Here are two of my precious Bichons. Betsy (on left) and Honey Bunch (on right) are both 4 years old. I've had Betsy a year and just got Honey Bunch. Both were rescued from a puppy mill where they were being used/abused as breeders. It took a year for Betsy to come to me to be petted. Honey Bunch is still scared.
I came home one day and there they were, sharing a crate together.
It only took me two days to get this picture posted, so I"m going to try another post with McGyver while the muses seem to be with me.
All my rescues come from Small Paws Rescue, an bichon breed only rescue. You can find out more about them at www.smallpawsrescue.org. I am a foster parent for them and have two other foster dogs right now as well.. but the three I've posted are all mine.

A dear friend who passed away last year ........
got her Bichon, Mac, through Small Paws rescue ...... what a phenomenal program ....... another friend in Missouri actually worked with the program until she had a stroke a few years back
Bichons are such a wonderful breed ..... so good natured .... not a large dog ... and not a teeny one either ....... I wonder if the program works up here in Canada too ....that would be a perfect breed for my Mom
a friend in Maryland helps run a Miniature Schnauzer rescue ..... she's always got a houseful ..... as she says, "her house has gone to the dogs!" .. rofl ..... she finds it so rewarding
good for you, Crystal for fostering ....... you must have some really heartbreaking moments but I'm sure the overall rewards are many

Oh, my!
Crystal, They're so sweet. It breaks my heart to think of anyone abusing a dog. Ethel came from an abusive home. I'm so glad you came into their lives!

What a small world
Katherine,
What a small world that we both have ties with Small Paws Rescue! Well, they DO say that they are the biggest single breed rescue in the country. I know that our national coordinator, Robin, has people from all over the world who get her update emails. She tells us when she picks up a new country. I know that we have fosters all over the country, and that SPR arranges with adoptive parents so that dogs can be flown to them once the adoption is final. I just don't know if there are any border problems with flying them to Canada.
And yes, fostering has it's challenges. Especially the puppy mill dogs since they don't have any housebreaking or socialization. I've failed Fostering 101 twice (that means I did the no-no of adopting my own fosters, lol) with MacGyver and Betsy, but I've also placed 4 in new adoptive homes. My fosters right now are a bonded pair whose owner died. Chloe is 15 with bladder cancer, and Nigel is 4. It will take a special person to adopt this pair and they may be long-term fosters for me while Chloe is still with us. But for now, she runs and keeps up with Nigel, acting much younger than her age. As for Nigel, as I said on his Petfinder's bio, "who needs a jack-in-the-box when you have a Nigel-in-the-house? I swear he has SPRINGS in his feet!

Hi
OK, I know I'm a little late but I just had to say that they are sooo cute Crystal.
LOL at the "failed Fostering 101" comment. I fostered a couple of sick kittens for my local Humane Society once many years ago that my parents ended up adopting.
That was my one and only attempt at fostering.
i know better than to try
i know better than to try fostering. I'd never want to give any cats up. LOL I've actually thought about volunteering at the local humane society once a week or so but havne't done it yet. I'm afraid if I do that and see all those adorable animals, I'll come home with more babies and my three are more than enough for me right now!

Bless you!
They are adorable, Crystal! Bless you for giving rescue dogs a loving home. The thought of puppy mills makes my blood boil! I can't fathom people who are cruel to any kind of animal, but it's especially heartbreaking with bichons because they are so naturally loving and trusting. Drop me an email with your mailing address and I'll send you one of my books that has a dog in it. Mine is hrwdebhale@aol.com.
Button sends Honey Bunch, Betsy amd MacGyver lots of licks and sniffs!
