How large is your TBR really?

So how large is your TBR really, I thought mine was about 150 books or so.  However, when I got my carpet fixed last week, it convinced me to organize my TBR - previously, it had been on some shelves with no organization - and truthfully, it didn't look that nice, so instead of putting it back there, I put it in boxes organized by what I was going to read - set up one box as my first reads about 10, then another with the next 10, then a slightly larger box and then a bigger box.  I also went through and culled some books I knew I wasn't going to read. Some were from Free Fridays and they really weren't my type of books, others were ones friends gave me that I knew I wouldn't read and lastly a couple were ones I bought that I tried to read and just couldn't.  In total, I pulled out about 17 books and put them in the giveaway pile.  So how many books do I have in the TBR - only 87 - well, actually 86 as I read one last night.  Now if I could start reading 2 more books that I buy each month, I could get through it in two years.  Well, that is my new goal, so I better get cracking, I am three books short in January so far.

what are you complaining about? Smile

Now
if you had the current TBR 800+, plus most of last year's reads and a
fair number of 2006 (= 2000+) you might understand why DH reacts badly
when I mention that there might be more M bags arriving shortly Undecided, not that DH's feelings on the matter bother me that much Wink

Yes, but this month I have

Yes, but this month I have only read 13 books and truthfully, at best will only get through 1 maybe 2 more.  So 87 will last me a long time, plus I know I won't stop buying books or getting them from the library.

Star - The fun thing about counting, is I found several books I want to read.

CAdy

Glad your TBR has books you actually want to read

That's
why I add the list of new books to my TBR file, when others recommend
books I can check to see whether I already have it, and from time to
time I switch the boxes around to "confuse" myself Wink

I would say, about 200

I have only bought about 10 so far this year (this month). So the majority are left over from last years pile.

Got Books?

Do I really want to know?

After visiting a number of blogs last year where they mentioned their list of TBR, I decide to make a spreadsheet and list of all my TBR.  I keep mine in boxes but I never had a list of what was in them.  I still haven't finished but I did get through 1 box - still have 1 more box - from my closet.  So far, I have 58 books listed and those are only my Harlequin Blaze, Intrigue, Silhouette Dreamscapes, & Desires.  I still have my very old HP's & HAR's (don't read these lines anymore),  my HR & SR's, SIM/SRS's, & Bombshells.  I know I have some other lines as well just can't think of them right now.  I'm guessing I have about 125 books in my TBR pile.  Hopefully, I can get through some of my older books (pre-millennium) this year.

Cady - You are right. That's how I rediscovered my love for the Blaze line. I was going through my TBR boxes in an effort to reduce the pile for the challege. Maybe I will challenge myself to organizing and making a list of my unread books that I have. My TBB wish list for 2008 is steadily growing.

I didn't develop a list

I didn't develop a list although I think I want to do that, I did try and sort by what I thought I would be more likely to read and by throwing in an occasional who knows book in there.  I was really surprised by how small the number was - actually makes me more excited to try and tackle some of it.

Cady

TBR MOUNTAINS?

I know that I have a TBR mountain.  It's more books than I'll read in my lifetime, and try as hard as I might to cull, it's almost impossible.  I think I'll dejunk this, and then read the blurb and discover I can't!

As you probably know I just continue to insist that when I'm reitred and poor I'll have plenty of reading material, and my boys might be inherting more of a treasure trove than they think.

my TBR shelf

According to Shelfari, my "planning to read" shelf has 556. It may have gotten to this point because already this month I'm up to 38 books that have entered the house but only at 17 read(working on 18)

Wow Christa - 556, that is

Wow Christa - 556, that is a big number.  I understand Sadhbh having 800 or so as she reads that many in a year.

Sandi - How do you keep track of the books that are in your storage unit and how often do you go and pull books out of there?

Cady

My recent TBR

My recent TBR is over 3 big bookshelves now plus boxes and bins. Most of my other books purchased from before our move are still in moving boxes. I don't even want to think how many that includes, read and unread. 5,000? 10,000? But.... I do keep many, many books. My dream would to be able to have wall to wall bookshelves in multiple rooms.

MY TBR MOUNTAIN

Cady, once upon a time I had the boxes labeled and inventoried them in my BYRON.  However, since my laptop PC has had the issues, my BYRON is hopelessly out of date(I hate that) I have a couple of bookshelves in the house, so I don't go dig in storage as often as I might like, but I did just go take a big pile from there to dejunk.

My TBR has been growing for years and years, and has been added to by many sources other than just me.  I have a friend who sends me books, and another whose mother died, and I inherited her pile, so that's how my pile got started, and then once it started how was I supposed to not keep it fed and growing...isn't that the mom instinct?

Sandi - Depends on your mom I think, as mine is a big pitcher.  Nothing lasted long in our house.  My dad tries to save and my mom pitches.  She took her wedding dress and converted it into a cocktail dress as she wanted something new to wear and then didn't even keep that, but got rid of it when it didn't fit.  Smile  So your big pile will you eliminate some or just put them in the storage shed?

Well according to Shelfari...

I'm at 584 and I haven't even TOUCHED the unread books that are piled up in boxes and bookshelves around the house!  Those were just the "loose" books laying around. Embarassed

TBR pile

I am afraid to count them,   I guess I have around 1000 books,   I have every Blaze book plus tons of Temptations, Duets, Love & Laughter, flipsides, Intrigues and many many more.  Ran out of bookshelf space and now they are in boxes by year.  Plus, i get more books at the library each week.  I will read these all, even if it takes a few years.

Tammy

I'm not sure of the seperate

I'm not sure of the seperate count for tbr and read books...but my grand total of both is somewhere over 3000. Like Sandi, i won't run out of books in this lifetime...that's why i'm not leaving unless i can take them with me.  Innocent

Counting

I haven't counted the TBR in a while, I thinking there is probably around 80.  Guess I should house cleaning in on those four shelves and maybe I might find something to inspire me.

TBR--The Born Readers

Wow, you all make me feel

Wow, you all make me feel like slackers.  500 or more books in the TBR - golly, I  think my mom would be shuttering now.  Wink  I must have a bit of her in me as well, as I know that would drive me insane.

Kate - I found several good books, read another from the TBR last night, not as old, but several months, very good.

Cady

I think I have somewhere

I think I have somewhere over 300 books on 3 shelves. All TBR. But don't tell DH. He thinks I've read most of them. lol  That's how I can justify buying more books. I know there are some I'll never read, and I do periodically go through and take ones i'm almost sure I won't read, to the UBS and try to get credit for what I can.

I'd also love to have wall to wall bookshelves around my house one day.

TBR

My TBR pile continues to grow all the time, no matter my intentions of trying to get it down.  I mentioned to someone else today that my buy to read ratio is like 5 to 1.  I think I have about 108 books in my tbr.  Probably need to weed through it to see if I'm actually going to read them all.  I'd like to start reading one a week.  I'm on my third book for the year right now.

I have never counted my

I have never counted my TBR... I don't want to! I just have shelves of books and just randomly pick books up based on my mood. I buy, borrow from the library.

The D2K Paranormal Junkies

~eHQ April 2008 Member of the Month~

When I counted late last year,

I had enough to get me through almost 2 years at my 2006 & 2007 reading rates.  That's if I didn't buy or borrow any new ones. But I expect that it will take me longer as I'm getting busy with things that prevent reading (keep breathing y'all, it's not the end of the world).  I did leave a book behind at my sister's last week that I'd tried to read a couple of times.  And I did put down a book when it didn't keep me interested in the first 3 chapters.  But I think most of the books in my pile will be worth reading (I know that the Bombshells will).

Sigh.

So, for those of you who wonder what 2 years worth is for me, I averaged 10-12 books per month in '06 and '07, so I guess that I had about 240-290 books.  A lot are shorter reads, so I might do okay.  Unfortunately, I didn't count my ebook tbr.  I know that on dh's pda I have 21 romances and a few fantasy and a few mysteries so . . . and this last break I didn't read any ebooks.

Okay, Cady, that answers your question.  It's killing me to limit myself to my tried and true authors as far as what I'm buying this year . . . but so far, I'm doing pretty well at it.

Penn

Penn - I understand how

Penn - I understand how hard it is on the buying thing.  I am ordering today, but am trying to keep it to a minimum.

Cady

Okay, I've got more than most...

and not as many as a few (*waves to Sadhbh, Debbie, Sandi and Kathy D *) ... thank you, thank you, thank you!  And Tammy (yenastone)... so glad that you're here as well so that I don't stand out!  My TBR is along the lines of 400 ~ and I do know that for sure because I've been organizing my TBR's over the last week.
I have 176 category (Har, Sil, LS, etc) and 234 'novels' so I guess that puts my TBR at 410...

Hmm, and last year I managed to read 476  books (not counting re-reads) so I guess, if I don't get anymore books this year (Yeah, right!! UndecidedInnocent),  then I've got a year's worth... minus some.  Very interesting!!

Late getting here...

I am a little late getting to this blog but I love the subject matter!  Everyone knows that I am obsessed with my TBR pile.  :)

At my last count my TBR pile hit 350+.  I figure if I don't buy books for over two years I would still have plenty to read.  Of course, that's not likely.  I've already bought 20 books this year with additional shipments due to arrive from both Amazon and eHarlequin any day now.

Christa - Strangely I

Christa - Strangely I always have a hard time deciding what to read next.  Only when the library books are due, do I know what to read.
