Wendy Roberts, The Remains of the Dead

Wendy Roberts, The Remains of the Dead: An interesting new mystery series, featuring a woman who both sees ghosts and cleans crime scenes (violent or unattended deaths). There's lots of nifty detail about her job, and it looks like the series will have an ongoing romantic interest.<

Victoria Dahl, A Rake's Guide to Pleasure

Victoria Dahl, A Rake's Guide to Pleasure: I don't think the title was accurate, but the book was certainly hot, hot, hot, especially because both characters were smart, and I love smart characters who can figure things out instead of stumbling along being idiots solely to make the plot more

Liz Carlyle, Never Romance a Rake: this is the latest from one of my favorite historical romance writers, and it has some great angsty tension throughout which I loved.

Karen Templeton, Pride and Pregnancy: this was sweet and cute, and I was impressed that the heroine was allowed to decorate her home with many, many tacky shiny things and wear fake fingernails and have had plastic surgery.

Anne Gracie, An Honorable Thief: I love Anne Gracie; that said, this book was a little sleighter than most of hers. Mainly, I couldn't quite believe that the heroine believed her wastrel father told her the truth on his deathbed when he never had before, and that moment drives the entire p

Amanda Quick, Rendezvous: unconventional girl is told she is to marry dull, boring guy who it turns out was a top-level spy during the Napoleonic Wars. It was a cute, bantering book. I didn't get a real sense of it being a historical, though. I li

Kristan Higgins, Catch of the Day

Kristan Higgins, Catch of the Day: I wasn't thrilled with the teaser about the priest and the secondary romance plot later on--I predicted it easily--but I really liked the nearly-silent hero, and the way his single-word sentences drove the heroine nuts. The beginning of the novel fel

Marjorie Liu, The Iron Hunt: dark, angsty urban fantasy. It took me a while to move into the story, but was very involved once I did so. The demons are extremely cool and inventive.
