderful craft.. Hugs to all the moms out there who are writing and taking care of all those cuddly babies and kiddos.. I just have two furkids to handle so I can't figure out how you moms can accomplish all that..

Ok.. gonna wrap up.. :) I'll try and hang out more here.. I promise!!!

Me - Not much new. Had the flu, then my computer got a virus. Now I'm back and playing cachup. Nothing out on submission right now, but I'm busy doing revisions for an epublisher and sharpening a pitch for a regional conference the end of March...had an idea for a noc bite but not the time to write it (forgot who asked, but it normally takes me 3wks to write and edit a 10-12k story). Now that I see we have this pitch contest, though. hmmmm....lol.

Later!

Don't fret.  Writing is like giving birth.  Sometimes those babies seem to magically appear in this world with no morning sickness and no labor pains and sometimes...well, sometimes it's much, much worse!

For me, every story is different.  Some seem to magically appear on the page and others seem to just about kill me before they're ready to share with the world.  Hang in there.

I'm a featured author in a Forum Fiesta today at  http://www.moirarogers.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=39&sid=8cc66320a6fd2d0fb0dd0de8e58d8d54

I hope you'll all stop by to read excerpts and take a look at all the great contests!

Home of the monthly book giveaway!

Hi All,

Hope everyone is doing well...

Got new prescription sunglasses this week.  They seemed a bit odd, but I wondered if I just wasn't used to the green lenses (cool, eh? :)) - I'd had brown ones.  But I called them, just to check.

THEY PUT THE WRONG PRESCRIPTION IN!  Arrrrgh!

I am a country pumpkin.  I go to town, maybe, three times a year.  I'm scheduled to go in four times in four weeks.  *grumble*.  Okay, build a bridge, E.

I'm nearly done on the final workings of my MS - taking me a while.  I have two concepts that I'm going to work on for the pitch.  THE PITCH!  Yay - excitement!  Who else is pitching?

Good luck with your stuff (and secret, coded 'stargnoc' to Barbara...)

E x
