Can you help me find a book?

I don't recall the title of this book or the author, but it is a Silhouette Romance which was published during the early to mid 80's. The heroine works as an assistant to a granfather type figure who retires and sells the company to the hero of this book. While going through the company's financial books, the hero notices some discrepancies and believes the heroine has been embezzling money from the company, when in fact the previous owner allowed her to borrow money to care for her terminally ill mother ( I think the mother's name was Lucy). Because of the hero's attraction to the heroine, he gives her an ultimatum; marry him and have her mother receive the best care possible or go to prison. Of course, she chooses to marry him. The heroine is allowed to continue her visits to her mother, whose condition don't get any better. Right before her mother dies, the heroine tells her that she is pregnant. Some months into the pregancy and marriage, the heroine leaves the hero. With the aid of a private investigator, the hero finally tracks down the heroine and their baby girl (whom the heroine has named after her now deceased mother). When the heroine is found, she is working from home as a typist who has been hired by the private investigator posing as potential customer.
The cover of this book has the head and shoulder shot of the hero and heroine with the hero posing behind the heroine. The hero has dark hair and tanned skin and the heroine has white blond hair with pale skin.

are you sure that was a silhouette romance?

that plot sounds more like a Harlequin Presents ...

"Because of the hero's attraction to the heroine, he gives her an ultimatum; marry him and have her mother receive the best care possible or go to prison."

I know this!

One of my favorites to go back and reread. It's....

 THE SPANISH GROOM
    Lynne Graham
    5/1999
    Rom/C

IT STARTED WITH A RING...

Cesar Valverde was the man with everything -- stunning good looks, wealth and a bachelor lifestyle.  But Cesar knew it would please his ailing godfather more than anything if he got married, preferably to Dixie Robinson....  Well, perhaps a temporary engagement to Dixie would be enough to please Cesar's godfather.

AND ENDED IN MARRIAGE...

But Cesar discovered Dixie was a beautiful, sensual virgin, and he couldn't help but make love to her.  Cesar's bachelor days were over!  Within a week, he was standing at the altar, and Dixie was his bride -- though unbeknown to Cesar, she was now also the mother of his child!

It does sound like a Presents but that cover sounds like a Silhouette. Doesn't Diana Palmer have one with a story like this? I'm not sure.

OOPS

I post then come back and see all those new posts on top of mine with the possible answer.

Margie :)

You're right, Margie ....

I just checked the cover of the Lynne Graham HP, and it's a shot with the brunette heroine being carried in the arms of the latin hero ..... so that doesn't sound like the book that Mrs. Rozwell is looking for   :(

Really....

I know this one...I can see the scene when the hero finds the heroine again....he's got a teddy bear for his baby in his hands and he's nervous about knocking on the door and seeing the heroine after so long.

Ohhh...

This is killing me! ROFL I want to sit here and look through my books but I've got to go get my youngest two girls into bed. I did have a thought though....for some reason, I'm thinking Janet Dailey right now....one of her older books.

THE HOSTAGE BRIDE
Janet Dailey
6/1981
Rom/C

Beneath Tamara's cool beauty lay a dangerous secret -- she had borrowed company funds for a desperate family crisis. But before she could return the money, ruthless entrepreneur Bickford Rutledge took over the firm.

Bick was a handsome, hard-driving man who always got what he wanted -- and he wanted Tamara. When he discovered the truth, he offered her a choice. She could escape the law's revenge -- if she surrendered to the smoldering passion of the one man who ruled her destiny -- a man who would own her, body and soul!

This is Silhouette Romance #82
