Then Comes Baby - Helen Brenna (HSR #1606 - Dec 09)
Series: An Island to Remember (Book 3)
Bestselling horror novelist Jamis Quinn hasn't written a word since Natalie Steeger moved in next door. Mirabelle Island has been his peaceful refuge for the past four years. Now he can't concentrate. Not with that sexy, Goody Two-shoes running a summer camp for disadvantaged kids giving him the wrong kind of ideas.
Natalie always pictured hermits as grouchy old geezers. Her famous hermit neighbor has grouchy down pat. He's also got tall, dark and handsome going on. The No Trespassing signs Jamis hangs on his property are a joke. But the one on his heart is a little harder to ignore. Looks as though she'll have to up her game to get past it.
Good story. I like the kids, and I like Jamis and Natalie.

A Little Christmas by Gail Ranstrom

Scarlet Ribbons by Lyn Stone
Captain Alexander Napier is battle scarred from war and from life. For him, yuletide is just a reminder of all that he's lost. Can enchanting Amalie Harlowe restore light into the festive season and reignite the passion in his heart?
Good stories. I liked all of them.
The Wrangler - Pamela Britton (HAR #1285 - Dec 09)
Series: Men Made In America (Montana)
Time's running out for Samantha Davies.
If it's the last thing she does before losing her sight completely, she has got to find out whether Montana's wild, Baer Mountain mustangs are real or simply the stuff of bedtime stories. And nothing--not even a bullheaded, devilishly handsome wrangler named Clint McAlister--is going to stop her.
How could Clint stop a firecracker like Samantha? So what if her eyes are as green as spring grass? Or that she sits a horse like a cowboy's sweetest dream. Clint almost got his heart broken by one high-toned city girl. All he has to do is keep his hands and his heart to himself until this one goes back where she came from and leaves him--and the mustangs--alone.
Good story.

On the day of his father's death, Andrew gives Caro the idea that she means a great deal to him. But the path of true love never seems to run straight...

All the stories were very good.
No Holly for Miss Quinn - Miss Read (Houghton Mifflin 1976)
Series: Fairacre (Book 12)
Miriam Quinn has never married. She's a kind, but unsentimental lady. By today's standards, she's still young, but fifty years ago she would have been called an old maid! She's an efficient office manger and has a well ordered life that she enjoys. Her plans to spend a quiet and unadorned Christmas holiday painting her new home are abruptly interrupted. Her brother, a minister with a busy schedule calls upon her to come and help out his family. His wife is in the hospital and he needs someone to care for his three children.
Her winter holiday turns out to be filled with her duties as chief cook, housekeeper and substitute mother for her two nieces and nephew. She meets the challenge, but gains new respect for her sister-in-law when she realizes the amount of work that a young mother has to do. Miriam also makes a wonderful Christmas for everyone and meets an old friend from her past.
It has been awhile since I last visited Fairacre, and this was a very pleasant trip. It was very nice to see how Miriam sees things from a different point of view.
Show No Fear - Marliss Melton (Warner 2009)
Series: Navy SEALs Team Twelve (Book 7)
FEAR HAS A WAY...
Lucy Donovan always gets her man. As a fiercely independent CIA agent, she's survived hundreds of death-defying missions. But her latest may just get her killed. Weighed down with a secret she's desperate to keep, the last thing Lucy needs is to be sent undercover with a man who brings out the best--and the worst--in her.
OF GETTING YOU KILLED
Navy SEAL Gus Atwater never turns down an assignment, even if it means working with the only woman he's ever loved and lost. So with a volatile mix of desire and distrust, Lucy and Gus confront their tangled past. Pretending to be man and wife is risky enough, but now the clock is running out. As their mission escalates from desperate to deadly, will Lucy's secret expose them both?
Excellent book. The suspense was gripping and kept me up past bedtime.
Taming Her Irish Warrior - Michelle Willingham (HH #966 - Oct 09)
Series: MacEgan Brothers (Book 4)
When did Ewan MacEgan grow to be so overwhelmingly strong and disarmingly sexy? He intends to wed Honora St. Leger's demure sister -- but why should that matter to her? Honora would rather wield a sword than a mending needle and, as a widow, she knows there is little pleasure in the marriage bed....
Ewan MacEgan has set his sights on a wealthy bride but, tantalizingly, he finds himself drawn to the forbidden Honora! One touch and he is longing to awaken her sensuality, for he suspects she will be as passionate in bed as she is on the battlefield!
Good book. I enjoyed the strength of Honora and Ewan's reactions to it. The ending felt a little rushed, but all in all a very good read.
The Christmas Present - Tracy Wolff (HSR #1607 - Dec 09)
Rafael Cardoza needs a lawyer. A good one well versed in criminal law is the only hope to save the wrongfully accused kid from Rafael's community center. So how does he end up with uptown divorce attorney Vivian Wentworth? The chances of her successfully defending this case are slim to none. If Rafael were smart, he'd show Vivian the door.
Too bad his attraction to her is clouding his judgment. And when he can finally see past his libido, he realizes that there's more to Vivian than her family name and her designer clothes. In fact, she's working so hard to clear the kid's name, they just might win. It's the best Christmas gift Rafael could receive - or would that be Vivian agreeing to stay with him?
Excellent book with plenty of heart and suspense. I loved seeing Vivian work to help Diego, and help Rafael while she was at it.
Hot On Her Heels - Susan Mallery (HQN - Nov 09)
Series: Lone Star Sisters (Book 4)
Dana Birch vowed never to put herself at the mercy of a powerful man. She became a deputy so that she could take care of herself and protect those she loves. Especially her best friends, the Titan sisters...
Twenty years ago, Garth Duncan swore revenge on Jed Titan for abandoning Garth and his mother. Now he's back to fulfill that promise, even if Jed's daughters get caught in the crosshairs. All that stands between him and his goal is Dana, her gun and a growing passion that can't be denied...
Great ending to the series. I loved seeing the sisters work at bringing Garth into the family, and seeing Garth's reactions to this. I love Susan Mallery's books, and this was no different.
So Into You - Sandra Hill (Grand Central 2009)
Series: Cajun (Book 8)
Angel Sabato has been in love with best friend Grace O'Brien for 10 years--but he's only just realized it. Too bad she doesn't take him seriously when he tells her about his feelings. Reeling from the rejection, Angel hightails it out of town.
Now Grace is left to wonder if her problems from the past are keeping her from opening herself to love. But she brushes these "useless" musings aside, concentrating instead on the work she's doing as an apprentice to folk healer Tante Lulu and keeping up with the old woman's good deeds.
Such as starting a foundation to help families still homeless after Hurricane Katrina. One family consists of 5 children who lost their parents. The eldest, only seventeen, has been struggling to take care of her siblings and lying like heck to the state agencies in order to keep everyone together. Tante Lulu and Grace take the children under their wings and decide the foundation will build a house for them.
Re-enter Angel, who helps with the construction. Unbeknownst to Grace, Tante Lulu has decided to try her hand at matchmaking again. And Tante Lulu has never failed before!
This was another fantastic book in the Cajun series. I love Sandra Hill's characters, and Tante Lulu is one of my favorites!
