Yay, come on in!

I love a shiny new room...

We didn't take long to fill the last few pages on Guidelines 2, did we?  I came back after a few days, and we'd moved!

Welcome back to Oz, Anna.  Hope you had a fab time in DC.  We've hit 20 members at your FB page - rockin'!

Welcome to Marianne and Erica.  It's great here..

Melissa - fingers crossed, but I don't suppose the contact info is a deal-killer.  If they want it, they'll want it anyway, eh?

Crystal, Catherine and Erica - I had that same trouble, the year before last.  I had loads of beginnings (all grammatically lovely), and no endings.  I just had to learn to push through.  I found, for me, there was no point in getting too tied up in the logistics, because my plot/characters/conflicts/whatevers were likely going to change.  I have in the past plotted until death, but I'm learning just to write the darn thing, which is kinda of liberating, so long as I have a general plan.  Like Nora Roberts says in a much more succint manner, you can't fix it if you don't write it!

Lulu, I'm not sure if anyone answered your question about editors calling.  Not that they've called me (!), but I understand you get a form R email, or a phone call if they'd like to take it on, with revisions if needed (but it needs to be pretty tight)...

I've had a Bites sub in for not quite five months.  I've sent a follow-up email, but no news yet.  Which is, hopefully - as they say - good news!

Rach and I have kicked off our writeathon - on target thus far.  But it's only week 1 of 10!  I have high hopes for us, though...   You go, Rach!

My eyeballs are returning slowly to normal.  I still get some blurriness (for some reason, I now can't wear my fave sunnies - poop!), and discomfort, but I'm looking well!

Hiya Dee, Nellie, Micki, Diane.  Hope your writing is powering along nicely.

Right, back to the cave for me.  Take care, Emily.

My gosh Em! You always

My gosh Em! You always amaze me with how much you post in one sitting. lol Hubby will be beating you off that computer with a stick if you don't watch outLaughing.  As Emily said, the two of us are off to a good start with our writeathon - or should we rename it - the justbloodydoitathon! Whata ya reckon Em. I struggled a bit with the first week but today...wait for it...I did my whole 1000 words in one sitting!! And I owe it all to Catherine. I had never thought of the writing process and the editing process using two different parts of the brain. When I read that it just made so much sense to me and I had my AHA moment, as Oprah would say. So, yeah, I'm one happy cookie today. Needless to say, what I actually wrote was terrible, but the story (for the love of God!!!) FLOWED.

Happy happy happy. Thanks Catherine!!Laughing

Okay, got dishes to do, floors to clean blah blah blah. Wish I could write all that away!

Welcome back Anna. Nice to see you on the boards again.

New Room

OOOOHHh new room.. Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll wait until the 3 month mark to send the status email and put our phone number in it.

Anna: I read what you said about the tension right away and I did see that in Savage Dragon. Our bite had tension but it had been going on for a while and the hero and heroine reunited it was set to flame again... hopefully that will work out the same.  If you get a R with comments on how to change can you resubmit after you revise or is the nocturne bites a once and done deal? I didn't know but I thought somewhere I had read that you can only submit the bite once. I could be wrong though.

We are out of the writing funk so to speak. We wrote only about 500 words yesterday but I had a great dream last night that I outlined for a new romance and we've outlined most of another one as well. I usually don't outline but have just a general idea and change as I go but having the dream and coming up with the other idea, I didn't want to forget anything so I just jotted it all down.

I started a new blog website with wordpress but haven't added too much. You can come check it out and let me know what you like and don't like so far.  www.melissagolliday.wordpress.com  If I can get it just the way I want it I thought I'd buy the domain name. I checked out Michelle Willingham's site and love her design. I checked out the designer but we'll have to wait until we sell a MS for that design.

We're getting ready to head out to the petting zoo and my father-in-law's camper for the day but our oldest is spending the night with them so after the baby goes to bed it is back to writing again! I've been typing so much I now have to wear wrist braces. Not to worry, I only wear them typing and cross stitching, not all the time. Oh the pains of being an authorEmbarassed

Thanks Anna and Emily for

Thanks Anna and Emily for the advice and encouragement! I will try to follow it and see if I can't complete at least one WIP. I completed one when I was ALOT younger and was not thrilled with the end result (no editting). Unfortunately, I don't think it could be salvaged so will just have to bite the bullet and finish one of the ones I am currently working on.

Anna

You're dead right -- I did actually like Dreamcatcher, found it quite moving, but at the end of the day... yeah, I'm not going for 'moving'. Wink I should post a pic of Buffy and Spike on my wall for constant, er, motivation! 'Cuz let's face it, Angel was sweet, but he only got interesting when he went bad...

Crystal, have you ever read any Anne Lamott? She makes a great point in Bird by Bird, her (excellent) book on writing. She says you might write six pages of sh*t before you finally come up with a single sentence that captures exactly what you want to say. But the thing is, you would never have written that sentence if you hadn't written those six pages of sh*t. (She also, encouragingly, has an entire chapter devoted to sh*tty first drafts... She uses lots of swears...Innocent)

I'm running with another piece of Lamott advice -- you only have to write what you can see through a one-inch picture frame. Not the whole story in one sitting. Just the bit where the heroine looks across the orchard and catches a glimpse of what looks like, say, fur. That advice is my lifeline right now.

August Nocturne Bites Featured...

Dee,

Just wanted to let you know that I was able to get the info in time to feature both of August's Nocturne Bites in New eBook Releases on my blog today. Also, Kindling Romance just got a nice mention from The Washington Post in an article about the future of eBooks sales, so hopefully that will bring in extra traffic today.

I wanted to include the Spice Briefs, as well, but one of the authors wasn't able to provide info, and the other author never responded. Would you happen to know of someone at HQN I can contact in the future for blurb and cover info? Maybe a PR person who handles eBooks? I'm trying to provide well-rounded coverage for all the subgenres.

Thanks again for your help. It's much appreciated!

Thanks Erica I will have to purchase and read the book to add to my collection of writing tips. She sounds like she would have some good advice - swear words and all!

Kiss You're welcome, m'dear. Sometimes we just need a lil' hit up side the head to realize what we need to do. Glad I could help.

Congrats on the mention, Aileen!

I don't get to blog hop as much as I used to, so I was pleasantly surprised when I went over to see how the posts came out. You put a lot of work into that!

I have to ask if I can give you the info or who you should contact. I'll let you know as soon as I have an answer. :)

She's very... practical. Very much about the weirdness that goes through a writer's head when she actually sits down in front of her computer screen. Another chapter is about what she calls Radio KFKD. That is, "Radio K-F*cked." (Again with the swears! *tuts*) That's more or less the equivalent of your mother and your internal editor together clicking on inside your head when you sit down to write a first draft, crazy person that you are, and letting loose a monologue about how nobody will take this seriously, and you've never had any talent anyway.

She's a very funny writer.

Any progress on your WIP(s)?

Emily and Rach

So pleased with how well you two are doing with the write-a-thon. Rach, I'm really happy you had that AHA moment and congrats on the 1000 words in one sitting.

Melissa - I like the sound of the tension in your Bite, especially the "set to flame" part (-: Having the hero and heroine know each other (and have had tension before) helps in a short story. It's hard to fall in love with someone realistically (but not impossible) in 15,000 words! In Savage Dragon and Wind Kissed, Fire Bound the heroes and heroines knew each other before the story starts. Btw, the blog looks great so far - I love the banner at the top and the cover for Uncovered Passion is great.

Crystal - you've probably learned so much since you wrote that first story, so working on one of the current ones is probably a good idea. Good luck.

Erica - why not have moving and heat in the same story! A pic of Buffy and Spike (or just Spike would work for me) sounds like a good idea. I like Angel, but Spike is the true redeemed bad boy.

Aileen - wow, you did a great job with August's eBook releases. I have a Bite in Sept and Oct, so any time you want the details for those, please let me know! Congrats on the mention in The Washington Post - that's huge.

On the writing front

I put the cover for my September Bite up on my blog if anyone wants to check it out. The hero is exactly what I imagined he'd look like (heroine not so much, but she's not bad). Emily thought the hero was spot on as well.

The energy around here (and my trip to RWA in DC) has me inspired. While I have plenty of Bites ideas floating around in my head, I'm currently working on a single title paranormal. Then I have to finish revisions on a full Nocturne. And I have two Bites ideas that are really bugging me. So many stories and so little time, but following the advice I've given Crystal, I'm picking one and getting that finished first.

Anna, Thanks for heads up on your September release. I'll go snag the info off your site as soon as the cover is available. Since September 1 is a Tuesday, it will likely be included in New eBook Releases on August 31.

Now all I have to do is stop playing on my blog and focus on the rewrite of my next novella!

Anna's WIND KISSED, FIRE BOUND...

Just ducked over from FB, where I've been putting up Anna's hot new cover on her fanpage.  This place is hopping at the moment, so I had to come and comment!

I lerv Anna's new cover.  Her hero is a yum-fest in the story, and I think they've nailed him perfectly in the cover art.  He's my favourite hero of hers (Although, I really liked the hero in her October release, TAKEN BY THE SOUTH WIND.  And - there's another story, um...  Well, it's hard to pick a fave, but they rock...).

Livia, in WIND KISSED, FIRE BOUND, is a no-nonsense, intense, protector type,  I think she's good in the cover art - not quite what I had in my head - but the stance gels.  But, oh, that man....

Rach and I both nailed our first week of the 'Justbloodygetitdoneathon".  Cool.  So pleased, Rach, that you had an AHA!  moment.  Now I'd better look out, because she's on a roll!  Yay for you, Rach!

Speaking of me dribbling - I did a blog post the other day, it took about an hour and a half, and it seemed kinda big, so I pasted it into a word doc and checked the word count.  OMG.  Two thousand words, exactly.  Not including the title.  It's written like I speak, not like I write, but I sooo wish I could get that kind of output in a WIP.  Couldn't guarantee quality, but....  :)

No news about my Bites sub.  It'll be five months on August 9th.  No feedback from follow-up email, either - they're busy peeps...

I got called into work yesterday (I'm a relief teacher), and I never, ever get any writing done on those days, because I'm torched by 4pm.  But - I supervised a group of seven Year 12's (final year) that had to do a little exam, so I pulled out the pad paper and hand wrote four pages.  Look out Rach!

Now I just have to type it in.  It was necessary, but it feels like doubling handling to me.   How do you write?  I know that our very own Barbara J Hancock (WILDERNESS), writes everything long hand in her first draft (just like JK Rowling!).  What about you?  I find myself doing a bit of both, which is messy, but it works (mostly!).

Aileen, loving your blog posts - keep up the good stuff.

Rach - the big stick made good kindling for the fire.  He is still capable of THE LOOK, though.  Luckily, he goes to work at 5:30am, so thereafter is MY time!  :)

Take care, all, and hope your writing is motoring along.

Emily, who seems incapable of short posts, signing out (finally.  Rach, just read, like, half...).  X

I'm still feeling tired from my long plane ride and could do with some magic!

Aileen - get to work on that novella!  Emily~elove blogged about Internet time suckers recently on her blog - you should check it out.

Lulu - my single title would be more suited to HQN I think (Luna is more fantasy).  I'm going to go the old fashioned route of querying agents once it's finished.  I'm still working on it, but there are some dark and dangerous angels in it and its set in Australia.

Melissa - glad you liked the cover, I hope it does okay too (-:

Emily - thanks for the comments on Livia and so glad you think Rafe is yummy!  Although I think all my heroes are (-:  Hang in there on the waiting - btw, I heard from an Aussie RWA member that she's been waiting 5 months too.

I posted my blog at the Nocturne Authors Blog, so please come and share your fav Nocturne heroines (and what you'd like to see in a future Nocturne heroine).

Busybusybusy

University started this week for me... I find it hard to write when my brain is full up of lots of new and complex information! I'm doing a critical theory subject in prep for honours and it's really hard to wrap my head around (lots of Plato and Aristotle, Wordsworth, Freud, Jung, to read!) but interesting, and another that is complicated but very insteresting is a subject on 'gods, myths, and cults'. I think that one might actually end up being kind of inspirational, looking at all the beliefs and sociology/psychology and theories behind different religions etc in the world. Does anyone else ever just hear some interesting titbit of knowledge or mythology that just sets the plot ideas running?

Emily: Got my fingers crossed that you hear back about your Bite soon (with positive news, of course!). I feel the same way about handwriting... on one hand it feels like double-handling it, but on the other I know that it can be a useful part of the revision/tidy-up process to type it up. Ideally I think writing an entire story by hand and then typing it all up in one go would be the way to do it... that way the typing up can be a definite part of the revision process and not feel so redundant. Also, I find writing by hand stops me from re-reading too much and getting too worried about what I'm writing before it's time to revise.

Anna: Great cover for Wind Kissed, Fire Bound! Not long until it comes out now, either. :) Shorter stories definitely need to make every word count, which is part of the reason I actually think they're a lot harder than say a novel-length work.

Melissa/Anna: I agree that it's hard to write about two people falling in love realistically in so few words. Having the hero and heroine already know each other/have some sort of history is probably a good way of side-stepping that, but I think the paranormal genre also gives us all lots more options (magic, the nature of paranormal beings like incubi/vampires/demons etc) for making it work.

Thanks for sharing this

Thanks for sharing this one! :)

Was Just Contacted by The New York Post...

I received an email yesterday from the features editor at The New York Post. She asked me a few questions about eBook romances, but one really stood out for me. She wanted to know if I thought an increase in reading romances in eBook format was due to the fact that no one can see what you're reading.

I don't want to sway you with my opinion, so I'm just going to say that I've put up a poll here about reading romance in public. I'm very curious what people think.

Anna--Thanks for the kick in the butt.

Emily--Funny post about time-suckers on your blog! I'm guilty of almost all of those.

Hi all, Just coming up

Hi all,

Just coming up for air here.  I've got a month off until I need to be back at work, so I figured I'd get as much writing and cleaning done as possible.  I've only managed a couple of hours of writing so far this month.  My H/H are still exchanging lusty looks at each other.  So much for JuNoWriMo.  LOL  I think I'll do my own LocAugWriMo.  Have a great day!

-Micki

Feeling really very

Feeling really very frustrated today. Soooo many things to do around the house, kids sports etc all weekend, sick dog, always working at things I hate to make money I need. Grrrrrrrr!! How do you all out there fit everything in!!??!! Honestly. I started writing late thismorning and ended up FALLING ASLEEP on my pages. Argh. Just frustrating.

On the positive front I am well over my 1000 words for the week in the justbloodywriteit-athon and now am finding that I am always constantly itching to write more. Which is a GOOD thing, but also part of the frustration.

Time to pick up the kiddies.

How you going Em?

I'm doing ookaaay...

Rach, I have hand written stuff, and since it's not my usual way, I have no idea how many words it is.  Gotta type it up.  Have been getting up at 5:30 to start writing before the kids get up at 7am.  Sometimes it works, but the baby thinks it's cool to get up at 6:05am these days, and then no. 2 at about 6:20.  Hmmm.

Hugs for you.  If you start a petition to get, say, 28 hours in a day, I'd line up to sign it...

Did I also mention my brain doesn't seem to want to get up until about 7:45?  The stuff I do get written is amazingly bad, but I don't seem to notice until I read it later.  Someone who visited my blog recently said that it takes 21 days to form a habit.  Sigh.  I've got well over 2 weeks to go...

Thanks, Aileen, I've been tightening up on the time-suckers I blogged about, and I've found the one I could do much less of was Twitter.  I don't miss it - it's actually hard work to get love!

See, relatively short-ish post...    :)

Happy it's Friday

Thanks for the magic, Dee!

Hi Nellie - good luck with your studies and it's great to hear that you can find some inspiration in there.  I completely agree that the paranormal genre gives you lots of options...for all kinds of things.  Glad you liked the cover for Wind Kissed.

Nikki - Glad to hear you're keeping busy while you wait.  Thanks for checking out Wind Kissed.

Aileen - a call from the New York Post, that's impressive!  I can't say the whole "embarrassed about the cover" thing ever crossed my mind as a reason why sales would be up!  Most people do their reading at home, don't they, so no one's going to see the cover.  That said, I voted on your poll and while I'm not embarrassed that I love to read romance, a couple of covers have made me obscure the cover a time or two.

Micki - hurry up and give those characters some satisfaction.

Rach - the good writing days come and go.  The worst is when you have free time and the words don't flow...I always feel like I've wasted precious time when that happens.  Just remember to keep moving forward, even if it's only a few words.

Emily - Good for you for trying something different with the handwriting.  Like I said to Rach, keep moving forward and don't sweat it if it's not great.  You can fix it later.  Now, if only I can follow my own advice!

I hope everyone has a great weekend and gets lots of writing done (I'm hoping I do!)

Writing with kids??

Emily, you and other writers I've known who manage to write despite the presense of wee ones totally amaze me. I'm still trying to 'find' the time despite the presense of a boyfriend. Your post just reminded me what a poor excuse that is!

Aileen, that's an interesting theory on ebook popularity, but I wonder if the rise in ebook sales is limited to genres with embarrassing covers. I was a paper-only purist until the handiness that is my new iPod Touch converted me -- I got into ebooks before I got into romance. On the other hand, I guess you could compare it to porn, with guys no longer needing to skulk around seedy video rental stores or to hide that brown paper package under the mattress...>:-)

And speaking of poor excuses, I am, right now, not working on my WIP because I'm on here talking about writing. Aren't I a clever procrastinator?

Am I crazy?

I'm still waiting on my Bite sub... but I have this fantastic idea for a full length nocturne series to spin off of said Bite. Am I nuts or what? Don't answer that..lol  Either way, I'm 3000 words in and can't stop now. Sigh... even if said Bite isn't picked up. * fingers crossed here* :-)

ebook Popularity...

Erica---Since there are no statistics on erotic romance eBook sales for us to point to, it looks like all we can do is guess. I'd say, yes, there are probably a lot of women who like to read erotic romance eBook in public on a reader, but is it the major driver behind sales of eBook romances? I don't know. I'll be curious to learn if, as more and more sweet to moderate romances come into the eBook market, not to mention women's thrillers and romantic suspense, how the sales will shake out.

Anna--just went to your Nocturne Bites blog post as well as your site. Looking forward to your WindKeeper series. Also love the dark look of your website.

Catherine

If you're writing, then you're crazy. But, like, good crazy. Wink

I just hit the 5,000-word mark for my Bite, and I'm trying to ignore how much rewriting it's going to need and just plow forward... Is it wrong that, halfway in and after two almost-sex scenes, I've only just reached the first instance of actual dialogue? *facepalm*

Erica...

I don't know if it's wrong. The important question is, "Is it good?" LOL!

Also, it would probably help if after 5,000 words of hot and sweaty, the first bit of dialogue isn't, "And you are?"

:)

But hey, I could probably work with that. :)

Hi/ Intro

Hi--

I've been reading through posts for a while now and decided to finally post.  I love the conversation and support that is going on here!  It's great.

I'm working on both a Nocturne and a Nocturne Bite at the same time which is new for me.  I usually only work on one project at a time.  And I just wanted to say good luck to everyone waiting to hear about the Bites they've submitted.

I'm also a mom who writes around my kids.  LOL.  Though mine are older -- six and 15 years.  But ironically I actually did more writing when my six year old son was home with me during his baby and toddler years.

Also, wanted to say that when I'm "stuck" I often write by hand which sort of turns off my internal editors.  When I was in college creative writing workshops, I wrote first drafts by hand because the computer is sooooo EASY to edit on.  Does anyone use an alphasmart neo?  I have one that I often write first drafts on because I'm not as tempted to edit while using it.  Plus, it's easy to take the bookstore and Starbucks.

Okay -- off for now to get some writing time in!

Erica...

Nothing wrong with 5k in and no dialogue, to my mind.  I've just realised that I'm 2k in and my hero is nameless.

"And you are?" she purred.

"You know, I have absolutely no idea.."

"Well, you look like a Fabio, or maybe a Thor, to me.  Rowr!"

Welcome to the House of Fun, Tina.  Good luck with your writing.

Right, off to think of a name for a sufer/studmeister merman..

This and That

First, I'd like to say that with all this talk about everyone working on their Bites makes me really want to work on one myself. I have a couple possibile stories that I think would fit with the line, so that's not the problem. But, like I said before, I have a novel I've been working on for a while that I want to finish before starting anything new.

The challenging thing I face with my writing at the moment is figuring out how to balance my writing with caring for my 3-almost-4-month old. I would have thought I would've had that all figured out by now, but just as I think I'm beginning to figure out his schedule, he changes it on me.

It kind of sucks because I really enjoy writing everything by hand before typing it on the computer, but since I spend so much of my time just nursing him, I really only have one free hand. On the (not-so?) plus side, I'm getting really good at typing one-handed again.

Yttar

Just wanted to let everyone know...

since you gals are SO supportive, and I so very much appreciate that, that I got my R from Nocturne today. I was, well, bummed. Really bummed. But I'm kinda used to Rs now, so I only had to drown in Mexican food, not Tequila, lol. In fact, I've aleady sent a sub in to another pub on it, so...nothing lost, right? Alas, I should add, there was clearly no chance of revising and resubbing. It's just not what they want. But they did say my writing was clean. Not a bad compliment. :)

Yttar--LOL, I'm almost as fast typing one handed now, thanks to the girls. :)

Good luck,

Dee

Oh, Dee....

Pooper.  Big hugs for you, darl.  Very cool that you've already sent it on it's way again...  You go!

Compliments are nice, though.  Take the edge off... X

Oh Dee :(

That's such a bummer. How disappointing. Especially after waiting and waiting :(   I am so glad you sent it straight on out to another publisher. I think that's so brave of you. I must admit that my R'd bite is in hiding. I plan to make changes on it at some stage and resubmit but that R was so awful I can't bring myself to look at it right now. Whimp that I am. Anyway, glad you indulged in a little something and I hope you are feeling a bit better. I have been over to your blog recently and have read a few snippets of your work. Awesome stuff. Keep it coming. And good luck second time around. All my fingers crossed!!

Rach.

Hugs on the R Dee!! Kind of

Hugs on the R Dee!! Kind of discouraging for those of us who haven't even submitted yet if a writer such as yourself is still getting Rs. Have another taste of something soothing and I think I'll join you!

Not to sound too much like a crazy wannabe, but I am actually jealous of your R. I don't have any of those, because I haven't had the guts to polish up anything of mine and actually submit it somewhere that might, well, R it. I've always imagined that real writers have drawerfuls of these, stored up for the great irony that will be the ultimately wild success of the R'd piece. I think they exist so that later, when a starry-eyed newbie says something like, "You've had it so easy, with all your overnight runaway success," you can smile knowingly and sagely and pull open the drawer to reveal the R's that had plagued that piece before its "overnight" success.

That's how it goes in my head, anyway.  Sending cyber hugs.

Also? One of the first things my heroine says to my hero -- 5,000 words in and after two steamy scenes and one ocean rescue -- is, "What's your name?" *double facepalm*

Awww, thanks ladies...

Lets just say I'm following in Jules's footsteps. :) And while I appreciate the compliment--I truly do--sigh, oh, writers way better than me get R'd too. Just the way of the biz. :)

Erica--well, you're really not wrong. Famously, there is an author who wallpapered her bathroom with her rejections. She's a big author now, so she figured that's just where those Rs belonged. I keep mine--they're proof for tax purposes that I'm a writer--but the best way to get one and be one of the cool rejected kids, lol, is to send out. The only way, really. Come on, join the cool kids. You could surprise yourself and be REALLY cool...they could buy it. :)

Okay, so, back to the drawing board as it were. I have to finish my summer PR stuff and get back to work on the next project. SOOOOO hard to start a new book sometimes. But you know what they say, one word at a time, right?

Hugs all!

That Sucks, Dee...

I'm glad you've immediately resent it to another publisher. I swear, getting into the Nocturne Bites ain't easy.

Would it cheer you up a little that I've got Love Me Knots all cued up and ready to go tomorrow for my "Romance Novel Trailers for a Sunday Afternoon" post? The post with five eBook trailers goes up Aug 2 (tomorrow) at noon.

Tina--welcome to the forum! We've got lots of virtual hugs, kicks in the pants, and chocolate cookies to go around.

Anna & Dee

Anna: Thanks for checking out the blog. When I find time LOL I'll add more. I'm hoping them knowing each other before hand will help propel the story along. We've never done a critique partner (unless you count Chris and I together) so I haven't really received feedback from anyone before.

Dee: I'm so sorry about your R. But I'm sure I'll love it when *cough, cough* other publisher, accepts it. Embarassed When did you submit that bite? I thought it was only in June or am I wrong?

Anyone else: Would any of you be interested in reading the first chapter of a space opera submission for *cough, cough* another publisher? I'd love some input before we sub. Let me know either here or you can email me at mrsgolliday@comcast.net

We are still waiting but working on at least 4 other MS in the duration. No other bite yet, but we've got ideas.

Melissa, I have sent you an e-mail incase you are still looking for a reader volunteer. Feel free to check out my profile, or some of my writing examples on the Write a Date With Destiny 2009 and the Writer's Challenge blogs. Would love to acquire a CP in the future so this may work well for both of us if our writing styles are compatible!

Wow

This place is really hopping.  It will take me awhile to get all the new names straight!

First off, I'm so sorry you got bad news, Dee.  You know we will all buy it wherever it finds a home! I love that you're professional and on top of things and ready to get it back out there.  You're my hero(ine)!

Second, about writing process, I do write everything long hand with black marker pens on  yellow legal pads.  (In a pinch I've been known to use a broken crayon and the back of a McDonald's receipt:>but doesn't *that* sound like an eccentric author?) By the time I type a story onto the computer, it's nearly the final draft. This process is very fast for me and it's also the only way my muse speaks. I don't know how people can be creative and have that word count staring at them all the time.  I never know wordcount 'til the story is finished and it's always as long as it needed to be to tell the tale...give or take:)

I'm not a 2,000 words a day writer.  I'm a sit down and scribble until I have to eat or sleep, then scribble some more writer. In between bathroom breaks and family time, I'm scribbling.  There are times I might even pull my car over to the side of the road to put a line or two of dialogue down before I  forget it. My "writing time" is all the time! lol

But, different things work for different people.  It's taken me years to get my process right for me.  If you aren't finishing manuscripts and you want to finish manuscripts, then it's important to try different things until you hit on what works. Like Anna said, you need to start a project and finish it. Some people can do that with several mss at a time.  Some people get sidetracked into the next and the next and the next without finishing any. (I used to do that:/)

** I think you have to believe in yourself and your story enough to see it through to the end!**

And then send it out into the world where others can believe in it too:>
