I've been reading from my keeper pile for the last week. Three Dorothy Garlocks, one Amanda Quick, one Joan Wolf. Probably read one more Joan Wolf next.... Three of my favorite authors
That makes me wonder....Who are some of your favorite authors and why?
Here's why I like these three.
Dorothy Garlock writes believable heroes and heroines. These people could be your friends and neighbors. The stories that she creates for them are also written in such a way that you believe that it could have happened.
Amanda Quick writes stories page turners with fiesty heroines who don't really fit in with the rest of society, but somehow make a place for themselves. The heroes like this about them and generally wind up doing their bidding.
Joan Wolf's writing style for some reason draws me in and keeps the page turning for me. I really get inside the heads of her characters and that helps me relate to them.
These aren't my only favorite authors, but they're the ones that I've been reading lately.
So tell me who are your favorite authors and why?

This is going to be obvious
My favorite authors and why:
Lori Foster - I love her strong male characters and spunky females. I find them very real no matter how crazy the subject. Also, so many of her books are tied together while still able to stand alone. I enjoy those sneak peeks in to a previous character's life.
Lora Leigh - She just rips my heart out and puts it back together all in one book. I love her writing style and the emotional depth she establishes with her characters. My stomach flip flops everytime I read one of her books. Oh, and they are HOT too. lol
J.R. Ward - The Brothers. I want to eat them all up!
J.K. Rowling - She really pulled me out of a reading slump when I picked up Harry Potter. I hadn't read a book in months and then I read Sorcerer's Stone and I was hooked all over again.
Alison Kent - Her books are so exciting. I love her style of writing and know when I am reading one of her books that everything is going to be perfectly linked together by the end of the book.
Vikki - I could go on and on and on, but I'll stop with the above. I only listed those because the are my tried and true and know they will never let me down. And that reason applies to all of the above as to why they are my favorite.
Diana Palmer is a favorite
Diana Palmer is a favorite of mine...I just love the Long Tall Texans series because it allows us to see the characters evolve after "their" book.
I love Susan Mallery's books, because the characters aren't always black and white and there is a certain sense of humour in her books.
Tessa Radley is rapidly becoming an auto-buy. I have not been deceived by any of her books!
Favorites
I have so many favorites. But my first favorites were Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, Linda Howard, Jayne Ann Krents and her a.k.a.'s. I think I have read everything they have written, if not, it is probably only one or two books. Other firsts were Diana Palmer and Elizabeth Lowell. In Historical's it was Mary Balogh.
Now I have so many more and amoung them are Lori Foster, Jessica Bird/J.R. Ward, Emma Darcy, Karen Templeton, Julie Miller, Emilie Rose, Miranda Lee, Erin McCarthy, Lisa Kleypas, Stephanie Lauren, Julie Garwood, Diana Duncan. . . there are more but those are the ones I can think of now.
Most of these, if not all, have heroines who are smart and spunky, and can hold there own against the heros. I like that the heros from most of these authors are usually really into the heroine from the beginning of the book even if they are not sure about marriage.

so many good authors...so little time
Y'all have mentioned some good ones...Its hard to keep up with the release date of all thes fabulous authors.
I would like to add one other that is just an autobuy for me Suzanne Brockmann!

Too many . . . .
Naming the authors is easy. Saying why, for me, is hard. This is why I don't write - I suck at putting things into words. Maybe the one quality that all my favs share is a sense of humor. To me, there really has to be some somewhere in the story. It can be total chaos, or just to break up the tension occasionally. I think that's a must. Because who can get thru the day without laughing?
So, some of my favs are: Nora, Agatha Christie, Carole Mortimer, Janet Evanovich, Stuart Woods, JR Ward, Miranda Lee, Julie Miller, Julie Leto, James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, MaryJanice Davidson, Alison Kent, Jennifer Crusie, Lori Foster, etc. . . . . I really could go on for a while. So quitting before everyone falls asleep

Everyone can afford to give away a smile!

why I love authors
I love authors who change how I feel, think or something like that. I really would have a hard time making a list because my list keeps growing. From Rita Herron's dark suspense to Liz Fielding's tender romance, it isn't a particular type but how their stories move me intellectually, emotionally, and / or spiritually. I am still discovering so many authors that I need to read many more before I can really give a list.

Jayne Ann Krentz (also as Amanda Quick and Jayne Castle - Not necessarily the older stuff. I haven't read enough to know): I've said this b4 but... I love her characters. The heroines have so much intelligence and independence but are spirited and loveable, the heros are deep, and usually have sufered some emotional scarring, but they work past that for the heroine (and yes, usually end up wrapped around her finger, though they aren't weak). Plus, she used to be a librarian, which is what I'm going to school for now.
Mercedes Lackey: I've just been drawn into her worlds. And one of her books, Magic's Pawn, makes me cry everytime I read it...even though that's probably been ten or more times. If I am feeling overwhelmed, I can read this book and afterwards, I feel refreshed.
Steven Brust: I have no idea why I like these books, or why I like the hero who is an assassin (eventually ex-assassin). But there is something there bc I do like the books and especially Vlad Taltos.
Sherrilyn Kenyon: Her characters. Her stories. The save the world mentality.
Christine Feehan: Same reasons as Kenyon. Characters, stories, and save the world...
Nora Roberts: Her stories. Not the earlier ones--those kinda bored me. But eventually...series like MacGregors, Donnavans, etc. and/or single titles like River's End, Northern Lights, etc.
There are more, but I'm going to go read. Or maybe get some more sleep.
The great gift is the passion for reading. It is cheap [Hah! It most certainly is not!], it consoles, it distracts, it excites. It gives knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is moral illumination. ~ Elizabeth Hardwick
