Loving It Hot: Blaze
Ain't nuthin wrong with being a red-blooded woman who likes her novels to be satisfying and sexy. In fact, the only thing that would be wrong is not coming over and dishing about your favorite authors and releases so that the rest of us red-blooded women can catch up!
So if you love it hot, and you love it good, then you love it Blaze!

Just popping in...
To give us a post here... love the nifty new digs. :)
Check out my new blog post I put up today, if you can find it -- it was showing in Recent posts, and I think you can get to it via my Profile?

Okay, I'm still learning my way around the new boards. But I love the look!!
I especially love the Tags--they're taking me to places I wouldn't have thought to check out before. Fun!

Julie, I agree with you on the tags. In the past, I've found the site redesigns a little annoying, but this one seems to have been well thought out. Or maybe I'm just getting more accustomed to change? LOL!

Hi Sam,
Believe it or not I was just thinking this morning that I hadn't seen you here for awhile. I'm sure you have been busy with the holidays, writing, life, etc. Hope all is well with you.
Take care, happy reading,

Hi to All!
Hi again! When I said "Hi" to Sam I didn't mean to leave out everyone else. Yesterday I spent a lot of time on the site just trying to figure out where to go!!
I also got my 3 books posted on the Challenge. Julie, I love At Your Command, it was yummy!

Hey Donna :)
I'm around. Have been up to my eyeballs with a new proposal, which hopefully is done tomorrow -- then my ed tells me line edits are in the mail, LOL. It never ends (thank goodness). But the holidays were busy... good, but busy, and I'm glad they're over...
I hope you had a good one! :) I love the new boards... too much fun.

I spent most of yesterday trying to overcome a snafu that the posters on the other Blaze board solved for me in about ten seconds, so I'm learning to ask first!! No sense pounding my head on the keyboard when someone else has an easy answer

Hi to All,
Just checking in to see what has been happening since I was here last. Yesterday I stayed away from the boards in favor of getting some necessary things done & reading. I was reading a non-Harlequin book!! Now I've picked up another Blaze. So far I've only read about 60 pages! It is the first book in The Martini Dares! I still have so many Blaze books stacked up to catch up on. Four books a month instead of six would be better but I tried that & you are always missing something!!! What to do, What to do!!
Everyone have a great weekend.

Donna, if you're looking for a book suggestion, I was just checking out the February Blaze books and Burning Up by Sarah Mayberry caught my eye. I read one of Sarah's books a few months ago and it was fantastic! I am going to check this one out too.

Ooh!
I just got the cover for my April, 2008 Blaze and have discovered it's been tagged a "Blush". Totally cool! And I'm way excited about the tag line, "Cheating on a sex survey....what's the worst that can happen?"
Ironically, that's almost identical to the thought I had that spurred the idea for the story.
These types of things are always so fun. It's on my website (link below) if you want to check it out.

Cover, Blush!
Hi Everyone,
Did you love the cover Lori? My Blaze shipment just came the other day with the February books! There are some yummy looking books!!
Since they seem to be mostly Valentine oriented I'm not reading any of them yet. Right now I'm reading the second book in The Martini Dares. I'm looking forward to seeing the cover on your April Blaze, do you have it up on your website?
See you all later.

Hey Donna, yeah, I'm very happy with the cover. Love the teaser and the hero is exactly as I pictured him in my mind. I'm thinking this is my favorite, even including naked-bed-man on the cover of Private Confessions. *g*
Have fun with those February Blazes. I picked up Jill Monroe's "Primal Instincts" being it was a RT Top Pick. It's in my TBR pile along with Leslie's "One Wild Wedding Night".

Thanks Jeanette and
Thanks Jeanette and Julie! Is it my imagination or is Blaze starting to blend in the more subtle covers again? It seemed like for a while there, bare chested males were the norm. Now in the last couple months, they're going back to a mix.
I like the variety, myself. My first two covers were bare rippled abs, and though I won't look a gift horse in the mouth (I hear they sell well), I'm kind of pleased to see a different style of sensuality on the cover.
BTW, Julie, congrats on the success of "At Your Command". It's getting a ton of buzz over on the blogs.

Covers
I agree, Lori. I think the covers have more variety and the feedback from readers has been very enthusiastic. They love the look and so do I! Actually, I have been taking note of the book titles of late and they're great as well. They certainly grab your attention.
Check out the book summary for <a href=http://www.eharlequin.com/storeitem.html?iid=16202&cid=192>The Tao of Sex</a>. It had me grinning from ear to ear ("When her yin bumps up against his yang...").
Jeanette
Covers & other stuff!
Covers seem to always be an interesting & diverse subject for most of us. My biggest complaint is when the cover doesn't match the characters or the story. For instance, the book I am reading now the h has short blond hair but on the cover is a blonde with long hair! I hate that, it seems an insult to our intelligence though it is probably not meant that way. I like the covers that do not show a face because most of the models used are to "pretty boy" and way to young! When the H in a story is a rugged man & the cover is some smooth guy that looks young enough to be my grandson it just doesn't work for me!
Well, I guess I've done enough speaking from my soap box this morning, whoops it is afternoon!!!
Have a great weekend everyone.

I have noticed that myself once in a while as well, Donna. A little annoying!
I am reading several books right now, but the one that has got my attention is Talking in Your Sleep...So much so that I have decided to add Rafe to my list of baby names. No I am not expecting but, I just thought I should make a mental note in case it comes up again LOL!
Oh, and if you're looking for some extra-HOT reading, check out the Daily Online Read, The Road Taken by Megan Hart. Enjoy!
I hope your having a great weekend!
Jeanette
WOW! Thanks!
LOL Jeannette -- well, maybe by the time you finish the book there might be a little Rafe on the way? ;) That would be cool.
He's one of my favorite heroes I've written, he was just such a pleasure. I've had more people email me about him because he's so normal. LOL Which is kind of funny when you think about it, but I guess we get used to heroes in romance who are larger than life, but Rafe is really just the guy next door. Literally, in this case.
So doubly happy that you like him, too. :)

Lori's Blush and Miniseries
Lori, I saw the blurb for your Blush book in the back of my March Blaze and thought it sounded great! I noticed, as well, that all of the books save one belonged to miniseries... two that looked like they were author-driven, and then Blaze series like Forbidden Fantasies, Lust in Translation and Blush. Kimberly Raye's book is part of a vampire series... Love at First Bite. How did I miss hearing this was coming up? Am anxious to take a peek :-).

Just stopping by,
Just wanted to see what everyone has been "talking" about.
Did anyone else see the frozen players & spectators at the Green Bay/ Giants games yesterday! BRRRR! I can't even imagine being outside in weather that cold. It is cold enough where I am at 41 degrees & raining!
See everyone later!

I'm pretty excited about it, and the fact that it's a Blush. This was sort of the first book I wrote where I felt like I knew what I was doing. Of course, with the one I'm working on now, I'm back to feeling like I haven't a clue again, so go figure. *g*
I'm looking forward to reading "Getting Lucky" when it comes out. I've got Jill Monroe's February Blush, "Primal Instincts", and am planning to crack it open tonight. So far, I haven't read one and am curious to see what they're like.

BRRR!
Ha! I'll trade your California for my Nebraska right now, Lori.
When I wake up and the temperature is below zero, and the wind chill is even lower than that, it really makes me want to snuggle up and stay in bed.
But I can understand about not being used to the cold. Living in Nebraska definitely means my closet is full of coats, boots, mittens, gloves and long-johns!
I was surprised to see it was a few degrees colder in Atlanta, Georgia than in Alaska last Friday! Wow. Crazy weather all around.
Everyone stay warm!

Not to imply anything too risque, but you know what to do when it's cold out...snuggle up with a hot Blaze *G*
Freezing
Donna, I was cold just watching that game... I had to go grab myself a second throw and drink hot chocolate in empathy. But really, I don't mind January because it's too cold here to go anywhere. The cold is my month long excuse to sit tight at home.
Lori, I'm writing one of those books that makes me feel like I don't know what I'm doing as well. It seems to be a back and forth phenom I can't escape-- two books in a row where I feel smart and the words fly, then a book or two that feel like pulling teeth.

Flow vs. struggle phenomenon
>It seems to be a back and forth phenom I can't escape-- two books in a
row where I feel smart and the words fly, then a book or two that feel
like pulling teeth.
What is that, Joanne and Lori? I have that happen to me, too. My last two releases (my last Intrigue and current Blaze) were two of the strongest and easiest books I've ever written, imo. The one I wrote after that was fair--I feel better about it after the edits. But the ms after that? Man, did I struggle!
It was almost painful to get those words down on the computer. But the one I'm writing now seems to be flowing out of my fingers again.
Any scientific and psychological answers to explain why some books are easy and others make you wonder why I'm doing this tortuous thing to myself? Sometimes, I think my brain just gets tired, but I don't know.

Thank heavens I'm not
Thank heavens I'm not alone! For me I sometimes think writing a book is like childbirth. It's difficult at the time, but once it's over I "forget". I only say that because I've been whining to my CPs over doubts about this new book. They ease my fears then remind me that I had the same doubts about the last book (the one I'm now recalling was a breeze to write).
Although I do know that with some stories I have a clearer vision than others. With my April Blaze, I had very specific major plot points before I started writing. With this new one, I'm kind of feeling my way through trying to trust in the fact that the story will work it's way out as I go. (Translate: Agonize over every word).
I know some authors write all their books that way, but I'm learning I might be more comfortable having most of it figured out before I start putting chapters together.
How about you? Do you find you usually have about the same amount of plot worked out with each book before you start writing (be it a lot or a little), or do you tend to come about each one in a different way?

Hi to All,
Just finished reading the last book in the Martini Dares series. It was a good wrap up to the series by Isabel Sharpe, My Wildest Ride. Now I am on to a book by one of my favorite authors Jill Shalvis. Love her books.
Julie, Lori & Joanne, I'm looking forward to the books all of you have coming out. I know there will be some yummy reading.
It is still cold here, we have some snow on the hills but not as much as there was yesterday! It is not a usual sight in this area to see snow. Joanne, it is nice to have a good excuse to drink hot chocolate but I'd rather not be cold all the time! Someone mentioned having the right clothes for the weather & that is part of it! When my daughter lived in Colorado I'd just borrow a warm jacket from her if I needed it. That is when I was visiting her! My feet are what are cold a lot & they just don't want to stay warm!! If my feet are cold, I'm cold.
Everyone have a great evening.

It's funny how you think of extreme weather when reading. I love to drink some hot chocolate and curl up in bed with a good book (a Blaze of course!) and in the summer, there is nothing like lying on a beach chair and reading in the sun. Oh, I would love some sun right now!
Check out our Baby, it's Cold Outside! sale.

Sun?
Here in northern California sun has been in a very short supply in what seems like a very long time!!
It doesn't look like we will be having a sun break anytime soon! At least at the moment it is not raining.
I'm trying to catch up on my favorite threads but am getting hungry! Guess I will be back later to read more posts & of course, leave my comments!!
I hope everyone is having a good Saturday.

Reading
I'm reading my RITA books this month, Jeanette, so my TBR will go untouched for a while
. I guess it'll just keep growing.
While I can't really discuss them, I will say that I love the variety of the RITA books I received. I will definitely be reading outside what I usually pick up off the shelves for myself. But I love to stretch my reading muscles.

(Okay, that's probably a play on names you've heard a million times, huh?)
But hey, I've got a good excuse. I just checked out the Romantic Times BookClub reviews for March and saw you're the Top Pick! for "Getting Lucky".
"Getting Lucky (4 1/2) by Joanne Rock has hot sex, a spooky mystery, an isolated island cut off by a storm, ghosts, danger, and romance--not to mention the perfect ending."
Wow. I know I'll be placing my order the minute the March Blaze's go up! I can't wait to read it, and congrats on the great review!

RITA books
Jeanette--The RITA's are like the Academy Awards for romance writing--published authors read and vote for published authors. If you want to enter the contest, you have to volunteer to judge at least 3 categories of books (not your own category). So, before even sending in my entry, I went to the RWA website (you have to be an RWA member, too, to judge) and selected what categories I'd be willing to judge. Then they sent me a mixed box of books.

Getting Lucky
Thank you, Lori! I was psyched to see the Top Pick, but until you posted the snippet I wasn't sure exactly what the review said. Yay! Isn't it cool when reviewers pull out the stuff you really enjoyed about the book too? Sometimes, on the not so happy reviews, I want to jump up and down and say, but didn't you notice X and Y about my story? And how could you not love this or that about it? But yes... we can be a smidge defensive of our babies
. I picked the setting for this book almost before anything else, BTW. I wanted to write a spooky island in some way or another and finally found a cool format.
