I think I am in a slump. I started the year fast reading six books in about 7 days or something like that, now it has taken me the rest of the month to read five books. I don't know if it is me or the books, but nothing is grabbing me. I am afraid that I am going to ruin a good book by reading it in this mood. Thus, I am going to do some rereading. I have been avoiding that as my TBR is large, but I need something to recharge me and I am hoping to get myself into reading again. However, now I need to decide an older Julie Garwood historical, a Nora Roberts or a JAK -- all three are usually good at pulling me out of the slump. Any recommendations.

Bummer!
Even though you've read 6 more books than me, for you its a slump. Since out of the 3 you mention, I've only read - and love - is Nora. What choices of hers do you have?

reading slumps
two nights ago I just had to take a break and watch a movie on DVD. That helped me. We watched a deep movie and then we watched some Lost In Space episodes. That lost is space was enough to get me back to reading. I loved it and i hated it. The mom and daughters are sooo sterotypical. It drove me nuts. She served space pie and they had this space hair dryer for a space do. They had space picnic benches for those family space vehicle trips...even in the middst of life threatening danger, they had to stop for a family picnic! And of course the space dishwasher etc etc. I don't know if it will cure a reading slump but it was soo strange.

For me, my first choice
For me, my first choice would be a Julie Garwood historical, one with lots of humour.
I've been in a reading slump for months...so i've started having several books going at once, to try to spruce things up for myself...
Hope yours blows over much sooner.

A good Nora
A good Nora is always a good choice. One of those MacGreggors is a great go to!

I hear you Cady, I am semi in a slump, but also not finding the time to read lately.... Nora is always a great choice to snap out of it!

Kathy - I tried picking up a couple of books and then reading the one that grabbed me the most, but I am afraid I am spoiling books as I just don't feel I am in the right mood. I have also tried reading some magazines, but it just wasn't breaking me out.
I thought about the JG, but ended up going with a Nora, I grabbed both Local Hero (an older Harlequin) and Tears of the Moon, one of my favorites. I started ToM last night and think that will be my read.
Merri - Never got into Lost in Space, I think the Uncle was too odd for me.

Tears of the Moon was so good. I haven't visited those books for a long time. I hope the Nora is working to get you out of the slump.

It is my favorite of the three. I am enjoying it. I think part of my problem is that I have been spending too much time on this site, work and home stuff and reading has been shunted aside. Hopefully, this weekend, I can get more into it.

Sounds ridiculous to say I've been in a bit of a slump
when you see my total, but I think the mediocre reviews have been
reflecting my mood rather than the books' value, so I fully understand
your problem
Things have improved recently so I'm hopefully out the other side, now ALL I have to do is blog my backlog
and
I've been having computer and internet problems every time I even think
that, so I might leave that until tomorrow morning when the boys have
school
Hugs and hope your slump is a thing of the past

No more excuses, just READ!
I agree with whoever said
I agree with whoever said to take a break. When I get in a reading slump, I either watch a funny, light-hearted movie or try to change the genre of book that I'm reading. I can only read so many Intrigues before I need a Superromance or something funny.
Good luck.

I agree with Shannon...
I read about 6 different lines and I always try to read a different line for the next book. It helps make each book different and exciting - not boring!

I hear you Cady!
I'm reading but not like usual and am finding I'm bored with a lot of the books. I have been busy on this site and am trying to clean and organize a bit at home. I actually looked at paint this evening at Home Depot!
I don't often get the cleaning bug so I think I should just work with it. Books will come back to me. The only problem with a slump - it doesn't keep me out of the stores! I cannot stop shopping. I used to love it, then when I got back into reading, shopping was only a necessary evil that I would do with a book in my bag in case I had to stand in line for a while! Now it's the opposite - and books are being left at home! This I have to get under control - this shopping is much more expensive than books!

Sadhbh - That is one of my biggest concerns is that my mood will ruin books.
EJ - I have an organizing bug going as well, and I have been playing on this site when I normally would read. I actually am taking a couple of hours on Monday to do some organizing sans kids.
Oops, kid alert gotta go.

Could the slump be tied to the new Challenge?
I have wondered about this for my own slump. The verdict is still out on this challenge as to whether I am liking it or not. The site looks good, but the sense of community I felt before seems to be missing. Is it too big this year? All those book reviews, 1800? and I've hardly read any of them. It didn't seem so overwhelming last year.
Oh, well, time will tell. I'm not a quitter and I know you have to give change some time. But I'm not having as much fun as before.

You are right in that I am
You are right in that I am not reading as many reviews. I wish we had a list of members like we did before, then at least I could visit specific sites, I don't find the friends thing all that useful, but maybe I don't know how to use it. I did finish up one book today, but have spent much of the day cleaning and reorganizing. I have moved furniture and a bunch of stuff, but got rid of a bunch, so that is good.

You have been busy Cady!
Wow - that's better than what I have done, unless you count the "what I should do today" plans in my head that never got started!
You are right about the friends thing. I do have a lot there but it takes more time to visit to see what each has been up to. By the time I check my blogs, make a few comments, check my favourites, make so more comments i'm tired and ready to log off.

Yeah, before I would check
Yeah, before I would check a half dozen members within the challenge and then a couple of other sites. Now I check my favorites and occasionally check the recent posts. It is hard to stay current with this new site. It just seems so much larger than we use to be. As for the organization, there is still a ton that needs to get done. But I really wanted my family room done and wanted to get a start on the dining room/playroom.

Oh i agree with Nora as a good choice, i loved her Tears Of the Moon series as well. Actually, i think i've loved most all her family series. Gosh, makes we wish i didn't have so many books in my tbr, so i'd have alot more time for re-reading favorites.
With so many of you mentioning this new site possibly affecting your reading...i'm sure that it is responsible for my lack of reading...This site takes me so much longer to get on and off of, and yet i feel like i accomplish alot less than i did before.
I'm fully expecting to get in a reading frenzy to catch up eventually...

It definately kicked me out
It definately kicked me out of my slump, I have read two new books this week. You are right about the site, but I am slowly feeling like I am getting a handle on it. Although who knows what would happen if you go on vacation, it would take a while to catch up.
