Since I love the paranormal
Since I love the paranormal genre, I have tons of books that are based on Magic rituals, the history of magic, mythology and legends. I couldn't come up with any "otherworldly" plots without them. They are definitely a lifeline when I'm hitting a brick wall!

writing about what you know
As a beginner at the craft, isn't it better to stick with what you know? I am worried that if I try to add a location I am not familiar with on top of all the other pieces, that it will come off fake. Of course, with fantasy, it is probably more important to be able to create a world.

RE: LOOK IT UP! ALL ABOUT RESEARCH MATERIALS
I guess it's not strange, but since becoming an avid reader of Harlequin's/Imprints, just about any material on anything has become fair game! Who knows... even "old wives' tales" about a certain locale will help a read become more believeable?

Recommendations for resources re: serial killers
Hi! Long time since I posted!
My suspense has a serial killer. I've loaded him up with some personality and history to ensure he isn't a cardboard cut-out...but I want to make certain that the psychology of him rings true. I've given him some obsessions and fixations, and of course he has a pattern of escalation....
I just don't want a psychiatrist or someone to read my novel and find his psychology way off base.
Any suggestions for online resources? When I try and google terms like "serial killer" etc I get - as you can imagine - sites about the Son of Sam, the Green River Killer, etc. Nothing of educational value.
Thanks in advance!
(if I don't reply promptly, please don't take offense - I'm still trying to navigate this forum! Attack of the Killer Folders!!)
