I stink at New Years resolutions. Invariably, by the third week of January, I'm done.
But not this year. This year, I'm challenging myself to write at least 30 minutes a day. Every day, no excuses. Some of you are already doing more than that, but for me, it's a huge deal. I work a full time job, do the family thing at night, fit in 3 or 4 nights of Tae Kwon Do a week. Occasionally, I sleep. And all too often, my writing, gets put aside to take care of homework, chores, shopping.
I finally said "enough excuses." I need to write. Not want. NEED. If you write, you probably know exactly what I mean. It's exercise for my brain, and food for my soul.
So far, so good. I've written every day since I started my challenge to myself. Some of what I've written is downright awful. Some of it is surprisingly coherent. But all of it is important to me. As one of the SRS writers once said -- and I wish I could remember who it was so I could give her the credit! -- "You can fix garbage, but you can't fix nothing." Ain't that the truth.
30 minutes a day, Every day. No excuses.
Are you up for the challenge?

re: writing 30 minutes a day
That is a fantastic challenge...my writing has been suffering lately due to school, so I think I might have to try this myself. Even on days when I'm crazy booked up I should be able to find 20 minutes on my lunch break and then another 15 later.
Last year I was doing so well...I had challenged myself to write 1000 words each weekday and 3000 each weekend day, and I kept it up for five months...but I had a lot less on my plate then.
I absolutely love "you can fix garbage, but you can't fix nothing." Thank you for sharing that...I think I may have to put that on the front of my notebook!
30 minutes
But I'm not writing. I'm riding my exercise bike at least 30 minutes every day. Good luck with your resolution.

Thank you, ladies!
Thanks for the comments, Lady Amalthea! I'm glad you're going to give it a try. I'm really enjoying the challenge to my creativity (not to mention my time, LOL!) Good luck!! Oh...and I really really really wish I could remember who told me that about fixing garbage, because it's what I tell myself over and over and over again as I stare at a blank screen. I owe her a huge thank you!
Good for you, Fake Frenchie!!! Managing that every day is a feat in and of itself!!
And thank you both for the comments!! I've never blogged before, and I was so completely excited to see people had actually read what I'd written!! I'm such a geek! :-)

Difficult, I know, and you've heard me whine about it. But i will tell you this. Yesterday I had to wear a belt to school. My pants were a bit...baggy!

and yes Jodie - I can understand the need to write
For me I can satisfy it on the boards most of the time, because when I
keep my inner readaholic satisfied I don't "need" to write
I am a readaholic rather than a writer, so when I run out of books I tend to write to meet the need for something to read
Luckily for me I have a reasonably healthy TBR at the moment (slightly less than a year's supply in reserve = 800+ books
)
I'll be rooting for you, let us know how you get on

Got Books?
Love to Lock in, but....
Wow! I would love to say I want to do that, but I know I can't....I am aiming for 30 minutes a month! That's a little more "practical" for my crazy life!
