Salutation to All

My name is Raphael Azarias, but I go by “Azarias” this is my first time here. Thank you for the welcome.

I’m a slow learner so I will take my time. I’m not a published writer, but I love to write matter of fact my obsession started about 4 years ago.

I have a problem with punctuation; I have been working on it, but having a hard time.

I love short stories, poetry, and fantasy. I’m a disable war veteran. I’m a Native American of the chumash tribe and I’m also part Mexican and do speak it brokenly. Thank You Peace and blessings Azarias

Welcome to eHarlequin! It is a pleasure to "meet" you. I'm sure that once you get used to moving around the boards that you will love it here. I have a couple of suggestions for you and I'm not going to give you links so that you can learn how to move around, LOL. Over in the Write Stuff Forum, you will find a couple of areas I think will interest you. There is one thread to help you with puncuation. It is called Comma.Chamelon. Also there is a thread called Writers Challenge. Every two weeks there is a new challenge where the writers are given a topic and they have to come up with a 1000 word entry. You can get feed back from the other people who participate and that would probably help your puncuation too. As for fantasy, check out Luna  Forum or in the Simply Series Form, you can find those who discuss and write Nocturnes. Oh, and I recommend you add threads you like to your favorites list so it will be easy to find again when you return. After the description of the area you are in there are either the "add Comment" button or the "add to Favorites" button, just click on it and it is added.

One more quick note, Thank You for being a war vet. I have family in the military and my DH (Dear Husband) used to be a Marine. I have family members in the Seneca Nation, a cousin married an Iriqoius (Man , I know I am spelling that wrong) woman. I'm from Western NY.  I am also a very bad speller (really hope they get the spell check button back quick) and punctuation isn't that better. eHarlequin just went through some big changes and all their techies are working on fixing things that didn't make the move.

Take care everyone!

RE: welcome

Thank you Kim Swidersk for the welcome it’s a good feeling when being acknowledged especially being a stranger. And thanks for all the info and punctuation I’m in need. I hope I’m able to comprehend how to move around the board. You are very welcome; only a hand full has ever said that, and it’s been 36 years; “Thank you for being a war vet.Bless you Azarias

YW, Azarias

More people should say thank you to our Vets. Laughing

I suggest reading the past posts. I know I have learned (and forgotten) a lot from the people over there and I go back to it for reference all the time.

newbie here...

still surfing the vast space that is the Harlequin domain. i've interest in writing science fiction or fantasy type stories, but not sure if my writing style fits. still, i've been reading the different forums and may soon participate in the LUNA area - if i can get up my nerve to do so.

BTW, lots of people here have been uber friendly. this is very nice.

Too cool

Coolthank god for emoticons. can't seem to write a comment unless i add one first. Hey kim, i see that you have Iroquois relatives. me too. i married one. we also live in western ny but probably closer to the city. i am new to this site so am still learning my way around. i used to love writing although it was more poetry than stories. i am a teacher of 7th graders so have little time to fool around. i am a huge reader of epic proportions...best known as a bibliophile. cut my teen teeth on harliquin romances. thought about writing but don't know if i have what it takes. might be a fun career for retirement though.  so nice to see the comments. i love to talk about books, and loved doing my grad work online because we had to write to one another as it was all online courses. made some good friends, and really miss the discourse...still write to a couple of the gals, and we met in vegas after graduation. been so busy working that some days it feels as though life is going by in a blur...

looking forward to talking (and reading your comments again) real soon.

Part of the Seneca's

My family is related to the Seneca's or Onödowága', meaning "People of the Mountains", I have not been that involved in tribal activities. I have enjoyed learning the history over the years. I have gone to the powwow's in the past to watch the dancing but that is all I have had the pleasure of doing. Jamestown is in Western NY (Chautauqua county) about 50 miles south of Buffalo. Salamanca is part of the Reservation (Cattaragus county).

good am all

Laughingwell it's another day here so am taking a few moments to check in and see if there has been any activity.

Hey KS thanks for sharing all of that. My husband's people are the people of the Standing Rock. I imagine that most of us from NY know where the Turning Stone casino is...we have't gone to many ceremonies either. Life seems to get in the way and it is a fairly long way to travel. We ususally go up to see family...I, myself am also of mixed ancestry. My dad's people are from Nebraska, the Santee Reservation. But I haven't been home in a very long time. And we recently found out that on my mom's side, what we thought was a French link was actually Abenaki. Our history is really wierd. We were originally from Europe (like most whites tht settled in the U.S.) But during the 1800's, during a raid on a small settlement in Minnesota, a baby boy was brought home to a Dakota woman who had lost her child in giving birth. His skin was darkened with walnut juice so he wouldn't be discovered and returned like most Indian captives. His name was Joseph RobinetteFrownHe grew up and married an Indian woman, and that is how we can to be Dakota, and light skinned. On my mom's side, her father's people left New York to avoid the persecution towards any native people during the 1800's (see a pattern here?), and when they returned from Canada, they returned as French Davignons. I always thought my mom looked more Native than French but who was I? Anyway that is part of our story...the stories i might share about my mom's experience as one of the first people to live on the reservation after marrying my dad will have to wait until another day.

Someday I hope to write about all this but right now teaching and raising the last of our seven kids takes up most of our time.

A party?

Hmmmm, it has been so long since we had a party. What did we do last time? I would be happy to offer a copy of Burning Bridges or The Fire Opal as a prize if we ran a contest of some sort.

Teach, I'm not a very crafty person. I don't have the patience to complete a project. I want it done the same day I start it and that never happens. LOL

I don't make native crafts, but I do a lot of different crafts ! I bead, I crochet, I knit, I scrapbook !

Mostly love to do photography !

I am always looking for neat beads  !

contests

Coolsounds like fun! could we possibly do a circle write? that's where one person starts the line and others add to the thread as it is left off?

I started quilting but it is waiting until summer. I don't work summers (well i don't work and get paid), since teachers don't usually and I am not taking any courses or workshops. So I intend to hang out with my son, craft, read and concentrate on changing my diet to one that is organic...tough to do when you are the only one in house that needs to eat like that, but it is a mental break from the stress of working in an inner city school.

anybody ever thought of writing a book? my dream is to wwrite a book about our family roots in Nebraska but don't know if it will ever happen...

I've never considered writing a book. My dh wants me to write a children's book so he can illustrate it. I suppose I could do that (someday). We have worked together on medical pamphlets though.

Great start to the story. I'm not sure if Sapph would want us to move this to the Silver Unicorn where more people might get involved. Sapph, what do you think? Should we move the party to the bar?

I live in Western NY. Laughing I've been hooked on Harlequins for more years than I care to admit. LOL I started reading them while the kids I was babysitting were napping. I love the Historicals, Lunas, Nocturnes, and Presents the most but I read them all.

Hello

Hey Everyone,

I figured I would drop by and introduce myself. My name is Lys and I run the Luna MySpace page. I am an avid reader of all genres, but I have a special spot in my heart for LUNA publications. I used to wander the bookstore looking for the LUNA logo! Total geek.

Have a great weekend.

New to the area

Hello All!

My name is Tiffany, and I'm new to the land of LUNA.  I've been running around the eharlequine site for almost a year now, but never realized that these forums existed.  Silly me.  Anyway, I have written a few manuscripts and started two series, but have yet to be published.  I mainly write paranormal romances, but have not found a publisher that I seem to "meet the criteria" for.  Does anyone have any sugestions that might point me in the right direction?  I regularly visit the writing guidelines, but have still managed to only recieve rejections so far... I refuse to give up though, so any advise will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi Tiffany Welcome to

Hi Tiffany

Welcome to Luna !!  I would suggest that you keep trying and if they send you any comments on your MS, you look it over and try to revise it.

We have a forum The Write Stuff   : The resources you need on YOUR path to publication.

where you can work on your writing skills and get advice from other members.. Hope that helps ! Good Luck !

Thanks

Thanks so much!  I have already visited and am making my way through the forums.

I love this stuff!  woohoo :)

Tiffany

Hello everyone...

I’m new here. I just wanted to introduce myself although now I must confess I’m at a loss as to what to say. I came here to find other writers, kinda see how they’re doing. (I feel like I’m writing personals ad.; New [or not] writer seeking same [or not]. Supportive chats, talk about great books we’ve read…)

I’ve been writing since I was very young but have only recently gotten serious about it. Not freakazoid serious, just more dedicated to telling a story…and I wondered about the experiences of other newbies. Taking a class is out of the question right now as are clubs etc. b/c I have two small kiddies and a husband with wacko hours but I’m beginning to feel isolated in the middle of a big city. My only real time to write is late at night…although I squeeze in whatever I can, kinda like Twinkies eaten over the sink.

I particularly like the romantic fantasy or paranormal arena…gimme a guy with added ‘oompf’ any day! Anyhow, I’m still new at the whole Forum/Chat thing and will probably goof up so I’m apologizing in advance if I’m being a dork.

Ciao for now,

midnightwriter

Hi Midnight.  You might

Hi Midnight.  You might want to post in the Enchanted Scribe. (That's one of the threads in LUNA.)  That's where all the would-be writers hang out.  Though, less hang out there since the format change on eHQ.  Still, enough stop by to give advice and encouragement.

Hello FF, Sapphire and Woody

Thanks so much for taking the time to greet me…and for advice on where I might look further. Some of your past posts were really helpful too. I’m sooo glad I came here; lots of good advice to be gleaned but my real fave …friendly people! :)

I’ll sure check out the Enchanted Scribe, sounds tres interesting…and I’ll be back here to see how ya’ll are doing; I’m not quite that new kid in school who trails after the first kid who talks to her, but almost. ;)

Welcome Midnight Writer!

Welcome to the LUNAsylum.  Coture strait-jackets are on the table to the right while assistant kits are to the left.

The strait-jackets come in all colors and designs.  LOL

As for the Assistant kits, you get to create your own assistant who will be your right hand man/woman and muse hunter.  Trust me, when the muses go on vacation it takes a detemined assistant to entice them back to the Enchanted Scribe where their help is incredibly valuable.

Welcome aboard and watch out for the jello traps and the flying whipped cream pies...

Don't forget to get creative!

I hope you enjoy it here, Midnight! In the Creative Writing folder, which is where you'll actually find the Enchanted Scribe, there's also a litte round-robin story. You can exercise your Muse by adding a segment there. Technically, it is supposed to be a paragraph per submission, but things have been a litte slow, so feel free to add as much as you like per submission (up to the maximum capacity of a post)! Just wait at least 48 hours to see if someone else adds something before posting again.
