New toy

I got a new toy this morning. A new computer.Smile. Not just tower but tower, monitor, mouse, keyboard. Now I don't need to squint to try and read stuff on an 11" monitor. I don't need to wait 1/2 minute for a page to load. I can zip from page to page. Woohoo. Don't ask anything about RAMS, megabytes or gigabytes because I am totally clueless when it comes to stuff like that. All I know is it's a 2004 Acer. It was a school computer but when the school upgrade this company sells them for the school. My friends got it for me as a gift because since they drive truck, they didn't have a permanent address and were practically living here for a year before they got their apartment(their in the same building 1 floor up). For all the times I cooked for them(cause it's so much easier to cook for three instead of one) For all the times I dog sit when they say they will be 2 hours and 9 hours later they still aren't back. For all the times they called me up wanting to know a weather report. So I HAVE A NEW COMPUTER. And since 5 am yes 5am is when they got home and called me to say they were coming up with it I have been playing. Now I am waiting for either my brother to phone or my friends brother to transfer my files and install anything I need. Well I better go and read the manual for this keyboard so I know what all the buttons are for and then I also have to pick out my next read.

Hi Christa,

Congrats on the new computer.  Have fun with it!

I have a wonderful friend that is a computer tech at a community college near me.  He gave me a new, well newer, computer in 2006 after my old one died.  He is a great guy & I would be lost without him when it comes to keeping my computer going.  He & his wife just adopted a little boy in November. Smile  Good luck getting your files transferred.  Andre was able to save everything on my old computer & put it on the new one.  Enjoy!

Take care, happy reading,

Thanks

thank for all the great wishes. I am just so excited. I spent most of yesterday bookmarking pages. I can now have two window open at the same time, I can get into Shelfari, I can play games. You might even see a few ebooks in my mix of read books(like the TBR pile isn't big enough).

Katherine I think I have my next 12 reads picked out. But I could end up rearanging again, I have 3 times in the last 2 daysSmile There are certain books I want to read sooner andI've been trying to find a way to get them in the line up.

Those computers are devious!

Glad you're with us at blinding speed, Christa, but don't let the computer sidetrack you from reading a good book, they always try to do that Surprised

I'm so jealous!

Ooooh, I want one too! Congrats on the computer. I just love getting new toys to play with and a freebie is even better. I have been researching (and saving up for) a new computer for several months. I keep going to a popular unbiased product report site to see which is the best to get. I've always used a PC but I am tempted to try a Mac. Still researching... Have fun playing!

devious computers

Since the book I was reading wasn't all that exciting I found myself playing more and more with the computer, If it's a book I'm really into I'm not easily distracted.

AlyssaMay- Are you anywhere near Sault St. Marie or Sudbury(Not sure which one one said Sudbury one said the Sault but they were on their way to Winnipeg)? Anyway I think that was where the company was and I think they said it was under $400.

Thanks, Christa

I am actually located between Mtl & Ottawa. $400 sounds great! I really tend to overthink the whole purchase. Still hemming & hawing over the PC vs. Mac decision.

If you do decide to get a MAC, consider the mini Mac.  That way you can use your current screen, keyboard and mouse.
