To Kill a Mockingbird

Quite simply one of the best books I've ever read. I've been stalled at #49 on my challenge blog because of deadlines but also because I couldn't decide which book to post for #50.

Free Your Mind: Offload Mental Clutter!

I was folding the socks this weekend and I realized that I have memorized the sock preferences for three people who aren’t me. My husband and my sons all wear similar socks, but with key differences. If I don’t remember the differences, I can’t get the correct socks into the correct drawers.

Evidence:

An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination

An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination is a slender, heart-achingly beautiful memoir by the writer, Elizabeth McCracken. I have not read McCracken’s other work but I’m going to rectify that oversight promptly.

Here’s how the book starts:

Same Time Next Summer

I was a little worried about reading Same Time Next Summer because I knew there was a hurt child in it. I'm such a softie, I don't like to read about hurt or sick children. But I know Holly Jacobs. She lives in a perpetual bubble of sunshine and so I decided to trust her. I'm glad I did.

In the Woods

It's been a long time since I've been as angry with an author as I am with Tana French. Her book, In the Woods, won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. She's clearly a gifted writer and I got swept up in her story before I even paid for it. The characters were wonderful and her prose is smart and sometimes quite funny BUT...

Dark Needs at Night's Edge

Dark Needs at Night's Edge is the fourth book in Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series. I enjoyed it but not enough to make me look up the other books.

Searching for Dragons

Searching for Dragons was the return trip book after Old Yeller on the way down. I'm not a fan of this book, but it could be because the audio recording was so bad. It was an ensemble cast instead of a reader and the "acting" was really intrusive. Could be a good middle grade book if you read it to yourself--hard to tell.
