Love and Magic with Deborah Hale

Deborah Hale was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, and grew up in that aptly named "picture province" where her ancestors first settled in the early 1800s. While earning a degree in special education from the University of New Brunswick, Deborah met her future husband at the campus bookstore on the morning J. R. R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion was released.

Deborah has written a dozen more award-winning historical romances for Harlequin Historicals, with settings that range from 12th-century Wales to Whitehorn, Montana, and even her native eastern Canada. A longtime fantasy reader and role-playing gamer, Deborah was thrilled to be the first in-house author commissioned to write for the new LUNA fantasy imprint.

With four school-aged children, Deborah calls romance and fantasy writing her "sanity-retention mechanism." On good days, she likes to think it's working!

Hi Kim!

Hi Kim -- Happy New Year! Kiss  The new Community look seems pretty cool, eh?  It'll take a while to find my way around, but after a quite eyeball, I like it!  Cheers to the eHqn Team for all their hard work getting it up and running at such a busy time of year.

I'm still up to my neck in revisions on my historical, but now that the family are all back at work and school, I'm making better time.  Hope you and the family had a good Christmas!

hey Deb. Put a request into the Library system for the Bride Ship and picked it up today. So of course I read it in one sitting. Great story and I appreciate how hard you worked to finish it.

So just a few words of thanks  and please keep it up.

WOW

Wow, I'm gone for a few months and everything changes. I hope that everyone had a great Christams and Happy New Year.

Deb, I hope the revisions/writing are going well! How has the weather been up your way? We have has such a mild winter so far. It scares me to think of what the summer is going to be like.

Welcome back, Mickey

Hi FF!

Thanks for the welcome back FF. I was a little shocked to find everything so different. I do not have much time to be online anymore and had no clue that changes were in store for the new year. Thus far I have not decided if I like it or not.

MickeyWink

for or against

There are VERY mixed feelings about this upgrade.  It provides some nifty features, but does away with others that were great. Mostly, for me, it adds a lot of bells and whistles that I don't need or want. Oh well.

well I've mainly found that the upgrade doesn't work very well and I give it thumbs down.

Two thumbs downs

I have to agree, I am not finding it very user friendly. Yet I will say that I am pretty tired and not running on a full tank of gas by the time I get to log on at night.

It has nothing to do with

It has nothing to do with being tired, hungry or late at night. IT JUST DOESN"T WORK WELL.

I had a friend who I sent a request to, she never got it and it showed up on my part as just not being accepted. I tried twice and then cleared it. but when she made the request, it went thru. When there are a lot of pages and even though you want last it keeps opening to the first page, For my part they took what wasn't broken and broke it. This is my only way to reach some of my friends and that is why I don't just walk away

Hey Barbara,   Sorry

Free at last...for a little while

Hi Everybody!  Sorry I haven't been around to chat.  I was chained to MSWord day and night through January rewriting my manuscript.  I sent it in yesterday then put away my Christmas decorations. Embarassed  I had taken the tree down, but the ornament box was still sitting in a corner of the living room and all the wreaths and things were still up.  Now to clean the rest of the house and get reacquainted with my family.

Barbara, so glad to hear you enjoyed The Bride Ship!  It was fun writing a story set in the local area.  I grin to myself every time I drive my the music pavilion on the Bedford highway.

Sorry to hear folks are having trouble with the site upgrade.  I may be sending a holler asking how to do things.  Like -- how do you initiate a Buddy request?  I got some from others and approved them, but I'm not clear on how to initiate one.

Hi FF, Mickey, Six, Sapph, Aline!  Hope 2008 has been good to you so far.  Our weather has been all over the place.  We had a mild spell early in January that felt like April, then it got very cold again.  We've had several storms, most of which have started with snow, turned to freezing rain, then rain, then gotten cold again.  Does that ever leave a hard, bumpy mess behind!  But our local groundhog DIDN'T see his shadow on Saturday, so hopefully we will have an early spring.  With December so cold and snowy this year, it already feels like we've had a loooong winter!

how do you initiate a Buddy request?

You click on the little blue name at the top of a person post (e.g., Fake Frenchie) That will bring you to the profile page. Then, you just click on "add as a friend".  When the person sees the pending request, he/she will either accept or deny your request.  But no one will deny you!LaughingWink

Turn down Deb?!? Never!  I would rather cut off my right hand...and I need it desperately for my 10-key.  Can't do 10-key with my left to save my life. Wink

You're welcome, 6!

DEb, I see on your bio that you have written 3 online reads.  I only read Midnight Masque (?) and Sorcha's Secret. What was the other one?

Ask and ye shall receive...

Thanks, FF!  Knew I'd just have to ask and somebody would clue me in.  Smile  You and Six can expect Buddy invitations from me very soon.

The other on-line read I did was my first, Mistress of His Heart which spun off the novella Cupid Goes to Gretna and the novel Lady Lyte's Little Secret.  It was my first for E-Harl.  It's on the On-Line Read Library of the Mills and Boon site, which I believe is millsandboon.co.uk  (with the www first).

Hi Deb !! How are you !

Hi Deb !! How are you ! 2008 was kind of a downer, I had to put down one of my cats. He was just 14 months old...

Other than that things have been wonderful !

Lost and kitties

Hi Kim -- I still haven't caught up on the episodes from the end of last year.  I figure I'd better do that before I watch any new stuff.  I haven't liked the show as much since the first season, though I do like most of the original characters.  Thanks for the birthday wishes for my dd.  She's very excited to be working on costumes for The Producers for her coop program at Neptune Theatre.  Since the costume department is a bit short-handed and they have 160 costumes to make, she'll probably get to do more than she did on the Christmas production.

Sorry about your kitty, Sapph.  Cry  It's especially tough to lose a pet when they haven't had a long, full life.  Are you getting as sick of winter as I am?  The long range forecast on the Weather Network for February is showing lots more snow for the Maritimes.  At least the days are starting to get longer...

Did Timmons get the huge snowfall that hit southern Ontario on Saturday?  In Halifax we were lucky to get the precipitation as rain.  If it had been snow, we'd have been buried!

The first book of my new series has been accepted and I'm hard at work on the second one.  Still no release dates of titles yet as they're talking about releasing them close together and doing some things with covers and/or titles to tie them together.  It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

And I see that FF is the Featured Member this month.  Cheers, FF!!  Cool

It's been a tough week to stick with the writing scedule with my three youngest kids home for March break but I've managed to make my minimum daily quota -- sometimes by the skin of my teeth, mind you.  I may lock myself in my office this weekend and write since the weather forecast calls for snow from Saturday until Tuesday.  Frown

St. Paddy's leprochauns must work for Santa Claus on the off-season because they brought us frigid winds straight from the North Pole!

The Easter bunny managed to bring some sunshine, though the breeze is still pretty nippy.

I got a nice Easter present from my editor in the shape of approval on my second book proposal.  Hopefully the release dates and titles won't be an April Fool's surprise! Wink

Hey Aline, are you back yet from the RT convention?  How did it go?  Hope you had a terrific time.

Spring has finally found the Maritimes!  It got very nice all of a sudden.  I kept expecting it to turn nasty but no sign so far.  I was even able to BBQ the past couple of nights.

The HH wip is coming along.  I should hit the 2/3 mark in the next couple of days.  This past weekend I attended the launch party of a friend who's first book has just been released.  It was acquired for the Everlasting Love line, but got put into Superromance, which I think is a good home for it.   Heart of My Heart by Stella MacLean -- a great blend of contemporary romance and women's fiction.

Hmmm, wonder what happened at the airport. I'll have to ask one of them.

We had breakfast together on Saturday. Aline, Lorie, myself, my sister, Donna (a board memeber who has been epublished) and Maria V. Snyder all met up in the lobby. Jeri Smith-Ready was supposed to be there also but she got detained.

Kim's breakfast

What a great group to get together, Kim!  That's probably the best part of any conference or convention for me -- meeting up with people I know from the Community or other on-line groups.

Though I'm still in shock from a chance elevator meeting with the Bat-Dame at RWA a few years ago.  I guess I'd sort of pictured her like the wise-cracking old broad on the Shoebox greeting cards.  She really should call herself the Bat-Babe. Cool

Glad to hear you had a fantabulous weekend, FF!  Some rain isn't bad, espeically if most of it comes at night.  And it sure beats snow and ice.

The d/h got our taxes e-filed today.  Canada's deadline is later than the US, and we have even more time because I'm self-employed.  Thanks to our eldest's educational deductions, we should be getting a nice refund.  Smile

May is going to be busy with my twins going on a school trip, my folks celebrating their golden anniversary and my deadline at the end of the month. Tongue out  I only have another 20K to make my word count, but as usual I've got too much story left to tell.  So I'll let it go as long as it needs, then cut, cut, cut in revisions.
