Foreign Covers

Foreign Covers.jpg

Do you guys ever get to see the foreign editions of Harlequin/Silhouette books? I know our international members here do.

Sometimes, our books retain the same cover when they go overseas.
Sometimes, they're combined in a 2-in-1 book (that happens in Australia
often), and they use the cover of the other author's book for both.
Sometimes, they use a cover from a completely different book--some
author friends and I have joked about swapping covers. And sometimes,
the cover gets a completely new overhaul. Perhaps, that's to appeal to
different tastes in different countries?

I thought it'd be fun to share one of my foreign covers that I
thought was especially good. (I tried to upload it, but couldn't get
the image quite square--hope you can make out the striking, brooding
'mad scientist' with the eyepatch on my Scandinavian cover for BEAST IN
THE TOWER) To be honest, I don't know if it's the Swedish, Norwegian or
Danish edition because all I can read are the characters' names and my
own Embarassed. I studied a little Norwegian in college, but not enough to translate a book by any means.

At any rate, I love this cover! Even better than the North American
version most of you have seen. The NA version got the eyepatch right,
but the hero was just too clean-cut for me. This guy looks dark and
tortured, sexy as all get-out, and has definitely seen more of life
than his American counterpart.

I've been particularly blessed with the cover art on my most recent books (thank you, art department! Smile).
Take a gander at AT YOUR COMMAND and NINE-MONTH PROTECTOR to see what I
mean--both are gorgeous! But sometimes, I do like the foreign edition
better.

So what do you think? Are the cover artists getting it right? Are they
picking men who evoke your idea of the hero, or at least attract your
attention? Do they portray women you can admire and maybe like to meet
if they were real? What are your favorite covers you've seen
lately--North American or foreign? (I'd love to hear--then that'd give
us some fun procrastination time to go look them up Wink)

Ugh!

Of course, I can't get the cover to load.  I'll try again when I have a little more time.  I need to get back to my deadline ms.

My Blaze BASIC TRAINING had a great cover on the Great Britain edition.  Maybe I can get that one to work.

<sigh> I'll keep trying.

Ha!  The computer cannot

Ha!  The computer cannot defeat me!  For long Wink.

I finally got the scan to work--here are two foreign editions of my Intrigue, BEAST IN THE TOWER.  One is from Great Britain, the other from Sweden/Norway.

Other than the fact that my hero, Dr. Damon Sinclair, had light hair in the story, I'd take either of these covers any day.  Both convey a more tortured soul who fits my idea of a sexy mad scientist better than the clean-cut frat guy on my American cover of the book.  Not a bad cover, but it just didn't wow me.  These two foreign editions wow me!  What do you think?
