Daily Online Read: Grayson Prentice's Seduction by Bronwyn Scott

Grayson Prentiss, heir to the failing Lockhart Viscountcy, stakes the family fortunes on the HMS Bluehawk’s valuable cargo. But when the ship founders off the coast of northern Spain, Grayson is washed up on shore devoid of clothes and memories. Grayson falls into the hands of the lovely Elena di Duero. But Elena’s generosity comes with a price—she needs a husband in order to save her lands and inheritance from her greedy neighbor, Don Alicante.

About the Author

Bronwyn Scott is a pen name for Nikki Poppen. Nikki lives in the Pacific Northwestern United States, where she is a communications instructor at a small college. She enjoys playing the piano and hanging out with her three children. She definitely does not enjoy cooking or laundry—she leaves that to her husband, who teaches early morning and late evening classes at the college so he can spend the day being a stay-at-home daddy.

Nikki remembers writing all her life. She started attending young-author conferences held by the school district when she was in fourth grade and is still proud of her first completed novel in sixth grade, a medieval adventure that her mom typed for her on a Smith-Corona electric typewriter! She has since moved on to RWA conferences and a computer. She loves history and research and is always looking forward to the next story. She also enjoys talking with other writers and readers about books they like and the writing process. She’d love to hear from you! Check out her Harlequin Mills and Boon links and her personal Web page.

I love the beginning. This is going to be a long one and I can't wait for the rest.

I love the dramatic start in this new Historical Read!  It really leaves us hanging on for dear life!

Thank goodness this is a daily read, but it's still hard to wait for more tomorrow!Embarassed

I can hardly wait to see what happens next!  I think we're in for a rocky ride -- but what a ride it will be!

I sense a swap in the making. One fine looking brown-haired man for another.

So they've.....

unofficially met!  And I'm sure it's a good/bad thing that people are already commenting on how much he looks like her husband.  It can't just be one of the two...  Wink

I wonder if our author will visit us here.....

Historicals are my favorite!  Wasn't able to get on yesterday to read so was glad to be able to catch up today.  Hopefully Grayson heals fast!

Glad you love it

It is great to see the enthusiasm for this story. When my editor called me about it, I was overly thrilled to get the chance to share Grayson's story. He actually shows up in the upcoming book Notorious Rake, Innocent Lady.

My agent and I are currently discussing the idea of moving this to a full length story. Let me know what you think.

Make sure to check out my website as well!

If you have any other questions, make sure to let me know!

Enjoy the read!

Liking this story.  Seems

Liking this story.  Seems to me if he swaps roles with ALejandro, then the other guy is out of the picture.  She will have her husband back and therefor can keep her land.   Since he is devoid of memories as the symopsis at the top puts it, then he won't know that he is not Alejandro!  They will be in a real pickle when his memory returns though!  This would make a good full length book!

Great Ideas

I love your thoughts on this one. One of the things I wanted to do with this one is keep you guessing!

Have fun with it! Wink

Glad you are here, Bronwyn!

I missed yesterday's read, so I had the pleasure of reading 2 chapters today!  I'm thinking that with Elena's added body heat, he will probably wake up tomorrow.  The way this is starting out, I will definitely have to look for your other books to buy!  I think that this would be a great full length book!  I agree with FF -- I think a swap is in the making, so she wil be saved from Don Alicante.  I can hardly wait to see their romance unwind!

BTW, historicals are my favorite, too!

Forgot to tell you Bronwyn

Forgot to tell you Bronwyn (Nikki), I just finished Pickpocket Countess last weekend!  Loved itSmile  Now I have to get Notorious Rake.  I read the excerpt and see that it's Gray's family!  Should I wait to read it after this online is done? or does it stand on it's own?  I hate reading series out of orderSmile

Yea!!!! The author is here!!!!!

Bronwyn,

Thanks for joining us!  I'm truly enjoying this story, and think it would make an awesome full length read.

Looking forward to when he fully awakens.

What to read first?

I'm glad you loved PICKPOCKET COUNTESS. As far as the online read goes, it really doesn't matter what you read first. Grayson's story is just an attachment. They are stand alones.

I try to have all of my stories work as stand alone's even though I love to have the characters connected. I did this with my series at Avalon as well. The characters that show up in THE DOWAGER'S WAGER all continue to appear in each of the following books. I have always felt it adds a little depth to the stories. Once you get to know some of the secondary characters, it's always fun to see them come back again.

Dang!!!!

Imagine you're Grayson.  No memory of where or who you are, you're in bed with an attractive naked woman you don't know/can't remember, you yourself are naked and sporting a serious stiffy when a slew of people walk into the room.  Granted, morning wood is normal, and it was different back then with servents, but STILL!!!!!  I think I'd pull the covers over my head and tell the lot of them to shove off.  Wink

Thank God I'm a woman!  Being turned on is not quite as physically noticable as if I were a man....

Can't wait to see how Grayson 'mans up' for this.  LOL!

Elena and Grayson

Yep, Elena is not feeling compelled to tell Grayson the truth but she will suddenly realize shortly that when someone masquerades as her husband, it's a two way street--she has to masquerade as said husband's wife. And Grayson makes it clear he wants his wife in all ways. Smile

Me, too, FF,

because they have a tendency to hurt people, and they all end up coming out in the light of day.  If he had his memory, she could at least argue her point and they could find a way to help each other.  (Not that she knows yet he needs help, but still.)

tomorrow's a good day for Grayson and Elena

These short chapters are driving me nuts (in a good way). and I know how the storiy ends! (LOL). When I read, I usually read quite a big chunk at a time. It's takes discipline to settle for a few pages. I keep wanting to move on and see what happens.

Keep reading. There's definitely some good action on Wednesday. Glad you found a link that worked, Katherine.

Loving it!

Yep!  He definitely has turned the tables on her!  What a man!Laughing

I hate to say it, but I'm wondering if Don Alicante had something to do with the disappearance of her husband in the first place...

Nikki, I love your work!  I wish you could post several chapters at a time.  LOL!

I can hardly wait to see what happens tomorrow!!!!!Embarassed

I agree with Cathy P

"I hate to say it, but I'm wondering if Don Alicante had something to do with the disappearance of her husband in the first place... "

Good point Cathy P - I tend to agree with you!!  He doesn't seem to be the type who woul balk at that.  It will be interesting to see his reaction.

Short chapters indeed!!!!

I know there's a whole word count thing, but you can't blame a gal for wanting more!!!!!

So yesterday, he talked to Elena about 'his' life and 'their' relationship....  His kindness, taking the tray she'd brought in for him, his ASKING her to stay with him while he ate and about 'their' past relationship.  Talk about a gentleman!  And a seductive one to boot.

As for Mr. Meanie (Don Alicante, I just like using Mr. Meanie better....  LOL!), I think he KNOWS her husband is dead, probably saw and got rid of the body, so he'll be sure to raise up lots of questions.  Either that, or her husband's alive and on his property, held captive by Mr. Meanie, so either way, he knows Grayson isn't the rightful lord of the manor.

I love the fact that Grayson is aware of lots of things, even though he doesn't remember anything about his former life.  I can't wait to see how things heat up with he and Elena soon!!!

Hugs,
April

You can do anything if you put your mind to it.... but it won't go far without the rest of your body.

My thoughts exactly, April

I have been wondering the same thing as April.  Does Don Alicante have him prisoner on his property or was he responsible for Alejandro's disappearance -- maybe he even had him killed...?  He will definitely be furious when he hears that Elena's husband has returned!

How long will it take for Grayson's memory to come back?  He's already suspicious and realizing that things don't feel right.

I can hardly wait to see the sparks fly!Laughing

Mr Meanie, Don Alicante

Don Alicante is definitely the villain here. One story line that will be explored in a fuller length story is that he tinkers with the light house light. Although nothing comes of it in terms of plot for this story, I think still left in the section in earlier chapters about how dark it was the night Grayson's ship wrecks and how Grayson wonders if the light house had been lit and of course in a longer story, part of Grayson's memory return will confirm that Don Alicante has long plotted to steal Alejandro's land and did tinker with the lighthouse to wreck some ships, Alejandro's particularly.

As to the deception issue--yep, I wrestled with how far to take the deception on Elena's behalf. But in the end, I wanted her to be a tough heroine and sometimes we've got to make the hard choices in order to save ourselves. She does have a conscience though and later next week there's a scene where she's thoroughly feeling guilty and she starts to think maybe she should tell Grayson (I'm not saying she does tell him....)

Finally, as for more on Mr. Meanie, Don Alicante makes a couple appearances in the story--probably next week and he gets to square off with Grayson/Alejandro.

I have to say I forgot I decided Grayson had to have an introspective moment for chapter 8. I opened up the chapter this morning and thought "Shucks, they're not going to have their "night" until chapter 10. Still, introspection is good so we're on the hooks until Friday.

Chapter 10!

Surprised    Not until Chapter 10!  ... I'm not the patient sort!  LOL

Nikki, actually this was a very good chapter .... I like how you give us his thoughts and show us he is one very intelligent man  ... so now we know he's droolishious and smart ....  my kind of hero!

Gotta love him!

You have to love a gentle, decent, and passionate man who knows he wouldn't have been content to leave his marriage in turmoil, even though he doesn't remember his marriage!  Doesn't hurt anything that he's attractive, too.  Yum!  Can't wait for things to heat up.

Yep....

I could totally love him if I were Elena.  I like his honestly about things....

Looks like tomorrow will be a steamy one!  Wink

Hugs,
April

I like that Grayson and Elena are both decent people. He's very honest and she's got a good heart although she's been forced to at least begin doing something a little dishonest (well, OK alot dishonest) but she's thinking about her future reasonably and the future of those who depend on her and using what limited resources she has.

What Am wondering !!

While reading the first few chapters, I kind of guessed that Grayson may take the role of Elena's protector...but it left me with too many questions like.. Grayson was having a home somewhere and will he be able to leave everything and settle along with Elena or will he take her to his place ? What about Alejandro - will it be confirmed that he is no longer alive ? Why not Elena just confess the whole truth from the start and ask his help openly rather than making him believe that he is her husband ? Whew.... too many questions ...but its all what-ifs...so I just left it like... the story so far is so good..but it did feel wrong that Elena slept with him by pretending to be his wife !! :( I wish Grayson could have fallen in love with Elena by himself rather than as a duty to reclaim his lost relationship with his wife...

I hope the story line does make us feel good in the end !!!!! Cant wait for the rest of the chapters though - just sitting on the edge of seat !

Whahhh! .... now we have to wait until Monday!

Great Chapter 10, Nikki!    ..... what a way to end the week!  .... now we'll all be salivating all weekend for more of Grayson! ...   is it Monday yet?
