Her Last Death: A Memoir

This novel describes what it was like to grow up with a flamboyant, rich, drug-addicted mother and what effects that had on the author in her past and present life. It serves as the author's final explanation as to why she can't finally bring herself to go to her mother's deathbed.

The Fortune Cookie Chronicles: Adventures in the World of Chinese Food

First of all, yes, her middle name is the number 8...and there's a reason.

Ms. Lee argues that Chinese food has become more American than apple pie, if you ask yourself when's the last time you had apple pie, then ask yourself when's the last time you had Chinese food. Interesting!

The Sharper the Knife, The Harder You Cry: Love, Laughter and Tears in Paris at the World's Most Famous Cooking School

One of my guiltiest pleasures is the reality show, "Hell's Kitchen." Therefore, I couldn't help but love this book, which is kind of a higher class version of Hell's Kitchen, set in Paris France, with several sneering, colorful chefs instead of just one.

The King's Favorite

This is a historical fiction written from the perspective of Nell Gwyn, the favorite mistress of England's Charles II. It follows Nell from her humble beginnings to becoming the loved companion of the King, and was clearly written with historical accuracy in mind.

My Horizontal Life

This comedienne wrote a book chronicling her sexual misadventures, before deciding (in her case, quite wisely) to settle down. You'll meet strippers, midgets, bondage enthusiasts, and more. You'll follow Chelsea through escapades that include disavowing skid-mark panties, an M&M costume, and her quest to de-virginize her roommate, who we know only as Dumb Dumb.

High-Spirited Women of the West

I bought this book in the gift shop attached to the (in)famous Bird Cage Theater in Tombstone, Arizona. Having toured the place where so many Western ladies performed, I felt a need to read more about these women. This book is a compendium of historical accounts of several women who managed to distinguish themselves during a time when women were pretty much always just married off to have babies.

A humorous book about a lady, her husband and several pets who take a transamerican trip in a restored VW bus? Chapters named after drinks, complete with drink recipes you can make, and drink while reading each chapter? A detailed index in the back of every place they stopped, with contact information and websites?
