I Gotta Find that Book!

In our house, my husband (dh), my teen daughter (dd) and myself all read Love Inspired books. I will choose a cowboy (and now historical) first whereas my dd will always grab the suspense. DH will take a contemporary - suspense or not - over a historical.

Now, when we get a new book in the house, I go to the TBR piles and decide who gets the privilege of reading it first. Usually it will depend on who has the lowest pile, but when it's a suspense book, I put it in dd's pile or she'll wreck the others trying to find it. I usually read the books last because when I'm done, I check them off our master list and decide to keep them or give them away.

So this is how I came to the unfortunate situation yesterday where I was wasting time scouring the house for my next book. I mean, it's not like I didn't have anything to read, because my TBR pile is huge. (As well as the Love Inspired books, I also read Heartsong and Harlequin AR, SR, R, P, H, etc.)

But, I had been eagerly anticipating the Three Sisters Inn series by Marta Perry. So had my dd! When we finally got the 3 books that make up the series, dd grabbed them first. Then she put them on dh's pile. And he passed them on to me as he finished them. I started reading the first one - Hide in Plain Sight . By that time, dh had finished book 2 and left it on the coffee table beside the chair I usually sit in. I saw it there for a full day, just waiting for me. My son even looked at the title - A Christmas to Die For - and said, "Oooh - that sounds like a good one!" Yup. So yesterday morning I woke up, finished the last chapter of Book 1 and set it aside to write the Book Review.  Then I reached for Book 2 - and it was gone! The kids had already caught the school bus and dh had left for work. Figuring I brought it down to my TBR pile, I searched there for it. Nope. I searched the whole room. Nope. I went back to the coffee table and searched around it and under it and under the sofa and inside the sofa - nope! I checked the dining room table where the mail pile was and the kitchen and the porch. Nope. I sent a text msg to dh telling him what happened. Then I had breakfast and started the search again. By the time I'd searched everywhere 3 times, I admitted defeat.

So, the next time I sat for a breather, I grabbed another book - a Harlequin Presents. It wasn't on the top of my pile - a Margaret Daley suspense book was - but I would've got it mixed up with the Three Sisters Inn series. I needed something totally different, so I grabbed an HP - Claiming His Pregnant Wife.

As soon as the kids came home, I put them to work looking. Still nothing. Finally dh came back from work. Finding that I still hadn't found my book, he started looking. Eight mins later, he walked into the kitchen with it! Where had it been? On the other sofa, under a blanket where dd had been sitting that morning. She claimed she hadn't realized she was sitting on it!

So, now I have Book 2 in the Three Sisters Inn series. DH is still reading Book 3 so there's no rush.

I think I'll hold off posting the book review of Book 1 and do the HP first. This way, the 3 series books will be posted together to make it easy for anyone looking for them.

And how was your day?

LOL

Sorry for laughing but I don't know how many times something like this has happened to me. I'm glad the book was finally found. As for my day, it was a lazy one. I finished a book and watched a couple of movies. I'm still recovering from Tuesday when I worked the primary. Being an election official always brings home the fact that I was declared disabled for a reason. But, no matter how much pain I am in for the few days afterwards, it is worth it. We do Christmas on the money I earn working the elections each year.
