The Lorekeepers’ Loft: The Elements & Beyond with Christie Golden

As you enter Christie’s domain, the beauty before you stuns you. The snow and ice sparkle like the stars in a cloudless night sky. The pristine white landscape dazzles your senses as you attempt to decide which direction to head first.

To the north is a frozen pond, where you spot families skating together. The scent of roasted nuts waft to you from the bonfires spaced around the glistening ice.

From the south, a gloriously smooth chocolate aroma reaches out to you, as does the laughter of those enjoying the company of friends as they speed down the hills on sleds. You locate the source of the sweet scent nestled below the towering evergreens, a small bar serving hot drinks to all who come.

The east is shrouded in a misty haze emitting from the roof of a wooden structure. You surmise by the subdued conversation floating on the air that it must be the place to head for a relaxing soak in a therapeutic steam bath.
You turn your focus to the west and find to your delight yet another spot for gathering. You witness friends gathered around an enormous circular fireplace set outside where pots of simmering stew warm for everyone to enjoy. The winter wonderland has never looked or smelled so inviting.

As your attempting to choose which direction to go, you sense a presence behind you. Spinning around reveals a massive tiger lounging on the top of a boulder, watching you. As your heart races, you realize that the magnificent beast is only a sculpture carved from ice but yet you feel it has a soul which will spring to life at any moment or at any sign of danger. Upon walking around the artistic masterpiece, you discover two framed works of art hanging above a button with a blinking blue light. The first picture is of a dragon roaring a stream of fire before it. The second is of a tiger springing from a mountain to soar seemingly right towards you.

The square button is for Christie’s use only. When she grows tired of her current surroundings, she can press the blue cube and simply say “Computer, end program. Start Program . . .”

Whooohooo!

Wheeeeee!  Hi Christie and KS

 skipping madly between the boards

 Wonder who else I'll see?

"Of course you don't have wings. You're a boy."

New format

Haha, I think I like it, but it always takes me time to adjust to new things.

How is everyone's New Year going so far?

Christie

Everything is going well.  And in Colorado?  Are you snowed in?

Hi Christie

I hope that the weather has been treating you well! We have had a very mild winter so far.

Snow, where did it went?

It has been pretty mild in Toronto right now.  However, I am biting my tongue in case if I jinx it.

We did have a snow warning and a backed up highway just this week but the amount of snow fallen has been very small.

We are good here!  It's

We are good here!  It's been a little snowier and a little colder than usual; usally the snow melts very quickly and this winter it's stuck around some.  I don't mind the occasional snowy day though....nice to be inside and sip hot cocoa while the snow drifts down!

Well, it had to

Well, it had to happen.

Those of you who have copies of IN STONE'S CLASP, hang onto them.  It is now out of print and I cannot find them online at any stores such as Amazon.com or even at eharlequin.com.

Officially now a collector's item!

Woohoo!

Kind of, LOL I feel bad for those who won't be able to find a copy. I know mine won't leave my keeper shelf except for when I reread it.

Whoo Hoo, Glad I got my copy.

I guess those who are not able to get a copy and borrow a copy from my library.  Somehow they managed to get two copies in their shelves.  ?:-)

Problems with E-book?

I think the mass markept paperback of ON FIRE'S WINGS is still in print, but I doubt they'll be going back to press since there are no more books coming.

By the way, I heard from a reader that while he enjoyed the story of UNDER SEA'S SHADOW, he had problems with the spacing and such of the book that made the reading difficult. Did anyone else have similar problems when you downloaded it? If so I might want to say something to someone, if not, perhaps there was something wrong with the program he used.

I couldn't . . .

tell you one way or the other. I'm still waiting to be able to "read" it or get my friend's money back.Cry

It's quite unfortunate, but

It's quite unfortunate, but it looks like the Dancers are truly going to be no more until and unless I can find a new publishers. However, that won't be for a while--because I am currently swamped with some very exciting media work. What is it, you ask? Well--I can't tell you, it's that hot. I've been asked to keep quiet about four of the seven--yes, seven--novels I currently have under contract due in the next two years. One is due July 1. Eeeep! I will let you all know when I am permitted to discuss it publicly. But the good news is, it's going to be a fun if busy two years.

For those of you in the Denver area, I will be at StarFest this coming weekend, looking forward to seeing you!

That's great news

That's great news Christie.  Thanks for sharing.

One Top Secret Book revealed....

Well, Starfest was where I was finally able to talk about one of my top secret projects!

And I didn't even know it.

There I was, a guest on a panel about upcoming Pocket Books projects into 2009. I knew about "Beyond the Dark Portal," my collaboration with Aaron Rosenberg due out in July, and had seen the cover. And I had just been told that "Twilight," book 3 in the Dark Templar Saga, had been bumped from September of this year to May of 2009.

But what I wasn't prepared for was the following:

Arthas

A World of Warcraft novel

by Christie Golden

April 2009

I laughed like a fan girl. For those of you who follow Warcraft, you know that Arthas is THE figure in the game. Moreso than anyone else, this fallen paladin's story has literally shaped the world. And I'm the lucky one who gets to tell his story. I've been writing since the end of March, on a July 1 deadline, and told to keep it hush hush until Pocket or Blizzard officially announced it. Well, they have, and now you know.

WOWZA, Christie.  Great

WOWZA, Christie.  Great news for you.

Congrats!

That's great news Christie.  I am not a big fan of WoW but I guess now I have to go and find the book and read it.

Congratulations again, Christie on getting the 'motherload'.

Arthas

The nice thing about this is because it's the character's history, you (hopefully) should be filled in as necessary.  While my knowledge of the world lets me sprinkle in the things fans love, it's not going to be an "insider only" type of tale.  It's humming along quite nicely and I'm really enjoying it. :)

With luck I should be able to talk about my other top secret project soon.  I can keep secrets like this if I have to but they're much more fun to share!  :D

Wow Christie thats amazing

Wow Christie thats amazing ! Congrats

Yay!!

Wonderful news!! I can't wait for it to hit the shelves.

Can you leave hints about top secret #2? LOL I know you probably can't but it doesn't hurt to ask.Wink

XD  No, I can't, I'd get in

XD  No, I can't, I'd get in trouble.  And no one wants that. :)  I'll speak as soon as I may, I promise.

Top Secret, uhm???

Wow, you sound really busy Christie....

Now if there is a way for us to get a conclusion for our Dancers Series.... I really hit having a series stop mid-way especially when everything is heating up between Kelva & Jareth and they are on their way to meet the next (and final??) Dancer.

Man, who do we need to beg and bribe to get this beloved series back in print (!!).

Ok .... now that my ranting is over (at least for now) ... are the other 'top secret' projects in the realm of Fantasy or SciFi?  Please don't say both ....Smile

Ame ^_^

Aw, thanks Ame.

Aw, thanks Ame.  Unfortunately I don't think that's going to be any time soon.  However, the Dancers series does seem to have the lives of a cat, so who knows?  Plus, honestly, this year has been so full of (really wonderful!) surprises that I'm still wide open to the unexpected bounty of a positive universe. :)

Sorry I haven't been around, but things are really, really busy right now.  ARTHAS is coming along great--I am very happy with the "voice".  For those of you who know the game, the three point of view characters are Arthas (duh!), Jaina and Sylvanas. :)  I think this is what readers have been waiting for and there's lots to sink my teeth into.

I've also just signed contracts to do two WoW Manga short stories!  One is humorous, one is dramatic, and I hope to perhaps do a full-length manga next year.  My editors at Tokyopop have been terrific to work with.  I'll let you know when the stories come out.

I'm going to be working 6-10 hours a day, every day, through June...and I have two sets of houseguests coming in this month...Eep...Better get back to it.

PS: My website is undergoing extensive revision shortly...will let you know when it's doine!
