I was reading another blog, and the woman said that when she wrote her latest book, it helped her to visualize certain actors to create the character. To sort of model the character on this actor or on roles that they have played.
I responded that while I am not a writer, that I sometimes cast the book in my mind. Sometimes it helps to visualize a certain actor in a role.
But when I read books, I often cast the characters in my head...It helps to have a visual.
Like when I read the Stephanie Plum books, I always picture Lorenzo Lamas (from his Renegade days) as Ranger, and I picture Sandra Bullock as Stephanie. Queen Latifah (or maybe Mo'Nique) as Lula and Grandma Mazur sort of like Sofia in The Golden Girls.
As for Morelli, I cant think of who I would cast yet...someone hot and Itallian. Maybe Adrian Paul (he is English and Itallian). Adrian and Sandra made a nice couple in Love Potion #9.
Does anyone else do this?

Casting
I absolutely do this - always as a writer, and frequently as a reader. On my regular blog I always post casting pictures and I also send them to my editor with my finished book, so that she has some idea of what was in my mind for artwork.
Two books I read I had the same casting in my head. One was a Romance and one a Nocturne, but in both cases the hero was Christian Bale in my mind. Turns out that's who was in the authors's minds as well!
Good topic!

Casting
I do that all the time, especially with audiobooks. I've listened to James Patterson's first two books in the Women's Murder Club, after the tv show came out and I think it made listening to the book all the better because I visualized the actress's from the tv and the descriptions in the book and the tv cast are spot on.
Am almost finished with Janet Evanovich's One For the Money. I love your casting! The problem with the audiobook is the narrator is Lori Petty, who's got the New Jersey accent down pat, but I just couldn't picture her as Stephanie - I like Sandra Bullock in that role! Just downloaded the next two books in the Stephanie Plum series and now I'll have good visuals to go with listening to it. Thanks!

RE: Books. Reading and Casting
I don't do this all the time...but sometimes I do. Most of the time, it's not "movie/TV" stars I imagine, but perhaps blokes, m8s, and ladys I know or have seen.

True
sometimes the people in your real life can be just as good to visualize.

I dont always give real
I dont always give real people the roles in the books I read, but sometimes I do.. other times I seem to make up people for them to be. I'm going to start listening to other books between the Stephanie Plum series so that it lasts longer. I know Ive only listened up to the 3rd one, but they are so good I dont want to finish them to quickly.
