Offices and Flowers.........

I finished the office today.  Wow!  It looks like a totally different place!  And I've totally discovered just how much of a Pack-rat my DH is!  LOL  I mean why else would you keep a small box with Voila! Styrofoam in it?!?!?  Laughing  I'm just hoping the trash collectors will take all my extra boxes that are beside the container!

I did find a few things in the process though!  My bread machine paddle that I thought had been lost forever when we moved!  My bread is rising right now!  My smiley face alarm clock - shocking, isn't it?  Yeah I already got rid of the smiley face phone!  That was just the coolest!!!!  And when I get to work from home, I'll have a great set up by the window!  LOL

Now, I'm going to try and force some hyacinth bulbs for the first time!  I've been wanting some for years and I just found some bulbs on sale that already have green tips on them!  Smile Does anyone force bulbs?

Fear...

I'm scared to clean out my spare bedroom. Who knows what I will find?

Congrats on finishing it though!

Excessive Accumulation

I keep thinking I need to have the folks from Clean House/Clean Sweep/Life Laundry come in and just rid my place of the "stuff" I've accumulated over the years.

Cleaning out...

I'm so excited because I'm finally getting a REAL office at work!  I'm one of the employees who travels so I've been shuffled around every year since I started there and this year I've already been moved once at the beginning.  But now we are having our own section to hang out and I'll have a real office with four walls and privacy so I can finally unpack some of that junk from years back when I had a real office.  That will clean out SO much junk from my house!  I can't wait!

Pack Rats

I live in a family of pack rats.  I clear an inch of space and they see that as an inch they can fill.  I was looking at the dining room table today and trying to remember the last time it didn't have a bunch of junk on it.  I need to get serious about doing some more dejunking.

I hope the baby fairy does make it to your house this year.  I just found out that a girl I knew in high school had twins a few months ago.  That's great for her, but scary to me as I know how old we are!

Julz - That is one of my goals for this year - organize.  Usually, I spend MLK day doing some of that, but this year I am hooking up with some friends for a girls day out.  I really want to do some organizing though, so I may take a day or two off from work and try and get some done.

This is my year

One of my big goals for this year is to de-junk the house, garage and storage shed. I told my husband this before he left for training in Kingman. He was like, "but we're not moving yet, why bother"? I had to remind him that this is the first time we have ever lived anywhere for move than 4 years and that had always necissitated mucking out. We have been in our current house 9 years and there is junk hiding everywhere!!! I actually look forward to some audiobooks and some nice cleaning sessionsWink

Oh Julz .........

Wanna come to my house and teach me how to declutter!  ... I'm a horrible packrat too Undecided   ..... bravo though on getting that job done!  ..... you are an inspiration Smile

About your hyacinth bulbs ....... when did you want them to bloom?  .... technically hyacinth, crocus, tulips, daffodils require a "cold" period  in order for them to produce strong stalks ..... hyacinths can be grown indoors in a number of ways .... you can get a hyacinth jar that you rest the bulb on, I think there is pebbles at the bottom, and you cover the pebbles with water (I've never done this so you may want to search the web ..... or they way I've done it, plant two or three bulbs (root crown down) in a 6" dia. pot with the bulbs spaced about 1.5 - 2" apart .... cover them with soil ...... water very lightly .... then place the pot in a paper sack and put it somewhere cold but not freezing ... if you have a cold cellar, or your garage if not heated .... or I've even put it in the bottom crisper of my fringe ........ then forget about the pot for several weeks ...... if you want the hyacinths to bloom for Easter (which is early this year, March 21) then pull out of the fridge around Valentines .... place in a nice sunny spot .... watch how quickly it grows, if is seems to grow too quickly (thin leggy stalks) then reduce the amount of sun or warmth  ....

for forcing don't be disappointed if your first attempts are not quite what you expect .... I've found it's a trial and error thing depending on when you start, how you plant them, and where you chill them .... and hyacinths may be a little trickier than some of the other bulbs

be sure to take pictures when they are in bloom! ..... I'd love to see how they turn out Smile

Amazing....

how much stuff we have, isn't it?!?!?  I just cleaned out my closet that I keep my Christmas stuff in and managed to throw out more junk!  I've been sick the past few days so I've been reading and resting rather than tossing and cleaning!  I really wanted to clean this week too b/c my SIL is coming for another visit on the 27th.  I have a few days off next week to clean but not as much time as I'd like to take!

Hyacinths

Thanks for the advice Katherine!  I will definitely take some pictures!  Hyacinths are my favorite flowers!  I was just outside awhile ago and noticed that my daffofils and tulips are starting to come up!  Of course, we're getting snow in here in GA this weekend!  Wink  Thank goodness for pinestraw!

cleaning....

Woody ~ Wouldn't it be great to have them come "Cleansweep" our houses?!?!?  Laughing  I'm all for it!  But I have to admit I'd be afraid of what they would find!  LOL

Debi ~ Lucky you!  Isn't it nice to finally have your own space?

Sandi - I can relate!  My dining room table is rarely clean for more than a week or two!  Congrats on your friend who had twins!  I have two friends who are pregnant and I'm hoping they'll share their water with me!  LOL

Cady ~ Have a great time on your GDO!  You can always clean but how often do you get a whole day out to have fun!?!?!

Bonsal ~ Good luck with the dejunking!  Isn't it terrible how much stuff we accummulate and "forget" we have?

Katherine ~ LOL  Here's my "declutter" theory - If I haven't used it in the past year and it's not something I want to keep for sentimental reasons, then it goes.  I so do not want to turn into my mom (only when it comes to clutter)!  LOL  And she knows I feel this way so it's not like I'm saying something to hurt her.  And it's not like I'm a neat freak or anything b/c I'm not but I just hate a bunch of stuff laying aorund that I'm not gonna use!

Purging...

I have been cleaning/sorting and purging for the past few weeks.

Well, first I have to clear out the clutter, then I can to do the scrubbing and cleaning.  It is amazing how much junk a person can accumulate.

I have been giving stuff away, selling some stuff and posting stuff on ebay.  I have also been taking bags and bags of stuff to Goodwill.

I had somethings I bought that i hadnt even opened yet. I sold a camera printer dock to a co-worker last week, and today someone is going to buy a DVD player I havent even opened.

I am getting rid of some of my Highlander stuff....put them on ebay yesterday.

We are all packrats in this

We are all packrats in this house...and a major dejunking would be a wonderfull idea, if it worked. lol

I've often started cleaning with the idea of dejunking in mind...but too many things get put aside and kept...just in case...again. I'm just noo good at dejunking. Embarassed

Maybe with practice i'll get better? lol

clutter......where does it come from?

I swear that elves bring it in the night.

I am always donating stuff to the thrift stores.....having garage sales every few years and still there is clutter....

I am good about keeping it behind closed doors.....but all my closets could use a good pairing down....The basement is my domane.....(old house with a short basement and my husband is very tall) I clean this thing every spring and still it is full.     This past year with Amber moving home with all her stuff did not help.

My desk drawers really need to be cleaned out....but I just never make the time...

I always feel proud of the fact that I can hide my mess....I keep my house picked up and tidy at all time.....but it is almost always "dirty" as in needing vacuumed, floors need to be swept and washed and the windows are always yucky from the dog looking out....and usually have dust webs hanging from the corners.

My husband and daughter come in and lay things down and walk away from them....drives me nuts.....Hubby is forever putting his coat on a kitchen chair........we have a coat closet and there are hooks in the laundry room that you have to walk through to get in the house from the back door ....(the one the family uses)  His briefcase also seems to end up on the table......when he could put it on the craft desk in the office just as easily....just a matter of making a left turn when you come into the kitchen instead of walking across the room to the table....

I did get a compliment the other day that made me feel very good.  Amber came home from visiting a friend and she said thank you for always keeping the house tidy and mostly clean...........I guess the freinds house was a little out of control.....the kitchen had dirty and clean dishes all over mixed together....which to me is discusting.......Dishes are the one thing I do compulively....and I don't have a dish washer....wash dishes at least 2 times a day...

I generally try to get rid of stuff I have not used in a year....but do have a few things in containers in the basement that I keep for years because I know that I do use them every once in a while......but have 2 containers labeled this way......so have to go through them every once in a while if I want to add to them....because if the stuff does not fit in just those 2 something has to go.     Mostly party stuff like big divided serving containers and decretive baskets and the puch bowl / cake server.

I better say goodbye....I have a tendency to write a lot....bye everyone.    Lisa

flowers

I got carried away on the clutter stuff I forgot to mention the flowers.

I am always so envious of people who can grow flowers...I have tried in the past to start things from seeds and never had any luck.....the squirrels ate all my tulip bulbs the year I planted them.

I usually buy plants and re-pot them all over the yard....this past year did not get to do it because had no money and they are very expensive....so put out a few silk flowers instead because could not stand the thought of no pretty flowers.

Amber brought home a big spring bouquet for the kitchen table the other day when she got some groceries at walmart....I love to look at them.

Take care everyone....Lisa
