Techniques of the Selling Writer
Well, I'm not a selling writer yet (those two articles don't count!), but I definitely am working towards being one. This classic on writing popular fiction (first published 1965) is often quoted in writing courses, so I bought it as my birthday present to myself. I am so glad I did!
Miss Pettigrew LIves for a Day
I really enjoyed this charming Cinderella fantasy, originally published in 1938, and recently made into a film starring Frances McDormand as Miss Pettigrew (I haven't seen it yet, from the synopsis I've seen it looks like it does change the story a bit).
The 2 1/2 PIllars of Wisdom
A delightful book, originally published as three novellas, Portuguese Irregular Verbs, The Finer Points of Sausage Dogs, and At the Villa of Reduced Circumstances.
Breathless!
Ooh boy! One iresistable Irish hero here in Rory Flanagan! A bit less of the negative side of the Alpha male than we sometimes see in a Presents hero, and all the better for it! He is the true Modern Heat hero, sexy, gorgeous, and hungry for the heroine Cara; he is sucessful enough without being super-rich.
Delicious
What a fabulous book! It totally lived up to the Modern Heat promise. I stayed up late to finish it- just one more chapter, oh okay, just one more....
Spirit Willing, Flesh Weak
Hysterically funny at times, tears in my eyes sad at others, this story of a fake stage psychic and the investigative journalist determined to debunk her is a real keeper. I'm off now to read everything I can get my hands on by Julie Cohen!
Because of Our Child
This book was interesting because it gave an insight into a world I had little knowledge of- the Hot Shots and Smoke Jumpers who fight wildfires in the US.
Every Woman for Herself
Just fabulous! Reading this sent me straight to Amazon to buy as many of her other books as I can afford! I read this on a long train journey and got a lot of odd looks as I could not restrain myself from laughing out loud every couple of pages.
What Daddy Doesn't Know
Now I remember why I used to read so many Superromances- and wonder why it's taken me so long to rediscover them!
