A serendipitous find on the RWAGVC swap table...
I found this book on the swap table at my very first RWA-Greater Vancouver Chapter meeting, and it happened to fit my mood right away, so I read it that weekend. What a treat! Jean Brashear creates well-rounded characters with real problems who fight their way through to satisfying resolutions. I'll definitely look for more (and more recent) books by her.
Hello, Darkness
An engrossing, disturbing thriller novel by a woman who clearly knows her stuff. This is the first book I've read by this author but I'll definitely be looking for more. But only when I'm ready to lose sleep. A late-night talk radio host receives an on-air threat that turns out to be real when the body of a party-girl is found.
A Merger... or Marriage?
Part of the Wilder Family mini-series, this book tells Anna's story. Adopted into a medical family, Anna's always felt like an outsider and as her HMO company is poised to take over the Wilder hospital, she's the enemy. Wonderful romance between her and the hospital attorney, Richard Green, with a nice twist at the end. Good job, RaeAnne!
Lawman
If you enjoyed Carrera's Bride, you'll enjoy Lawman. Family secrets are unearthed when a child predator strikes again and his only surviving victim forced to remember her worst nightmare. Nicely done, as usual.
Caroline's Journal
The journal anticipating her long-awaited first-born, Caroline's Journal also chronicles the trial of a man accused of killing his pregnant fiancee. Emotional and suspenseful, this book is also beautifully written. Highly satisfying.
8 Sandpiper Way
Part of her popular Cedar Cove series, this book carries on in a small-town chatty kind of way about the lives of her characters. As I haven't read any of the other books, I felt out-of-the-loop for most of it, but I can see how readers already familiar with the characters would love catching up with them. Debbie's books are warm and comforting, like a quilt on a rainy night.
Her Four-Year Baby Secret
As a long-time fan of ER (seriously, I've missed maybe three episodes), and St. Elsewhere before that, I love medical dramas. This is my first HMR and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A satisfying romance between a surgeon haunted by feelings of inadequacy (I love vulnerable men!) and a woman determined to keep her past private.
