Struggling Writers Club 4

Writing is hard work. Whether you're published, unpublished, just starting out, or been doing it for years, sometimes you need a chance to sit back, grab a beverage of your choice, and hang out with others just like you.

In this club, we're all in it together. We wait and hope. Complain and encourage. Share and learn. Sometimes we celebrate. Sometimes we pick ourselves off the ground and try all over again. And we do a lot of laughing, too.

Because, after all, learning this craft and putting yourself out there is really a struggle. So, come on in, introduce yourself and start a conversation.

New Room!

New Room!

Can't believe I'm the first post. Ah, this brings back memories of post races Wink

Just wanted to say hi and take care everyone who will be affected by Hurricane Ike. Cearha, you're in Texas. Do you have to evacuate? I have to go and read the end of the old thread to see what was posted.

Cool

Shaz

It's Official

Shaz is psychic. I thought always knowing when we say her name was huge. But nope. Posting in the new room less than ten seconds after it's made confirms it for sure, lol.

What was the name of that movie? Undecided

 edit : Oh yeah, "Candyman"

Cool

I read over the last posts. Glad your surgery went well, Cearha but yikes on possibly having to evacuate for Ike.

YAY Mary Beth on being able to walk around on the healed/healing foot.

YAY MichelleS on the revisions.

Nice!

 Hi!  It's me!  JC!

Wow. I come back after a long time away, and find what?  A room dedicated to me!  Thanks everyone!  Howdja know? :-)

Seriously, though.  It does fit me well.  Especially considering I've been going through all the old writiings I use to be working on, only to find an unopened letter in the middle of it, dating back nearly three years, from the editor of SRS.  Why did I never open it?

Oh yeah.  Because it was probably just another reject letter.  Right?  I mean, I'd had so many of them, that I'd already given up on writing by the time this one got back.  So, I think my DW just tossed it in the pile instead of giving it to me, because I'd said I don't care about reading any more reject letters and to just throw them away.

So, was it a reject letter?

NO! (Where's the forehead slap smiley?)  It was a "Send me the full" reply!  Yell

Life can sometimes be pathetic.  Know what I mean?

So, anyway.  Nice to be back!  Hopefully, by writer's block is gone, and I will be able to actually push all the way to publication this time.

 Hi Dee!

 Y'all have a good day. :-)

My sanity turned out to be nothing more than a figment of my reality.

hopefully a new writer

Hi ya all

I hope to finish writing some day.  I started this thing when we were in Japan the first time over 20 years ago.  I have the story, plot, love interests, and the end, just can't seem to get them from my fat head to the paper.  I have a very vivid imanagation just a hard time expressing it on paper.  Would love any help anyone could give.  This story is starting to haunt me, I need to release it and soon.......

thanks

New Room!!

Cearha - I have a guest room if you can make it to So Cal.

Lori :)

Cearha--hugs on the gall

Cearha--hugs on the gall bladder and the hurtycane.  Here's hoping Ike downgrades to nothing but rain.

MB--yay on walking!  Woo hoo!

Michelle S.--good luck on those revisions.  You can do it!

Ya ya--welcome, and good luck to you!

Biddy--hope the job turns out okay.

Shaz--you are amazing.  Nailed that first post, didn't you?  :)

I just turned in my revisions on Tuesday and a new proposal to my new agent last week.  Today I managed to sneak in 8 pages of writing.  Yay!  Lord, I love staying home and writing.

James!  Hi there.  Welcome, and hope the writing goes well.  Always, always open your mail.  :)

New Room, almost...

(((((Cearha)))))  So glad to see you, and that the nasty old gall bladder is finally out!  Wish you weren't right in Ike's path!  Stay safe!!!!!  They say by the time it reaches us here in Arklahoma, it'll be downgraded to a tropical storm, but we could still have winds up to 70 mph.  Hoping we don't lose trees, branches, shingles or electricity!

Shaz, your angry yellow face is back!!!!!  LaughingCool  Don't know about everyone else, but I really missed it!

Ya Ya, welcome!  This is a friendly place. You're going to like it here!

James, with Charlie Brown, I say Aaaaaaaarrgh! for you on the 3 yr old invitation for a full.  Don't suppose you could send it now, along with a letter of explanation,.....?  It might be worth a shot.  At least a resubmission with a new cover letter...  (They don't call me Hope for nothing!)

Glad your surgery went well.  Hope Ike leaves you alone so that you can recover!  If you have to evacuate as far as TN, holler at me.  You've got my cell number, don't you?  I sure hope you don't have to evacuate at all, in your condition!  Your body needs to rest and recover, and not in a car!

Shaz, good to see your scowling yellow face.  Congrats on beating us all to the room!

JC, I remember you.  Hate that you didn't open that letter!

Welcome to the insanity, Ya Ya!

looks around the room...Nice and clean.  We could all let our kids loose in here for about, oh, five seconds and take care of that!  (anybody sense a note of frustration there?)

It's been a busy, busy week here.  I'm going to eat a cookie and go to bed.  See y'all!

New room!

Hello everyone! Welcomeback JC.

Welcome YaYa.

DD evacuated. She's home again.  She was going to stay but then her university issued wristbands with emergency contact info for anyone who stayed just in case, and that freaked her out. So she's home with all her laundry.

PT put me back on the walker today. They said it was too big of a change to go from boot and walker to brace and nothing or even brace and a cane. I was sad until tonight when I realized how incredibly tired my ankle was!

My school's team was on ESPN2 tonight for the high school football showdown. We lost. :-( The kids will get home around 3 a.m.

There are teachers giving tests tomorrow. Not me. We're writing.

MB

No evac...

We're hunkered down and will shelter in place. We're only about 85 miles from the coast and in direct line with Galveston Island (landfall point). We can expect massive rain and hurtycane force winds even as far out as we are.

We expect to lose power. Probably for days, if not a week or more.  DH is planning to transport me to a/c in that event after the storm is over. Probably to Austin to DsS's apartment. Let the step-son babysit the ole gal. Heh.

I'm having good days and bad days, but to the point where its more good than bad. Unfortunately, all hurtycane preps have fallen to DH to handle. He has done a stellar job of taking care of things and most especially, me. Blow winds that may, I'm blessed.

Back to the couch and the never-ending hurtycane reports. Are you guys being inundated with constant hurtycane updates too?? I feel verra ala Katrina event since awarenesses were heightened due to that catastrophe. We're not nearly in that predicament. Thank Him.

My Big Yellow Angry Face

Well thanks y'all on welcoming back my Big Angry Yellow Face Tongue out See, this is how people know me on here Wink

Waving to Hope and Trish

MichelleW - congrats on getting in the revisions and a new proposal. Staying home to write is working for ya.

Mary Beth - glad your daughter evacuated is is home safe.

Cearha - hope conditions don't get too bad for you. Ike is very scary. I lurk on a Weather Underground blog and some of the posts by weather enthusiasts and those in the path of the storm are sobering. I hope you'll be able to let us know (somehow!) how you're doing after the storm has passed.

Welcome to the newbies Smile

Shaz

JC!!!

I'm not sure if I'm more horrified that you found a Full Request after 3 years or that the same pile existed for 3 years. Seriously??

But I'm over the moon to see you again, dahlink! (The wife has gotten over her consideration of beating me to a pulp, yes?)

Giant hugs!

Mary Beth, PTL about the dr. putting you back with a walker for a while.  I know it's frustrating and feels like a step backward, but it'll really help the ankle to heal faster!  Glad your dd is evacuated home.

Cearha, oh, yes, I do thank Him for your answered prayers!  Glad your dh is doing well with the hurtycane preps, and that you DO have a place where you can go for a/c!  Just now they said Ike is headed straight for DFW, by way of Galveston!

Shaz, we did like the other yellow face, too.  It's just that this one has happy memories for us!  Wink

Thinking of you all with a shiver of remembrance. Been there, done that! I hope he passes over very quickly. How scary. We are getting lots of wind over here and the water is coming up in low lying areas(i.e. my old house). I went by there this morning and the bayou was way out of its banks and halfway across the yard. So glad that my family isn't there and I pray for the one that is. The house is way elevated, but the family is living in a FEMA trailer and a Katrina cottage.

Just have a sec

I'll make time tomorrow for a proper catchup, but just had to add my hugs and good wishes to Cearha.  I hope, wish, and pray everything goes alright for you.  Take care.

Ike

All morning and the early part of the afternoon, it was warm and we had sunshine (with a few clouds, but still...).  I got my short story ms. ready to go to the post office, we hit the road, and a few little drops fell on the windshield.  Thirty seconds later, it was storming.  I managed to get into the post office with the ms. still dry.  While I was in the PO, the storm blew over, and the sun was out by the time I left.  Weird. Cool

Cearha, MB, stay safe too!  Thanks, Linda!  They told us on the news to remove anything from the yard that isn't anchored so it won't fly into windows or cars, specifically mentioning lawn furniture, and they showed one of those low-rider tricycles.........I remember in a hurricane when I was a kid, Mom and I saw one of those corregated iron roofs flying down the street....  Yikes.  Meanwhile, the cicadas have no idea what's headed our way.  They're chirping away...  Hope none of us loses our electricity!  (((((hugs)))))

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome back, everyone. I hope things turn out different this time. I'd got SO burned out on writing that my muse just lay in the corner with the shakes.  Smoldering.  I'm going to try to find it today if I can.  I'm hoping it comes back. Smile

Ah, she was just going through a rough time back then, Dee.  (miscarriage, DVT, etc)  Things are better now.  Heck.  We've had a baby since then!  Dakota Mathew Mayes.  He's 16 months old.  I'll have to add a pic for y'all.  Laughing

That box of "junk" wasn't three years old, actually.  It had stuff in it from over 15 years ago.  LOL!  Funny how I can keep junk like that, but I can delete a 90% completed wip without so much as a second thought. I might need to get me some psychic yelp or something. :p  Y'all have a good'n.  off to see if I can write something today.

My sanity turned out to be nothing more than a figment of my reality.

Hey James!

Congrats! And hugs to the wife. :) In other news, I've had a baby since then too. Two of em, actually. *scratches back of head and blushes* The girls are 18 months on Monday! (Holy cow, how'd that happen??) And, honestly, I have a few boxes crammed with stuff that's a least a year old. (My OCD is in denial)

You DELETED??? Boy, I oughta wap you something silly. It's not saved on disk anywhere? Sigh. On that note, I need to go back up my work. :)

Big hugs, hon!

How's the ankle doing, Trish?

Danielle, so sorry to hear about your DH's accident, and glad he's recovering.  I envy you your RWA meeting.  What I wouldn't give to have one to go to.

Congrats on the 11 lbs, Biddy.  You look marvelous!!

Tiff, I hope Ike treated you better than Gustav.

Congrats on the agent, Christyne.  Cool

Oh, how I love those baby belly laughs, Michelle W.  What a fun age.  It's wonderful that you're able to stay at home, and it sounds like you're making great progress.

Worrying about Cearha.  Houston was hit hard, I hear.  I have a cousin who lives there, with two small kids.  I hope everyone is alright.

I've been thinking about you too, Hope, and hoping Ike leaves you alone.

My husband is the same, Michelle S.  Since his gall bladder surgery, he only has trouble with fatty fast food.  If ice cream bothers him, he doesn't let on.  He LOVES ice cream.

Nice to see our beloved big yellow face back.  And way to be first in the room, Shaz.  You rule.  Laughing

Good to see you back to writing, JC.  Really sucks about the request letter.  I had something sort of similiar happen to me.  You not only have to open all your mail, you have to read the letter very carefully.  Good luck with your writing.

Ya Ya, you just have to write.  Get that story out of your head and into your computer.  Not easy, I know, but that's what you have to do, one word at a time.

Take it easy, MB.

Linda, I am also so glad you and your family aren't still at your old place.  I feel so bad for the many, many people displaced by Katrina who still don't have a proper place to live.  Thank goodness you do now.

DH pulled a bone-headed move today and invited his parents over for supper without discussing it with me first.  I have soooo much to do today, so he's in the kitchen cooking away by himself.  Smells great, but I'm dreading the visit.  She's been a real handful lately.  Dang, and here they are now.  See ya.  Joyce

All I ask is a chance to prove that money can't make me happy

Ike and in-laws

Joyce, hope the dinner was relatively painless.  And quick!  My ankle is healing.  I'm still keeping it braced, because it still hurts, but most of the swelling is gone and the bruising as well.

Ike is already blowing things around a bit (though not too hard) in
TN.  Amazing how he can reach so far.  It was a warm and windy day
today for our first soccer game.  Without the wind, it would have been
unbearably hot, so Ike came in handy for something, anyway.

Worrying about Cearha, what with so much of Houston being in the dark.  Will be very glad to hear from her again.

Is Hope in that area as well? Hoping that she is safe and dry.

trish

Hi all - long time no see - I followed a Shaz trail and it

brought me here!

I reckon I qualify as a struggling writer at the moment with all the struggles I've had getting the Challenge file ready (a fifty book backlog is a BIG backlog when you read as fast as I do!)

I could nearly have written a few books in the time I've spent blogging this year, but when you add all the words together, maybe I did! Wink

Thank God the boys are back to school and we're all relatively healthy, DH is building a garage but injured his foot just as he was about to start the roof so that's put a bit of a damper on things, he spent yesterday building a desk (6 feet long) so that we can all play at the computer together instead of separately, while I was busy typing up my blog doc and shopping and cooking.

Keeping Cearha and the rest of you that need them in my prayers and thoughts

I'll catch up with the actual news in the posts later

OK here~~~

I imagine Cearha's without power, and probably on her way to dsil's house.  They may be without power a long time.  We're on the AR/OK border.  A lot of our area had damage, but we were blessed this time.  No trees, branches, or power lines on our property down...tomorrow I plan to check the roof, but I think it's all right, too.  MB may be without power, too.  I don't know the exact number but they were saying millions without electricity, and Galveston Island is pretty much underwater.  Thanks for all the warm thoughts, concerns & prayers sent our way!

I fell yesterday & hurt my hand, so I need to keep my typing to a minimum while it recovers.  Undecided  Could have been much worse, however, so I'm thankful.

Hi Sadhbh!

Was that Sadhbh? I've been wondering what happened to you. Miss your mega-marathon posts Smile Looking forward to hearing all your news

I sure hope Cearha moves to where she has air-con. Seems a lot of Houston is gonna be without elec for a while.

Ike was bad, low-lying areas look devastated Cry

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Shaz

Cearah

Hoping that you're okay and have a/c.

Thankfully it was not as bad as they feared - cuz it sure was bad enough!!

My area is in shock over the train crash in Chatsworth.  So sad.

Hoping that this is a calmer week.

HUGS To everyone who needs them.

I figure Cearha is without power, too. DD's school town is without power and the an hour north of downtown Houston.  There's been quite the tug of war with her return this time. She wants to stay out all night and live the college life of no rules. Mom and Dad have to work, so we can't have that life and stay sane. It's created MUCH tension. UGH!

I haven't writtne anything real in ages, but I'm ready to get going again. Fingers crossed the muse agrees.

HI Sadbh and Shaz! Nice to see y'all again.  Hope your hand is better, Hope!

MB

I'm back.... I hope.

We got power today, after being told that it would be weeks without. But not to get too comfy with it. Might be off and on for awhile.

We are safe and fine. No damage or flooding. Heartsick over Bolivar, the West End, Surfside and Galveston Island. The Balinese Ballroom! Surprised *sigh* Murdochs! *sigh* We shall overcome.

Healing from the surgery. Yesterday made the full weeks' recovery. I've set the healing back a bit due to overworking before the storm hit. Thank G for vicodin! I've rationed it like crazy, but there were somedays I had to wonder at the pain.  Hopefully, I'll get to my doctor's check-up and get the all clear this week.

Great to be back and I hope to get caught up with the world soon. Blessed communicaton devices!

Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts. NO. More. HURTYCANES!!!  *Sigh* Hope the weather gods were listening.

Cearha!

Thank goodness y'all made it through safe and sound.  HUGE Hugs to you and yours!

DD's school is closed the rest of the week. They were planning on opening tomorrow, but there's just too much damage, too many evacuees in the coliseum, no power in the town.  It's a mess.

The Sci Guy from The Houston Chronicle said it's very unlikely for hurricanes to hit Texas after Sept. 24. Fingers crossed that stays true this year!

MB

(((((Cearha & MB))))))

SO relieved to see you both!  Glad it wasn't worse.  It was bad enough.  Can't believe all the pictures out of Galveston!  I guess the people who stayed on G. had never read Matagorda by Louis L'Amour (about the big hurricane in the 1800s that wiped that island community off the map).

Hope the electricity stays on for you.  Our friends in northern AR lost electricity for Sunday & Monday, but it's back now.

I'm with you.  No. More. Hurtycanes!

Don't look here. I have no subject!

Lori - yes, the train collision was a terrible tragedy and seems to have been preventable.

Glad you're ok Cearha. Can't be fun recuperating from surgery through this. Hope your power stays on.

Hi MB - Do schools used as shelters make other arrangements for the kids or does all their schoolwork just get pushed back to whenever their school re-opens?

The 'before' and 'after' photos of Crystal Lake, etc are awful. Houses were just washed away.

Hope this is the LAST hurricane of the season Yell

Shaz

Cearha--thank you for

Hey Shaz. They weren't

Hey Shaz. They weren't expecting this kind of damage at DD's school, so they're just pushing everything back. It's university, so they won't have to make up the days. I've heard the K-12 schools do have to make up some of the days.

Does anyone know why it hurts my ankle when I exhale after taking deep breaths? That is so strange! I'm asking PT about it today. I think I start water therapy today. YAY!

Did y'all see Jules on subcare sold?

 MB

Cearha and EllenToo

So glad that you two checked in. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

We had to make up some of the days after Katrina. We did it by tacking on an hour to each day from right after we returned(October 3) to the middle of January. It was tough. People had so much to do after work for their houses and that's when people would work on them and were so exhausted from the less than stellar living conditions. But we had to make it up, because here in Mississippi, you must be in school for 180 days.

I'm with you, Shaz. I hope this is the end of the hurtycanes for this year.

Happy, happy, Birthday, Linda!!!  Have a wonderful day.

Thanks so much for checking in, Cearha.  I'm relieved everything is okay and that you're managing to heal from the surgery with everything that's been going on.  And I hope your power isn't back off again.

I had a fun visit with my grandson this evening.  Yesterday I was complaining to DH that we hadn't seen the baby for almost a week and he asked if I thought Nick might have grown a mustache in that time.  Well, no he hadn't grown a mustache, but he has grown.  And he smiles at us now.  Just warms my heart.

Have some stories to tell, but I can't seem to spell or string two words together tonight so I'll be back soon.  Joyce  Smile
